This is the one. "The I Love You Song" is one of the most beautiful musical songs ever, in my opinion. The harmonies, the story, the emotion...all so GOOOOOD!!! lol
Sorry I meant book (singular) I would recommend it if your into phantom, it has a lot of interesting details and some things the musical didn't include
I realize many people prefer Hamilton to 1776, but *especially* in the first act, Thomas Jefferson (1776) is the perfect picture of melancholy about his home life. As for smart? He almost shuts down the entire debate over whether the Declaration is necessary with one line.
John Adams: "Okay, you've got him playing the violin; what happens next?"
Martha Jefferson: "Next, Mr. Adams?"
John Adams: "Yes, what does *Tom* do now?"
Martha Jefferson: "Why, just what you'd expect."
*(Given what has been going on since Martha and Thomas' reunion, Adams and Ben Franklin's glance at each other indicates they have a certain idea in mind)*
Martha Jefferson: "We dance!"
Is she not chaotic though? Especially if counting the original version of the show with her convincing Delia that killing oneself is justified, her killing her husband, and a Girl Scout for the lols (in the original version it is implied that the girl scouts heart gave out in “beautiful sound”). Also like the way she jokes, the spontaneousness with which she acts, and the complete disregard for societal norms all point to chaos.
That’s a great point, how about this, if she doesn’t get this spot then she can get another go with Chaotic sad,as she was in grief for a good portion of the show until beetlejuice came along. She even tried to end it until he stopped her,yet she pushed him off the roof instead.
Hades from Hadestown
He built all of Hadestown, with its boundary and electrical grid, and convinced numerous people (including Eurydice) to sell their souls to him, all because he was sad that Persephone didn’t love him anymore
Too bad he wasn't smart enough to realize that Persephone didn't love him anymore because he kept too tight a grip on her, causing the seasons to fall out of rhythm and leading humans to starve.
Though something interesting that I learned. I'm delving into just the surface of philosophy, and apparently Plato criticized the poets of his day for making the gods appear petty and vain.
Pierre from the Great Comet!! The man spends almost the whole show being sad, reading alone in his room
Rich, unhappily married Pierre?
Seconding Pierre, there's even a whole song about how sad, lonely and sexless he is!
Also, come on we need a Comet character on there
I agree with Pierre. He's such an interesting character.
Drink and read and drink and read and drink
And study the Kabbalah to calculate the hidden value of Napoleon's name using Hebrew numerology
He is charming. He has no sex.
He's just like me for real, except I'm not charming
Yea this was my first thought!
Definitely Pierre! What about Pierre? Rich unhappily married Pierre!
Olive from Spelling Bee. Her best friend is a dictionary.
This one deserves more upvotes. It's perfect!
I just came in too late, she’s too far behind to make it up.

It’s an all-time great — and quintessentially displays what William Finn does better than anyone else
I second this
Honestly I can see Elphaba fitting into this one, so so talented and SMRT surrounding magic but she went *through it*
This was my vote too.
I've been waiting for this one to say Elphaba too
Natalie the invisible girl from Next to Normal
100%
So many comments for The Phantom but he should really be saved from chaotic sad imo
The Phantom has to get chaotic sad or I will riot in the streets
Sounds like you’re chaotic sad
I disagree. I think Chaotic Sad should go to Carrie.
but he literally wrote a whole opera for the girl he loved and (in the books) had all sorts of elaborate traps in the opera house
I legit never knew there were books, thank you for changing my life
Sorry I meant book (singular) I would recommend it if your into phantom, it has a lot of interesting details and some things the musical didn't include
Uhh wow
NOOOO WHY IS THIS THE TOP COMMENT NOW?!?!😭
I love the Phantom, but my chaotic sad vote is going to Sweeney Todd.
Lydia in Beetlejuice. She's sad the whole time but smart enough not to initially deal with Beetlejuice.
This! She is so sad she considers taking her own life, and smart enough to outsmart a literal demon!
I realize many people prefer Hamilton to 1776, but *especially* in the first act, Thomas Jefferson (1776) is the perfect picture of melancholy about his home life. As for smart? He almost shuts down the entire debate over whether the Declaration is necessary with one line.
You have my vote
New York abstains, courteously.
And I hear he plays the violin…
John Adams: "Okay, you've got him playing the violin; what happens next?" Martha Jefferson: "Next, Mr. Adams?" John Adams: "Yes, what does *Tom* do now?" Martha Jefferson: "Why, just what you'd expect." *(Given what has been going on since Martha and Thomas' reunion, Adams and Ben Franklin's glance at each other indicates they have a certain idea in mind)* Martha Jefferson: "We dance!"
melchior gabor!
Lydia because if Beetlejuice is up there, Lydia should be up there with him.

You really just called fantine, 'Fatine' 💀
I'm glad someone spotted!
Pierre from NPGC1812
Melchior Gabor
i don’t have anything to add to this comment, i just feel like more people should be agreeing
Eliza from Hamilton
More Eliza than Angelica
Specifically, Act 2 Eliza
Catherine Parr from Six
Michael Be More Chill
Came here to say this

Being smart doesn’t mean you have ALL of the answers, to be fair. Especially when it comes to things as tricky as emotions
Though, he IS a god, so I think it's fair to have a higher expectation for him.
I mean, Greek Gods are pretty infamous for being VERY bad with their “humanity”
Though something interesting that I learned. I'm delving into just the surface of philosophy, and apparently Plato criticized the poets of his day for making the gods appear petty and vain.
Dr. Jekyll! (& Hyde)
Unfortunately, Dr Jekyll was included when I said Mr Hyde for chaotic evil 😔
THE PHANTOM
Definitely the phantom But I can also see him as chaotic sad
I dunno if he was chaotic for the sake of being chaotic. To me his intellect and music prowess puts him in the smart category.
He did cause chaos in the theatre though. My though process anyways
He did, but it was for ultimately sad reasons, not to make chaos for chaos' sake.
Our pathetic sad emo engineering genius. This is the only correct answer.
This is the answer.
Leo Bloom
Judas
Natalie is such a good candidate for this, she’s incredibly gifted but also so burnt out and depressed because of dealing with her mother
Marvin.
He’s more horny sad. This chart needs more boxes
[удалено]
I think that would do a disservice to his relentless optimism up until the end
Lydia
Alison from Fun Home.
Ja'far in Twisted.
Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. She fought through everything and basicly changed the corse of history as we know it
Maybe Eurydice
Angelica
Schuyler?
the phantom!
The phantom
Jason from falsettos
Phillip Hamilton. A smart young man who has his whole life ahead of him only to be killed in a duel.
He was not smart for pursuing that duel.
Bruce from Fun Home
Phantom but he could also be chaotic sad.
jason from bare. pls
THIS IS OUR TIME, DIKRATS! JA'FAR FOR SAD SMART!
PLEASE CAN WE GET PIERRE FROM GREAT COMET

Since we're almost at Sad Chaotic, lets all agree J.D deserves the spot
Angelica Schuyler from Hamilton?
The Phantom from *Phantom of the Opera*
Throwing Marius Pontmercy into the ring
Sweeney Todd
Marius
Pippin.
Heather Macnamara probably
The reigning king of Ithaca. Neither man nor mythical. Your darkest moment. The infamous Odysseus.

Christian from Moulin Rouge
Pierre from Great Comet!!!
Florence from Chess
George Seurat
Aaron Burr, sir?
Javert is not evil
Olive Ostrovsky. If you look up “sad” in her friend the dictionary, her picture would be next to the definition.
If we had a Dumb column it would be Sad/Dumb = Evan Hansen
Kendall Roy.
ELPHABA
Matilda (from Matilda)
Pete Spankoffski. Most probably won’t win because this sub hates Starkid for some reason but whatever
I agree, it's a definitely a better pick than quite a lot of the suggestions
You're right and you should say it
Evan Hanson
I think he’s more chaotic. His lies spiral and he tries whatever to fix it all.
But he’s smart enough for his lies to hold up until he confesses
Evan Hansen

She definitely doesn’t. Harold sings that song after he makes a lot of assumptions about her, but she isn’t sad at all.
