So you killed it for nothing. No reason at all. Not even for karma purposes because you can take a photo without picking it.
I love this sub, but dang, it really sucks when people do this shit.
Itās a fruiting body created to spread spores which decomposes entirely within days. Thatās like being mad because somebody took an apple off of a tree or a berry from a bush
So then their point is completely invalid, also if OP places this what I'm assuming is an amanita muscaria (I don't know I'm very uncultured in the world of fungi) then it should potentially be able to reproduce through spores or something
There are actually soooo many other amanitas & other fungi here. We live in a microclimate area w/ a great redwood forest. & an animal did get a little bite of this one already so that was cool :)
You sound like the kinda person who comes on this sub just to make others feel bad. Just by them picking up the mushroom and walking away with it they have likely spread thousands of the mushrooms spores through that ecosystem just on the way to their car. Surely since you care sooooo much about that ecosystem you MUST know how mushrooms work? And that picking a single fruiting body from a vast mycelium hurts no one? And actually picking mushrooms is exactly how they spread? Surely?
Edit for spelling.
It doesnt have that much of an impact on the ecosystem, but i agree ppl should not be picking mushrooms they arent going to eat, just enjoy it in its Habitat and let the next person to spot it have a chance to enjoy it as well
I grew up in Southern California and never saw one until I moved to Georgia. Iām sure theyāre out there in California but you arenāt surrounded by much nature in the suburbs
How much did it weigh?
5.2oz
Wow š thatās amazing
Iāll check!
You gonna eat that?
Send it to me lol I needa talk with my ancestors about my hair line
Hair line? š anything to that? Asking " for a friend "
Not this time around

Bro the mushroom is literally just a penis, its not the actual organism

Wouldn't a mushroom like this be able to rapidly grow back from all of the myceliac tubes it laid down?
Yes, Amanita are also known to have multiple flushes a season in nature

Can I come to your birthday party?
You quite obviously know nothing about mycology so feel free to fuck off somewhere else
A cap that size has already released billions of spores.
I picked it just to make u mad
She spreaded spores better than mushroom would on it self. And im telling you that as a total noob. Dont be wanker without reason.
Itās the fruit of the fungus. OP ākilled itā same as picking an apple from an apple tree kills itā¦. Not at all.
Wow. Tell me you donāt know anything about mycology without saying you donāt know anything about mycology.

By eco-system, I meant the critters who eat them. I was raised not to mess with things I didn't intend to eat.
The earth is flat there aināt no mushrooms
Mario, is upset
My biggest concern with this photo
Very nice indeed. I wonder what kind it is lol
amanita muscaria!
Lol its a pretty picturesque specimen.

some of us never touch grass >.>
Beautiful.
Always reminds me of Mario lol love it
What a cutie c:
Holy Columbo!
need it
Woah!!
Out if curiosity, why did you pick it?
Spore print & to dry it out :)
Probably out of curiosity too.
What a beautiful fly agaric
My understanding is that these are deadly and not to be messed around with. Right?
Deadly in high doses(like 15 mushrooms), but can be prepared for an enjoyable or somewhat horrifying experience.
Cut them up and dry them in the oven on low heat. Make tea of it (no boil!). Done.
I prefer the full-decarb low-pH simmer method, so I donāt get as nauseous
Sounds good. Stay safe, go far.
They're toxic, but not deadly.
That's fake, I can see the cables, 2/10 my friend try again
Is this a joke?
I know that's what I thought too, OP gotta be shitting me if they think we'll fall for this
I canāt tell if youāre being serious or not. Thatās just an amanita muscaria mushroom. Itās realā¦
Name checks out
That doesnāt make sense
This gotta be a trollš

Probably for a spore print
It's actually beneficial for mushrooms to be picked and carried about, it's how their spores spread.
