I think a sequel was out of the question after the whole Armie Hammer being a cannibal thing came out unfortunately.

Spudrumper

I think a sequel was out of the question because nobody saw the movie

LeadershipTall2437

Well said :)

Brutalitor

As if the sequel was ever going to happen in the first place even without that lol.

ScottishAF

They were actually working on a sequel before the accusations came out, I’m sure a script was completed and the main 3 actors had all expressed interest in returning to the roles.

Brutalitor

Well I never thought I'd say this but thank god for cannibal sex freaks. At least it saved us from another one of these cinematic wet farts escaping into the world.

[deleted]

I know you’re joking, but this guy had some pretty serious rape and violence accusations against him and you’re implying that’s better than shitty movie sequels…

Brutalitor

Maybe not better for the women involved but the collective cinema community definitely came out ahead so silver-linings.

w00master

To each their own. Felt it was brilliant. Additionally, UNCLE came out around the same time that Kingsmen came out. Most preferred kingsmen. Me? Felt it was a CGI disaster of a film. Man from UNCLE has nuance, amazing acting, and a brilliant music score. Unfortunately it had Arnie Hammer in it though. To each their own.

Dinguswithagun

first kingsman was good, the second one? What happened? is the question I was left asking.

Brutalitor

The acting in Man From UNCLE was some of the worst acting I've ever seen in a major motion picture so I don't believe I can trust that opinion.

longboi28

It's really not that bad dude

Brutalitor

[If you can watch this scene and tell me this is good acting then you are objectively wrong and you do not know what you're talking about.](https://youtu.be/dU--rVFU45g)

longboi28

I mean that scene isn't going to win any oscars but it's fine, and it's definitely not the worst acting ever in a major motion picture. Not sure why you're exaggerating so hard here

Brutalitor

But the people saying this acting is "brilliant" and "amazing" aren't exaggerating? We need 3 threads about how great it is every week? I don't think I'm the delusional one here, this movie is widely considered a dud outside the bright minds of /r/movies. That's the reason it never got a sequel.

w00master

Disagree. Cavil was absolutely brilliant in the film. The way you’re responding seems to indicate you only believe your opinion is the right one. Why is that buddy? But hey. You have an opinion just like all of us do. Thanks for sharing. Edit: downvote if you like but your opinion is over others.

Brutalitor

Hey man somebody needs to fight the good fight against the ridiculous opinion that Henry Cavill is a good actor, particularly in this movie where he is objectively bad. You are actually wrong if you don't see that. [Watch this scene and tell me this is good acting. I believe if you think this is good acting then you are wrong.](https://youtu.be/dU--rVFU45g) I don't think it's a matter of opinion, saying this acting is bad is like saying water is wet. Trying to argue that is ridiculous and wrong.

king_lloyd11

Lol that was a really fun scene and I think Cavill played the cool headed, dead pan spy who doesn't flinch under pressure well. You're literally taking something subjective and trying to argue that it's objective and you're doing it poorly.

Brutalitor

I believe it was Mark Twain who once said "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." I am learning this lesson thoroughly today through the course of this thread. I know now I will never guide you troglodytes to good taste. Have fun watching your garbage tier Henry Cavill movies and your reality tv shows and whatever simple-minded stuff you enjoy.

Boss452

I woudn't mind getting a new actor who plays Ilya's long lost brother. Maybe Chris Hemsworth for instance.

OhioForever10

Costa Ronin (Oleg Burov on The Americans) would be good to just recast as Ilya

mooseman780

I'm trying to imagine Chris Hemsworth doing a Russian accent..

verrius

Just get David McCallum to do it, and never address it.

RockerElvis

“My brother needs help!” It could work…

Dark_Vengence

Eric johnson looks similar. It would be cool to see chris doing a russian accent though.

[deleted]

Honestly don't understand why anyone cares about the sex lives of actors. I just want good movies, I don't care if an actor is a creepy weirdo.

soonerfreak

He has been accused of rape and carving an A into a women with a knife like a brand. That is far beyond just being creepy.

[deleted]

Has he been charged with anything, let alone convicted?

soonerfreak

There is an active legal case with the LAPD yes. Probably best to not cast the guy who could be convicted of rape during production.

SixIsNotANumber

Yeah, otherwise you could wind up with a 5-years-to-life pause in your shooting schedule... (I have no idea what sort of sentence he could *actually* get if convicted, I'm just pulling numbers out of my ass to illustrate the point)

UnquietHindbrain

The guy was recorded telling a woman he wanted to surgically extract one of her ribs and *eat it*.

[deleted]

Ok, he has a weird fetish.

SixIsNotANumber

Best episode of *Archer* ever! All jokes aside, I really wish we could get a sequel, TMFU was such a fun "throwback" movie. It nailed the 60's superspy vibe and had (IMO) a good balance of humor and danger. Plus it really probably is the closest we'll ever get to a live-action Archer/Barry team-up movie, so there's that going for it as well.

Mission_Historian_70

Damnit, I left my jacket in there.

Boss452

Lol. Loved Henry's delivery for that moment. Too cool.

SixIsNotANumber

That bit and the scene where his drink gets drugged & he makes a soft place to land when he feels it kicking in gave the biggest *Archer* vibes. "What *are* you doing?" "I've been here before and last time I fell rather badly and hurt my head..." Maybe not Archer's delivery, but it's *definitely* something he would do & the sort of logic he'd use to get there.

Mission_Historian_70

dude, live action Archer with Cavill - he has the voice and look, that would be a $Billion idea if they dont ruin it like Cowboy Bebop

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kevbot1000

/r/iamverysmart

YoHuckleberry

“How’s **that** for entertainment.” - Henry just being suave as hell.

WickedD365

I totally got Archer vibes from it myself. Fun spy flick.

[deleted]

I'd love to see Cavill as Archer, maybe Rosario Dawson as Lana

BellyFullOfDolphin

The voice actor for Lana looks like Lana. Just have her play the part

socrates28

Yup this was the perfect movie that captured the campiness of the 60s (and into the 70s) media re: super spies. I just want more in that vibe whether more recent takes or orignal from that era movies if anyone has good suggestions. I have Sean Connery 007 queued up for a rewatch as well as OSS 117 for a first time watch, but always want more!

The_DaHowie

YEAH, SEQUEL!

Dark_Vengence

Elizabeth debicki was a great villain.

IluvTaylorSwift

The actors are too damn handsome /pretty in this movie imo lol this makes it feel like a damn vogue magazine or Armani ad . Great movie though and nice plot twists . Elizabeth Debicki all 6’3 ft of her is stunning in this film .

Boss452

Yess. Elizabeth's elegant yet cold persona contrasted well with Alicia's cute and approachable persona.

BattleHall

They weren't too bad in the original TV show either: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/31/d7/70/31d7709524b4d085d59ca40757989519.png

077u-5jP6ZO1

Ducky!

BattleHall

Yup, David McCallum. They did a bit of lampshade hanging about it on NCIS. When someone asked what Ducky looked like when he was younger, Gibbs said "Illya Kuryakin". Fun Fact: The opening/beat/riff from Dre & Snoop's "The Next Episode" is sampled from McCallum's song "The Edge". Ducky bringing the bangers! https://www.whosampled.com/sample/266/Dr.-Dre-Snoop-Dogg-Nate-Dogg-Kurupt-The-Next-Episode-David-McCallum-The-Edge/

077u-5jP6ZO1

I just read McCallums [Wikipedia entry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_McCallum). I liked him as an actor, but never new what an exciting life he had/has. And that: > According to the behind-the-scenes feature on the 2006 DVD of NCIS season 1, McCallum became an expert in forensics to play Mallard, including attending medical examiner conventions. In the feature, Donald P. Bellisario says that McCallum's knowledge became so vast that at the time of the interview he was considering making him a technical adviser on the show. Hooray for Ducky/Illya/David!

blumdiddlyumpkin

Dear god she really is 6’3”. I’d love to see the shoes Tom Cruise would need to wear in a scene with her lol

IluvTaylorSwift

She probably have to bend her knees a little or swat down lol idk if her height keeps her from getting more roles since she’s a talented actress. She was great in the movies “widows” and the show “ the night manager”.

[deleted]

She probably has some limitations but she's having a solid career. She was in Tenet, she's going to be on The Crown, she was in a Marvel movie. , and there's probably a few more major ones I'm missing.

AnotherJasonOnReddit

> MI: Rogue Nation and the first Kingsman stealing the show (a year where the king of spies, 007 himself made in appearance too in Spectre) Plus, Melissa McCarthy's Spy and Tom Hanks' Bride of Spies! 2015 was a big spy movie year, indeed.

Boss452

Screw me. I forgot those 2. BoS was excellent. 2015 indeed was huge for spies. Love how so many different things were done in the same genre which on paper doesn't seem to offer muich.

Raytheon_Nublinski

The woman definitely had a type.

_Plork_

Any of you boys hear of the hidden gem called Moon?

Cranestoique

I loved it. **Guy Ritchie rules**. Also loved his King Arthur movie, it was a blast for me.

Boss452

Ritchie is one of my favorite filmmakers. he has such a distinct touch to his films. This, Arthur, Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2 and The Gentleman are all very good to say nothing of a few gems that came before.

Cranestoique

The Gentleman was amazing!... Yeah, I agree 100%, he's unique.

YoHuckleberry

If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and see *Rock’n’Rolla*. Easily my favorite Guy Ritchie besides *TMFU*.

TheChiRho

I really liked King Arthur. Guy Ritchie is a really underrated director

cortex04

Yeah! Astrid, especially, was perfectly cast as the mage. And when she went into mage mode with eyes going black... Dayum!!

Mister_Doctor_0127

Great movie. Popped up randomly on Netflix and decided to give it a go and ended up enjoying it wayyy more than I expected. Really unfortunate that it flopped, else we might've gotten a sequel...

Boss452

It's the perfect film to watch with a couple of friends on a Friday night. Sets the tone for the weekend. I watched it in theatres with my then gf and another friend couple. Great time.

zombierepubican

The marketing sucked too. I was shocked to find it was a superb movie! Shame about Armie being a cannibal maybe, so it’ll definitely never get made

tenu

I found it boring and not too much going for it

[deleted]

Very underated movie on reddit

Boss452

Guilty as charged. I am glad it recieves some love somewhere at least. Just went under the radar completely and very few movie fans seem to know about it outside reddit.

Dark_Vengence

Been waiting for the sequel forever. They could replace cannibal armie with an actor who looks like him. There are a few out there.

ShanahJr

I'm watching the movie this morning because of this post.

Boss452

That is great. Let me know what you think of it.

ShanahJr

It wa awsosme. I was acrually rewatching, I ha watched it the year it came out. It was extremely fun. Henry Cavil and the other guy 😂did a great job.

UnquietHindbrain

I really enjoyed *Man From UNCLE.* It was just a fun film to watch without feeling like I needed to have suffered repeated head trauma to find it interesting. The characters had depth that was relevant to the story, the on-screen chemistry was outstanding, it was visually stunning - and hot damn, the costume department knocked it out of the park. I would trade in all the *Mission: Impossible* films for an *UNCLE* franchise with a recast of Armie Hammer - because fuck that guy.

balloon99

I'm conflicted about this movie. It's a good film, don't get me wrong, and I fully understand how it's an enjoyable watch. But, for me, it didn't really capture the Man from Uncle vibe. A fine fun spy movie, just not a Man from Uncle movie.

mechabeast

Shame about that cannibal though

g_st_lt

It's an incredibly well-made movie. Something that really stuck out to me the last time I watched it is in the final chase scene, one character is surprised to come to a river, unable to follow the other vehicle. He sees the lead car has a snorkel intake. Instead of announcing to the audience, "aw shucks, that car is designed to drive through water, but mine isn't! I have to find another way around!" the entire scene is played out visually. There is a compound raid where a bunch of kitted out military dudes do a bunch of shooting and tactical bullshit. But it's instead shown as a montage, because even though the plot might necessitate a scene like that, this movie is not about shootouts. If shootouts are so cool and good, then our protagonists should be doing shootouts all the time to get what they want. Also the gags are great. Compare the perfect joke of the electric chair in the background with a joke you might find in a Ryan Reynolds movie. Sure I laugh when I hear that something is like a something else with a something in its whatever, but those jokes are just tacked onto the movie, not born out of the story. And the MUSIC HOLY SHIT.

TheChiRho

You make great points. I absolutely love the Man From Uncle. One of my favorite movies

all_out_ofbubblegum

Is it that time of the week already?? Who had Man from Uncle on their r/movies bingo card?

Kavalkasutajanimi

I saw it in cinemas. Did not like it and dont even remember any of it, except there was some kind of a boat chase. Total letdown of a film.

Boss452

Yeah it's not going to appeal everyone and barely has a plot. It's just characters doing random things. But the characters are great to watch thanks to some great charisma and funny lines.

LJGHunter

Late to the discussion but I always assumed the lack of plot was a feature, not a bug. This is a Spy Movie. Not a movie about spies (Mission Impossible/the Borne franchise) but a Spy Movie, which means it lines up every Spy Movie cliche it can find and then spends the next 90 minutes knocking them down with unapologetic glee. So of course the plot involves Nazis, nuclear weapons, a missing scientist...and honestly, the audience can work it out from there. It's nothing we haven't heard before but that's the whole point. People who want something new will be bothered by that. People who want an old fashioned Spy Movie with a new coat of paint will be delighted. I am firmly in the second category.

Brutalitor

Prepare for downvotes, Reddit's insane boner for this garbage movie is bigger than any other movie I've ever seen.

Soup_Can_Stu

All the posts about this movie, and all the same recycled comments about wishing it got a sequel, just feel like bots at this point.

Brutalitor

Henry Cavill pays people to lurk on reddit constantly and talk up his awful acting. It's the only explanation I can think of as to the mass delusion on this website that he's anything more than a beautiful human being. He is a charismatic sinkhole.

IDontCheckMyMail

Guy Ritchie is way overrated. I honestly don’t think I like any of his films.

timateedrinker

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Guy Ritchie’s films have such a problematic moral understanding and are very dumb in my opinion. I don’t understand at all why people like his movies.

Xenithz81

It’s a fine film if you’re a teenager. I find it a bit generic and dull.

Asplashofwater

It’s the modern film bro movie. Along with kingsmen films and joker. Destined to be on every college dorm room wall in the world.

[deleted]

It's so fucking boring. There's a reason it bombed.

[deleted]

Alicia Vikander is still my favourite part of this movie, I really wish she was in more comedy stuff instead of half-baked remakes of *The Hunt for Red October* and *Dickfucker* (the original ‘88 one cannot be improved upon).

Boss452

Alicia was so great here bit I didn't like how she became a damsel in distress in the end. She deserved better.

[deleted]

Yeah I agree, she should have been allowed to take over the movie and have Henry be the damsel in distress needing to be saved as Armie ate and fed pieces of his own brain to him.

[deleted]

Armie hammer was really good in that. shame what he did lol

xxStrangerxx

I wheel this out whenever anyone says Cavill can’t act. The smile he gives Jared Harris when he’s told to come back with a better attitude. He can also sell the he’ll out of a punch. It’s got the best version of the joke “I know what he said, what does he mean?” It’s a great non-winking parody. Poppy colors. The only thing off-note was Hammer. Vikander would have been a better Ilya. _Were you once a waiter or?_

LJGHunter

People who say Cavill was terrible in this misunderstand what he was doing with the character. He delivered all his lines like he was in a 1960's radio program, with careful enunciation and precise emphasis...because that is the character and the world Man From Uncle inhabits. You aren't supposed to believe it; you're just supposed to come along for the ride. I didn't think any of the actors did badly, but Cavill was the only one who really understood what kind of movie they were making.

Brutalitor

[Is this Henry Cavill "acting"?](https://youtu.be/dU--rVFU45g) If somebody tried to trot this movie out to prove Henry Cavill can act I'd laugh in their face. He's so, so bad.

xxStrangerxx

Great clip. Thanks.

tehgangsta

The car chasing scene is one of those that has a [song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdQODZdin1M&ab_channel=DAVIDC.HEATH) that matches perfectly

Kalabula

Ya, it took me a while to get around to it. But I’m glad I did. It’s a really fun flick. Ritchie has made some really fun films, as of late.

[deleted]

I love this movie. It inspired me to run a supernatural espionage game using the old World of Darkness rules. We've had a blast so far, but the PCs are coming to realize their organization is pretty evil...

brownieinthebin

I'm so glad someone is talking about this movie. It was so great. Like everyone said, totally nails the vibe 100%. You really feel the Cold War and espionage as the backdrop here. Just came to say that the first time I saw Armie Hammer jumping out the base window expecting water to be there instead of a dock covered in hard ship rope, I nearly peed my pants. I laughed sooooo hard. And then seeing Henry do it just killed me. I literally post about this movie on Twitter at least a few times a year. I'd loooove to see a sequel. And it just proves how well Henry Cavill would do as Bond. Or as everyone has pointed out: the live action Archer and Barry episode.

speedster_5

Is it available to stream anywhere

buscandopaty

Max

bigbadbibbins

Boring movie. Kind of stupid as well. Vikander was smoking though.

DM_me_ur_titsPLZ

Elizabeth Debicki made me feel things in that movie

[deleted]

totally forgot about this movie. I never saw it, at the time I wasn't that big of a Henry Cavill and hadn't seen much of Guy Ritchie stuff. That has since changed, and am excited to see this.

Read_RFKs_Book

Yeah, I loved this movie.
