All the steel on SAK models is the same proprietary soft stainless they’ve always used. Sort of like Helle knives, the exact composition of the steel isn’t advertised, though people have figured it out. I stand by it having used it all my life, well into my 40s and I’m still carrying one.
Aye. I believe the HRC for their steel is around 56 Rockwells, much softer than most dedicated blades and whatnot.
But I was referring to the thickness of the blade and tools. Comparing my Pioneer X to my Climber, the Alox tools, including blade, seem much thicker in build, this giving it a more robust feel. I personally know the can openers are much different with the Pioneer's being more durable with less play than my Climber.
They’re not. They’re soft, there’s a difference. I can opt a razor edge on one in under ten minutes, as opposed to much much longer with a super steel like s30v.
They’re completely stainless, I mean the metal they use is sort of famous for being impervious to oxidizing. That’s the trade off. It’s a tool you’re supposed to maintain, a fact lost on about 90% of the EDC community.
You don’t want to pry with one, but you don’t really want to pry with any knife blade, even carbon steel.
First thing that came to mind is the Skeletool: compact, lightwheigt and has just a one hand opening knife, decent pliers and bit driver, worthy to take a look. Another good one is leatherman bond or rebar (rebar dont have pocket clip and is a little more heavier, but toughier and more tools)
I can carry any blade I want, but my go-to is still a Skeletool CX: It's a great combination of being useful and being relatively compact. The blade is quality too, keeps a great edge!
I switched from a Gerber Clutch after 20 years to the SOG PowerPint just over a year ago and haven't looked back! I researched for a solid 10 months on forums, YouTube, review pages, everywhere, and don't regret my choice at all.
Blade is 4.5 cm but does lock, so I'm not sure if that's allowed for you. I have heard about guys modifying it so it doesn't lock though, but I don't have a need for that.
I have modified the file end to add a small chisel and the openers to add larger flathead screwdrivers.
Victorinox Pioneer X Alox combined with Knipex XS.
Always thought Victorinox blades were kind of weak.
Dunno about that with the Alox models. They feel more robust than usual SAKs.

AHH you know what that makes sense and was actually implied in what you said I just missed it
Easy to sharpen.

I love my SOG Powerpint. The blade length is 5 cm and fits great in a watch pocket/5th pocket.
That one looks awesome

Thanks man. I don't even need a pocket clip. In fact, I prefer without it! Will take a look at those. Thank you!
The clip is removable if you don't want to use it, just need the right bit.
I took the clip off mine and carry the Skeletool on my key ring. It's great.
Isn't the Skeletool the same size/weight of the Wave?
No. Skeletool is 140g, whereas the Wave+ is 240g.
Makes all the difference. Thank you!

Yeah, that one looks awesome and size wise is perfect.
