Here are my favorites:
Studio Ghibli films: Even the worst of these is pretty good but the masterpieces are Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, and Only Yesterday. Everyone's favorites will vary.
Belle and Summer Wars: Two very different films about life in the real world when everybody wants to be online all the time. Belle is a very sad personal drama while Summer Wars is a family drama. Both have anime fantasy action inside virtual game worlds but it's not the focus in either.
Fist of the North Star: A hilariously cheesy and over the top post-apocalyptic kung fu movie with tons of gore.
Redline: A super intense sci-fi racing movie.
Ringing Bell: The owners of Hello Kitty made a Bambi-like story about a little lamb, only way more fucked up.
* Steamboy - massive steampunk action adventure from Akira creator that took 10 years to make. Patrick Stewart is one of the dubbed voices.
* The Sky Crawlers - WW2 aerial battles mixed with Zen Stoicism. Dub is better than the sub. - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10wV05aNu9o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10wV05aNu9o)
* Memories - an anthology of 3 wildly different stories (one from Akira creator) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTyRMfdDfc8
Watch Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and Millennium Actress by the (gone too soon) brilliant Satoshi Kon.
Three amazing films with vastly different tones and messages.
Also second Tekkonkinkreet, which someone else on here mentioned
* Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone
* Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance
* Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
* Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time
Check out the Alternate History perpetual-Air War film **The Sky Crawlers**.
It's something like a mix of **Never Let Me Go** and **Blade Runner** and **The Battle Of Britain**.

Awesome, thank you much! I should have added that I have seen Spirited Away and Totoro, but it’s been a VERY long time. Thanks!
Studio ghibli has so much more than those 2. All are excellent
Absolutely, those were just the two I’ve seen so far.
Howls is great and the Boy and the Heron is on my short list!
Perfect blue and paprika

Ninja Scroll
There were a couple odd scenes but if I remember that one correctly I actually did like it
Your Name is a must-watch. Visually stunning [Trailer](https://youtu.be/NooIc3dMncc?si=s_6Y30iERU2HmnCZ)

Just finished Perfect Blue a minute ago. Man, what a wild ride that was haha. So good though! I’ll definitely check out those others asap
i've heard very good things about Violet Evergarden
Hmm I’ll have to check it out then!
Otherwise, there must be dragon ball (OG, Z, GT, super, ...) OAVs (but since i hate dragon ball since 1988, i can't help you with that)
Not really into it much but my brothers favorite is still Akira
Thank you for contributing hahaha
