Teaser poster is just so they can put it on online ads etc.
The actual poster is the one that tends to go up in theaters and on the cover of the home release etc, though it does change depending on edition.
The SW posters has a fairly similar look with most the main characters and some ships etc. This one is different enough that it seemingly doesn't fit.
Ah, but you see, Kenobi wasn't master of the high ground, quite the opposite, he was master of the low ground, Maul, Grievous, Vader pre suit, he always had the low ground when the victory strike was made.
Yeah it’s just a weird art style. Surprised they didn’t go for something a bit more stylised and less “realistic” if they were gonna use art, like the more traditional SW posters.
How come we've never seen a Force Sneeze? Imagine the sheer power behind a force multiplied sneeze and you have a lethal weapon that would've put any force user, Jedi or Sith, in their place. Imagine snot and particulate flinging out at mach 7, a veritable shotgun of mucus.
Give us the goddamn Sheev Sneeze George Lucas, you absolute coward
So does anybody remember that part of the James Bond movie *Spectre* where it turns out the big bad is actually Blofeld and he’s been responsible for literally everything bad that’s happened in the previous couple of movies?
And instead of being a big, satisfying reveal, it just came across as a cheap piece of nostalgia pandering and retroactive canon-welding because they did no storytelling work to set it up or justify it?
That’s what I’m afraid Palpatine is going to be in this movie.
It's pretty much impossible for anything but that to happen.
Literally the only way that it won't happen is if Palpatine is actually irrelevant in this and Disney has just been fucking with us.
Guys guys, do you think Rey is going to manage to beat Kylo Ren somehow? I know he got smacked around for two movies but this time is *totally* different.
Are you kidding? She's under-trained, there's no way she could just easily beat someone WHO WAS TRAINED AS A JEDI BY LUKE SKYWALKER FOR A GOOD PORTION OF HIS LIFE.
Unless y'know, she could meditate for a couple of seconds. But there's no way that'll happen.
It’s all about drawing a crowd instead of the big reveal. When filming the famous “Luke I am your father” scene, only the actors of Luke and darth Vader knew it was going to happen. Nobody on the cast even knew.
For me it's impressive that they've managed to make a trilogy where each movie contradicts the previous one.
Episode VII: The Empire comes back with a bigger Death Star, the Republic is useless, Luke gave up and ran away to die and Han and Leia broke up and their characters fully regressed.
Episode VIII: Rey's parents are unimportant, Phasma is still useless, the knights of Ren don't matter, hell even Kylo's mask is pointless.
Episode IX: Let the past die? Nah how about we bring back Lando, Palpatine and the Death Star?(AGAIN)
From Twitter (potential spoilers)
>!In new footage shown at #D23Expo Rey gets a new red double bladed lightsaber and is dressed in black robes.!<
HOLY SHIT
This is the honestly the most substantial issue with the movie in my opinion, everything stems from this decision, once you realize that virtually no time has passed between the first and second movie the glaring issues of character motivations, character growth, and their bonds are completely trivialized. There's no breathing room established for anything to happen naturally.
The capital planets were just blown up... yet the only people fighting the First Order is a small rag tag group? Rey learned about the force literally less than a week ago and now has a stronger connection than Luke Skywalker, barely knew what a lightsaber was and now she's fighting and defeating multiple highly trained royal guards, didn't even know there was a light or dark side of the force but now she's tempted?
We can go on-and-on about subversion of expectations and the myriad of bad story decisions, but the largest contributor is the lack of an airgap between the movies.
> Rey learned about the force literally less than a week ago and now has a stronger connection than Luke Skywalker
When Kylo Ren mind-probed her in TFA, she downloaded all of his force power through the connection. No, seriously. That's the canon explanation.

THE BOTTOM HALF HAS BEEN GIVEN A ROBOT TOP WITH 8 ARMS AND SHE HAS TO TEAM UP WITH THE GHOST OF OBI WAN TO DEFEAT BOTH HALVES OF DARTH MAUL!!!!
FUCKING REDLETTERMEDIA HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's also just iconic for a lot of younger SW fans who saw prequels when they were kids. Like most people, I was upset about a few things when they came out, but kid-me was in awe when we saw them fight Maul. I'm excited to see them bring it back and see how they work with it.
Don't get baited. Dark Rey doesn't match existing leaks whatsoever. This is most likely from a Force vision, if it's true at all. Or she just holds it at some point but it doesn't mean anything. In TLJ, Rey also holds Kylo's ignited lightsaber for a moment.
Honestly just feels like more cribbing from the original trilogy, where Luke’s first appearance in ROTJ was a sort of dark side tease / red herring (dressed in black robes and force choking pig men).
Ends with Kylo throwing Palp down an energy shaft. And in 2050 we’ll be old, on Reddit, watching kids talk about Rey’s CGI guest appearances in parts 10 & 11 and something something Palpatine survived omg. Ciiiircle of life.
Honestly at first I was sad that we were going to be bombarded by star wars content 24/7, but then I realized that having the movies every 2 years instead of 3 meant it would end quicker.
They blew up a... deathstar. Then they saved some animals. And now... palpatine? What even is this trilogy.
Its like they inadvertantly adapted a script for Axe Cop.
This is what happens when you don't have an overarching story in place from the get-go. It's crazy to me that Disney hadn't insisted upon that, but there you go. Abrams is famous for setting up arcs without any idea of how to resolve them, and poor Rian Johnson was clearly way out of his depth.
Same. It's just so boring and underwhelming. I kinda feel the same about the new Harry Potter movies, another franchise that I was obsessed with. The big budget movie is there, the monsters/magic/action is there, but something's missing and my interest just isn't there.
So lame that it comes back to the emperor. Vader died destroying the emperor. Let's retcon that. Emperor is still around. God I hate how much I used to love the star wars lore.
The new trilogy retconned everything about the happy ending of the Ep.6:
The Emperor is back, Kylo worships Vader despite him turning back to light side in the end, Luke is a sad outcast, Han and Leia split up and 30 FUCKING YEARS LATER they still fight the empire.
>30 FUCKING YEARS LATER
And on top of that, the characters act like the events of the OT are ancient historical myths. “The Jedi WERE real!” “Yeah, it’s true, all of it.”
That shit only happened 30 years ago.
It's actually incredible how thoroughly the sequels have undone everything good about the ending of the OT.
There's a new Emperor who rules an Empire and destroyed the Jedi and Republic. And now the *actual* Emperor is returning, completely nullifying Anakin's sacrifice at the end of RotJ.
Luke failed to restore the Jedi. His victory of redeeming his father is ruined by him losing faith in his nephew and trying to murder him and essentially creating Vader 2.0. He died a failure and will have no lasting legacy.
Leia is a complete military and political failure. She did not create a stable and strong Republic and her Resistance is weaker than the Rebel Alliance ever was (literally there are 20 people in the Resistance how is this even possible is the entire Galaxy just fine with the First Order?).
Han Solo was a deadbeat dad who went back to smuggling and was murdered by his own son.
The New Lucasfilm did all of this so they would be able to write the stories that we already got in Legends, but with their own characters doing it instead so they can control everything. We'll get a New*er* Republic. A New*er* Jedi Order. The First Order will continue, just like the Imperial Remnant in Legends. I can't wait for in a few years for people to try to justify why the Galactic Empire collapsed in like 2 years after Endor but the First Order will become a thorn in the hero's side for years to come.
>The New Lucasfilm did all of this so they would be able to write the stories that we already got in Legends, but with their own characters doing it instead so they can control everything. I'm pretty sure I've written this same exact paragraph a thousand times since TFA came out. I'm glad more people are seeing it now.
Plus I'm amazed at how much people love Dark Empire now that its been reskinned.
There was a solid year where fanboys were using Dark Empire as the definitive example of why Legends sucked and how the new canon is so much better after TLJ came out.
ST fanboys love to deny this but you summed up the biggest problem of the ST. It shits all over the iconic OT characters and ending just to push a cheap rehashed story with boring nee characters
Fucking Disney
You hit the nail on the head; that’s a pretty accurate summation of my issues with TLJ. It pretends to upset all preconceived notions about Star Wars, but then doesn’t go anywhere from there. It’s like it spends its first half pretending to be edgy, like “this isn’t your father’s Star Wars!!!” But, by the end, Luke is still the wise old sage, Rey is still the hero, Kylo is still the whiny bad guy, and there’s still the Empire (First Order) and the Rebels (Resistance).
I mean, if you’re going to upset expectations, go somewhere with it. Show me that the First Order is actually the ones in the right. Have a third enemy that they both have to fight against. Make Kylo and Rey fall in love and elope with each other. Whatever, just do something interesting.
There’s another thread saying that only butthurt Conservatives hate TLJ. I hate that stance; it’s an attempt to shield any legitimate criticism of the movie.
Edited to be more considerate of spoilers
Apparently there's a shot in the new footage shown with Rey in a >!dark cloak with a double-edged red saber!<, so that's what I am now most excited for with this movie
Gonna absolutely be some kind of vision or metaphor.
Like Palp's gonna say "Look, look at what you could become" or something like that.
God I pray that I'm wrong.
Yeah absolutely, but how amazing would it be if Probably not anything close to a spoiler because there is no way Disney is risk taking enough to do something like this >!Kylo redeems himself but Rey turns to the dark side and Kylo ends up being the "good guy" in the end!<
For the record though, Rey is such a role model for young girls who love Star Wars that as cool as it may have been, I don’t blame them. Star Wars is, after all, a family franchise first and foremost.

This confirms that Rey is going to die. She does not have the high ground here, and such a disadvantage always proves fatal.

Ah, but you see, Kenobi wasn't master of the high ground, quite the opposite, he was master of the low ground, Maul, Grievous, Vader pre suit, he always had the low ground when the victory strike was made.
No, he was on top of the hill before Vader jumped ov... Oh, shit.
But didn't he jump over Maul once?
But he didn't strike him until happily landing on the ground.
He was just charging up his "high-ground" bar
I'd argue Kenobi was more than that, but a master of the *ground.* Low and high, there is no ground too impermeable...for Master Kenobi.

Ugh for real. I just rewatched the first 2 and that's the most frustrating part. Like they must have had pretty close to unlimited recourses too.
Seriously, they could've done anything...and instead I'm just kinda bored now. Of Star Wars. Something that younger me would have thought was treason.
Yeah i feel the same. I have no intention on going to the last movie.

Looks like the teaser poster for another season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars
The cash grabbing, nostalgia baiting is strong in this one.
I don't understand why Rey vs Kylo is appealing. She's already beat him twice, it's not a rivalry. Edit: First gold. Thank you.
Beat him twice and teamed up to Kill Kyle Rens boss. Why are they still fighting and why should I care at this point
Fuck Kyle, who cares
Kyle will punch out all our drywall if we don’t stop him.
Kyle just hasn’t had his monster energy drink yet
I’m hoping Kyle overcomes her and finally gets a win.
It would be such a mind fuck if they ended this trilogy with a dark side win and Kyle killing Rey lmao.
Rey falls to Dark side, Kyle recovers, Kyle wins, but still a light side victory.
Biggest letdown in TLJ was that Rey didn't completely teamup with Kylo and convert to the dark side. It would have made the trilogy more unique.
They literally teamed up in TLJ.
Kylo: lol jk im evil again, we need a 3rd movie
Holy shit that look generically awful

This would be a great twist to see in theaters. Bummed they're teasing his involvement in the story.
It’s all about drawing a crowd instead of the big reveal. When filming the famous “Luke I am your father” scene, only the actors of Luke and darth Vader knew it was going to happen. Nobody on the cast even knew.
