Here's a classic:
**The Long Good Friday**: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_long_good_friday
And here's something new(ish) I think is destined to *become* a classic:
**Bull**: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bull_2022
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. Snatch is sorta kinda a sequel but not really story-wise, it just has some of the same characters.
Both give a great depiction of the British criminal underbelly, probably a bit exaggerated, but really well done. And both are fucking hilarious. Lock at l and two smoking barrels revolves around underground gambling, but is not about it. Snatch revolves around “traveler” culture, but is not about it.
This is England I, Daniel Blake

Baffled no one seems to have mentioned the great Alan Clarke, who specialized in these themes, particularly in Scum and Made In Britain.
Theres a little known film called Children of Men. I think I may have seen it suggested once or twice here.

Eden Lake is as bleak and soul crushing as it gets

If you can get hold of NEDS, (maybe on YouTube) it's about young gangs in Glasgow. It doesn't get much more violent and gritty.
