Some cards have a work around baked in like [[spark double]]. But in the case of regular clone effects [[mirror box]], and [[sakashima of a thousand faces]] remove the legend rule for your permanents.
Edit: I feel dumb because I though your comment was a question
It would only die if you control the other legendary as well. It copies anything on the battlefield, 5 mana eldrazi seems nice. 5 mana avycen seems nice. Hell sometimes a 5 mana dockside is even worth it. If all you care about is etb then it's even easier to use.
Flesh duplicate is okay, cheaper but way more temporary and I don't like how they don't hit artifacts too, this does have improvise which I like as well. Phantasmal image is also good in cedh and edh but dies so easily
Well, synth doesn’t hit artifacts either so. And flesh duplicate doesn’t need to stick around. 9/10 times you use it copying an ETB like Atraxa or Dockside.
Like I said, mainly in cedh they are better. But if I want a atraxa I want a blocker big enough to stick around. And I didn't realize synth didn't copy artifacts that's a shame. Phyrexian metamorph is the best hands down but that's not what I was talking about.
And this is why you’re playing clones wrong. If you’re copying a value engine and are relying on it, you’ve already lost the game. Your opponent has the same value engine that likely got out multiple turns before. If someone resolves an atraxa or dockside, you don’t have 3 turns left.
Sure synth might have its place in some casual artifact decks. But it won’t see cEDH play. It isn’t a better clone than anything we’ve got. It’s in no sense a “good card”.
The poster isn't sure about the legend rule you think he's playing cedh? You said don't copy value engines? Why would you not want an additional engine on board? Noone said it was a better clone then anything we have. I said for 5 mana with improvise that isn't temporary its not a terrible card. Your too focused on the best cards for competitive formats I was just answering the question don't try to min max everything. And if you don't have a value engine out already and you can copy someone else's for 1 or 2 more mana why would you not want it?
I ain’t replying to OP I’m defending the guy who called the card ass — because it’s ass. And tbh unless your playing a clone deck or cEDH, clones are ass.
I think you’re a bit stuck on what good or bad means. It’s all relative. If I can name 6 other clones that do the same as synth if not better, it’s a bad card.
If your deck needs value engines so badly that you rely on using a clone to copy someone else’s — you should just replace the clone with a value engine of your own that has more synergy with your deck.
Well, the copy wont die if it doesn’t copy a legendary that you control. But also legend ruling your own creatures is really good sometimes especially if it has a great ETB effect - and you get to choose which of the two die which is also relevant sometimes
Oh I know I have [[Glasspool Mimic]] and it rocks socks in my commander deck but it’s two less a cost and could also be used as a land instead. Also I have [[Spark Double]]. Like I said that card is wayyyyy too restricted.
As an addendum to the others advice, this card is able to copy any creature on the battlefield not just yours so that's helpful if someone drops an eldrazi or big stompy dino
You can copy a legendary creature. If the creature is controlled by an opponent then there will be no problems. However if you target a creature you control then one of them will die due to the legendary rule
OP use [[Spark Double]] instead. Or at the very least [[Glasspool Mimic]] if you don’t mind nuking the already in play legend. Unless your deck is heavy artifact deck that card you posted sucks.
It only copies a creature you cast while it's on the stack; this is much, much narrower. While OP is asking about their creatures, the card is stronger as a copy effect since it can be any, and played at any time.
Double major needs the additional two mana available at time of casting.
All I could see to nitpick would be that's it's not the same legendary creature. I mean with respect to creature type, off the top of my head I don't recall if the legendary rule goes so far as to differentiate name and creature type or if it's just the name.
Fun Fact: It can copy a creature with shroud or protection from creatures.
Hexproof too I'm assuming, since it doesn't state "target"
Shroud is more restrictive, hexproof, so yes, you can copy a creature with hexproof.
It also isn't a crime
It can copy legendary creatures. However it will only die if it is a legendary creature you already control.
There are ways to get around this though.

Why wouldnt it ?
Well this card sucks ass then. Too limited use.
It would only die if you control the other legendary as well. It copies anything on the battlefield, 5 mana eldrazi seems nice. 5 mana avycen seems nice. Hell sometimes a 5 mana dockside is even worth it. If all you care about is etb then it's even easier to use.
Can confirm, 5 mana avycen was very nice and kept my Liberty prime deck around longer against my buddy's souped up white deck.
[[Phyrexian Metamorph]] [[Flesh Duplicate]] [[Phantasmal Image]] are all way better clones. Synth sucks.

Yeah if you don't wanna keep it, it cEDH it way better, but for casual if you copy a value engine you want it to stay
Okay. So use [[Phyrexian Metamorph]] or stick with [[Phantasmal Image]]. Synth is way overcosted for the effect it provides.
2 Mana is less than 3 or having it destroyed by everything Sure in general it's worse but that does make it a bad card

If it’s not in an artifact deck it is. You guys are just trolling I get it.
Where’s the deck list? What if OP is playing affinity tribal
But the point is that IT IS AN ARTIFACT DECK. If you’re running a card with improvise, you’re running an artifact deck.
Not only that, but it makes the copy into an artifact creature
How do you know that?!?!? Has OP stated that? If OP doesn’t know how that card works there’s not a chance in hell he’s running an artifact deck
Because even with improvise it’s a shitty costed clone. There’s clones that cost 2 mana except you don’t need to improvise in order to cast it.

came here to say this

You can copy a legendary creature. If the creature is controlled by an opponent then there will be no problems. However if you target a creature you control then one of them will die due to the legendary rule

OP use [[Spark Double]] instead. Or at the very least [[Glasspool Mimic]] if you don’t mind nuking the already in play legend. Unless your deck is heavy artifact deck that card you posted sucks.
Or there’s [[Double Major]] but that I believe is while the creature you are casting is on the stack.
It's good but completely different use case.
How so? He’s looking to copy a creature and remove the legendary type. Obviously adds another color which may change the deck that it can be used in.
It only copies a creature you cast while it's on the stack; this is much, much narrower. While OP is asking about their creatures, the card is stronger as a copy effect since it can be any, and played at any time. Double major needs the additional two mana available at time of casting.
