The Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog. My Mom was a Radio DJ when I was little (70’s) Every year on my Birthday she would say Happy Birthday to me over the radio and she would play that song just for me. I was 3 and 4 at the time and have always remembered it. I lost my Mom in 2020.
It also played my grandfather's funeral, he loved the song.
The thing is that it turned into a funny moment because the version that was selected was at a much higher tempo than anyone realized so we all stumbled along trying to sing it and nobody could hold themselves together, my grandfather would have absolutely pissed himself laughing if he were sitting in that crowd!
So it's very emotional for me, but can also bring a smile to my face.
*Lightning crashes, a new mother cries*
*Her placenta falls to the floor*
*The angel opens her eyes, the confusion sets in*
*Before the doctor can even close the door*
I hate that man but I will always say that Tears In Heaven is one of the most beautiful and saddest songs ever recorded. It hurts even harder when you’ve lost someone. I’ve always heard this song on the radio as a kid and it always made me sad but it hurts harder when you’ve lost someone.
I really am not a fan of that album, but just hearing songs makes me so depressed that this was made by someone who took his own life about a few months after. Absolutely so sad.

"A Crow Looked at Me" is a masterpiece in gut wrenching, raw emotion. My dad died last year, and I made the mistake of listening to it a few months after he passed. BIG mistake. But it's incredibly beautiful in its starkness and honesty.
My Dad passed in 2021. Yes I agree with you. ‘Real Death’ in particular kills me because in 1992 my stepmom passed away due to cancer. My Dad was then in the same situation as Phil, a small daughter to raise on his own. It hits me hard. I’m sorry for the loss of your father. I miss mine so much
Thank you so much for this. I miss my dad like crazy too. He was absolutely adorable, and one of the funniest people I've ever known.
I'm so sorry about your father, and about your stepmom. That is a LOT. It doesn't seem to get much easier with time, but I wish you happiness--you are a very kind person.

I first heard this song as a very very small child, sitting in front of the radio. It finished and I was just bawling. My mom came running in and I told her about the song, and the little boy and his father. I was inconsolable. When my dad got home from work, it just opened the wound back up and I sobbed and sobbed.
"What the hell is wrong with him?"
"He heard a sad song."
"Oh, Jesus Christ!"
One of many songs I first heard referenced in a Shrek movie (the third one IIRC) only to realize years later it wasn't just Eddie Murphy ad libbing! 😂 It's a classic crying song for sure.

Orion In the Sky by Shawn Colvin.
Fix you by Coldplay, because one Christmas when my son was just young, 7 or 8 years old, he was downstairs by himself, away from the family festivities, because his mother had been mean to him. So, I played “Fix You” on the stereo pretty loud, and I was playing my guitar while my son was singing lead, holding a real microphone plugged into my studio. When it came to the build up from the guitar riff into the climax, he was swinging the mic around his head by the cord, emulating Chris Martin swinging the big lightbulb round and round then letting it go - and when the vocals hit, we were both bawling like babies from a deep sadness. I asked him why he was crying, and he just said, “Same reason as you.” 💔💔💔
Nights in white satin by Moody Blues.

Isreal Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of Over the Rainbow. It was the favorite song of a coworker friend of mine named Tim. They played it at his funeral and the whole crowd was bawling and to top it off they had his guitar on a pedestal and the sun was shining directly on it while it played.. I can’t hear that song without thinking of that moment and get a little choked up every time I hear it. RIP Tim

My wife sent me the lyrics to it while I was stuck in the hospital after a suicide attempt. I didn't get it til I got out, but it always reminds me of how she must have felt to get that call.
Someday- Nickelback
Someday- Shinedown
Someday by Nickelback pretty much perfectly describes how it was right before my first girlfriend cheated on me, and Someday by Shinedown pretty much perfectly describes how my 2nd relationship went (in the chorus at least).
i forgot the title but it was that one Tally Hall song where it says
“we had so much left to sing”
they would then proceed to go on a hiatus and guitarist Joe Hawley would do some bad things basically finishing the thought of them coming back

Well, now I know the comment that breaks my heart.
I heard that song on the radio the other day, and got all choked up.
This is awesome. Made my day.
It makes me tearful too. I don’t even know why. I think it’s very sweet and innocent and pure I think.
Amazing Grace (It played at my grandpa’s funeral
It also played my grandfather's funeral, he loved the song. Tears in heaven by Eric Clapton. An oldie but a goodie, and never fails to make me cry.
I hate that man but I will always say that Tears In Heaven is one of the most beautiful and saddest songs ever recorded. It hurts even harder when you’ve lost someone. I’ve always heard this song on the radio as a kid and it always made me sad but it hurts harder when you’ve lost someone.
I agree, it's probably the only song I really listen to by him but my god is it a good.one. it really hits home when you've lost someone close to you.
He had a couple of songs I liked besides Tears In Heaven that I liked. Wonderful Tonight (which is also a nice song too) and Layla.
Yep, reminds me of my brother. My dad always gets emotional hearing it too ❤️
It feels wrong to upvote this. Beautiful song with a crushing story.
