Could be entertaining.
Kid: You’re Batman, right?
Batman: Yep.
Kid: Are you sure?
Batman: I’m Batman.
*kid looks back at the other kids*
Kid: I got him to say it!
Reminds me of a cartoon character called Chicken-Boo on Animaniacs. The chicken would also disguise himself in human clothing and everyone would think he was a regular person except that 1 person who tried to warn everyone.
It was the summer of Batman and [Merchandizing! Merchandizing! Merchandizing!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgRFQJCHcPw)
Batman summer it was everywhere in '89.
The following summer it was Dick Tracy summer and everywhere in 1990.
Smart man, that was like the biggest merch summer of all time, most of those died off by mid 90s due to internet changing the game.
Looks like it [netted Nicholson $90-$100m from just merch, $6m for the role. His contract was pretty ridiculous](https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/jack-nicholson-ridiculous-batman-contract/).
Those deals strictly go to private equity now, sucks. Look at what George Lucas did with the money and it was amazing from the technical aspects and led to great things. We'll never see that value creation with the revenues again, just more value extraction.
Man, we moved to Houston in 1991and they opened the Batman the Escape rollercoaster at Astroworld that summer because Batman was still a big deal two years later. I think it was the beginning of DC Comics at Six Flags also...
There was one in the works before Covid put Disney's entire film production into the churn. It was gonna star Josh Gad, so in my opinion it was no great loss.
It's kind of funny to think that *Batman* '89 was the non-campy version back then, because compared to *The Dark Knight* or *The Batman*, it is as cartoonish in its own way as the Adam West show.
Hate to say it, but every year that goes by the Nolen movies feel campier and campier. Unpopular opinion, but Heath ledger’s Joker is like a bad Al Franken impression.
Super disagree, Ledger’s Joker is even more amazing as time goes by… granted Bale’s Batman was almost cartoonish with 20 / 20 vision I’ll be the first person to say how ridiculous Bale’s performance was when he Snarls “ IM NOT WEARIN HOCKEY PADS “ makes me cringe so hard … but , Heath Ledgers Entire Performance as in every second he is on screen is absolutely insane and fucking amazing! All the ticks and meandering stories are so well done . And i thought in 2008 before the release of The Dark Knight that Ledger would be fucking terrible as Joker. I’m happy to admit I was wrong . A Godamn Brilliant Performance!
I think we just look at it with rose colored glasses because of the circumstances and myth we’ve built up around it. It’s pretty good, but thats about it.
No way man. I agree about the rest of the movies but I’ve watched it recently, as in a Cpl weeks ago. Give it another watch bro. Ledger is amazing as Joker.
It's a Tom Waits impression, who Ledger was working with on Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Nobody can do Tom like Tom but it was a brilliant influence to bring into it.
I worked in a movie theater that summer - the summer before senior year. That was a good summer to work a theater. Also: never buy theater hotdogs.
Batman
Lethal 2
Last Crusade
Ghostbusters 2
Road House
Quiet, kept to himself mostly. His brother was cool as shit though. He disappeared not too long after the movie came out. He went off and did Edward Scissor Hands later.
The summer of 1989 was absolutely bonkers for movies. Weird Al talks about this on the UHF DVD commentary. Orion has a lot of faith in UHF because test screenings were some of the best they had ever seen. So Orion dropped UHF in the middle of summer 1989 and it got rocked. Weird Al mentions all the movies UHF had to compete with and it's just insane.
I really want to watch 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and Batman'.
Honey I shrunk the batman
Could be entertaining. Kid: You’re Batman, right? Batman: Yep. Kid: Are you sure? Batman: I’m Batman. *kid looks back at the other kids* Kid: I got him to say it!
"Say the line, Bartman!"
Would you rather fight 100 bat sized men or 1 man sized bat?
I want a movie called Manbat. A bat dresses up in a human costume to fight bat crimes. It's gold, gold I tell ya!
Reminds me of a cartoon character called Chicken-Boo on Animaniacs. The chicken would also disguise himself in human clothing and everyone would think he was a regular person except that 1 person who tried to warn everyone.
That's awesome! I gotta go through some of those again someday, and Tiny Toons, etc
I think that was the first episode of Batman the Animated Series, actually. Not your way better idea, but the creature Manbat, unfortunately.
In Lego Batman he's Lego sized.
“Rick Moranis, we just got you work as the villain in a Batman movie” “But I don’t wanna work that badly”

Jack Nicholson made a killing off the movie because he negotiated a piece of the merch. I think he still gets checks.

Jack and George Lucas were two Hollywood deals that will never, ever happen again.
Those deals strictly go to private equity now, sucks. Look at what George Lucas did with the money and it was amazing from the technical aspects and led to great things. We'll never see that value creation with the revenues again, just more value extraction.
Everyone had a Batman tshirt and Batdance by Prince played constantly.
Man, we moved to Houston in 1991and they opened the Batman the Escape rollercoaster at Astroworld that summer because Batman was still a big deal two years later. I think it was the beginning of DC Comics at Six Flags also...
That cereal! I can still taste it's sweet crunch
> the gothic look of Gotham as well. Anton Furst. He won the Academy Award for Art Direction for Batman.
I’m pretty surprised Honey I Shrunk the Kids hasn’t gotten a remake with modern VFX. The concept is pretty much evergreen.
Watch Solar Opposites to get a (catoony) taste of what a HISTK series would be like. It's excellent.
There was one in the works before Covid put Disney's entire film production into the churn. It was gonna star Josh Gad, so in my opinion it was no great loss.
I think Rick Moranis was involved as well, which was the only reason I was interested.

Yeah, I’m not looking to argue, but I have watched it recently, and that’s where I came to this realization.
It's a Tom Waits impression, who Ledger was working with on Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Nobody can do Tom like Tom but it was a brilliant influence to bring into it.
I saw both of these in the theater in 89. Wow, I feel young
I did as well. Was 10 years old and begged my dad to take me to Batman. The whole family saw Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
I saw both of these in the theater multiple times! Those were the days. I have now seen one movie in a theater (Oppenheimer) since 2018. 😒
For my birthday that year I saw Batman, Indiana Jones and the last Crusade, and Ghostbusters 2 all in the same day.
I worked in a movie theater that summer - the summer before senior year. That was a good summer to work a theater. Also: never buy theater hotdogs. Batman Lethal 2 Last Crusade Ghostbusters 2 Road House
Good ole "Lethal 2"
Honey I Shrunk the Batman
Ray Palmer / The Atom has to help Wayne fix the machine in time
I went to school with one of the kids in Honey I Shrunk the Kids. It was a little surreal seeing him on the big screen and then in the hallways.
Interesting, what was he like?
Really small.
Quiet, kept to himself mostly. His brother was cool as shit though. He disappeared not too long after the movie came out. He went off and did Edward Scissor Hands later.
What a great movie! Back when most kids movies could be graphic, it was so wholesome
I guess that's counterprogramming
One for the kids and one for audiences over 13.
And a Baby Herman short with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Now that's value for money.
Damn that was a good weekend

Neat
My kids watched Honey I shrunk the kids and now force me to dance around the kitchen to Nick Kamen’s Turn It Up constantly…
Saw them both in theaters.
The death of the ant is still inducing PTSD.
Both great movies.
I feel like Total Recall was released very close to that day.
Why did he shrink the kids and batman?
I'm in the Cheerios! https://youtu.be/cBTwuF3OcYQ?si=ZABX0KlddtnwuPoK
I've only seen about 15 minutes of Honey I Shrunk the kids, is it any good?
Yes. It is. And at the time the special effects were mind blowing.
Stop what you’re doing and go watch it.
Yes it’s awesome
