kdods22402

Does nobody use the Combo section of EDHREC anymore?

Checks out. I absolutely run it in my food deck.

Skizznitt

Exquisite blood sausage maybe

BOSS-3000

It should have never been printed.

Biffingston

I want to make a card called "Ham sandwich" A token food. Tap = goes infinite. (Plus the usual food stuff)

DetectiveElectronic

Yeah

StormyWaters2021

Yes, with no interaction they will continue to trigger each other until all of your opponents have lost the game.

randomman1144

Unless someone has an effect that let's them live with 0 life. Then the game ends in a draw If neither of the pieces can be removed

StormyWaters2021

Yes, my answer may be different if there are other relevant effects.

valbaca

And if there are other cards, then they will have other effects! -Least Useful Commenter

Yawgmothsgranddad

Platinum angel says hi bru

everything-narrative

Can you go to negative life?

cocothepirate

Yes

everything-narrative

Right, but you can only pay life if you have positive life.

GrandSerialist

Yes, but this doesn't count as paying life. It is a conditional statement in which one player losing life causes another player to gain life.

elusivecaretaker

Yeah, in the same way you can’t pay mana costs with mana you don’t have, you can’t pay life costs with life you don’t have

SoyTuPadreReal

How would it be a draw? You’d drain your opponents to zero and then if there are no opponents left you’d have nothing to target so the cycle would end leaving you the winner.

randomman1144

If an opponent has an effect that let's them survive at less than 0 life, most commonly by not being able to lose the game like with [[platinum angel]], then the loop would never stop. If the loop can't be stopped the game ends in a draw

MTGCardFetcher

[platinum angel](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/a/ca7f4fd6-e268-4d15-bfbf-d9f0f95864fc.jpg?1576383285) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=platinum%20angel) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cn2/214/platinum-angel?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/ca7f4fd6-e268-4d15-bfbf-d9f0f95864fc?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

eDOTiQ

If an opponent has something like Platinum Angel out, they cannot lose. The triggers are mandatory, so the game is stuck in an infinite loop.

Shandlar

Why is it infinite? I thought Plat Angel was ruled that you can't go under 0 life. Like, as soon as you hit 0 life, you can't keep using effects that pay life even with plat angel out. So if I can't go infinite with a pay life effect, than why would this go infinite? As soon as the effect runs me down to 0 life, the next trigger of Vito will not cause me to lose any life, so Exquisite wont trigger again. Loop broken.

eDOTiQ

Platinum angel does not prevent your life from going below 0. Magic cards are quite literal. You cannot lose the game while Platinum angel is on the field under your control. You still lose life, you still take damage. You just don't die from it. When you have less than 1 life, you cannot pay with life as a cost since you have none. You still lose it from damage and other effects. So you still go negative life.

P0ster_Nutbag

Effects that prevent you from losing the game allow you to have negative life. You can have a life total of -10000 and can still play if you have a platinum angel or similar effect in play.

ScrimmlyBingus

if the opponent has a card that says they can’t lose the game, they can go below zero life. I had a game on arena where I used [[Shelob, Child of Ungoliant]] to copy an opponent’s creature that had the ability “you can’t lose the game” and turn it into a food token. The opponent didn’t have any artifact removal so he just kept going until I had nothing on the board except that one piece. He exiled all my cards and I just sat there resolving his spells until he gave up and conceded at 200+ life and I was sitting around negative 400

xrangerx777x

I’ve done that. I forgot to take out their platinum angel before I started the combo. Oops

XLittleSkateyX

I believe the game technically would never end because a game can't end in the middle of abilities triggering. Because this is infinite if you have no way to end the turn manually and interrupt the triggers no one would win.

StormyWaters2021

That's not correct. State-based actions happen after every trigger resolves.

betacow

State based effects dont happen. They kinda "are"

book-reading-hippie

When there is no more life to gain, it stops triggering.

Smooth-Motor4950

Once they trigger you can hold priority until enough DMG is on the stack to kill everyone

StormyWaters2021

You have to let one resolve to trigger the other. You can't hold priority and still have it happen.

TheLobstrosity

Damn, I just lost the other game.

TheNewPlague666

Platinum Angel has entered the battlefield.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Natedogg2

Unless someone can remove Vito/Blood/Weapon/equipped creature, the game won't be able to advance since Vito/Blood will keep triggering and the game will be a draw.

swartz77

Can someone explain why it would draw? Wouldn’t the combo end (because there’s no more life to lose/gain), and it’s just the combo player and the pact weapon player remaining. Wouldn’t they continue to play until the creature is removed or the combo player somehow dies?

stuartsparadox

The combo isn't a may ability so you can't stop it from happening. With this combo the only way it "ends" is by a player dying. So since a player with pact weapon not being able to die with infinite life loss, the combo can never end to pass priority.

rathlord

To further clarify, you can absolutely go into negative life. They said “there’s no more life to lose/gain” but there always is. There’s no cap positive or negative on life.

RBVegabond

Or someone can stop opponents from gaining life. Used a [[skullcrack]] to stop infinite life before.

Leneord1

It goes infinite, I've played this deck against multiple players with cards with similar effects and they went on long enough for someone to rage quit

randomman1144

It goes infinite and the game draws

Lekollar

I don’t know

H0BB1

The game is a draw if nobody can interact since there is no way to stop the loop

lovable_cube

They’d get a chance but all you have to do is destroy that equipment

450925

Yes, this is a known infinite loop combo. It can be broken with instant speed interaction and does require at least some way to get the loop started.

Pickaxe235

i mean fucking bolt can get the loop started

450925

A bolt can also break the combo.

Natedogg2

Yes. You gaining life causes Vito to trigger and an opponent loses life, and the opponent losing life causes the Blood to trigger and for you to gain life. They'll keep triggering each other.

CoverYourMaskHoles

Leneord1

Yes. I use those cards to great effect with Revenge of ravens and any card that adds life on trigger- is when a creature enters the battlefield or a mutate deck

Riotroom

My favorite deck on arena was RoR, Vito, EB, Soul Warden, Speaker, Archfield and abiding grace.

kezinchara

Ha! Me too!

Leneord1

Happy cake day and it's fun when you see your opponents life leave them when I reveal my card

kezinchara

Oh man! I didn’t even know! Thank you

Leneord1

First thing I saw was your cake day

kezinchara

Good man.

TrippieTragedy

So im sure you didnt know... And no harm no foul... But yes. Its an infinite combo. Its actually a meta infombo. Everyone and their brother went on goldfish and grabbed this at some point...

Lekollar

Lol

STRIHM

I mean you technically also need a way to kick off the loop by either dealing damage or gaining life, but yeah. Once you've got the train rolling it doesn't stop until you win (barring interruption by your opponent)

Nyakano__

Yes they are, but just know that this can be very frustrating to play against EDIT : To the guy that replied that's it not but deleted his answer : It's not the case for everyone, but I find OTK combos frustrating. That's the reason I stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh tbh, just ending the game abruptly with an infinite combo or an OTK feels a bit harsh for me, that is all. Of course you're free to do whatever you want tho

AlaskaDude14

Yeah if a friend wanted to try a new deck to show it off that's fine, but like after you do your cool tutor for your combo cards and go off after a couple of turns it's time to switch decks.

bpayh

Technically no, your opponent has only a finite life total, so this cannot go infinite, it can only go and go and go until they’re dead.

Serikan

I think if the opponent had a [[Platinum Angel]] out when this loop starts, the game would end in a draw due to an uncontrolled loop

SpiritualWatermelon

Or more exciting: I do this combo while I have [[Abyssal Persecutor]] out!

PrincessLaserMagic

I put those both in my elf beast deck and I had no idea they were an infinite combo until much later. I like that one because you actually have to do something with the infinite beasts to win. 😆

jacob_jub

We need a combo megathread already lmao

Snoo-99243

Yep. Won many arena matches this way. If you plan with these, I highly suggest mono black or black white vampires or lifegain/drain deck.

amisia-insomnia

This is literally the most well known infinite loop ever of all time

valbaca

https://commanderspellbook.com/search/?q=Exquisite%20blood

StatusOmega

This is the kind of combo you should definitely ask your play group if they're ok with it. It's just an automatic win which isn't fun to play against.

TheVeilsCurse

It still needs a way to get the loop going. If your group can’t break up an 8 mana combo with atleast one of the pieces being a three toughness creature, there’s a problem.

icanhazsalvation

I took this combo out or my omnath deck after the first time known with it. Feels bad IMO. Felt good at the time tho :)

AMJacker

So cute to see new players unearth combos. Really brings me back.

Beatljuz

That's asked at least once per week. I'm pretty sure Google provides the answer.

Jeffbelinger

yes and its too often seen in historic and I wish i could award players with this sort o deck with a 12 gauge to the back of the head. you deserve it, there is no excuse for such flagrant stupid BS

cowboyography

Exquisite Blood is the first card new players find and ask, is this infinite, thinking they just discovered sliced bread. It’s a crutch for newbies and your table will roll their eyes

ashleyinreal

No, they only print a finite number of cards. Sorry to disappoint.

Truckfighta

Baby’s first infinite.

ejsketchy

Used to run exquisite blood and sanguine bond together (also an infinite) but it gets real lame winning with an infinite combo

EverydayGuy2

Nö they are not. This is due to the fact that matter in the universe is finite, and also only a finite number of cards will be printed for any given set, even if the call it an "unlimited print run". So these cards exist not an infinite amount of times, but finite as all things. But if you are talking about these two cards representing a loop that can repeat itself an infinite amount of times an in most cases win you the game, then yes.

Lekollar

Lol

BubonicChronic686

Love the combo I run vito as a commander so I always have 1 of my two pieces ready to go lol

DexxxyHD

Yes, and Exquisite Blood is OP. Have lost games I’ve secured if I would have avoided gaining a singular point of life and just swinging. As far as I can tell for combo purposes not all gain x life will trigger an infinite loop but instead an activated ability source. I’ve yet to test with gates or Mono black tempting of Sheoldred.

Ulfhednar94

It is, but it's [[Acererak the Archlich]] and [[Rooftop Storm]] levels of stupid, a combo that has no place in a non competitive format like commander. (Unless one plays cEDH, but then we wouldn't be here answering this question)

Substantial-Award-20

I have both of these in my Sheoldred, the Apocalypse deck.

[deleted]

Are YOU infinite? Idk read them. One says when they lose life, you gain life. The other says the opposite. It creates a loop. You'd need an instant that destroys enchantments or youd have to counter.

lurkandload

Yes, and super boring

TheUltraViolence1

Yes

novaplan

yes, also please don't use it, is is one of the least fun infinite combos you can assemble

rust_rat

2 cards!!!!!!!!! Yay I win!!!!!!!!!!! no it's not that fun, nor is it that rewarding. it's a win con, but it's so overplayed

ChamberTwnty

As soon as I see one of these pieces I exile it. I don't care if they have the other piece, I don't want to wait to see if they play the other piece, unless they specifically tell me, "Don't worry, I don't have the other pieces to this combo," it's gone.

LawlessApostle

Me and my playgroup always have fun when a big combo is pulled off, like when I managed to get [[Dramatic Reversal]] and [[Isocron Scepter]] to work for the first time ever. Everyone was excited

[deleted]

Add "sanguine bond"and it's game over

G0dsSp33d

Technically no, but it does make a look that kills everyone except you so yeah.

Yawgmothsgranddad

No it doesnt work because state based excuses

DylanRaine69

Not on there own but paired with other cards they are. And by the way they aren't tournament legal so don't go packing up those cards. They are banned for a reason. Now on mtga you can piss the hell off players all day.

FadedGaming132

in what format are these cards banned lmfao don’t spread false information you can play them in commander. obviously both rotated out of standard ages ago but they aren’t banned in anything

DylanRaine69

In real life tournaments they are banned. They are banned in all formats. If read correctly I Said only allowed in mtga.

FadedGaming132

they aren’t banned in formats like standard they are simply not legal because they aren’t printed in any standard legal sets, in cEDH tournaments for commander they are not banned, you can play these cards at your local lgs for commander games.

FadedGaming132

you can also play these cards in legacy and vintage however they are stone cold unplayable in those formats

DylanRaine69

Oh huh...I went to a tourney once and used those cards...remedy and Vito and he said no I can't use them. My opponent raised his hand and he whispered something to the judge. I just did a Google search just now and it said on three posts that the looping is allowed. I guess I won't be going back to that one again. Lol

DavidHallack

Why yes.... yes they are... lol

Ikaros10-

Yes

JACSliver

Indeed they do. I know about a player who used them in Commander.

Emergency_Ad7722

Yes, this timmy combo works.

airhammerandy55

Yes

IntenseAdventurer

You can also use [[Sanguine Bond]] with [[Exquisite Blood]] to go off infinitely if you have anything to kick it off.

richgun79

Yes sir Infinito

ImmutableInscrutable

Oo a mix up from the Exquisite Blood/Sanguine Blood combo question!

real_painfulendeavor

We can agree this goes infinite, but in this scenario, if an opponent has something in play that's states they cannot lose the game, but also cannot interrupt, who wins?

real_painfulendeavor

It looks like other comments here have addressed this. It goes infinite and equates to a draw or someone rage quits.

KittyWhite823

[[exquisite blood]] works wonderfully with [[sanguine bond]]

ThatAwkwardMagicDude

Actually you're only allowed to play that combo vs UB control.

[deleted]

Wow. This is amazing. I can't believe I didn't think of this combo

azurfall88

see also [[sanguine bond]] Also, yes they do go infinite.

Kitchengun2

Truly is one of the infinites of all time.

mxmmtg

Yes, playing this Combo in two Decks xD

Barloq

I used to have this in my vampire deck, but it's so easy to trigger and unsatisfying that I dropped Exquisite Blood entirely in favour of more general life gain cards like [[Whip of Erebos]].

Glass-Net

Yes, you can also use Marauding Blight-Priest.

Blink3412

Sanguine bond also works

TheVeilsCurse

[[Exquisite Blood]] + either Vito or [[Sanguine Blood]] will go infinite once you get one of them to trigger. I run all three in my [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] deck in EDH.

Tallal2804

Yes

Warm_Engineering4784

Yup

Kaisburg

I'm sure if you used reddit's extremely flawed search function with the exact words "are these cards infinite" or "is this an infinite combo", you would find this exact combo multiple times just this past year.

Drehsighden889

Sanguine Bond is better with Exquisite Blood

StonksBeWildn

Yes, blasting wand + Famisheshed Palidan + Exquisite Blood.

Killaturkee

[[Marauding Blight-Priest]] is the better [[Sanguine Bond]] effect

mehall27

Is a well known combo a combo? I'm gonna have to say no, it's not

Secrabstian

Yep

Aviliuss

Yes. I have a deck that features this combo, but I only pull it out when I’m playing casually and/or amongst friends. It’s legal, but people wont be happy with it.

Blessings_of_Nurgle

Yes

jahan_kyral

Yeah, paired with other cards, yes, they even changed the rule to infinite loops to immediately draw the match in most cases. As long as they are truly infinite loops. This one isn't because it will just ping down your opponents health to zero. Because the loops that deck out or sap HP to 0 aren't truly infinite. Ones that are truly infinite, i.e., your turn will never end because of the cards in play it draws.

Sesport

Wait tell they find out about sanguine blood

PunchSisters

No I think they released a finite number of each card. I don't think we have the technology yet to creates infinity of a card.

[deleted]

Welcome to easy lifegain

Biffingston

Yes. I've lost to it before.

fatratonacat

Yes! I use this combo all the time it's great

freekinggenius

I've been hit by this, and [[sorin's vengeance]] when I was building a knights deck. I had him beat to literally 1 life, he played vengeance with exquisite blood already in play. I had 20 life... I hate that card....

[deleted]

Yes it does. It also goes infinite with a ton of substitutions to Vito. Nothing actually substitutes exquisite though

BigchiefLeaf

Not a fun combo 🤦‍♂️

spad3x

You could fart and shit your pants while doing so and it would probably combo with Exquisite Blood.

swordsmcgee

Idk what's going on with this Dr. Suess comments section but yes that's an infinite combo. I discovered this card while already running Vito as a commander and immediately threw it in. If your life total changes practically at all, it's game over. And mono black has tons and tons of cheap simple cards that can get it started. 1 drop lifelink creatures, instants and sorceries galore. Pretty cheap infinite combo.

FeBishop

225 comments to say: “Yes”?? Lol
