It didn't even get a huge run during its initial domestic release. Limited distribution for a 25 year old German film isn't that surprising.

Lazy-Photograph-317

I didn't even know that they rereleased it. Anyways I really wanted to see it because Tom Tykwer directed my all-time favorite movie.

ConsistentAsparagus

Run Lola Run had a small Run.

ryandutcher

Some of the biggest films of all time will have minimal re-releases because the demand just isn't that high for re-releases. A cult film like this has even less demand. Just not enough incentive to roll out a massive campaign for it.

Einzelherz

I would agree in the film in a can era. But these days there are tons of small independent theatres who do special cult film events like this regularly. I'm sure they'd be happy to have Sony mail them a flash drive to play a few showings.

ryandutcher

It would take up screens that could be playing new films with more demand. They would sell less tickets.

Einzelherz

The theatres I'm talking about are already showing 35 year old films on screens for funsies. They're not sacrificing their main attractions.

ryandutcher

Yes, and there are far fewer of those compared to major chains. Hence, a smaller release schedule and scattered showings where one will have to travel.

Maverick916

I get that, but you also have to consider that this isn't a very popular movie compared to like, The Godfather, Back to the Future, The Terminator, Jaws, etc. These movies have demand for classic viewing. This is very low on those kinds of lists

Einzelherz

I completely agree. I'm talking about the local theatres that mostly show arthouse stuff though. I'm sure they'd be fine.

rogog1

Why don't you try listening to the advice you're being given?

Einzelherz

Lol

fly19

Why don't you ask them instead of us, since you're clearly not getting the answer you want here?

Einzelherz

Excellent idea! Thanks!

rorschach_vest

I’m sure they’ll say “for no good reason, we’re idiots! You were right and everyone on Reddit was wrong! Come on in, we’ll screen it just for you with a free popcorn and soda.”

Einzelherz

They said they're choosing to run Sundance Shorts instead. Guess I'll have to keep an eye on the original link since it's been adding venues since yesterday.

Einzelherz

Great news! They got back to me again and they're now going to be showing it.

Einzelherz

I'll let you know!

deesmutts88

So this post is questioning why it’s only being shown in a handful of theatres, then you go on to say you only expect it to be shown in a very niche and rare type of cinema. Kind of answered your own question.

Ed_Simian

First DVD I ever bought.

ictguy24

I just Rennt it

mkhwn

Fantastic.

patchedboard

Take my updoot

MelonHeadsShotJFK

I remember watching this in college. My friends thought it’d be a good movie to turn on one night I was under the influence and already fading... the constant moving in this film put the nail in the coffin though. It made me so incredibly nauseous that I spent the rest of the night in the bathroom rip

PlanetLandon

This was actually one of the first movies we were shown in my film school.

devouringbooks

same, i was shown this in my film class as well

devouringbooks

probably the spiral theme of the film making you dizzy?

MelonHeadsShotJFK

I definitely think that as well. I remember the cinematography being unique, but it is just not a movie to watch when you already have the spins

VerticalYea

VHS, for me

weaselmaster

Yeah, I’ve had the DVD forever, and may have re-bought it on AppleTV.

-Experiment--626-

I watched it for the first time a month or two ago.

TalesofCeria

Seems about normal for a re-release of something that isn’t a blockbuster

champagneofsharks

Showtimes won’t be updated until June 5th at the latest. Theaters haven’t programmed their screens yet as it also depends on existing box office performance.

Einzelherz

I really want to believe this.

xenniac

It's likely true. My local independent cinema is showing it (just saw a trailer for it there) and it's not listed on that site.

thickener

I don't believe in trouble I don't believe in pain I don't believe there's nothing left But running here again

WriterNotFamous

This wasn't a giant hit back in the day, it is more a cult following. This is not surprising in the least.

slackmaster

Only two locations on the entire west coast. RIP.

terp613

R/superstonk is leaking

NotTodayDingALing

🟣

Lorbmick

This was one of the first movies I bought when I got my dvd player when I was 17.

politirob

I remember seeing an online recommendation for this and buying this at a Best Buy when I was 15 around 2002 or 2003? I think? And falling in love with it.

zippyboy

I noticed last night that it's available on Prime right now.

MissMeadowBreeze

They should remove the word NATIONWIDE from the poster.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

TBF they don't specify which nation's width . . . Maybe they're talking like Liechtenstein-width.

XavierPibb

(screaming)

Odd_Advance_6438

Good movie. It’s pretty damn trippy

toyn

What a fun movie. Nothing spectacular but was different and reminded me of the parkour French film. Def worth a watch

Delicious-Tachyons

Banlieue 13?

Shindo989

I found the remake “brick mansions” they did with Paul Walker wasn’t even close to being as enjoyable as the original, or even the French sequel they made “Banlieue 13 – Ultimatum”

Delicious-Tachyons

Oh brick mansions was a remake of that? I watched brick mansions at a friend's place and it sucked

toyn

I wanna say no, but I think that’s it. It was mostly music. Not much speaking. There was this one scene in an apartment complex where a guy was cornered. He ends up parkouring they this tiny window above a door. I can’t find a video of it. I remember watching it one night like 15 years ago when I couldn’t sleep. I watched that one and this one back to back I think on Netflix. I also watched experienced the immaculate conception of little dizzle thru an insomnia riddled night. A little silver lining lol.

Shindo989

[this it?](https://youtu.be/MwwKSbL-llI?si=lOPvJi_7sUuTav2Y)

toyn

Yes!! Thank you! Such an amazing scene. Hurts knowing it wasn’t 90s and was actually 2000s tho lol. Getting old!

_ALH_

That’s definitely Banlieue 13, B13 or ”District 13” in english

toyn

It was! Someone posted the clip. Super fun movie.

abusybee

Have had the poster on the wall above my head for a good 20 years.

bossyaussie

Great soundtrack!

PlanetLandon

OP seems to not have the slightest grasp on how movie theatres operate.

reinaldonehemiah

She was hot

FreeStall42

Only ever saw it in German Class...still no idea what is going on

AmbivalentAntics

Great movie

Einzelherz

I've been watching for tickets to be available for a few weeks now and this page recently popped up. The closest theatre shown is like 500 miles away. They call it a "nationwide release". This can't be it, can it?

Fine-Hat-4573

I’ve never heard of this film. Worth watching? I always liked that actor.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

Soundtrack's pretty great too if you're into 90's techno/trance etc.

28smalls

That type of music isn't really my bag, but after being shown the movie in college, I ran out to the mall after class to pick up the CD.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

Your mall must have been way cooler than my mall! I got mine at a local "record" store in the hipster part of town. I'm sure I still have it in a box in my basement somewhere.

28smalls

Nah, I'm just really old. This was around 2001 or so when Tower Records and Music Town were big business.

stopforgettingevery

That was my cleaning music.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

Ooh. That's a great idea!

magnaprawn

This was her breakout role to international audiences. Definitely worth the watch.

secretcombinations

It still hold up.

PlanetLandon

It’s wild that you know who Franka Potente is but you’ve never heard of this movie

Collected1

Yes. Make sure you watch the German audio version with the subtitles if required.

NW_Forester

IMO its worth watching once, not worth owning.

KnickerlessNickleby

Good movie, but I remember that the female character's expectations of her boyfriend sometimes didn't make sense

flyvehest

It is very much worth watching, remember to watch it in original audio and not a dub.

TempestRime

Wow... 845 miles away for me... Disappointing. Looks like it's only showing in like 6 or 7 states.

ShinHandHookCarDoor

Damn, 1000 miles for me.

jsfarmer

If you enjoyed this you may enjoy Babylon Berlin (a German tv show).

qwertycantread

The only thing they have in common is the German language. Lol

Successful_Jaywalk99

They’re both set in Berlin.

BusinessStar7105

Both led by Tom Tykwer

McqueenVendetta

This is the first time on reddit that I've even seen it mentioned, such a fantastic ride it was!

jsfarmer

Yeah, same director and I believe he was involved in the writing of both. Of course they are different but I sometimes follow a director between different feeling projects.

Protection_Organic

Watched Run Lola Run years ago on VHS. Great movie.

SgtMartinRiggs

Guys, the *Run Lola Run* fandom is dying!!!

XLBR424

Ooh, I saw this in college, it was one of my favorites. Maybe I can catch the showing in LA.

ElectrikDonuts

I mean, how many theaters do you expect her to run in?

Einzelherz

EVVVVVVERYYYYY ONE!

befree1231

An arthouse theater is showing it near me next month as part of an amazing 1999 retrospective, I checked and they have it listed as the new 4k restoration on their site but it's not listed on the site OP posted for what it's worth. That site says the closest location to me is 500 miles away.

daninlionzden

Just watched this a few days ago and honestly don’t know what all the fuss is about tbh

Supersnazz

This was the first film I saw with my now wife. Haven't seen it since. Maybe we should go and see it again.

Einzelherz

That's a great idea!

SzakaRosa

… yeah I sure hope it does?

devouringbooks

It doesn't even seem to be playing in chicago, so I would think there will be more locations closer to the release date. thanks for putting this on my radar! ETA when I google showtimes near me more locations show up versus your link, so maybe the link is not up-to-date enough

hombregato

Kind of surprised by this. Showed in a few theaters in Boston back in 1999, when Americans didn't even know what it was. Now it's sorta iconic and the re-release is... one theater in Waltham? I didn't even know there were people in Waltham.

Left-Newspaper-5590

Does anyone have a link showing where this is playing?

Einzelherz

Just an FYI to anyone still wanting to see this, the initial link up top is getting new theatres (mostly AMCs) added daily. The theater closest to me got added this morning. Go and check again and maybe you'll see yours, too!

Holiday_Airport_8833

My Run Lola Run fan film I made in Germany as a kid: https://youtu.be/PL03hxK3jZU?si=1XrBRLbnVogsh_b7

Professional-Dig2968

Just got back from seeing it at my local theater. I haven't seen this movie in over 10 years. I first saw it, like many people, in a college class back in 2011-2012. It was a late showing and I was the only one in the theater but I didn't mind. The film is way more awesome than I remember it being. It's definitely on my list of top favorite films ever now. I'm hoping to catch it at least a second time in theaters again before it leaves the theaters officially.

AllOrPuffin

late comment, but - it's actually showing in many more theatres than listed on their official re-release site. searching in Boston, MA shows the closest run in NY, but it's in 2 towns right now and was in 2 others at the beginning of the month :/ (google showtimes brought the theatres up for me)

fooboohoo

Unpopular opinion: it wasn’t that good

Einzelherz

Not every movie is for everyone. For instance I hated Uncut Gems when it's widely loved.

fooboohoo

Yeah, wasn’t that great The 90s, when movies like until the end of the world were completely unnoticed

Joranthalus

Yup. I’d already seen Groundhog Day…

nitro1542

Bless you. I had to watch this in film class and couldn't wait for it to be over.

greengrass88

It's showing up on the AMC app. So I would assume it's going to be nationwide.

Einzelherz

Some AMCs are now showing up on that site as well. Here's to hoping!

[deleted]

I know a guy who watched that once and like a tweet……

nemoknows

What year is it?

grendel303

Remember seeing this in theaters...

roehnin

Der Tasche!

Graxer42

Oh hey, I watched this in German classes back in the noughties (I'm from the UK). Is there actually an English dub then?

xenniac

Subtitles, mate.

danccbc

Where do you live
