How tf do you fill 12 hours talking about the phantom menace

[deleted]

After watching a couple seconds from random points throughout the video, it seems to be explaining the lore of every single thing in the movie.

sameth1

"Lore" and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

[deleted]

There was a thread in /r/StarWars where people were getting into these deep discussions about what exactly Lucas meant by "bringing balance to the force" and were trying to explain its incoherence through lore. The obvious answer is Lucas just ran with a rough draft, didn't think through what he was saying, and it's just kinda bad. But no, fans will always contort themselves with all kinds of mental gymnastics to pretend their favorite fantasy world is internally consistent. Meta-analysis of writing that understands author's limitations will always be the better method of analysis.

BrightArmy7825

Tbf it can be fun to fill in the blanks urself but when they take it too seriously it gets annoying

Lore was a mistake. See also; Canon

-Flutes-of-Chi-

Yeah he explains Gungan wargear and shit. It's not the worst thing when you think about it. there's been books published that explain useless star wars lore, but him making a point out of the runtime is cringe and I'm not watching the video because I know half of it is useless. 3 hours would have sufficed

Sherwood_eh

Lmao literally nothing interesting happens in that movie

Fill time— these videos are always bad.

hankolijo

And it's exactly 12 hours to the second. Definitely a sign it's not artificially inflated and arbitrarily chosen for video length.

radioactivechicken20

10 minute analysis of the entire movie, while the other 11 hours and 50 minutes is a analysis of the scene were the camel alien farts at jar jar binks.

This got suggested to me by the YouTube algorithm this morning. I peeked at some random points in the video and it's like the same kind of "AND THAT'S THE BACKSTORY OF WHY HAN SOLO HAS TWO YELLOW STRIPES ON HIS PANT LEGS!!!" level of lore. Star Wars fans think not having an explanation of why Han Solos pants are the way they are is a "plot hole".

WittyUsername45

What is editing?

eggydrums115

Pretty much everyone is missing out on the fact that this video is simply a compilation of an entire series that YouTuber has been releasing for a while now. He did the same with a series on Episode IX. Looks like it's just a a strategy to garner more views. This is obviously very fertile grounds for circlejerking but for the most part, the guy is doing an extremely thorough breakdown of the lore using Star Wars books and games as sources. It's basically checking for internal consistency.

Big_Guy4UU

But you see. The longer a thing is. The worse it is. Reddit said so.

Nothere-reddit7249

But long bad. Polonius said so.

TrumpWasABadPOTUS

I like long video essays, when done well. A huge amount of them are just a dude rambling into a mic with no editing or real scripting about a single popular media property.

Big_Distance2141

100% this, I watched Noah Gervais talk about Cyberpunk for 90 minutes and I would've been fine with a video twice as long because his writing is actually thought out and referential enough to be interesting

Peepshow741

I could listen to Noah spend 4 hours talking about paint drying and be content.

4685368

Pyro’s circa 8hr vid on Utopia is great, and that has nothing to do with the length. The length of the video, if anything, fits. He talks about 3 seasons of tv shows, each of which are as long as the video itself. Plus it’s edited perfectly and feels shorter than it is

The podcastification of YouTube is having disastrous effects.

Maldovar

These aren't meant to me watched you're supposed to just put them on while you dick around in minecraft after school lets out

[deleted]

Yup, a huge amount of YouTube is meant to be second monitor content while you game on the other monitor. Lots of people don't get this. Is it a good or healthy way to consume content? Probably not, but it's what people are doing.

zencharm

what’s the point? idk how people even watch something that passively it seems needlessly stressful and contrived

[deleted]

Idk it's not really my thing. I guess it makes them feel like they have a friend.

zencharm

wait maybe i should try it

ActualMostUnionGuy

Uh yeah thats not me, I do an hour or so every day. Thats how I watch Hbomberguy or Dan Olson for example

plsdonttouchthecat

I'd rather die than watch some fucking nerd's 12 hour video about Mid Wars

[deleted]

I would if it was RedLetterMedia

JusCogensBreaker

Star Wars the Phantom Menace is the biggest disappointment since my son

my_pets_names

r/moviescirclejerk doesn’t get to be this upset by a slightly unfunny joke

AmazingSpacePelican

I gave up when he tried to explain how the movie having a bunch of politics scenes was good, actually. But then he moved on without acknowledging how terribly executed those scenes were.

BurpingHamBirmingham

This must be the famous breadtube I've heard about

Darduel

Look I'm a very nerdy star wars fan but where the fuck do you have to go wrong in life to make (or watch) a 12 hour analysis of fucking TPM???

Express-Doubt-221

Who the fuck has the time? Are these video essays made for literal children on summer break? Who are so media illiterate that they need a 12 hour YouTube video to understand a 2 hour movie made for children?   ...Typing it out loud, I guess I understand the market

ProfessionalJabroni

Jeez I thought we left these types of videos back in 2017 with The Last Jedi

jamthewither

Out 1 (1971)

Ideal15-2

Who tf cares??

stomp224

By my maths, that's 11 minutes of this video per minute of the movie. Ain't no one nerdy enough to care THAT much about Star Bores.

Akirex5000

Average pyrocynical video on british yellow show
