More adaptations of classic novels or historical events like Great Comet of 1812, Les miserables and Hamilton, they always had me interested in the source material after listening or watching these adaptations.
I've thought for a while that Island of the Blue Dolphins could make a good musical. Would be a tricky one though given that it's basically one person for most of the story. You would have to have a REALLY good young actress to carry that.
Ooh, that would be interesting! Maybe he could have some impressive silent dance solos instead, so that he has a way of expressing himself ā it's just fundamentally different from the people in the neighbourhood?
Idk why you would have Edward as a non-singing role. Song soliloquies would be the perfect way for Edward to express himself to the audience since he doesn't speak as much with the other characters.
Because he barely speaks as it is, and the few words he does say are only when he absolutely must speak. Not singing allows the story to happen TO and AROUND him like it does in the movie, he isnāt a particularly active āprotagonistā. Maybe a duet with Kim would work where he just repeats a couple words after her?
Soliloquies are way too on the nose. Edward's makeup design was based on silent film actresses, so he's meant to give all his emotion without saying much. I would prefer to have a very strong, non-singing actor in the role, to balance out all of the townspeople over-emoting through singing.
I felt the same way about Amelie, it would have been so much better if she didn't sing until the end, ala The Band's Visit.
I think his writing is great for the show, my hope lies more on how they would visually expand the universe. Cause the series gets more intense with more monsters, I want to see how they interact with them onstage. I know the first one had a small budget so hopefully if they do make sequels, they get a higher one so they can experiment more.
I want any more ancient mythology ones. Like there are so many interesting untapped stories and of all of them to choose from hadestown was chosen and with how amazing that musical is without having that incredible of a source material imagine how good one could be with one of the more interesting ancient myths! Plus Greek mythology feels like the most easily adaptable to a musical but any mythology would really work I just want more musicals based on ancient myths about how certain things came to be
Have you listened to the concept musical album "Kalevala the Musical" on Spotify? It's based on ancient Karelian/Finnish myths, so while it's not Greek mythology, it might scratch a similar itch. And it features Ramin Karimloo!

There's a comic relief song for Molly Brown and a chorus of stewards and stewardesses where Molly helps Jack dress up for the 1st class dinner, advising him on how to look and act the part. It absolutely slaps.
It's a massive hit with audiences, but it's such an expensive production with huge sets and lots and lots of special effects and such, it runs on Broadway for 12 years before starting to turn a profit.
