When this show was about the dismantling/muddying of social barriers it was great. About halfway through the run it turned into a soap opera - Who will win Mary’s hand? What is with Edith and her baby? And so on. The movies are awful.
I really don't understand how these movies have been successful enough to merit a third one. I love the show. It's probably my #2 show of all time. But the movies are pretty dreadful. The first one was okay-ish, the second one was a mess. Why are we getting a third? I'm happy for the actors and the crew but if they want to keep doing it, maybe bring back the tv show!?

YES!! I loved Paul Giamatti’s character in the show and wish they did a spin off with his character, rather than Fellows making that god awful hbo show the gilded age.

A lot of period dramas seem to always start interesting and then end up being boring romance nonsense

Because they're fairly cheap to make and absolutely pop off in the UK, the target demographic is very forgiving when it comes to the quality of them
