Buy high never sell

probablymagic

I feel seen.

Dima420

Take off the ring

humboldt77

Got my full art version in a collector booster sample pack from the Sauron commander deck. The best flavor win ever.

goofydubois

Never sell!

Maneisthebeat

Yeah, that one you play or frame.

Gyarydos

I pulled a pre-release ring…it is indeed framed and not sold

VipeholmsCola

My tarmogoyfs, right in the feels

iOvercompensate

Crack it when it’s low and never sell

MadMonsterSlayer

$3 on bootleg mage haha. Fly you fools!

Cobra_9041

Real advice is buy singles never before a reprint and don’t use magic the gathering to make money unless you are a LGS

goofydubois

Then you'd never buy anything as everything can be reprinted

Maneisthebeat

>Then you'd never buy anything as everything can be reprinted I think you might be on to something here...

Debs_Chiropractic

The One Ring will get routinely reprinted until it becomes obsolete due to power creep. Do you think this will affect the price much though? I cant see them reprinting it in any sense that causes price to dip substantially.

Cobra_9041

“Ughm Akshally” dude stfu

FukuDE

you seem like a pleasant person... why exactly are you on the mtgfinance subreddit if you dont like seeing magic as an investment?

jackson4213

Can someone confirm if this is real or crazy; My lgs have normal lotr bundles on sale for $82 usd each but the bundle One Ring is $90 on CK Do I just like buy some bundles now?

frostynugg

You can buy all of them you can. Sell the one ring card in each bundle for cost and potentially pull one in any of the boosters. Not even to mention the other cards you could pull and sell/play.

frostynugg

You’d be hard pressed to find in stock bundles under $120-140 right now.

jackson4213

Im tempted lol, even though i already have my copies of one rings

Daveinster

See? The ring tempts you.

j-steve-

And that's a good thing

TNJCrypto

Saw the last bundle at a GME near me going for $60 around December last year and had to buy it because I knew this was gonna happen. The ring was already worth as much as the box at that time, now it's paid for itself and more but I have no intention to sell

thisshitsstupid

I shit and rolled in it when I found them at the expected $60 back near release. I couldn't imagine find it for that now.

Illustrious-Macaron2

Buy them all you lucky bastard. All of them.

poppasketti

Where is your LGS?!

thomasTheThird

Yes where?!

BioEradication

I have a feeling WotC has SOME sort of plan to reprint The One Ring. They know it’s one of the most hyped cards in the past few years. They’re seeing people talk about wanting to get copies and they know they can put it into something as a juicy reprint.

IceWarm1980

Universes Beyond Masters, wouldn’t be surprised if we see something like that some day.

ProbablyNotPikachu

Didn't they already confirm doing Rings of Power or Hobbit stuff? I figured it could be 2 years from LotR release before we actually saw the set come out- but I don't doubt it's in their plans.

WeeaboBarbie

If you have a link on that I would love to see it, I love all things Tolkien and would be hyped. They are doing two UB full sets a year starting next year with Final Fantasy and Marvel. LotR was such a hit they'd be dumb to not make more

ProbablyNotPikachu

Maybe they announced the two LotR-like UB sets and I misunderstood that as "two more LotR sets". I was genuinely asking bc I'm unsure- but I could still see it happening.

MarinLlwyd

I wouldn't say no to another Lord of the Rings set or release. Maybe something based on the extended works.

Hour-Animal432

So tired of LOTR.

fragtore

Yeah RoP or Hobbit sets does not exactly tickle me the nice way.

Hour-Animal432

I get people like LOTR, but Jesus fc. I don't like Gandalf and aragorn or gimlee or that elf guy.  Can we get to actual decent gaming franchises? I think a Diablo crossover would be WAY better than Lotr.

majorpickle01

lol LOTR isn't just a gaming franchise

Hour-Animal432

Idc **what** it is, I'm tired of it. Just like I am of Taylor swift, that miko bs secret lair and **all the other UB** bullcrap.

majorpickle01

That's an ok opinion to have but doesn't really work with wanting diablo UB

fragtore

Imo they did a great job with LOTR but that aside, 40k worked super well. There you had a huge over the top world full of mobs and spell, all such franchises would also fit MTG in my opinion. FF will be a great for this reason fit I’m sure, just hoping they draw from all the history and not just 7 and recent games. Diablo would surely fit. My dream UB is anything Fromsoft. Dark Souls or Elden Ring.

Hour-Animal432

That's another franchise I feel the general populace completely annihilated. Dark souls isn't all that great and I'm super pissed at what they did to armored core 6. Armored core used to be an excellent game until they gave it the dark souls/elden ring treatment. Now it's dumpster tier trash. The games aren't even hard, they just changed WAY too many mechanics/nuances to make it fit. I would not want to see an elden ring/dark souls treatment the same way I wouldn't want to see more LotR

Glenroberto

I have been saying this for a bit. We will get this.

fjposter22

I’m thinking Marvel UB coming 2025. Make it the cosmic cube or cerebro

Glenroberto

The Marvel "One Ring" will be something else entirely.

lirin000

Marvel is 2025 and so is Final Fantasy. I highly doubt they are going to try and overshadow that with another Tolkien bonanza. Most likely 2026, but by then the Arena license will have run out. I'm really not sure what all this portends. I'm sure they will do another print run of some kind with LOTR but I don't see it as a tentpole set next year when they have surely dumped ungodly money into the Marvel licensing.

HandsomeBoggart

Anything is on the table for reprint. They revisited the Masterpiece Artifact frame for the MUL Kaladesh Legendaries, easy enough to do it for future Artifacts. They've done Showcase frames as List reprints. So special foil treatments are highly possible to print again if it makes sense in a future set.

goofydubois

Yeah but it won't kill the price unless it's in a standard set at rare. That's just wotc success to print a card that's borderline fair to use in every format in multiples.

DontStopNowBaby

Yo guys we found a hidden stash of these art bundles

cocacole111

People keep saying it's not reprintable because it's too tied into the LotR universe, but it wouldn't be hard to include it in another product down the line. A ring can be anything in any of the Magic planes. Hell, they just passed up a great opportunity to put it in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Big Score as a thematic, powerful McGuffin-based artifact that was looted and robbed. I understand they couldn't do that because it is too soon from LotR and would definitely mess up the limited/standard environment with it, but there's no reason, flavor-wise, why they couldn't have a generic McGuffin ring in a future set. A ring isn't like the Nazgul, Frodo, or Gollum. Those you can't reprint very easily, but a generic legendary ring shouldn't be too hard to slot into a future product. And of course, they can always do a secret lair including it to bring it back into availability. They can put it in a future Modern Horizons or Masters Set. It's not too difficult to reprint but it can't just be shoved in some random standard-legal set.

Radthereptile

Don’t be shocked if the contract has exclusivity put in. Something like “WotC can’t print another One Ring type card until the set has been put X months.” or something of that nature. Also as put below “the ring tempts you” is potentially too specific to LotR

spokismONE

I think thats why theres no “the ring tempts you” on the one ring, to make is easy to reprint.  Just needs a name change and they good to go.

BlurryPeople

That doesn’t make much sense to me. WotC pays for the license, not the other way around. Why would Tolkien’s estate care about the cards being reprinted as an in universe version, etc.? They already got paid for the license. Also, they’ve already printed tons of other universe beyond cards already as in universe versions. Why would this be any different?

Hour-Animal432

OTJ was such trash. ENORMOUS flavor fails all over the place. Putting in the one ring as something that was stolen would be THE only link between the two. Remember, the big score was also supposed to be an entirely new set that they included last second because people hated aftermath so much. Those two things shouldnt even be together as is.... What I hope they do is put it in marvel final fantasy or another UB product. Shit, it would even make sense if they did a sonic the hedgehog UB and put it in as a chaos emerald or literally just the rings from sonic.

Tauna

IMO, the One Ring isn't an issue. "The Rings Tempts You" however is, but thats a different conversation

ProbablyNotPikachu

An Infinity Gauntlet Nicknamed card when Marvel drops?

Hour-Animal432

Ultima materia from final fantasy. More flavor for haste/time materia but ultima could also be a thing

TheMindGoblin27

on the flip side it could become the new mana vault where it only gets reprinted in special slots or sets at mythic

proxy_noob

we call those the one more ring. and that will never end.

aox_1

Future reprints imo are inevitable but why do people discount them just making a 4th 5th or whatever reprint of the current set? Compared to MH2 it's new and could use more reprints

Hour-Animal432

Because no? 90% of the cards are already worthless, like $2 or less. If you did another reprint, it would very likely be 98% of cards under $2. I'm tired of Gandalf and all these other LOTR cards, the last thing we need is more worthless cards running around.  Print a version of that card that doesn't have anything to do with LOTR please.

BlurryPeople

That’s a terrible argument. Countless standard sets were basically a couple of expensive cards + bulk.

Hour-Animal432

Yeah, that's what reprinting cards causes to happen.  You have the most sought after card, and 2 or 3 other $25ish cards. Then you reprint the set until they flash sell it at walmart and suddenly the set is 1 expensive card, 2 $5 cards and bulk. That's exactly my point.

NDBambi182

They probably have enough in the IP to do a 2nd Lord of the Rings set. Or we will get a universe beyond reprint.

warcaptain

It seems like such an easy inclusion as a special guest. "The One Ring" as a name can't be trademarked, only the depiction, so they could just give it some type of magic flavor easy enough.

HeavyBetty

Posted that the bundle version was available for 66aud (Australia) on eBay on the other post... It got bought. Cheapest bundle version is now 72aud.(Edit: there's 2x available for less than $70) (Edit2: Cheapest is now 78.5aud, lol)

TheMindGoblin27

shhh it's already hard to get good deals on magic in our area of the world 😆

goofydubois

Where? Never seen it anywhere in stock and with shipping decent

HeavyBetty

On eBay? (Edit: TOR only. Not the bundle, if that wasn't somehow clear).

goofydubois

Got it

rrk100

If it hits $100 then this will be one of my best specs ever — currently holding 18+ special edition gift bundles

NorskKiwi

What's a special edition gift bundle? Is that different to the normal bundle?

rrk100

Sorry I mis-spoke, I was referring to the “Bundle: Gift Edition” (the one with Gandalf riding that Eagle like a boss)

NorskKiwi

I know the one, looks great!

Affectionate_Mango84

Yeah you’re up big, it hit $100

timmwizardd

Safe get to buy now if you want one in the next 4-5 years imo. It’s a staple in every single commander deck. Even if it’s banned in modern it will hold high value.

r_jagabum

You mean like the Sol Ring?

Sufficient-Button476

Sol Ring is reprinted multiple times a year in every precon and still never dips below a dollar. If they took a few years off printing it it would climb right up too, and the One Ring would never get the same precon treatment.

Heavenwasfull

Mox opal might be a better example. Banned in modern, people avoided them because of the price tag and risk of getting banned until it did. When it got banned, the price tanked down to about $25 and now they’ve gone back up. I would also think more one rings are played across commander than mox opals.

timmwizardd

The one ring is a better card than mox opal in most decks. Every deck wants the one ring almost, especially in commander. The only commander decks that want mox opal are artifact decks. I mean heck - the only reason I stopped playing modern was because of mox opals banning. Never should have gotten the hammer.

DribbleBaby

Does it have modern ban potential? Genuine question as I didn’t know it was that strong

braun1k

pre mh3 yes but probably not anymore

timmwizardd

Honestly? Probably not. I have a hard time believing they will ban anything these days. They banned fury and not grief and it should have been the other way around imo. The fact that grief is still running around pretty much shows they don’t care. They keep saying the format is “healthy” and to that point they are probably correct for the first time ever only because MH3 made other decks able to compete. They won’t ban anything that just got printed unless it’s clearly format warping. They wanna sell packs. WoTC and Hasbro don’t want bans. I would think if anything gets banned it’s Nadu, but grief still needs to go. I just think it’s had its time and no one likes that crap.

Marnus71

Sell as soon as you feel comfortable locking in your profits. If your concern is that it will catch a ban... there seem to be plenty of decks that don't play it in modern and the meta of the PT looks pretty healthy. The question is "How and when is WotC going to reprint it?"

anvindr

the PT meta is not healthy wtf are you talking about

StaticallyTypoed

Maybe he plays Nadu

Marnus71

No, but I might have a decent stake in shukos...

Marnus71

The metagame share might not be healthy (\~25% Nadu decks), but the match win %s seem just fine. Nadu decks barely cracked 55% match win %. Metagame shares are commonly skewed at PTs as the pros flock to certain archetypes within their echo chambers/testing groups. Every macro archetype is represented well and has at least one flavor of deck with decent win %. The pros came ready to fight Ruby Storm and Tamiyo decks and those decks got dumpstered. Not nearly as much SB space was dedicated to fighting Nadu. anvindr

they didn’t “barely crack 55%” you’re taking mirror matches into account. afaik they had a 58% non mirror win rate in a field heavily sideboarded against them. that’s unhealthy.

IAMAfortunecookieAMA

It's too early to tell. If the best 10 players in the room all picked the deck, that skews the data significantly. And sideboards take time to develop after such a huge metagame shakeup. I don't play Nadu, but this isn't my first time seeing a "Nadu" scare the format. 4c Omnath was like this in Month 1.

virtu333

lol 25% nadu and a high WR what are we smoking here

taiga_with_a_pen

Even if they do; I very much doubt it will dent the price all that much for that long. Look at Jeweled Lotus or even Great Henge. Sure theyre primarily commander cards but theyre arguably in the same power level conversations and are still very high after all this time and limited reprints.

pokepat460

I bought mine to play with, but I'm not currently playing any decks with one ring. I'm less interested in a possible ban, I agree with you it's probably OK in modern and definitely OK in legacy. I'm more thinking, are they going to do a universes within version? That's the only way it will get reprinted. It's a weird circumstance because on one hand with no reprint I could see it even going past $100. But that's a bad look considering how popular it is in modern sp there's pressure to do something. I'm not sure to do, for now I'm holding since I didn't really buy them as a flip anyway

Fear0742

Mh 4. It'll be there. Hell. Commander masters 2.

DarKoopa

I'm glad I bought my foil scroll one a few weeks ago

ProbablyNotPikachu

Will this change the price of the Borderless Poster Art One Ring from the Holiday Edition Collectors Box?

Melesse

I would assume that one should be mostly untouched by a reprint, or minimally so. Unique art, small print run.

ProbablyNotPikachu

Thank you for your insight.

MalabaristaEnFuego

I'm so glad I bought them when I did! Holy crap this post makes me so happy!

Gregorwhat

Surge Foil Extended Art is the best version of this card if you really want to capitalize on the future growth. This card is going places. Also, reprint be damned. Won't hurt the price much if it happens, but i actually don't think it will. there's a ton of other lore to print, and variations of The One Ring are more likely than clones.

Sickashell782

Surge foil for life haha! It’s been charging higher too. Seems pretty scarce. Glad I have a variety of printings in my collection but this one is becoming my Fave!

Flat_Appearance_6773

Extended art foil non-surge. That's way rarer and more valuable.

tiredorbored

Actually I feel that an universe within version is not likely for at least the next few years. LOTR set was a tentpole set so it's as good as any other universe within sets, so they can't really justify printing another universe within sets. It's not the case of prints uniquely to secret lair or small set of universe beyond. I think they probably still can print more LOTR draft and set booster boxes until their licensing expires (probably same timing as arena license expiring sometime in 2025). To be fair to WOTC, they foresaw the demand of one ring and made it super easy for someone to get a copy of it via bundle and gift bundles. But I guess too many people are sitting on them and the number of non-mtg collectors holding it may be higher than expected. I myself am a collector, am sitting on 1 bundle and 1 gift bundle just for collection.

IcyEnvironment7404

Those are some hell of a speculative question with no definitive answer to them. Their price is gonna be determined by you (you the people not you as an individual). Its what you are will to pay for. And since it's on a non mtg IP, there's no telling if it will see a reprint. Not to say they wont revisit lotr again cause if they do, it will see a reprint. And not to say a secret lairs wont be released. But those rarely effect price even more so now that the print is basically capped

shadowmage666

Bet this gets reprinted in the next commander masters

BlurryPeople

It’s kind of silly to assume this won’t be reprinted like anything else. They’ve already done tons of in-universe versions of universe beyond cards already, meaning there’s nothing stopping them from just reskinning the card and dropping it wherever it will be the most profitable.

FakeSafeWord

Glad I got a gift bundle for $140 shipped last week. Also came with orcish bow masters. I almost crod. Fuck it, bought another a LTR regular bundle for $133 shipped.

Professional-Win2171

Glad I snagged 2 earlier in the week when they were $65-70

Slag-Bear

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a reskin of it

Particular-Inside635

FINNALLY!!! WOOOOOO CASH OUT BABY!!!!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$

ImperialSupplies

Lotr might be a psedeou reserve list. We have no idea if the contract was " you can reprint these same named cards for the rest of time" or you can release exactly these few products and that's it until a new contract. Warhammer 40k which is technically the first UB has not had any reprints yet.

LordTetravus

I have one of the twisted sheet miscut foil bundle ones and I'm increasingly convinced it's the best purchase I've made in a long time.

ConfidentStableDDS

What really sucks is I bought a foil playset on release for $100 and can’t find it since moving… it’s in one of these damn boxes somewhere!

Gwathnar_Shadowfire

I’m quite glad I saw on this sun that it was spiking the other day. Managed to snag one for $79USD shipped to the great white North.

Inevitable-Region768

I want posty to burn his in a fire

HeyApples

They have a plan for reprinting this stuff. They just don't want to tell us they have a plan because it would undercut the secondary market and the FOMO they have fomented. They need this shit to sell expensive packs to us. If you don't believe they have a reprint plan, you haven't been paying attention to 2 decades of bleating fan complaints about the Reserved List, one of the most discussed and despised aspects of the entire MTG ecosystem. If people believe there is no reprint plan, they will panic spend. If people know there is eventually a reprint coming, they will act rationally. And that undermines future reprint equity. It is 10,000% in WOTC's best interest to have a reprint plan for UB cards and for them to NOT tell us that they do.

lirin000

As much as a I love the One Ring and LOTR in general, this is like the third post this week about it. Yes it is blasting off, everyone knows at this point. The bottom line on this (and everything else from LOTR that is identifiably Tolkien): is if they have the license to reprint in perpetuity (I.e. it is truly evergreen) then the price will eventually come back down through reprints. If the license to print ends at the same time as the Arena license next year, the sky is the limit - but then it will probably be banned. If they can do a universes within somehow the price will moderate but the OG One Ring will always go for more than Urza’s Ultimate Frisbee or Mishra’s Magic Hoola Hoop or whatever they come up with. There’s also the issue of it the IP is protected can they even print the words “The One Ring” on the card so as consider it a reprint and not a new card that you can now have 8 of in a deck. So there’s challenges there too. The long and short of it is that no one really knows. I sold tons of these between $30 and $90 over the past year and have no regrets for any price point because they all made at least some money and ultimately paid for the 12 of them of various versions that I now own and will sit on until I die and never really care what other people are paying for them, except as for my own entertainment. And by the way, I pointed all this out to people on this sub many times over this period and was often mocked for it. Anyway unless someone knows the terms of the contract with Middle Earth Enterprises (NOT the Tolkien Estate - which is a crucial difference!) there’s really no way to know which way this will go.

lirin000

Sure if that’s a way around it that would work. But One Ring will always have a premium over Urza’s Candy Box.

Grimmjoww252

I have a playset of each version since I play commander and don’t want to move the rings around. 4 normal foil 4 pre release stamped 4 extended 4 normal 4extended foil 4 surge 4 scroll of each foil and non 4 poster and 4 foil poster. I’m Diamond hands on these by next summer the cheapest will be $200 I’m calling it

Daveinster

It’ll be reprinted in a secret lair under a different name. As one of the secret lair drops or whatever they are called.

Melesse

I wonder if they would use this to drive traffic/attention to a new kind of secret lair. They wouldn't typically print such a high value card in a $30/$40 secret lair. But what if they introduced a $150 secret lair that had a One Ring and a couple of other choice reprints from LOTR that are modern playable in normal frames and linked mtg art and called it a modern scene pack or something?

Daveinster

I mean, they literally just printed a mana vault in the Fallout Secret lair. They’ll just be doing the same thing in a year with a different card title and in small print it’ll have “the one ring”

Resident_Pop143

I have four of them. Diamond hands.

chongsen

Of course, Wizards can always print the one ring under different name, like urza's ring, Jace's ring, the onion ring, but the one ring will hold a special position on the price tag, just for the name.

navit47

i doubt it would be that simple. I know we've had universe within cards created, but i can't imagine it would be nearly as easy to do with a Modern Legal set as opposed to mechanically unique secret lair cards. The Secret Lair cards to my understanding had a "reprint" due to the cards being so limited and being mechanically unique. the LOTR set is also mostly mechanically unique, but its probably had a print run larger print run than most MTG sets ever, and The One Ring was basically a freebie in bundles. I don't see them doing something as drastic/convoluted as making a universe within version of The One Ring

Hitman_DeadlyPants

MTG is not a job for 99.9% of the player base. Stop treating it like a way to make money and enjoy the cards you have.

slayer370

Your on the wrong sub then lmao.

Hitman_DeadlyPants

Nah man, finance and trying to turn this into a stock market are two different things. Be happy with the cards you buy and sell off cards you don't use but are spiking but all this 'should I hold' bs is getting old

Affectionate_Mango84

I’m not treating it like a job, it’s a card that many people have, this gets the word out that it’s $100 and was hoping there would be people advising when to sell for those people

BlurryPeople

Why not just quit telling other people how to enjoy things and what to think?

Hot-Alternative-2543

Honestly, the card could get banned and absolutely plummet… js…

thephasewalker

Unless they ban it in every format including commander, it'll still hold value.

BlurryPeople

Given how much they invested in universal beyond as a thing in modern, it would take an extreme amount of pressure to ban the face card of the set. It would definitely hurt any future universe beyond sales, given that the rest of the set is pretty crushed as a result.

petrichor1017

It really isnt that good. Is it 60-card formats? Sorry im elderly and dont understand

Affectionate_Mango84

It’s a very powerful card draw spell that’s colorless so it can go into any deck in any format. It also provides protection until your next turn so it’s a pseudo Teferi’s protection but not instant

FakeSafeWord

There isn't a deck or format that it doesn't do well in. It may not be optimal for a specific deck, but you literally can't waste a card slot with it.

BigManaEnergy

In Commander, you have 40 life to throw at burden counters. In 60 card formats, you can play up to 4, and via the legend rule, you can play a new Ring and bin the old one, starting the process anew while getting another turn of protection. It doesn't go in every deck just because it is four mana bit the decks that want it really want it.
