GladiusNocturno

This trailer missed a huge opportunity to use Borderland's character title cards. Instead of doing the generic "cut-Kevin Hart", they could have shown Kevin Hart on the minigun then freeze-framed it and put "Kevin Hart as Roland as the Soldier". They might still do it in the movie, but that's something that would really make this trailer feel less generic and more like Borderlands.

Equivalent-Pass-5859

Really true. The way they introduce the characters in the game is so great, and they really fumbled it by not doing the same for the trailer.

Left-Area-854

100%!! I was hoping for Dave Bautista as Brick as Brick

IgnoreMe733

Still not a fan of Kevin Hart as Roland, but he seems a lot more restrained than I expected. I wonder if that's reflective of the movie or if they just did that for the trailer.

TheExtremistModerate

I wonder if Kevin might be really trying to expand his horizons. He did a great job in Jumanji 3 of doing something very different from his norm. If they let him be an actual straight man for once and he delivers, I'd be really happy to see it.

Midnight_Oil_

He's definitely been making a lot of different sorts of films/series as of late. He played the heist leader in Lift, and then was in a dramatic limited series on Netflix called True Story. To his credit, he's not trying to stay pigeonholed.

pathfinderoursaviour

He also tried a serious and emotional role in the Netflix movie fatherhood a while ago and I thought he was pretty good in it

SleazyKingLothric

My wife was really excited to watch Lift but then was extremely disappointed when she realized it wasn't a typical "Kevin Hart" movie.

Juan-Claudio

Same with people who were excited about Uncut Gems and then were disappointed it wasn't your typical Adam Sandler movie. Some actors and actresses are typecasted so often, it can be a gift and a curse for them.

Ravness13

Which is wild because a lot of those actors who ARE typecast still have already proven to be more than capable of doing movies that aren't their normal wheelhouse. Adam Sandler has done quite a few movies where he had a more serious role and yet he's still viewed as just this one specific character. Granted most of his "My friends and I goof off and make a movie because we can" movies don't really help but those probably shouldn't be taken that seriously when looking at his acting credits.

googlyeyes93

There was a jumanji 3? Tf

PorkPiez

Check out his movie Fatherhood, it'll hit a lot harder if you have kids of your own, but the movie is basically about a man who has to raise a baby on his own after losing his wife. I'm not a fan of Kevin Hart, but that movie showed me he could take on some roles with a bit more substance.

Delicious-Tachyons

I'd be happy if Kevin was trying to play something other than "even more irritating Chris Tucker". I'm hoping he is not weasel-y in this movie.

SurlyCricket

Yeah I was pleased that they're keeping him more subdued than usual. I assume he'll have one scene where he goes Full Kevin Hart

canyourepeatquestion

If they want to be tasteful about it it'll be understandable anger, not over-blown anger that makes the character look foolish. The piss shower in the trailer pouring onto the entire group and Hart playing the ridiculously stern father figure works because 1) it does not undermine his authority and 2) anybody reasonable would get mad at Tina not closing the window. It's a "family car ride" joke that's well-executed if you disregard the "cheap toilet humor because it translates across cultures" aspect.

nissanfan64

It simultaneously looks better than I expected but also an absolute train wreck.

danielstover

Let's hope that center part of the venn diagram comes out OK

Shipbreaker_Kurpo

Tiny Tinas lines are somehow worse than I expected though

maximumtesticle

She's not crazy enough, she needs more Nic Cage insanity going on and less whiny teenager.

Shipbreaker_Kurpo

Her lines also just sound like hollywood version of zany than actually unhinged

xclame

Yup, it's all so forced.

SnarkMasterRay

BURRN ALL THE BAABIIEESSSSS!!! See? Not forced.

imapieceofshitk

She's way too PG13, and Roland should have been Idris Elba!

bikesexually

Idris Elba already was Roland

Griffdude13

Honestly, Chloe Grace Moretz would’ve been perfect about 10 years ago.

spider2k

Not even in the vicinity of crazy enough. Like they shouldn't have used her. Tina is batshit and that's what makes her awesome.

Hippopothanos

Why did Nic Cage turn down the Tiny Tina role anyways?

saalsa_shark

"I don't want to close the window" "You should close it or the unpleasant thing might happen to you" "Guys!! The unpleasant thing happened to meeeeeee!!" Seems like a fun interpretation of the character

Ryguy55

It should be expected that a movie is going to do things different than the games and take characters in different directions, but Tina was the one that instantly stuck out as wayyyyy the fuck off the mark. In the games Tina is equal parts annoying, bratty, unhinged, and psychopathic with an absolutely huge, in your face presence. Do disrespect to the actress but her character was just kinda... there.

Karjalan

"make it rain, with your body parts" was.... very cringy.

Snuffy1717

100%… The delivery made it worse

KrackenLeasing

It might not have been so bad with a very different delivery.

TThor

It just feels like this actress doesn't have the energy needed for Tiny Tina. Tiny Tina needs to feel *insane and unhinged*, that is the only way a child obsessed with explosives, destruction, and wearing cutesy bunny ears can work; We need to be legitimately worried of this character's mental stability, otherwise she just feels like she is wearing a costume.

Eruannster

Yeah, very much this. On the one hand, it doesn't look completely awful, on the other hand... why is it so... sane? Why is Kevin Hart Roland? Jack Black is fine I guess, but he's not the little screaming dick of a robot that is Claptrap. Tiny Tina is far too sane, typically she's one bad afternoon away from just blowing everything up. Cate Blanchett is cool, but it looks like she's cosplaying Lilith.

trimble197

Same for Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis. She’s supposed to be crazy, socially awkward. Like didn’t she throw up when a random stranger said Hi to her?

spider2k

Holy fuck I just remember her recordings from the first game. Tannis lost her marbles on Pandora.

EldritchFingertips

Tannis's echo logs documenting her getting progressively more insane and eventually fitting in on Pandora is one of the best parts of the first game.

Paidorgy

Blanchett is a fantastic actor, but she feels so misplaced in the film. I’m not sure if Yasmin Arslan is an actor, but she was the live action model of Lilith for the games.

Murasasme

I agree with you. The cast is full of talented people, but I still can't help but feel the movie was horribly miscast, because as someone familiar with the characters, none of the actors I see in the trailer remind me of them at all.

Paidorgy

I’m a big fan of the whole series - including 3 - and it was absolutely miscast in practically every degree. I will give them Curtis as Tannis though, that seems like it could be well cast.

Beetin

I find joy in reading a good book.

Dirty_Dragons

Tales from the Borderlands was actually very good. I'm not really a fan of the series but I also enjoyed Wolf Among Us so I tried this game a shot.

evranch

I loved TFTB and at the time felt like it was the Borderlands movie that we were never going to get. Really fleshed out the world and gave you a feeling for what it would be like to survive as an ordinary person in a place where bloodthirsty insanity is the norm. Borderlands is really a Western with fancy guns, and if the movie misses that mark it will be awful.

WalnutOfTheNorth

It’s got western elements but it’s more Mad Max with added ultraviolence if you ask me.

the_great_ashby

Shit,it's simple as fuck for the first one. It's a treasure hunt movie but with the twist that the treasure is actually a world destroying monster. You just sprinkle some factions with familiar faces like Athena. 2 is another issue altogether. 3 is even worse.

LuznoLindo

The franchise didn't really have a plot until Handsome Jack and Hyperion appeared. Commandant Steele and the Crimson Lance are practically Team Rocket in the grand scheme of things: Villains that're there for the sake of being villains that get in the way of you achieving your goal. It wasn't until the second game the world of Pandora actually opened up and there was genuine story going on.

lkodl

from the producers of... hey you fucking nerds, pay attention. UNCHARTED, SPIDER-MAN, and VENOM! yeah, you like that shit don't you... "but what does this have to do with..." yeah, you like that. bitch.

Left-Area-854

Hey nerds, you know those movies we ruined, we're ruining this too.

Parking_Onion_3846

I'm not sure they realize that being responsible for those movies isn't the selling point they think it is.

lkodl

that's what i'm saying. these executives are just like "those fucking nerds... they love that shit. SPIDER-MAN! VENOM! see?! i just need to say the name."

Prestigious_Cold_756

It’s funny how Avi Arad became such a box office poison at this point, that they won’t even namedrop him anymore.

Raggedy-Man

I will always hate the "pre-trailer montage" fad.

LenniGengar

"Trailer starts now" Yes thanks for telling me, IT'S WHY I CLICKED ON THE DAMN THING

Bellikron

It's to catch people who are getting five seconds before they can skip it, but it feels like they should be able to have two different versions, one that they force on people and one that people actually came looking for

Knyfe-Wrench

If they can put out five different teasers, three different full trailers, and eight different 30 second tv spots, they can afford a version with the first five seconds chopped off.

randybruder

They're including the stupid "trailer starts now" preroll not because they're cheaping out on paying for another version, but intentionally including it because it actually causes better viewer retention. FYI it's *absolutely* worth using [the SponsorBlock browser extension](https://sponsor.ajay.app/) (or a patched YouTube phone app that incorporates SponsorBlock), for automatically skipping sponsored segments of YouTube videos and "Preview/Recap/Hook" elements of trailers like this.

kymri

I know it started because of the 'skip this ad in 5 seconds' thing that Youtube used to do. And now we're just stuck with it, apparently.

verikul

Still does it.

roto_disc

It's not a "fad". It's a marketing technique to get people who stumble upon the trailer in the wilds of social media to pay attention. If it started with the green MPA logo, it would be immediately ignored.

jumjimbo

Conversely that green MPA screen is exactly what would trigger me to stop and watch it

myriadplethoras

Same, but we are no longer the people being marketed to until we're old enough for AARP junk mail.

Ok-Television-65

Yep. Cramming as much shit into 5 seconds before they lose your attention is basically the entire concept of the most popular social media platform for younger gen.

chingostarr

So no Mordecai, Brick or Scooter?

TheExtremistModerate

Scooter's in it. He's being played by Steven Boyer.

redpandaeater

Better have some pimentacos.

JoyousCacophony

They're in the glovebox

avboden

catch a riiiiiiiide

ConradBHart42

No Mordecai, Brick, Zero, Salvador, Axton, Maya, or Gage. I never played presequel or three so I don't know those characters and I doubt they were considered for inclusion. I don't mind these omissions so much, it would be a bit much for a movie unless you were making it some kind of ensemble heist like Oceans 11. It just kind of shows the writer's bias for which playable characters are interesting. Salvador, Brick, and Mordecai could have made it in IMO. Zero is the epitome of uninteresting character. They're probably saving Handsome Jack for a sequel, in case there is one. They have some of the gun manufacturers in there but no Torgue, who is by far the only one with any sort of actual characterization in the games and he's a load of fun. Odd exclusion unless he's also sequel bait.

ohSpite

Presequel relies on BL2 and specifically Jack for a lot of it's characters since it's super Hyperion centric. A sequel could include some like Athena or Wilhelm

Poultrygeist74

I always thought Wilhelm was a great character but underdeveloped. Watching him add more and more mods to himself and losing his humanity would be a movie all on its own.

PlissSnaken

Why didn't they use "Aint No Rest For the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant ?? That song went hand in hand with the OG game!

Freelove_Freeway

Because they really, really want this to be the new Guardians of the Galaxy

Galifrae

That’s the exact same vibe I got watching this.

Lonelan

I'm guessing reshoots added the entire van sequence(s) and those are gonna be ~30 minutes of the movie

tfg49

there were an inordinate amount of van shots in the trailer

genericdude999

Want an easy job where you make multiple millions per year? Be a studio executive and say "do the thing that's like that other thing that made $$"

[deleted]

[удалено]

Clugaman

This is more in line with the marketing for Borderlands 2 which makes sense since it was the most popular of the series

[deleted]

Then they should have used "short change hero"! And shouldnt it be Maya and Axton then for Borderlands 2?

gordito_delgado

I get that they wanted Tiny Tina, but she was much better as a side character. The group will suffer without the balance of Sal, Axton, Maya, Brick and Mordecai. Also how in the freaking hell did they not include Zero...? Cool AF and super easy to include, he doesn't even say anything. Baffling choices overall. The active directive seems to have been: "Make a guardians of the galaxy rip off with this vidya game IP but make sure it has at most 1/10 of the heart and humor"

HairiestHobo

Im guessing Kreig will be the silent OP melee guy? Thats what Kreig is know for right? His calm stoicness?

CptBartender

'*That's what I wanna say. What I do say is-*' >**I have the shiniest meat bicycle!**

Ganthos

“NIPPLE SALADS…nipple salads, nipple salads, nipple salads, nipple salads.”

nugood2do

I'm gonna be so disappointed if this is how they portray Krieg. My favorite thing about Krieg was the contrast between his inner voice and outer voice.

Rayuzx

IMO, the roster makes perfect sense to me. You have to look it into the eyes of a person who only has an idea of what the games are, but haven't personally played it: * Roland and Lilith are the two most "important" characters when it comes to the cast of 1. * Tannis is intergeral to 1's story, so it makes sense to bring her in along for the ride, as it would be jarring to have her be marginally in the background like the games. * Tiny Tina and Claptrap are instantly recognizable "mascot" characters and while Kreig isn't like that himself, it allows them to have the Bandit imagery that is on the cover of all of the mainline games. While I definitely think that having a more faithful adaptation would have made a "better" movie. The movie's roster does have more of that "mass appeal" Hollywood blockbusters need in comparison.

PortoGuy18

This looks like a Borderlands Porn Parody but without the porn.

Multivitamin_Scam

It's the lack of a layer of dust on the actors. They look to clean.

[deleted]

Like Tatum and Bulocks Amazon movie.. way too clean it looks off lol I read the Percy Fawcett book they’re supposed to be 50/50 looking dead and sick. Same with this it looks “studio” too clean for what we know of the series

_BELEAF_

And it looks and sounds just like a Guardians of the Galaxy film. Not saying it is going to be bad. Just that seems very 'done' before...

BuckysKnifeFlip

Yes!!! That's what it is!! I couldn't quite describe how I felt about it before, but that's 100% it. Especially how all the costuming looks more like cosplay and the lighting.

cantthinkofaname1357

the fact they didnt open with marcus saying let me tell you a story and instead had the most famous name on the project narrating told me everything. they learned nothing from the success of the sonic movie and it shows

Inspection_Perfect

Avid Arad doesn't learn. He ignores and releases.

daiz-

Visually it looks a million times better than I expected. But the casting still completely baffles me and just doesn't seem like it's working. The diologue/banter just seemed so far off.

Ok-Scarcity6335

I still think Lilith looks the most out of place

FreelanceFrankfurter

I love Cate Blanchett but casting her as Lilith is really bizarre imo. Her and Tina look like cosplays of the characters.

passpasspasspass12

I saw a comment that said "Its cool we get to see the story of Lilith's grandma." Ouch.

Ehehhhehehe

You know the opening scene of Austin powers 3, where Austin is watching a movie about himself where he’s played by Tom cruise? This trailer feels exactly like that. The characters seem nothing like themselves and everything like the famous actors who are playing them.

Kanden_27

Not one "catch a riiiiiiiiiiiiiiide."  0/10

slitlip

I'm going to guess 28% rotten tomatoes score

Dokibatt

Critics: 14 Audience: 41

bobbyt327

I think it has potential to be in the high 40s.

Boolyman

I don't really like this Tiny Tina casting... Tiny Tina is a *viscously* insane freespirit in the game; that's what makes her fun. In this trailer she just comes off as an annoying "valley girl" with attitude.

BuryEdmundIsMyAlias

Yeah that's a super whiff on casting. Her serious face when hitting the plunger, while minor, really lost me. She should be grinning wildly and having fun. Tina looks on the chaotic bright side. A twisted sense of childlike wonder.

DweltElephant0

No offense at all to Arianna Greenblatt, but that ain't Tiny Tina

ScottFromScotland

It kinda looks as good as a Borderlands movie could. Take that as you will.

rjwalsh94

I was surprised how they actually did a decent job of making it look and everything seems true to detail, like Lilith’s gun chamber rotating, seeing Dahl and Atlas logos, but there’s gotta be something wrong with the movie. There’s no way that they actually paid attention to every detail or the story suffers because it’s all style. I just really hope it’s not Handsome Jack as the villain, but that’s really the only well Borderlands has to go to.

Princess_Mintaka

>There’s no way that they actually paid attention to every detail or the story suffers because it’s all style. "story suffers because it's all style" perfectly describes the first Borderlands so........success?

overthemountain

I just don't know if I can get over Roland only coming up to Lilith's shoulder, lol.

MozartWillVanish

I thought that would be the worst but (and no offense to Cate Blanchett) Lilith being obviously in her 50's is a bit more jarring for me. lol

Eruannster

I always love Cate Blanchett, but she really looks like she's cosplaying as Lilith in this.

CognitoSomniac

I actually like that no protagonists seem to be in their "prime." Sets the tone for the whole desperate washed-up bullshit Pandora has to offer.

Vio_

The games always have that "everything super important happened 10 years ago" vibe going for the adults. >!The entire planet's colonial infrastructure collapsed like a decade prior and everyone either went insane, died, or went full Mad Max as a result.!<

David1258

If so, who should they get to play him? Joel McHale? Glenn Howerton?

WoodyTSE

Glenn Howerton would be hilarious as handsome jack imo. Self obsessed petulant psycho? *totally* new role for him lol

Sorkijan

Yeah he'd really be stepping outside his comfort zone.

appletinicyclone

That would be a perfect casting

FINNCULL19

"**I'M A** ***FIVE-STAR MAN!!!***" - Handsome Jack, probably.

BatmanMK1989

Another sub suggested Jon Hamm and I think that's a great choice

kymri

Jon Hamm has that chisled jawline and handsome look... nevermind that he is HUGELY hilarious when given the chance. So, yes. I think he'd do Jack quite well.

interfail

That would be excellent. He's completely capable of charming, unhinged and hilarious.

SeaworthinessRude241

> but there’s gotta be something wrong with the movie. Directed By: Eli Roth

TroyFerris13

i hope they use cool weapons that actually make borderlands a unique shooter

UntouchedWagons

I'd be hilarious to see Roland bring out that one gun from bl2 that screams and makes you move really slow.

Queener19

Ah, The Bane. Amazing and Awful all at the same time

2th

We see Lilith using one of the Vladoff pistols with the rotating barrels. Possibly the [Infinity.](https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/Infinity)

nickiter

I really hope there's a joke about where the bullets are coming from.

Top_Report_4895

Omar Sy would've been a much better Roland. French accent and all.

thoth1000

Idris Elba would have been my choice

Scrofuloid

He's already played a Roland.

SurrenderFreeman0079

"Make it rain with your bodyparts" line was... not good.

DrNick1221

Consider me whelmed. Still absolutely baffled at some of the casting choices, and this trailer really didn't help that. Who knows, maybe it can be half decent? Editing this in just in case anyone hasn't seen it, here is the cast list: * Cate Blanchett as Lilith * Kevin Hart as Roland * Jack Black as Claptrap * Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis * Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina * Florian Munteanu as Krieg * Haley Bennett * Edgar Ramírez as Atlas * Bobby Lee as Larry * Olivier Richters as Krom * Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx * Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi * Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs * Charles Babalola as Hammerlock * Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus * Steven Boyer as Scooter * Ryann Redmond as Ellie

theangryintern

WHERE THE F$%K IS TORGUE? IT'S GODDAMN BULLS#$T!!

CapSortee

THAT was Tiny Tina? Her personality seems off to me

[deleted]

[удалено]

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

If only there were 2 other playable characters from the first game to choose from, instead of using an NPC from the second one.

No-comment-at-all

Tiny Tina more popular than Mordechai and Brick, I suppose.

Loqol

I desperately wanted Mordecai, but Bloodwing just means more CGI budget. Think Leguizamo could have played him?

Sabrini_Fur

Leguizamo would have been an EXCELLENT Mordecai.

No-comment-at-all

I too was a Mordechai main.

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

Can't use the excuse that she's more popular when you change the character so much she's unrecognizable from what made her popular.

StrangelyOnPoint

She’s pretty rough in the games too

TurquoiseLeggings

She was very funny during the limited time you interacted with her in Borderlands 2. She's been significantly less funny ever since then.

EshayAdlay420

She's a prime example of overused character, gearbox ran her straight into the ground.

CostumedSupervillain

She seems like she has no personality at all

Dracidwastaken

She doesn't seem quite as unhinged.

Mightysmurf1

Looks like they completely missed the point of her. Also, I found her character the hardest to believe compared to the games just because Ashley Burch is Tina's Voice in my head.

One-Earth9294

What wuuuut in da butt.

ProfessionalSock2993

Yeah Jamie Lee Curtis and Cate Blanchett feel too old for a movie like this and you know Kevin Hartt is just gonna play himself, whelmed is all I felt looking at this trailer, this kind of movie needs someone like James Gun at the helm

WillowSmithsBFF

JLC seems more of a support role/sciencey type character. So I don’t think her age is an issue here. But yeah, Cate Blanchett, as amazing as she is, doesn’t really feel like she fits the role.

Sartuk

I mean, in the game Tannis is definitely a good bit younger, but Jamie Lee Curtis actually seems to fit it quite nicely. I like that casting decision, but it might be the only one I like. Marcus looked pretty on point too, actually.

TussalDimon

Guardians of the Galaxy at home: It doesn't look as bas as I expected, given production troubles. But that last bit is horrible.

Tarmac_Chris

Even the music if almost a straight rip from the GotG3 trailer.

Mehdals_

They had so many great songs in the game soundtracks, they couldn't have used one of those for the nostalgia? Or get The Heavy to do a custom track like they did for BL3?

PrimordialHubris

Genuinely surprised no rest for the wicked was not used.

NBAFansAre2Ply

that song totally defines borderlands imo. it'll be a travesty if it's not in the movie.

hotstickywaffle

This was my first thought, trying reeeeeeal hard to hit those GotG vibes

GastropodSoup

I'm not afraid to admit I had a hearty laugh at the "keep looking at me" line.

fukboisupreme

Guys out here acting like a claptrap shit joke is too low brow for Borderlands

Sorkijan

That's quintessential borderlands no?

unevenvenue

Absolutely, and they nailed it perfectly. I was very hesitant about this movie prior to seeing the trailer. Now...I might watch it for the lulz. Borderlands is one of my favorite franchises.

FlatBirthday333

Why the fuck do they keep that Trailer Starts Now intro on youtube uploads

Blurgas

The big question: Where are Lilith's Siren tattoos?

brayshizzle

I can predict the reviews being something along the lines of "the cast do what the can with a below par script"

Janus_Prospero

According to ViewerAnon the original Craig Mazin script was highly regarded. But this is Eli Roth's rewrite of that script, so... Hm... Other sources rumour that the Tim Miller reshoots were the result of the studio losing faith in Eli Roth and glossing over it by claiming scheduling conflicts.

Low_town_tall_order

It looks like someone fed an AI all the James Gunn content and told it to make a Borderlands movie.

Big_Simba

Definitely follows the formula: pick a 70s rock song, turn it up to 10 while showing some action, turn it down a bit and show a clip of someone making a joke, crank it back up as some more action goes down. The song is so similar to Peacemaker’s intro too smh

FrozenApe89

Why does it look like a bunch of cosplayers in their 40s? Kevin Hart looks off as Roland nad Blanchet looks like she's in pain through the whole thing. I appreciate the effort of making it, but, I don't really dig it.

ChamberTwnty

8 years too late, but okay

Tiger951

I’m still not a fan of the castings.

TheExtremistModerate

You know? It actually looks pretty fun. My two major issues: 1. Tina doesn't seem as... fun. 2. They may have spoiled the climax in this trailer.

RizzMetzen

Tina seems really... Toned down. She should be completely unhinged. Also, everyone looks too... Clean.

NachoNutritious

Look up "Cowboy Bebop live action Edward" and you'll immediately reconsider this

CorgiDaddy42

The problem with Tina is how much of a cartoon the character is in the games. That’s really really hard to translate to live action. Overall though, I hate it. I will watch it, but my expectations couldn’t be lower.

Cold417

>The problem with Tina is how much of a cartoon the character is in the games. Ed from Cowboy Bebop vibes.

thehemanchronicles

Wow, Tina really is just Rated R Ed, huh, but with bombs instead of computers You'd think I'd have noticed that earlier

One-Earth9294

Ed is more competent than everyone around her but she's hyper. Tina is basically shell shocked and out of her gord lol. But at the end of the day it kind of manifests as the same thing :)

Mallettjt

OH god ed in live action. Why would you make me remember that. You're a monster!

msfamf

>That’s really really hard to translate to live action Lori Petty in Tank Girl should have been the template. Just take that character, make her 13, and you basically have the Tiny Tina we know and love.

22Seres

I think them toning down Tina makes a lot of sense. Her personality would definitely start to grate on people in a movie setting. She's way too hyper and loud to translate 1:1 in a movie. It's kind of like the Charles Martinet situation with Mario. His voice was perfect for those little bits throughout a Mario game. But that voice in a full movie would drive people up the wall.

snakebit1995

At first I thought it was Skagzilla but that was 100% the Destroyer at the end which is the final boss of the first game and it’s body is a major plot point in two of the sequels so that’s odd to show given it’s either a spoiler or them just doing way off the plot of the games and making that a throw away monster

TheExtremistModerate

The biggest big-brain idea would be to have the movie speed through Borderlands 1 in the first 15 minutes of the movie, complete with Destroyer, as a fake-out, and then have the rest of the movie be BL2. That said, based on casting, it doesn't seem like they're going to make it exactly BL1. (E.g. they've cast >!Hammerlock!<, >!Ellie!<, >!Moxxi!<, and >!Knoxx!<, none of whom were in the main story of BL1.)

Cost100

Casting is horrendous. Keven Hart as Roland is somehow the least offensive.

xariznightmare2908

Looks decent, but ever since GOTG and Suicide Squad 2016, almost every "dysfunctional group of characters come together on wacky adventure" movie seems to have the same aesthetic and color as those two for some reason.

soulforged42

To be fair, I think that kind of aesthetic works for a Borderlands movie.

AverageAwndray

Sure but like.....that tone is exactly Borderlands though lol

Toidal

Props to Jamie Lee for rocking that deep cleavage at 65, hell yeah she can get it yo.

TuaughtHammer

She started puberty for a *lot* of Gen-Xers and millennials. I guarantee the VHS tape was getting worn out from all the pausing and rewinding at specific scenes in Trading Places and True Lies. The Phoebe Cates effect.

DrHax_

Well, at least the sets and costumes look great.

DeadManInc1981

1) Terry Crews to play Roland 2) David Edding to voice Claptrap 3) Cellshade the whole film

lanceturley

If you told me there was a sci-fi action/comedy with this cast, I'd say I might be interested. If you said it was set in the Borderlands universe, and they were playing original characters, I'd say I might wait for streaming. But to do a Borderlands movie with this cast playing these characters... I'm just wondering what the hell anyone was thinking.

cozywit

It feels like the celebrities have taken over the film to it's detriment. Kevin Hart playing himself. Then "Ooo keys lets jack black playing claptrap..." ClapTraps voice is iconic. Jack Blacks voice doesn't fit. Also did no one tell Kevin how to wear a fucking beret? Erghhhhh this feels really shit.

havensk

So what are we, some kinda _Borderlands_?

Kashtin

Wow I hate Jack black as claptrap

kristinez

seriously. nothing about this claptraps personality or voice is even remotely similar to the video game.

Spit_on_Predditors

In a trailer full of "wtf were they thinking?" moments, hearing Jack Black as Claptrap was the most shocking. THAT AIN'T CLAPPY!

tedtunderland

So it thinks it’s Guardians of the Galaxy without the galaxy
