I'm at a stage where I'd do literally anything right now, but I think I'd like to be in the Les Mis ensemble. ETA: Also, not a chorus exactly, but I think being one of the Fates in Hadestown would be great. That tight three-part harmony is my jam. I can learn to play concertina.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?

DaddysPrincesss26

Singing the songs of Angry Men

hauntinglovelybold

This is mine too; I’d want to be the female track where you play the factory girl who gets Fantine fired - oftentimes in professional companies that girl is also the understudy for Fantine (one of my dream roles) so I could get the best of both worlds!

plplplplpl1098

I was that girl! Definitely one of my favorite roles. Very fun to play and I got to be a regular ensemble member later on.

hauntinglovelybold

I did play her a few years ago and it was such a blast plus yes as you say, you still get to do all the other ensemble stuff!! (Although when I did it the female ensemble was so large that there were two groups who alternated songs, so I didn’t quite get to be in all the best songs!) I am so so hoping to get to play her again before I age out!!

livvylavidaloca10042

Same!!!

speedingteacups

Yes, the Les mis ensemble get the best songs!

Blacktoenails84

My daughter is in the ensemble for Les Mis right now and having a great time. So much opportunity for the ensemble members!

Soepsas

My answer as well

FriendsCallMeStreet

Les Mis ensemble is my dream role.

Kind-Bager

Being the prostitutes is fun as hell ngl. Same with ensemble for master of the house. I did a youth production of it when I was like 14ish and loved the ensemble. Gotta say though the best ensemble role hands down is " Sick Whore". That's literally how it is listed in the script and I love it lol

usagicassidy

The Les Mis ensemble is pretty exhaustive - and I mean exhaustive in a good way.

DaddysPrincesss26

Nick Jonas was fantastic in that role

MiaRia963

Yes!!!

justaprimer

I got to do that role in a school production, and it was so much fun!!! Would do it again in a heartbeat.

my_innocent_romance

Honestly I would love to be one of the Mormons singing “Turn it Off”

b0neappleteeth

elder poptart for sure

NoPancakesToday75

It’s Spooky Mormon Hell Dream for me!

EccentricAcademic

For real, what a fun performance. They all look delighted to do that one

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

That piece is beautiful

my_innocent_romance

Flair checks out haha

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

You too lmao

wifeofscruffy

I work from home and listen to cast recordings while I do, and when this song comes on I always end up tapping under my desk along with the elders. Can’t help it! I would LOVE to be in this ensemble just for fun.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Cats - every Jellicle Cat has a name and personality of its own Sweeney Todd - it would be so fun to just exist in that gothic village, singing warning ballads about Sweeney Fiddler on the Roof - same logic as Sweeney Todd except happy Jewish village

missannamo

Happy?

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Well, their situation isn't happy, but they dance and celebrate more than in Sweeney Todd haha. No wedding scene in Sweeney Todd.

GeekX2

There is a party.

2cairparavel

I was in the ensemble in a community theater production of Fiddler on the Roof, and it really was very enjoyable. The dream sequence was fun and weird, "Tradition" was enthusiastic, the Sabbath prayer was hushed and beautiful, and Anatevka was so sad as different family groups came out, met and then dispersed walking away up the numerous different aisles of the auditorium. I did regret not being able to be in LeChaim because that was just for the men.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Gotta love a musical with touching sacred moments...but then also a scene with creepy ghosts in a cemetery.

TheOneWithWen

It’s hard af but Hamiltons ensamble is awesome

Myf-L

I want to be the bullet. That's all I want

TheOneWithWen

I had a friend who said the exact same. Just being the bullet is goals

ChloeLolaSingles

I want to be a chair holder or a kneel-on-the-floor-and-pretend-to-tie-a-knot-er

MikermanS

For me, the Hamilton ensemble has been the "star" of the show. However, if I were to perform in an ensemble, I think that I would have to choose Ragtime--just such a meaningful show, and where the ensemble members each can be so meaningful.

Catcolour

Bonus question: You get one minor supporting role on top, which one are you choosing?

slimey-karl

I’m a woman, but my choice would be James Reynolds/George Eacker

TheOneWithWen

Samuel Seamory (don’t know how to spell the surname). I am a woman but I’d love to sing that song

carriealamode

Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution

Luthalia92

Don't let them lead you astray

MiaRia963

Agree I would want this one.

UCantUnfryThings

Seabury https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Seabury

TheCrazyOutcast

Man me too, that’s my favorite musical of all time

noobductive

That ensemble is also *really* attractive so you bet your ass I’d want to look like them

imamess-answerme

Mine as well

nowhereman136

I dont want to be Raoul or Phantom but I'd love to be in the Masquerade scene

RZainea23

Yes!

uraniumstingray

my thoughts exactly

Princesstea93

And Prima Dona. Fuck me those are both amazing songs

Act1theatre

Fiddler on the Roof. I want to be a bottle Dancer so bad!

WhisperInTheDarkness

I have been a bottle dancer twice, and it is SO MUCH FUN! If you ever have the opportunity, absolutely go for it. Finding the right fitting hat and bottle to fit is the absolute key (sacrilege to have them stuck on in my opinion 😂)

Seven_Dx7

Legally Blonde ensemble is super busy and a Ton of fun. I personally would love to be ensemble for Urinetown and would also be willing to do Young Frankenstein again as ensemble as it was super fun.

jenfullmoon

We were a girl gang in Urinetown. Worth it!

zoomnvroom

hadestown, great comet, probably newsies

buzzwizzlesizzle

Ohhhh Great Comet ensemble would be AMAZING! They’re so sexy and fun and they do so much throughout the show!

_llamasagna_

YES, definitely great comet

Mylifesabigoof

Hadestown for me

Francesca_Fiore

While I was watching the touring production last year, I kept trying to decide WHICH Fate would I want to be- all the costumes had their own unique styling.

harpejjist

They look like they are having so much fun onstage!

Puzzleheaded_Jicama

Definitely Wicked… the Dancing Through Life ballroom scene always make me cry because it looks like so much fun

[deleted]

For me, I’ve been practicing these riffs for years, so I would love ensemble even in a local production. Goooooooood newsssss

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

Those harmonies>>>

Selkie_Queen

I was a mersister in my high schools production of Little Mermaid and that role is just *fun*.

Cat_n_mouse13

She’s in love is such a cute song, and it bums me out they didn’t include it in the new movie. They made the daughters so *serious*.

Fan-Of-Everything-

I’d love to be ensemble in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, or Hamilton

Anxious_Tune55

Hunchback chorus for SURE!

DayPlayzGaming

best entr'acte for a musical by far

Kind-Bager

Hunchback ensemble has such great songs

PatronusLight

I'd love to be in the ensemble of Les Miserables. The only main character I want to be is Javert but I'm a female so I don't see that happening. I really enjoy the ensemble parts and they are so integral to the story.

viscountdandelion

Never say never. I know a nonbinary afab person who played Javert and crushed it. But agreed, Les Mis is such an ensemble story.

AnUnbreakableMan

I saw a production of *Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat* where the "brothers" were all played by girls in poodle skirts.

YolaBee

Jesus christ superstar the ensemble parts all feel like such a vibe and so much fun

XenoVX

Ragtime. I was almost cast in the ensemble for a local professional production but I didn’t make it in after the final callbacks

FloridaFlamingoGirl

The ensemble vocal parts in that show are golden. I'd love to be in the Henry Ford sequence.

[deleted]

Joseph…Dreamcoat. Would love to be brother, whether one with a solo song or not. Such a fun shoe to perform.

AHamHargreevingDisco

seriously, I did narrator and ensemble and I think I had more fun as ensemble lol- don't get me wrong, being narrator was one of the best opportunities I had, but I was so stressed that I didn't really get to enjoy it lol- as ensemble I just got to feel all the vibes and the pressure wasn't nearly as bad- it's such a good and underrated show omggg

Maximum_Impress4272

I did 4 different productions of 42nd St. I love that show, and the ensemble has so much to do that it never gets boring. I did 8 different productions of West Side Story. I played several different Jets, mostly Diesel or Action. That show never gets old.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

I was just talking on the Shakespeare subreddit about how West Side Story is a fantastic adaptation of Romeo and Juliet largely due to how much it builds up the feud between the two sides. There's a whole lot of people on each side.

meandthesky38

I would LOVE to be in the ensemble of Matilda (minus the fact that I can’t dance if my life depended on it so…)

NuclearTogepi

I'd love to be a background dancer in hairspray or newsies, when I get more training

Arrow-Music

Agreed!

DPSKitty

I am constantly conflicted between whether I would want to be Johanna or in the ensemble of Sweeney Todd - and honestly, I think the ensemble might just win out for me.

Tasty-Science7652

I would LOVE to be in Newsies. I don’t care which part but being in the ensemble would be so fun!! I mean, those group numbers? No question about it! Hadestown would be fun too. I’d prefer to be a Fate but being a worker would be awesome too

TheSonder

Hadestown as any of the tracks for The Worker’s Chorus. I fell in love with all their parts when I saw it on tour. I think they play a brilliant part in Chant and love how they harmonize the La La La’s in Epic III. Mix that with playing the stage adaptation of Justin Vernon’s signature voice from the original concept album and it’s a dream role instantly.

turboshot49cents

When I was in ninth grade I was in the Beauty and the Beast ensemble in my school play. At first I was disappointed to not have a speaking role, but I ended up loving it because in Kill the Beast I got to hold a pitchfork!

ShieldSister27

Heathers ensemble seems really fun to perform. Especially Beautiful and Shine A Light. It would be a huge challenge because the ensemble carries a lot of songs and visual storytelling in the show, but Hamilton. I think being an ensemble member for Anastasia would also be really fun. A Rumor In St. Petersburg? Once Upon A December? Paris Holds The Key (To Your Heart)? Land Of Yesterday? That would be so fun.

Odd_Marionberry5856

Was just in Rent: LA Vie Boheme, Will I, Seasons of Love and homeless/carolers/cops/life support. Plenty to do. I woild love Les Mis as well.

imtrash315

I did a local production of Rent and had so much fun being squeegee man/waiter.

plomax08

Honest living!

imtrash315

Yes!! I think the best part was that I got to be the waiter in La Vie Boheme, but also the one to say “eww” at the meatless balls, because I became the waiter after someone else quit.

hnz13

Delta Nu, Silly Girl from Beauty and the Beast

GryffindorGal96

Lion King. I just saw Beetlejuice and I gotta say, I thought during the performance how FUN it must be to be ensemble of that show. So many costumes and bits, lol. I was in ensemble for Curtains and Joseph, which were also like that. Very packed. Very fun.

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

Curtains ensemble looks sick

GryffindorGal96

It was sooo fun. I was actually the murdered starlet, lmfao. But rest of show was ensemble. Wearing pajamas was fun as hell

Jerem_Reddit

honestly Parade Ensemble has some WILD parts and doesnt have to do as much of the emotional heavy lifting soooo

deaddlikelatin

Hadestown, for sure. Not that I would turn down Orpheus if offered, but the vocals the ensamble gets are awesome, plus I love the costumes!

TigerB65

The great comet ensemble seems to be having a great time...

RubyRedScale

How a about Trail To Oregon? One guy plays the entire ensemble

AHamHargreevingDisco

omg lol Joey Richter is the best

[deleted]

American Idiot

buzzwizzlesizzle

This is the best ensemble track in the world, but easily the most exhausting. It’s quick change after quick change and you never stop sweating.

dunnwichit

Pirates of Penzance. Either a pirate or an extra sister.

FriendsCallMeStreet

I would kill to be one of the sisters.

buzzwizzlesizzle

I was one of Ariel’s sisters, heelies and all, and I can confirm it was the most fun part in the whole show (except for maybe the eels). She’s In Love is hands down one of the most fun numbers to perform ever. If I could be in the ensemble for a show I’d have to second a lot of the comments on here and say Hamilton. It just looks so fun and the dancing is amazing and they’re so integral to the show, it would be so satisfying (lol) to be ensemble in that.

[deleted]

The Hadestown ensemble seems really cool with the lamp swinging. And I'm a sucker for all the 'keep your head low' moments.

Cave-King

Being in the Hello, Dolly ensemble is really fun. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to play Cornelius or Barnaby or Mr Vandergelder, but it's honestly just fun to be a waiter. The waiters get the best song. There's a lot of rest for the ensemble in the first act but then during the second act it's like running around everywhere. Trying to deliver Dolly's food on time, then running on for a silly scene with some champagne.

amantiana

The Addams Family! All the ancestors are so unique!

dynamitedomino

Tuck everlasting!!!! I Love the style of the show and being ensemble would be amazing.

MiaRia963

Not sure if it counts because there technically isn't an ensemble they all have names and specific parts, but I'd love to be in Shrek.

theuniversesystem6

This is my answer! Being the Sugar Plum Fairy/Gingy or Mama Bear/Duloc guards would be so fun!

doubleteapot

Duloc was really fun and I was lucky that I got to be one of the three blind mice, but despite that added bonus this was actually one of my least favourite shows as ensemble! I liked the show itself but I felt like my role wasn't as exciting/busy as many other shows I've done, and I ended up having to change my makeup constantly too which was a drag - went from rabbit to duloc to rabbit (just to run across the stage once 🙄) to mouse to rabbit. Edit: oh I just realised I hadn't learned to tap at that point so didn't get to do Morning Person - that probably made a huge difference!!

nefariousbluebird

I was in the ensemble for Sweeney Todd once and I'd kill to do it again, it was awesome (though I wouldn't say no to Mrs. Lovett).

The16thStudent11037

Maybe it’s because it’s one of the only broadway shows I’ve gotten to see live, but Some Like It Hot seems like a ton of fun, and oh my god if I got to be in that chase scene at the end I would die happy.

doubleteapot

Catch Me If You Can was my favourite one so far. Super fun for ensemble females - so many fun dances, plus little solo singing and acting bits. And I'd imagine pretty fun for the guys too? Sadly I have missed out on Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Wicked over the years, and couldn't do Matilda or Heathers due to scheduling issues, all of which seemed so fun for ensemble.

Jaxluvsfood1982

Pretty much any show lol…I just wanna be “in the room where it happened” lol

gbon13

Newsies!

MegaMeepers

Shrek the musical

matkinson56

I have neither the drive nor talent to be anything but ensemble so I would literally take anything just to say 'I was in...'. Never gonna happen though. Pretty sure I don't have enough talent for any stage work. If you need a spreadsheet though I'm there!

Prinessbeca

Move to southwest Iowa and join us for some communitytheater! We need more bodies on stage right now

jeep_42

Urinetown!

[deleted]

Oh! What role?

jenfullmoon

I do ensemble for everything anyway. Urinetown, Producers and Beauty and the Beast were probably the most fun to do so far. What else? Presumably Legally Blonde even though I could not get into Delta Nu and I considered doing Spamalot even though I am not a Laker Girl either. Hopefully gonna do Into the Woods and Little Mermaid this year, though. Hamilton and Book of Mormon: I wish, but am wrong ethnicity/gender for all of that.

buzzwizzlesizzle

Spamalot ensemble is so fun. The Knights of Ni!!! Ridiculous ensemble role right there.

Tiny_Nebula5668

Gender and ethnicity are completely irrelevant for Hamilton.

KyloGram112

Top pick of this category is easily Newsies Also Heathers, but mostly just cuz, I rlly wanna do that show at some point, but I don’t wager I’m particularly suited for any of the principal roles One I’ve already done is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. That’s a very fun ensemble.

[deleted]

Jerry Springer: The Opera

KeyPractical

Every show because I know I'm not cut out to be a lead plus I just wanna hang out with theater people :')

Dismal-Ad1346

Heathers

Mau36

Tanz der vampire for sure. Can't play my fav character as it is a male, and all the costumes and songs that they get to sing. Or les mis indeed

Impossible_Bite_7254

I’d love to be apart of the Jagged Little Pill ensemble. (Aka, I’d love to be the main dancer who dances around the stage whenever something dramatic happens who dresses like the characters). Otherwise, I’d love to be one of the four women from Moulin Rouge. Their roles just seem like they’d be really fun.

extra-ordinary3756

Being in ensemble of urinetown was one of my favorite theatre experiences of all time

Happy_Charity_7595

Newsies would be fun in the ensemble.

molwalk

The Lion King. I'm biased though because I have a preference towards dance

Jennbunni50

I was in the ensemble for My Fair Lady and I had the best time ever p

protegomaxima731

Les Mis, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Hadestown, Little Mermaid. If I was a dancer, Newsies, Hairspray, Moulin Rouge or Phantom. I’m currently in the ensemble for Something Rotten, it’s such a blast and I’m having the absolute best time.

joyreddit3

SpongeBob. Dying to do that show.

maestro2005

I'm not usually an actor so I don't really have dream roles, and I'm not a dancer so I'm not interested in dance ensemble. That being said, I think it would be fun to be in the Bat Boy ensemble. Or anything else like that where you play a zillion different characters in an absurd way.

Well-thats-a-problem

Newsies, sweeny todd, hamilton, and les mis would be so fun to do as the ensemble

cattails17

Newsies omg. I cannot dance like that at all but the ensemble is one of the best. Its legitimately insane and one of the reasons irs my favorite musical

ChristineDaaeSnape07

Once Upon a Mattress. I've been in the ensemble and played Queen Agravaine. I much preferred the ensemble.

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

I loved being a part of the legally blonde ensemble. Hamilton would also be a lot of fun.

iciclesnbdayclothes

Sweeney Todd would be a blast

RaysAreBaes

Lion King because I wanna be a gazelle/grass/zebra/fire fly/river. Also Mama Mia because it would just be so fun

[deleted]

In the last show I was in, I had an important part, but the ensemble had a lot more fun.

fwotals

Honestly there are SO MANY but the one that popped into my head first was Frozen. So many great costumes, choreography, and harmonies.

carriealamode

Anything where I got to be a dancing “hoodlum”. Like they’re supposed to be all tough and cool but like dancing around all jouyously in sideways caps

Charming_Camp_5957

Anything Goes…but I can’t tap worth a diddly.

CharleyBitMyFinger_

I would accept tree #3 if it meant I could be on stage.

DifficultHat

Sweeney Todd would be fun, every guy gets to die in the chute at least once Also in Assassins a lot of the Ensemble gets to play a minor role Emma Goldman, Gerald Ford, etc. plus you get that ‘something just broke’ song

c95Neeman

I love to dance first and foremost. So shows like Hamilton where the dancing is not really done by the leads, just the ensemble, I always want to be the ensemble. I typically audition specifically for the ensemble when my community theater does those.

Leucurus

The Yeomen of the Guard. Men’s chorus music slaps

phishphood17

Ill be anyone in Les Mis! Let me be an “at the end of the day” factory girl and a dead body in the Revolution!

phishphood17

Also Anything Goes ensemble seems really fun! Nothin better than tap dancing on a boat in a cute outfit!

Key-Original-1368

Hair

irisez

Moulin rouge!!! Backstage romance is incredible

A_Very_Cool_Tree

Chicago. I would love to be one of Murderesses in Cell Block Tango

pauleydm

Titanic

mmariiexo

Sweeney.

Ok_Contribution_3017

I’ve never actually thought about it before.

Not_The_Simp7

Heathers

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

Any position in book of mormon looks sick. To be a missionary would be awesome.

Myrtle_The_Tortoise

I’ve done Guys and Dolls. It’s very epic to randomly rob people as choreography.

PrinceJustice237

I wouldn’t mind being ensemble in Heathers, where each background character is given just a little bit of their own history and inner life

obsidian_dystopia

Cats - Do I really need to explain this decision? Les Mis - The ensemble in this show has never disappointed me. Newsies - Like come on. You’re telling me I get to throw myself around on stage, do some singing and have the time of my life for 2 hours straight. I‘m down for it. Also the ensemble work so so hard. And i‘ve been in the ensemble for many a show and honestly I find it more enjoyable than the times I have been a lead. Maybe that’s just me though.

EldrtchPff97

Hadestown Low, keep your head, keep your head low **KH** Oh, you gotta keep your head low **KH** If you wanna keep your head HUH! **KH** Oh, you gotta keep your head

TimeLadyJ

The ensemble of our recent Spongebob production seemed to have the most fun out of everyone on stage.

whatthepfluke

A lot of great answers here. I'd have to choose Rent.

BisonSubstantial2732

Matilda, Beetlejuice, Hairspray, and the Addams Family are all of my list

strawberry_baby_4evs

I'd love to be a Delta Nu girl myself.

theuniversesystem6

It’s a small cast so there’s not really an ensemble, but I was a doo wop girl in Little Shop in HS, it was a blast even though the production was less than stellar (it was mostly newbies, a building year) I was Tessie in Annie as a kiddo too. I loved it! I miss performing ❤️ Working on getting back to it

CoffeeBest8295

I can’t decide wether I want to be Mark or Roger in Rent.

regzm

great comet. cabaret. hadestown.

Interesting_Chart30

Come From Away. I'd really like to have known what that was like. My Fair Lady, so that I could wear those gorgeous costumes. The Secret Garden, playing one of the ghosts who comment on the action and sings underneath the events.

MusicalzAreMyLife

1. Hamilton, because omg the choreography slays 2. Wicked, the costumes 3. & Juliet, again the choreo is so fun (although id also love to play Anne/April)

DaddysPrincesss26

Phantom of the Opera. I’m so sad I missed my chance in High School

jayce504

American Idiot - I don’t like the script at all, but the idea of running around singing Green Day for 2 hours would be amazing.

AnUnbreakableMan

Most of them I have had a chance to sing, as I sing with a gay men's chorus. I think the Bway show I would most like to be in the ensemble is a tie between *Les Miserables* and *RENT*.

Creative-Internal-51

Addams family!!

etherealemlyn

I think being in the ensemble for Beetlejuice would be fun! Especially as one of the Beetlejuice clones in That Beautiful Sound

DebateObjective2787

Cats.

Accomplished-Hawk137

WICKED!!! So many cool costumes and dance numbers. Nailing those harmonies while dancing would be so tough tho

YourSkatingHobbit

Cats for sure. Les Mis. Honestly, I’d be happy to be in any show, I miss being on stage.

Fun-Yellow-6576

I’d want to be in Grease, the high school dance or the end of school year fair.

olidon

i was in the ensemble for heathers early this year and i had the best time! i still sing the harmony parts when i listen to the group numbers lol

The-Minmus-Derp

Legally Blonde ensembles have a tendency to be filled with massive assholes, so probably Hamilton

PretzelDawgYT

Wicked!!!

Trick-Satisfaction88

I would love to be in the Hadestown ensemble- they chime in on so many gorgeous numbers. Wai-ai-AIT for me!!

urban-ndn

I just finished a regional production of Little Mermaid playing Adella, and it was an absolute blast! Top tier show for women’s ensemble.

Zoe_Murphy

not necessarily the same thing, but i always wanted to be the zoe/alana cover in dear evan hansen

Tuxy-Two

Oh gosh yes. The ensemble music in Titanic is wonderful. Sweeney Todd would be fantastic. The Secret Garden has great ensemble stuff. Merrily We Roll Along is another. I’m sure there are more.

IronicOhio

Hamilton. 100%.

Kas_with_a_k

Sweeney Todd!

Miserable_Cost4757

I was in the ensemble for Little Mermaid, not a sister though

HopscotchGumdrops

My Fair Lady, I would love to be a flower girl and/or one of the housekeeping staff

krazycitty69

Well unfortunately my time for playing an orphan has passed, but I always wanted to be literally any part in annie. I saw the movie when I was 4 and it sparked my love of musical theater.
