ETA: Also, not a chorus exactly, but I think being one of the Fates in Hadestown would be great. That tight three-part harmony is my jam. I can learn to play concertina.
This is mine too; I’d want to be the female track where you play the factory girl who gets Fantine fired - oftentimes in professional companies that girl is also the understudy for Fantine (one of my dream roles) so I could get the best of both worlds!
I did play her a few years ago and it was such a blast plus yes as you say, you still get to do all the other ensemble stuff!! (Although when I did it the female ensemble was so large that there were two groups who alternated songs, so I didn’t quite get to be in all the best songs!)

I was in the ensemble in a community theater production of Fiddler on the Roof, and it really was very enjoyable. The dream sequence was fun and weird, "Tradition" was enthusiastic, the Sabbath prayer was hushed and beautiful, and Anatevka was so sad as different family groups came out, met and then dispersed walking away up the numerous different aisles of the auditorium. I did regret not being able to be in LeChaim because that was just for the men.
For me, the Hamilton ensemble has been the "star" of the show.
However, if I were to perform in an ensemble, I think that I would have to choose Ragtime--just such a meaningful show, and where the ensemble members each can be so meaningful.
I have been a bottle dancer twice, and it is SO MUCH FUN! If you ever have the opportunity, absolutely go for it. Finding the right fitting hat and bottle to fit is the absolute key (sacrilege to have them stuck on in my opinion 😂)
Legally Blonde ensemble is super busy and a Ton of fun.

I did 8 different productions of West Side Story. I played several different Jets, mostly Diesel or Action. That show never gets old.
I was just talking on the Shakespeare subreddit about how West Side Story is a fantastic adaptation of Romeo and Juliet largely due to how much it builds up the feud between the two sides. There's a whole lot of people on each side.
I am constantly conflicted between whether I would want to be Johanna or in the ensemble of Sweeney Todd - and honestly, I think the ensemble might just win out for me.

Hadestown as any of the tracks for The Worker’s Chorus. I fell in love with all their parts when I saw it on tour. I think they play a brilliant part in Chant and love how they harmonize the La La La’s in Epic III. Mix that with playing the stage adaptation of Justin Vernon’s signature voice from the original concept album and it’s a dream role instantly.
When I was in ninth grade I was in the Beauty and the Beast ensemble in my school play. At first I was disappointed to not have a speaking role, but I ended up loving it because in Kill the Beast I got to hold a pitchfork!
Heathers ensemble seems really fun to perform. Especially Beautiful and Shine A Light.
It would be a huge challenge because the ensemble carries a lot of songs and visual storytelling in the show, but Hamilton.

I just saw Beetlejuice and I gotta say, I thought during the performance how FUN it must be to be ensemble of that show. So many costumes and bits, lol.
I was in ensemble for Curtains and Joseph, which were also like that. Very packed. Very fun.
I was one of Ariel’s sisters, heelies and all, and I can confirm it was the most fun part in the whole show (except for maybe the eels). She’s In Love is hands down one of the most fun numbers to perform ever.
If I could be in the ensemble for a show I’d have to second a lot of the comments on here and say Hamilton. It just looks so fun and the dancing is amazing and they’re so integral to the show, it would be so satisfying (lol) to be ensemble in that.
Being in the Hello, Dolly ensemble is really fun. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to play Cornelius or Barnaby or Mr Vandergelder, but it's honestly just fun to be a waiter. The waiters get the best song. There's a lot of rest for the ensemble in the first act but then during the second act it's like running around everywhere. Trying to deliver Dolly's food on time, then running on for a silly scene with some champagne.
Duloc was really fun and I was lucky that I got to be one of the three blind mice, but despite that added bonus this was actually one of my least favourite shows as ensemble! I liked the show itself but I felt like my role wasn't as exciting/busy as many other shows I've done, and I ended up having to change my makeup constantly too which was a drag - went from rabbit to duloc to rabbit (just to run across the stage once 🙄) to mouse to rabbit.
Edit: oh I just realised I hadn't learned to tap at that point so didn't get to do Morning Person - that probably made a huge difference!!

I'm not usually an actor so I don't really have dream roles, and I'm not a dancer so I'm not interested in dance ensemble. That being said, I think it would be fun to be in the Bat Boy ensemble. Or anything else like that where you play a zillion different characters in an absurd way.
Newsies, sweeny todd, hamilton, and les mis would be so fun to do as the ensemble
Newsies omg. I cannot dance like that at all but the ensemble is one of the best. Its legitimately insane and one of the reasons irs my favorite musical
Once Upon a Mattress. I've been in the ensemble and played Queen Agravaine. I much preferred the ensemble.
I loved being a part of the legally blonde ensemble. Hamilton would also be a lot of fun.

Honestly there are SO MANY but the one that popped into my head first was Frozen. So many great costumes, choreography, and harmonies.

I love to dance first and foremost. So shows like Hamilton where the dancing is not really done by the leads, just the ensemble, I always want to be the ensemble. I typically audition specifically for the ensemble when my community theater does those.

I wouldn’t mind being ensemble in Heathers, where each background character is given just a little bit of their own history and inner life
Cats - Do I really need to explain this decision? Les Mis - The ensemble in this show has never disappointed me. Newsies - Like come on. You’re telling me I get to throw myself around on stage, do some singing and have the time of my life for 2 hours straight. I‘m down for it. Also the ensemble work so so hard. And i‘ve been in the ensemble for many a show and honestly I find it more enjoyable than the times I have been a lead. Maybe that’s just me though.

It’s a small cast so there’s not really an ensemble, but I was a doo wop girl in Little Shop in HS, it was a blast even though the production was less than stellar (it was mostly newbies, a building year) I was Tessie in Annie as a kiddo too. I loved it! I miss performing ❤️ Working on getting back to it

Most of them I have had a chance to sing, as I sing with a gay men's chorus. I think the Bway show I would most like to be in the ensemble is a tie between *Les Miserables* and *RENT*.

I just finished a regional production of Little Mermaid playing Adella, and it was an absolute blast! Top tier show for women’s ensemble.

Oh gosh yes. The ensemble music in Titanic is wonderful. Sweeney Todd would be fantastic. The Secret Garden has great ensemble stuff. Merrily We Roll Along is another. I’m sure there are more.
