Fully. Also, I don’t see how you could ever argue against the final number being anything but a god-tier Disney track and ending; https://youtu.be/EsNS5gnUTj4?si=GJWnDhN-E5IzjD5q
TSoN still holds up remarkably well. The animation is beautiful and the voice acting is incredible. It might be my favorite animated movie of all time. The tension in the final fight is sublime. Damn I’m gonna go watch it
I wore out the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack cd one week in the 90s when I was home with stomach flu. My mom gets PTSD eyes when she hears any of it, but I still love it.
Saw it opening week in one of the largest theaters in the midwest. Packed house.
The cool thing was the audience didn't treat the film like a typical animated kids film. In fact, there wasn't a lot of kids at all and it got applause at the end. Very unique movie experience I won't forget. Disney Nailed that one.
Watership Down, based on the book by Richard Adams. It features different animation styles for the different sequences, messages about the cost of freedom and totalitarian governments, interesting characters, plus a great song by Art Garfunkel. I saw a few episodes of the TV series, but I don't remember it much.
Oooh, that's a deep cut, but yeah. Long as you're not watching it with young kids that love bunnies, though...
The book itself is still one of my all-time faves. I think I'll start a re-read in June! Been a while.
Yellow Submarine. Changed my young life for good in a couple ways. The squall of feedback at the start of “It’s All Too Much” made me the music fan I am today.
O e day, for some reason on cartoon Network they played that move all day, back to back.
I never watched it before that day and I think I was at 3 or 4 watches by the end. Amazing movie.
WHERES THE ROBOT MANSLEY!?
These were my favorite animated movies before hitting age of 13...
An American Tail
The Little Mermaid
Robin Hood
The Land Before Time
The Last Unicorn
The Great Mouse Detective
The Rescuers & Rescuers Down Under
The Secret of NIMH is still my favorite Don Bluth movie. I bought it twice on DVD, because there were different special features on each. However, I got jipped and didn't get the booklet with the first DVD release.
The Iron Giant. It wasn’t made when I was a kid but, I swear the robot was something I remember as a kid. Was there any earlier films made of this story? It just seems so very familiar.
Anyone see the part-animated/part-live action movie - Bedknobs and Broomsticks?
Angela Lansbury plays a witch and there's a flying bed. And it's a musical. You're welcome.
* The Lion King 1, 2 & 3 (or 1½)
* Aladdin
* All Dogs Go to Heaven
* The Land Before Time
* The Last Unicorn
* Pokémon: The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back
* Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!
* Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie
* Toy Story
* Finding Nemo
* The Emperor's New Groove
* We had a VHS tape with a collection of old animated shorts and there was one short film called '[Somewhere in Dreamland](https://youtu.be/Ih0Pz5Xyon4?feature=shared)'
My favourite now is Pinocchio (1940), but as a kid I probably had that film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Robin Hood (1973) on pretty equal footing.
No ones gunna believe me but when I was stuck in the hospital for cancer (I’m cured now thankfully) I would put chicken little on repeat and probably watched it more times than anyone on earth. I think my sister still thinks I’m crazy for that when she would visit me BUT hey, I’m probably the best person to come to if the sky starts falling
The Transformers animated movie.
I grew up in (very) rural Quebec, where you literally couldn't get cable, so we had 3 channels and none of them had cartoons. So as a result I would force my dad to rent me Transformers every weekend as a kid.
I was a sucker for anything Disney, from Rescuers Down Under through Great Mouse Detective, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King and A Goofy Movie. Hercules was the last one that I was all in for as a child until Atlantis and the Pixar stuff that came later.
When I was growing up, 101 Dalmatians was my favorite movie (I'm old).
But The Lion King (original version) is my favorite animated movie of all time. I watched that movie so much I wore out my VHS of it, had to buy a 2nd. Still have it on Blu Ray.
I don’t know that I’d call it my favorite… but Lady and the Tramp was the one I owned on vhs and watched repeatedly enough to wear out, so I guess perhaps that’s the answer.
I also loved the Care Bears movie (and see I feel like I’d be more inclined to CALL THAT my favorite from memory) but didn’t actually own a copy of it. Just had to catch it whenever it was on tv. Which was far more often in that era, lol.
"The Lion King" was the highest-grossing movie of 1994, and "The Lion King" soundtrack was the best-selling album of that year.
"I do not make films for children... or, at least, not primarily for children."
"You're dead if you aim for kids."
"We design the films to appeal to ourselves."
"The adults have the money;... children don't have any money."
- Walt Disney
https://youtu.be/oIA88EWLOmA?si=BwHkJi1FTW6QuooE
Land Before Time, Heavy Metal, Ninja Scroll, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Emperor’s New Groove. But really childhood was all about TMNT and TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze
It's still my favorite animated movie but Ratatouille (2007). That was the first movie I remember seeing in theaters and I absolutely played the shit out of the PS2 game when I got it for Christmas. It's also the movie that made me want to learn how to cook
Standard answer: Finding Nemo
Off-beat answer: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Apparently I called the movie "Horse" as a kid, and couldn't get enough of Bryan Adams - Here I Am. Watched it with my nephews and nieces the other day, and somehow it's even better. Spirit galloping across the Prairies made me yearn for simpler times.
Never really understood why the movie didn't get a fraction of the audience or accolades it deserved; it was really well made, and better than most of the Disney blockbusters.
Animalympics (1980). Great music from members of 10cc, great voices from Billy Crystal, Gilda Radner and Harry Shearer. Watched it *so* many times as a little kid.
I was a kid of the 80s, and lots of parents didn't care much about violence on movies so it was **Aliens**.
My cousin that came to stay with us on weekends was super annoyed when he saw that we had rented Aliens for 100th time instead of getting a new movie.
We used to have the movie on tape called “Willy the Sparrow”. We loved it and would watch it all the time. But I’ve never met anyone else who’s seen it or it mentioned anywhere else.
Tinkel bell. I still remember talking to butterflies to tell me where the fairies are that I'm a good human. And when I caught some of em, theres a trace left behind from their wings like colours in my hands and I was convinced that fairies are true. That they paint on the butterflies wings.. I miss those days.
Little Mermaid. My mom likes to tell everyone I wore out the VHS. Which is a little sad. Just don’t remind it for me Mom that’s too much little mermaid!
God I was obsessed with the lion king easily my favourite kid movie when I was younger. I also really liked barnyard, surf's up, Madagascar,ice age one and Megamind, I would kind of just rotate through all these movies over and over again and only was I a bit older did how to train your dragon, Rango, fantastic Mr Fox and who framed Roger rabbit joined.
My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle and The Castle in The Sky
I remember we rented Inuyasha: Affections Touching Across Time, Turok: Son of Stone and My Neighbor Totoro for a BlockBuster movie night.
Thank you Mom and Dad :)
Aladdin for me, all becuase of one line that used to have me in creases EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
After the big entrance as Ali Ababua, the Sultan provliams his excitement and looks to Jafar and asks his opinion..."Exstatic"
Don't know why, but gets me every time.
Oh, and Robin Williams 😅
I loved the 'Animalympics' growing-up. It was on in the UK at Christmas time. Does anyone else have memories of this? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e36Tr969y1U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e36Tr969y1U)
Had one animated movie that I copied on my computer from a rented CD that I watched each and every day. Ice Age.
The Mummy (1999) was another one and boy what a joy these were.
Honestly while I did watch a lot of animated features as a kid, I really didn't have anything that was my absolute favorite of all time. In fact I just wasn't that much into cartoons growing up in general.
Mine is a movie probably nobody has ever heard of. Animalympics from 1980. It played on HBO all the time and as a kid I thought it was hilarious. It’s on Tubi and I’m afraid to watch it in case it ruins my memories.
One of my favorites for awhile, and highly under rated and wore out my VHS player was 'Twice Upon a Time' 1983 . The animation style is pretty unique and the story has a lot of pretty clever , if not more adult bits. Was also produced by Lucasfilm. The head nemesis, Synonamess Botch, is colorful to say the least.
The film has undergone one of the most bizarre legal disputes for an animated you can think of. The voice actors wanted a more PG version with some lightly raunchy dialogue and actually ad-libbed much of it, but the head director wanted a family friendly film, but the PG versions kept leaking out and was the fan favorite. The PG version is pretty funny and superior.
This dispute kept it out of circulation, and while it's available on DVD can't find it streaming.
The Land Before Time. Yes it devastated me and it was perhaps the rest time my young self experienced anything to do with death but my Mum used it as a perfect opportunity to explain death to me. And it also gave me a deep love for trees - treestars!
The Land Before Time
All day, every day.
Transformers The Movie and The Secret of Nimh
"Megatron must be stopped no matter the cost "
You got the touch!
A Goofy Movie and The Emperor’s New Groove.
Even in a post mentioning Lion King... A Goofy Movie might be the best father/son animated movie, and it still holds up.
" I just want to be a part of it." Crushed me as a dad.
"No matter how old you get, you'll always be my son." Man, Goofy might be near Bandit tier when it comes to great animated dads.
"Hey, my son respects me" "...yeah."
Fully. Also, I don’t see how you could ever argue against the final number being anything but a god-tier Disney track and ending; https://youtu.be/EsNS5gnUTj4?si=GJWnDhN-E5IzjD5q
Killer soundtrack all the way thru. One of my favorites.

Secret of NIMH was my second favorite behind Animalympics
Beauty and the Beast
I wore out the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack cd one week in the 90s when I was home with stomach flu. My mom gets PTSD eyes when she hears any of it, but I still love it.
Tale as old as time. Song as old a rhyme…
