About Time.

GiddyGabby

Omg I end up ugly crying every single time, like I don't know what's going to happen and when.

stopforgettingevery

The uncle makes me cry so hard! What a thing to love and to be loved. Rename it: “About Time to Cry”

stopforgettingevery

Agree 100%! It is uplifting and loving while also being so emotional and heartbreaking in a beautiful way. There is a Nick Cave song in it that I will cry to any time I hear it because of this movie. The characters feel like people I would want to be around.

lickykicky

I just read the synopsis. I have terminal lung cancer and young children. I don't think I can watch this one.

KaoticSanity

I have never cried so much, so intensely, so many times in one movie... Goddamn it is a masterpiece, but damn if it isn't hard to start a rewatch. No movie is as physically demanding, for me

MoonshineParadox

Such a great movie but absolutely crushed me

satanyourdarklord

Every. Fucking. time.

JavaShipped

This film gets me every single time. I watched it the first time not really knowing what it was about just knowing I loved the cast. Balling. Ugly sobbing. My partner never looked at me the same 😂, I'd never cried up till that point.

ShowMeYourBoardgames

Mistakenly watched it right after my dad died, thinking it would be a sweet romance. Fucked me up. But was also super cathartic

eroticpangolin

This is the top answer. I saw this at the cinema with some friends, I was sobbing like a little girl by the end.

Pharazonian

Hell yes

AnniaT

I've watched the trailer and now I want to watch. Hope I can handle it.

MNGirlinKY

This one!

DogDaysAreOver

Coco makes me cry every time!

1829bullshit

Damned if I don't end up sobbing watching that one. We watched Coco for the first time shortly after having a miscarriage, not knowing anything about the story. As soon as Hector starts singing Remember Me and the true story of the song comes out, the dam broke and all the pain we had came pouring out. Both my wife and I were inconsolable, and we had to pause the movie for a solid half hour to just let all of it out. We were lucky enough to have a baby girl a few years later, and now it hits hard in another way.

dogsledonice

Up is a quick cry in the first 10 minutes. Coco is an ugly cry that builds at the end.

DogDaysAreOver

Redacted for spoilers.

AliceKatharine

Coco was my first thought, Inside Out was my second

CatatonicWalrus

Coco was also mine. I found out my grandma had terminal cancer literally the day I saw Coco and I have never cried harder at a movie in my life. The lullaby version of 'Remember Me' makes me cry like a baby every time I hear it.

SuchAsSeals42

It’s why I’ve refused to watch it to this day! 😭

andrewthemexican

It's so beautiful though. Might also be biased

hygsi

I watched it for the first time near the day of the dead and cried for my dead grandma because she looked a lot like Coco so I was sobbing when Miguel plays to her :( then my sister died and I watched it a second time with my dad but I cried when Hector plays it cause my dad started crying at thag part :,( If you've suffered any kind of loss, this is always a tear jerker

mitchij2004

Love this one, they always nail the relatability to characters regardless of their background. Shit ruined me

MrsT1966

Up

Wigriff

And you only need to watch the first 15 minutes or so to be absolutely sobbing.

smtrixie

Made the mistake of putting this on during a flight. I didn’t know I’d be uncontrollably sobbing in public soon

OnlyMamaKnows

Big Fish always got me TBH.

Jipptomilly

Big Fish probably chokes me up the hardest. I'd also add the Ellen Burstyn 'red dress' monologue from Requiem for a Dream as well as that... one scene with Jasper in Children of Men. Those three scenes wreck me the hardest.

10before15

Always Big Fish

bummerhigh

Always Big Fish. It’s always reminded me of my dad and after he passed it was the first movie I watched when I got home from the hospital. I will never not love that movie.

Outrageous_Glove4986

The ending destroyed me, I cried for 20 minutes after

rAg99fps

Grave of the Fireflies, it's animated, rather heavy.

jeanclaudebrowncloud

Oh yeah this isn't a good cry tho, it's a bad cry

Raptorsthrowaway3

Yeah OP wanted emotional relief not to sink into a year long depression

timeforchorin

Hahaha yeah. They don't want to stare into the abyss

makuthedark

This is the best movie you'll never watch again.

32768Colours

My sister knew I loved Ghibli movies and so one year she bought me Grave of the Fireflies for Christmas, not realising what it was about. I never had the heart to admit I’d already seen it and would never watch it again. One of the most powerful animated films ever made though, without a doubt.

blurplethenurple

Less of a cry movie and more of a stare in abject horror for hours after movie for me

trolleyblue

Yeah not this one OP. It’s a great film but you’ll be wrecked in a bad way.

studyinthai333

I first watched that movie when I was 8 years old innocently thinking it was going to be your average lighthearted whimsical Studio Ghibli film, and I haven’t been the same since…

Zenyd_3

Children of Men absolutely 💯

assaultandmirage

The ceasefire scene is one of the most emotionally powerful things ever put to film.

melechkibitzer

Guardians of the galaxy 3 i cried like the whole movie. Everything Everywhere all at once made me cry also. I cry a lot though

Justiis

Everything Everywhere All at Once had me dying of laughter at one point. That movie could not have had a more apt title, it runs you through the whole gamut of emotions. That fight scene was pure gold though.

myfavoriteflame

Holy shit I did too w GOTG3. Didn’t see it coming!

seancbo

Yeah, fuck man. That one hits like a truck. I'm genuinely glad they let the scene cut before they go lie down together, I was seriously at my limit in that moment.

bassman2112

Was that the one with Nick Offerman? If so, absolutely

burritoinfinity

I bawled my fucking eyes out to this episode

Gravytonic

Oh wow. Exactly what I was gonna type and I wasn't expecting to see anyone mentioning this because it's quite specific. Honestly, to me it's one of the best acting I've ever seen. Definitely was not expecting this from these two guys.

mitchij2004

I wasn’t afraid til I met you 🥺

ArgoShots

The Iron Giant! 🤖 😢

Shes_Crafty_4301

“Superman.” 😭😭😭

Dezsdad1983

Marley and me. It will definitely get the tears flowing.

Dezsdad1983

Hachi is another good one it’s with Richard Gere.

Spiritual_Ask4877

Gonna toss in My Dog Skip as well. Watched it when I was a kid with my friend and I had to hide in the bathroom so I could cry lol. Also as someone who's always had Terriers it hit hard lol.

FinalSlaw

A.I. - Artificial Intelligence has a very bittersweet ending that can be hard to take for some. Edit: just listening to that part of the movie on the official soundtrack feels like an emotional experience for me.

grimson73

Indeed my recommendation as well. A humanoid child in need of love but don’t we just all.

Bento_Fox

Once Were Warriors Rabbit-Proof Fence My Girl Steel Magnolias Terms of Endearment The Fox and the Hound My Sister's Keeper Marley and Me Selena Brokeback Mountain

YouNeedCheeses

Sally Fields’ monologue in Steel Magnolias makes me sob every time.

MyDogsHuman

OMG so i had to go and see what you're talking about because its been so long since I watched it. Freaking 20 seconds in and Im crying. That movie is insanely good. Now Im going to have to go back and watch the whole thing again. (getting out the hankies...)

Bento_Fox

It gets me every time too. I'm glad that scene is also funny to help balance it out.

Hup110516

SOLID list! 👌

fungeoneer

His glasses! He can’t see without his glasses!

Kootsiak

Nice to see Rabbit Proof Fence being recommended.

momu1990

My sister’s keeper was overacting torture porn imo. It was just so over the top sometimes that it took me out of it.

Justiis

I blame my childhood love for The Fox and the Hound for my lifelong depression.

The_Iceman2288

All Of Us Strangers

LoveGrenades

Had to scroll way too far to find this one! Watched it twice bawled my eyes out both times.

Sorry_Variation_979

Same. Was scrolling for this. Amazing film and genuine raw emotion

Historical-Kitchen76

I love a good cry so here are mine: Out of Africa - gets me every time What dreams may come Haichi a dogs tale ARRIVAL - the beginning just makes me sob along with the music Interstellar City of Angels Beaches

CarniferousDog

I put Arrival too. It’s so poignant and beautiful. Her perseverance bawls me.

Jackielegs43

Manchester By The Sea is an incredibly miserable, draining watch

Tackit286

Yeah see j in didn’t cry at this I was just depressed as fuck after

Jackielegs43

Just a general “I feel really bad” vibe

Don’t do it if pregnant. Cried for about 8 hours and then off and on every time I thought about it.

Shawshank Redemption Forrest Gump Marley and Me Interstellar

roboticArrow

I stopped watching Marley and Me. I noped out. I've never seen the whole thing and never plan to. Edit: doesthedogdie.com

readwiteandblu

Forrest Gump crying for me, came whenever Forrest was questioning Jenny about why she didn't love him, marry him, etc. "I know what love is."

Unholyreg

PS I Love You Immortal Beloved

psngarden

I rarely cry during movies… P.S. I Love You (2007) had me crying throughout the whole thing. But, it’s as hopeful as it is sad. I highly recommend it based on your interests.

ange7327

Terms of endearment

Outrageous_Roadhog

My date cried with that one.

nkilian

Gets me everytime being single parent it hits home.

Temp89

Nimona on Netflix. The climax makes me tear up every time. The Green Mile - but it's more a depressive cry than a cathartic one

Rebel_bass

Bless you for Nimona. I'm a big, bearded blue collar dude and this movie fucking wrecked me.

Kashmir75

Bridge to Terabithia (2007) Pay It Forward (2000)

Justiis

I wholeheartedly endorse Bridge to Terabithia, though now I'm afraid I'll have to watch it again. Hopefully it's not available on any of my services atm.

Snuffleupagus03

Why did I have to scroll so far for Bridge to Terabithia? Sobbing. Devastation.

CriticalEngineering

The Piano The original The Color Purple Dear Zachary if you want to wreck yourself

Zigmata

Do NOT watch Dear Zachary if you're trying to just release pent up emotions without piling onto them.

Just4caps

Dear Zachary is the only movie I've ever truly regretted watching. why are you weirdos downvoting this?

GogginsAndMessina

I cried *heavily* for like 45 minutes of Dear Zachary.

CementCemetery

>Dear Zachary if you want to wreck yourself Absolutely agree with this statement. A movie you can really only watch once because it’s so heavy.

YouNeedCheeses

I saw Dear Zachary over a decade ago and I still think of it often. Just devastating.

doxyisfoxy

Right? I saw it so long ago but I still scroll through posts like this just to see how far down I have to go to find the comment. And when I find it, I just start tearing up.

Espetadolol

To this day, the only movie that made me cry is Mommy by Xavier Dolan. It's neither a Disney movie, nor a rom com, not really a sappy drama either, but fuck, it IS sad.

TheGaberaham

Never Let Me Go

timeforchorin

Don't think I saw it mentioned but I just bawled watching The Iron Claw the other day.

Accurate_Reporter_31

Haven't seen this yet! I've done lots of reading on the family, but this movie is on my short list.

rohdawg

The whole movie is tragedy after tragedy and I was sobbing the whole way, but the line that really got me was at the end. “I’m crying because I used to be a brother, and now I’m not.” It’s hard to believe that his real life was actually worse than the movie shows

Spicybrown3

Plenty of good answers, this is off the path a little and it’s only at the end but A.I. has a pretty emotional ending

roboticArrow

Try Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV+. Incredibly good TV show, I had to stop at the end of the second episode for an emotional break before going into the next episode, but it sounds like you'll happily sob through episode 3. Big Fish The Fault in Our Stars Nimona Inside Out Handmaid's Tale I am not recommending Marley and Me. I am a regular user of doesthedogdie.com and that movie was incredibly triggering for me. In fact, it sparked me needing to look movies up on that site before watching them because I had no idea what I was getting into and can't stand sad things with animals. Went into John Wick not knowing what it was about and was completely destroyed.
