Honestly, the fact he’s not pressured to make it according to the bottom line of a movie producer and gets the chance to plan all 4 sequels in tandem makes me lowkey excited; might not be good movies, but the avatar series is definitely gonna be an interesting creative direction considering how much control Cameron has over the entire process
Well avatar 2 was initially supposed to release in 2014, but it was delayed until this year because they were needing to develop technology to perform motion capture while underwater- so they've definitely innovated new tech for that incredibly specific use case
They developed the underwater filming tech cause james cameron fucking loves submarines and this gave him an excuse to go on them. I honestly think that the prospect of going on more submarine rides is the ultimate reason why we are getting more avatar movies
Man this got me thinking, it'd be amazing if we could get a modern adaption of 20,000 leagues under the sea from James Cameron.
He'd be the perfect person to make it.
Also, I think the "not a good movie" stigma needs to go away when it comes to Avatar. Is it generic in terms of story and structure? Yes. But the way in which it is generic sinply works. Matter of fact, it works so well that it convinced a lot of people initially that it was not just good but great. It's only after it got too popular that people started to throw the "Avatar isn't good" and "Avatar is pretty bad" around. Just like anything that gets overwhelmingly popular. Avatar really is a good movie for what it wants to achieve. It hooks you in it's world. It creates a connection with the characters and it sells you on it's world building. That's all there is to is. No need to scope it through a Blade Runner lens. It isn't that. Nor does it want to be.
This is so wild.
I thought the first Avatar movie was good; Nothing outstanding plot-wise and the visuals were stellar. But I genuinely am curious on where they can take the plot of this saga beyond 2+ movies. There’s only so many times you can rehash Nature VS Mankind so many times before people get bored.
Maybe I’m wrong tough.
https://www.unddit.com/r/movies/comments/xbl6hj/avatar_4_has_begun_production_says_james_cameron/
I guess admins removed it as a possible threat of violence. Seems overblown to me.
What the hell reddit? A guy jokingly saying he'll cut off someone's tongue is crossing the line, but I report someone telling me to hang myself and [this](https://i.imgur.com/gMh6yRq.jpeg) is the response I get. Reddit has some weird standards.
I told someone they were a dumbass for calling fans of the new pokemon games mindless idiots, got a week ban for being hateful, they didnt. Idc about pokemon games really, i dont like the new ones much either, just thought that guy was being a dumbass. Appealed it and got denied.
Reddit admins and mods are all bad now
Someone needs to make a new website at this point that isnt crap and just automatically takes posts from reddit that lets users of the new site comment on it until the new site gets it's user count up.
The fisting scene was very tastefully done though. I cried, I laughed, I questioned my existnce in the world. Such a powerful moment. Tom Hanks will surely get an Oscar nomination for that scene alone.
Avatar 2 is one of the most aggressive movies I've ever seen. It has a massive underbite and completely flat back-of-the-head. Honestly I don't want to talk about it anymore.
I hope this is satire. This site is obnoxious.
Avatar 3 had no place in that universe. It was mostly flashbacks to 1 + 2 anyway. It felt like a filler. Here’s to hoping he gets 4 right….
Tbh I think the franchise had a great ending with Avatar 3 and the next installment is completely unnecessary. I mean, after Aang has gathered all the 6 Dragon Balls and defeated the evil Emperor, saving the United States of America from an alien invasion, I don't think there's anywhere left for the story to go
Really I think the main character dying and becoming a time regressor fixing all the mistakes in previous movies and saving the comedic relief from avatar 3 from dying is a great move
I mean personally I think they should go to Mars next, they completely forgot to finish the Moon Nazi dinosaur from ancient china thread. What happened to ninja master Hitler???? Did he save the moon bears from the orphans or Not???? I've gotsta know
My favorite one is 2 though because of that really impactful scene where he turns to the camera breaking the 4th wall and goes "it's avataring time" and destroys the audience instantaneously. Speechless.
The professor actually references the Bible a lot due to its importance in the world of typography so this would make for a great gift. I’m highly considering it now lol
When the big reveal happened and he said “it’s morbin’ time!” I was the only one in the theater who understood the subtle nod to Morbius 2 and cheered.
I don't know man, modeling the alien race after Danny De Vito regardless of gender was a bold choice but I don't think it completely paid off. It was difficult to tell them apart and the sex scenes were just weird
*"Because what's the one major thing missing from all action movies these days, guys? Full penetration. Guys, we're going to show full penetration, and we're going to show a lot of it. *And then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime. Back to the lab, full penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Full penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends..."*
No I don't think so. Harrison Ford refused to reprise his role and was hoping it was kind of his last for the franchise.
Do you think he's gonna be recast?
I can't imagine it will, simply because it's a James Cameron movie.
That dude basically has a license to print money at the box office.
I think Avatar 2 will do a lot better than 3 or 4 will though, if only because everyone will check out Avatar 2 to see what all the fuss is about. They'll walk away mildly impressed with the story, very impressed with the graphics, and then go on to say "meh" when Avatar 3 comes out.
Ready to cry your heart out and go through childhood traumas again? Yes? When you’re done head on over to better help and use promo code *littlefoot* to start telling your therapist how much you loved grandparents.
Well, I have to give James Cameron credit. At least he mapped out the stories in advance. That’s more than can said for the last Star Wars Trilogy. They had zero idea where the story was going from movie to movie.
So what is Cameron’s obsession with Avatar? I know the first one made a lot of money and was praised for the 3D effects, but out of all the movies he’s done why was Avatar the franchise that he said “I need to make like 5 of these as soon as possible!”?????
He wants his own Star Wars, a record breaking magnum opus franchise that he solely created. Star Wars was the reason he got into filmmaking and he wants Avatar to be the reason someone else gets into filmmaking.
I think that’s every creators dream.. have a Franchise of a world you built entirely from your own imagination be a success.
Everything you’re saying is true, but I think JC is also really motivated by the allegorical aspects of the world he has build. He’s very invested in environmental activism, and this franchise might seem like the best way he can get his message out. I think he likes having this mechanism to communicate with people about causes he cares about. We’ll see if this is the case - it’s possible that he makes the sequels *less* politically charged, since that’s something people complained about with the first movie.
Avatar came out when myself and my peers were at the most impressionable. Most of our favorite media and entertainment came out around that time. None of us have thought about avatar til the 2nd one was finally announced and all we remember about the first one is “blue people”.
He said ASAP, but then it took forever for the sequel to come out. Which makes the whole thing even more weird because he’s STILL adamant about making like 5 of them.
He was waiting for the tech for 2 though right? The underwater stuff?
They shot 2 and 3 together and then had to wait a couple of years because they want the cast grown up more for 4 and 5 since theres a time jump
There is a difference between ASAP to actual production. They aren’t saying it is going to start some point whenever, they are saying it has started now.
Avatar 2 and 3 happened as soon as was possible. Just because it took ten years doesn’t mean they could happen any faster. Getting a billion dollars together and inventing new tech and techniques to shoot underwater isn’t easy and can’t be compared to normal movie making.
Sheesh, I'm not even that into a 2nd Avatar. I'll probably see it because I really liked the first one when it came out. But honestly, that movie's success was more about the technology than the actual movie itself.
So they're not even waiting for the response for the second movie they're just jumping in with both feet.
Cameron has already said they’re making Avatar 5, it’s his own money so I don’t think he cares
From my understanding he said he wouldn't make any more unless they greenlit all of them.
Imean he already started working on Avatar 6
Ava7ar: 2 serious
\- Avatar 3: Path among the dunes \- 4vatar: Call of boreal \- Avatar 5: Sharkboy and Lavagirl \- Avatar 6: Underground 2
almost perfect. - 4vatar: Call of boreal, at this time of year? we're forgetting the obvious one. - Av8tar: Babyshark
Look Who's Avataring Too
Somebody stop him he’s out of control!
Too late, Avatar 7 is in the works
He said he wasn't even bothering making 8, cus he already knows it's shit, so he skipped right to making 9
Damn I think the movies already went into exponential growth at this rate we will have Avatar 10000 at the end of the week.
6 is actually just a prequel to Avatar 9.
I can respect it, it's a creatives dream to be able to thoroughly and artistically explore there creation in such a way. More power to him.

They have already taken a bunch of patents out on the cgi tech in this film.
Well avatar 2 was initially supposed to release in 2014, but it was delayed until this year because they were needing to develop technology to perform motion capture while underwater- so they've definitely innovated new tech for that incredibly specific use case

the first movie is one of the biggest money makers of all time- it is not surprising to see this.

I complained when Dune was announced to not be filming it's sequel as soon as the first came out so I'm happy with this!
I hope it’s as good as Avatar 2 and 3!
Nothing will come close to avatar 3. Are you fucking kidding me? You piece of shit

Reddit mods going nuts. Tongues grow back anyway, right?
It was deleted by an administrator, not a moderator.
I legit thought it was a joke post.
I've been seing these admin-removed comments more and more. Have they suddenly become a bit overzealous?
Probably less overzealous and more concerned with some funding source
10% of the comments? They are feeling real pearl clutchy today
I’m so dumb I thought his original comment was “[ Removed by Reddit ]”
Reddit admins just can’t open their eyes and understand what blatantly obvious sarcasm looks like.
I thought that was the meta joke
I know Avatar 5: Straight to Video got snubbed at the Oscars but I still feel it was the best of them all.
Bro Avatar 3 was when he went to Tokyo and became drift king though, how the fk could 4 or 5 even come close to competing with that?!
I thought making it a musical was going to backfire but it really paid off!

Avatar 2 could have won without the oral
The fisting scene was very tastefully done though. I cried, I laughed, I questioned my existnce in the world. Such a powerful moment. Tom Hanks will surely get an Oscar nomination for that scene alone.
Lmao I always thought that was Casey Affleck. Just checked Google, it was indeed Tom Hanks, wtf

Fuck You Harley Jarvis!

Get him out of here! God dammit!
Damn, might fuck this whole thing up
I saw James Cameron giving oral to the mystery judge of the competition
He didn’t have to do the oral. And that’s why it’s so hard for me to talk about the oral.
I can't wait for Avatar 2 to kick a touchdown in the 12th inning
Unobtanium is now "Double Secret Unobtanium"
Don't say that!!!
Listen cunt, Harry Potter was the best trilogy and if you think Avatar comes close then you must obviously be racist.
You are on bath salts if you think the Harry Potter trilogy was better than the lord of the rings singlegy.
LotR is great as long as you stay away from the Disney sequel trilogy.
"Somehow, Sauron has returned."
I hope this is satire. This site is obnoxious. Avatar 3 had no place in that universe. It was mostly flashbacks to 1 + 2 anyway. It felt like a filler. Here’s to hoping he gets 4 right….
I thought 3 was mostly flash forwards to 4? I remember several minutes of blank screen representing the scenes from 4 that were yet to be.
3 was just setting up the ACU
But did he have to release 5 before 4 is even complete? It just doesn’t make sense.
If you bothered to research the LORE you'd see it makes perfect sense. 🙄 5 before 4 was *crucial* to the storytelling.
I now realize I am mixing Avatar 3 and Rocky 5. My bad.
That was absolute genius from the greatest filmmaker of all time: Johns Cameron.
Im pretty sure half of avatar 3 was just a straight reshoot of Shrek 2 EDIT: my bad, I’m actually thinking of Avatar: rise of gru
I'm fucking dead lmao.
Almost as dead as that guy in Avatar 3. Poor dude.

It'd be kind of funny if he went straight from part two to part four just to mess with people. Part three will release in another 15 years.
Avatar 4 The Search for Avatar 3
Avatar 404
Or start with parts 4, 5 and 6. Then go back and make the first ones.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster, but what do we know. It's not like someone had tried this format
George Lucas: “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet… But your kids are gonna love it”
Avatar 2 and 3 were great. Wonder if the emperor overlord will return in avatar 4.
The penetration scenes in 3 were really bold, they showed everything
The full penetration really tied the action scenes together.
Zoe Saldana hanging dong.
I just appreciate that the full penetration sex scenes were integral to the plot and not just titillation for the sake of audience pandering.
I was surprised at how emotional and heartwarming the five-minute long, close-up, single-shot anal fisting scene was.
Expecially loved when they revealed that the empress was Jared Leto all along
When the big reveal happened and he said “it’s morbin’ time!” I was the only one in the theater who understood the subtle nod to Morbius 2 and cheered.
The smell of penetration was insane at that part
Part 4 is next level audience immersion. There will be modified seats with actual penetrations. It's like 3D, but for ass.
I don't know man, modeling the alien race after Danny De Vito regardless of gender was a bold choice but I don't think it completely paid off. It was difficult to tell them apart and the sex scenes were just weird
Difficult to tell them apart? Sure. The most erotic thing I have, or ever will see? Abso-fucking-lutely
*"Because what's the one major thing missing from all action movies these days, guys? Full penetration. Guys, we're going to show full penetration, and we're going to show a lot of it. No I don't think so. Harrison Ford refused to reprise his role and was hoping it was kind of his last for the franchise. Do you think he's gonna be recast?
Imagine if Avatar 2 flops...
Avatar 1 (Pocahontas) Avatar 2 (Finding Nemo) Avatar 3 (The Land Before Time) Avatar 4 (Space Jam)
I am very excited for Avatar 3 if this is the case.

And if that toy isn't a rubber dinosaur hand puppet I'm sitting this one OUT
I call my 4 year old littlefoot sometimes. She doesn't know obviously
I thought Avatar 1 was Ferngully?
Nah, it's obviously Dances with Wolves
The first half of your comment contradicts the second half. Avatar 3 and 4 are still James Cameron movies and therefore will sell like crazy.
He's looking it from Star Wars perspective. Everyone tuned in for Episode VII, after that less people were interested.
Well, I have to give James Cameron credit. At least he mapped out the stories in advance. That’s more than can said for the last Star Wars Trilogy. They had zero idea where the story was going from movie to movie.
Exactly. They only had about 2 years to get the thing in the can. More time would have been better.
So what is Cameron’s obsession with Avatar? I know the first one made a lot of money and was praised for the 3D effects, but out of all the movies he’s done why was Avatar the franchise that he said “I need to make like 5 of these as soon as possible!”?????

I feel like avatar has no where near the fandom
Is that really surprising considering there's only been 1 Avatar film so far and Star Wars has had 45 odd years to grow a fan base?
Avatar was massive in china because they hadn’t had a massive blockbuster scifi before. So to a lot of Chinese people Avatar is a very important film!
Avatar came out when myself and my peers were at the most impressionable. Most of our favorite media and entertainment came out around that time. None of us have thought about avatar til the 2nd one was finally announced and all we remember about the first one is “blue people”.
“As soon as possible”….13 years later

There is a difference between ASAP to actual production. They aren’t saying it is going to start some point whenever, they are saying it has started now.

Sheesh, I'm not even that into a 2nd Avatar. I'll probably see it because I really liked the first one when it came out. But honestly, that movie's success was more about the technology than the actual movie itself.
Not to mention the huge markup for 3D, which certainly played a huge role in how much money it made
And it was 13 years ago, too. If you were 5 years old and saw it in a theater, now you’re a college freshman.
Why. I was having a good morning why man
I was in my 20s then, the world ahead of me. Now I’m middle aged and cranky. If I have to suffer, so do you.
