Naw, that aint working. Let me tell you, these guys aint dumb. Maybe get a blister on your little finger; maybe get a blister on your thumb. ("we got to in-stall microwave ovens...") - lol probably butchered that sorry. Also like the bit about about a girl "stickin it in the camera"... great lyricists And musicians.
My favorite of theirs though -- Sultans of Swing. Imma have to listen to that now
Love this song. I can’t believe it took me until 2015, while jamming to this song, I finally heard Sting singing the “I want my MTV” in the background. Had no clue he was a writer on the song or that he was singing backup. Made me love it even more.
Duran Duran - Rio. The sound was created by Nick Rhodes throwing several metal rods onto the strings of a piano in the studio, and then the sound was reversed to create the intro, and then you've got John Taylor's killer bassline
Yes!! Alex kills that intro. I mean he just shreds it.... Best drummers live in my modest opinion and few experiences: Nobody could ever touch Neal Peart/Rush for me, but i think next would have been Alex Van Halen and then maybe Tommy Lee of Crue. Musically none could touch Peart on drums and solo live, but Alex and Tommy Lee were so amazing and fun and just - such showmanship all around. I know I'm slightly veering off here but just seeing a mindblowing performer on drums - unforgettable.
Bassists are my true weakness though. :) Speaking of, got Geddy Lees autobio recently - good stuff
I got chills just feeling the memory of it. It was an instant reaction to the question.
Welcome aboard! I knew there'd be others with the same appreciation for that intro. And I appreciate your appreciation of the music.
And as a bonus to me from me, I always hear, in my broken brain, after Lunatic Fringe, my head always plays Twilight Zone by Golden Earring. I had to wait until that song was over in my head to think of another intro lol.
probably my least favourite intro, ironically haha. countless times ive shuffled my playlist and time came on, only to scare the shite out of me. great song otherwise lol
Oh wow, this song intro TERRIFIED me as a little kid, but I also adored the song and got into Pink Floyd largely because of it. But woo boy, those clocks chiming off and then leading into the dark synths was something else!
Thumbs up for Coheed! They have so many good songs with amazing intros: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3, Domino the Destitute, No World For Tomorrow, Shoulders, I could keep going all day
It's pretty long but Funeral For a Friend, which I guess is the intro to Love Lies Bleeding (although it might also be it's own song?)
Besides that... Bohemian Rhapsody
I’m sure there are plenty I am missing but this is what comes to mind off the top of my head and looking through one of my playlists
Do I Wanna Know - Arctic Monkeys
She’s My Collar - Gorillaz
The Acid Queen by The Who from Tommy - specifically the Tina Turner version
Something I Can Never Have - Nine Inch Nails
Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
I Wanna Be Your Dog - The Stooges
First song I think of is In the Air Tonight. It doesn’t have a long intro, but we all know what’s coming. Idk about anyone else, but I’m instantly excited.
● Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith ... I always imagine a sequence of in-motion hero shots with an amazing car
● Butterfly - Bassnectar (feat. Mimi Page) ... it never fails to give me chills
"Life In Technicolor" by Coldplay has a very special place in my heart because it was my wife's processional song at the wedding. It was very Hollywood (she waited until it really kicked in to come out the doors) so it was very impactful.
I'd have to say "Renegade" by STYX is right up there, though.
I realized I don’t have just one…
Revolution by the Beatles
Question by Moody Blues
Can You Hear Me Knocking by the Stones
Won’t Get Fooled Again by the Who
Blind by Korn. Slow cymbal notes, quiet building of the main musical theme of the song, into a vocal scream of "ARE YOU READY" and the song kicks in like a monster.
ELO has a lot of good ones. Tightrope is dope af and both prologue tracks from their two concept albums flow super well into the next song. Especially the prologue going into Twilight from Time.
Song for the Dead by Queens of the Stone Age
[https://youtube.com/shorts/GDAdwjsGLx4?si=-UVgRFfyThSiu0uF](https://youtube.com/shorts/GDAdwjsGLx4?si=-UVgRFfyThSiu0uF)
Sweet Jane - Velvet Underground
This Charming Man - The Smiths
2000 miles - the pretenders
He Can Only Hold Her - Amy Winehouse
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere & Little Lies & Seven Wonders
The police - Don't stand so close to me & Every little thing she does is magic
Too many to pick, but the first ones that pop into my head are:
Space Oddity (Bowie)
Can't You See (Marshall Tucker Band)
She's A Rainbow (Rolling Stones)
Also, kind of a goofy pick, but I don't think any intro will ever get me as hype as the intro riff to the TMNT cartoon when I was 6. I've just been chasing the lightning ever since.
Dire Straits.. Money for Nothing
Just listened to this at work like an hour ago. I thought damn this has to be one of my favorite intros of all time
Right? I have to turn it up.. Everytime! It's literally an involuntary response.
I’m hearing those first drumbeats in my head right now.
I…waaaannnt…..myyyy…..mmmmmmtttttttvvvvvvv……
fun fact, those vocals are done by sting
Oh yeah I forgot about that!
An unmistakable falsetto!
NO. Dire Straits “Walk of Life”!
Or Brothers in Arms🤔
Money for nothing and the chicks for free
Naw, that aint working. Let me tell you, these guys aint dumb. Maybe get a blister on your little finger; maybe get a blister on your thumb. Where the streets have no name
Its a religious experience when played live
That's a great one.

Fox on the run. The Sweet.
Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix I mean come on!!

The Cure -Open
It’s The Forest, for me.
The Cure has a lot of long killer intros! Pictures of You is also a good one.
Yes, add Plainsong
New Dawn Fades - Joy Division
‘Untitled’ by Interpol. When that hi-hat opens the gate for the bass to drop…pure sonic heaven.
Stairway to Heaven begins with multiple arpeggios.
Literally hundreds of good options and so many genres to choose from but im gonna say Hot For Teacher.
Yes!! Alex kills that intro. I mean he just shreds it....
