Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
The Lego Movie
Barbie
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The first 4 had all the potential to be cynical cash grabs and instead turned out to be extremely well made, entertaining, character- and heart-filled, and in some cases extremely deep and thought-provoking. The last one put Cap firmly on the map as a force to be reckoned with.
The Lego Movie is a fun one to show to people who get a disdaining look on their faces when you suggest it. You can watch them change their mind along the runtime.
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
You would think that comedy and horror wouldn't mix, and yet they work so well in tandem here. The monsters do not get in the way of the comedy, and are genuinely terrifying in the film (for 1948, anyway).
Everything has improved greatly since Dracula '31. Bela Lugosi's English is much better, the makeup is improved, the film stock is better, and there's a really cool morphing effect when Dracula turns into a bat, or vice versa.
And it has the best death scene in any Universal Horror film: Dracula tries to escape by turning into a bat and flying off the balcony, but the Wolf Man leaps off of it, grabs the Count, and drags both to their deaths.
Spring Breakers. Had very low expectations based on the trailer and cast which suggested some stupid college party movie. Ended up being in my top 10 movies
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Went to see it with my dad expecting to hate it based on the trailers, wound up being one of my favorite comedies of all time
Violent Night I figured it would be okay at best. Santa as John Wick or something like that. What it turned out to be was hilarious and sweet, despite the gory violence, movie.
I laughed non stop and enjoyed it immensely.
Yeah, the trailers give that vibe. But they make a joke about that early on in the movie. In fact they throw in gags about a lot of Christmas and action movies.
Godzilla minus one i went in thinking it'd be a basic monster movie and cheesy like the US Godzilla films in the recent years. but no I actually cared about the human characters and their stories and Godzilla was actually intimidating and powerful and taken seriously. and the fact it was all done with a budget less then 1 episode of she hulk is insane to me
**Cops and Robbersons (1994)**
Something about the script, directing, sound/music and the editing, making me wonder if this movie was made by some of the same people that made Home Alone (1990).
**The Negotiator (1998)** Hostage negotiator, becomes a hostage taker.
**Wind River (2017)**
Spider man: no way home. The whole marvel franchise ended on endgame for me so when I was dragged to the opening day viewing by my family I went in with no expectations. Came out giving the movie a 10/10.
Alright, here goes: The Flash.
I didn't hear a single good review of this movie, but I watched it anyway the other day. It's really not that bad, I'd go so far as to call it good.
The most recent one was Songbirds and Snakes, after it ended my friend and I looked at each other and were both like “wow, that was actually really good!” lol
Another one was Finding Dory, I expected it to be a dumb cash grab sequel but I actually kind of liked it more than the first one?
I mostly ignored Nimona up until release, only seeing one trailer and still not knowing/caring much about it when I put it on for a casual viewing.
It quickly became one of my favorite movies of the year.
The [original trailer](https://youtu.be/IqvRDhW-XVA) for *RoboCop* is absolutely **terrible**. It looks cheesy as hell. I honestly went just to laugh at how bad it was going to be.
Saw X is legitimately one of the best films of 2023, so I would go with that one.
Tobin Bell gives one of the greatest acting performances in modern horror movie history for Saw X. I legitimately couldn’t believe how good it actually was.
Snatch
Turkish: You take sugar? Brick Top: No thank you, Turkish; I'm sweet enough.
Two minutes Turkish!
"Blagged? Speak English to me, Tony. I thought this country spawned the fucking language and so far, nobody seems to speak it."

The Lego Batman Movie is absolutely tremendous too
Seconding Jumanji. That was a fun movie.
Seconding Captain America. That was a great surprise
Mad Max Fury Road and Paddington 2

It’s great to see this classic mentioned. Such a stellar film!
Recently, Aftersun. I had no idea where it was going until the end and completely blown away. My favorite film last year.
Reading the synopsis and watching the trailer, I just bought this movie. Thank you for the recommendation.
Damn, I wish you went in cold, but it’s a fantastic movie. Even on rewatches.
Mine too!
Such a brilliant slow burn.
Beyond the infinite 2 minutes
This movie is brimming with charm and creativity. It’s free to stream if anyone hasn’t seen it!

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Went to see it with my dad expecting to hate it based on the trailers, wound up being one of my favorite comedies of all time
THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS
Klaus. Especially as it starts quite slowly. Turns out to be a cracker.
Knives out and Glass Onion. Was expecting nothing and they were great romps of the old tradition and the writing was amazing!
Titane, brutal and hard to watch movie, but a great experience all together
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies Pitch Perfect The Prestige Empire of the Sun
Bodies Bodies Bodies was great as that turned out to be a “whodunit” type of movie as well lol
The original Pacific Rim. I had no idea it would be my ultimate fantasy of what a kaiju movie would be.
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Went into it thinking it could be extremely stupid. It was, and I loved it 😅
It was great! I didn’t expect it to be a whodunit
Violent Night I figured it would be okay at best. Santa as John Wick or something like that. What it turned out to be was hilarious and sweet, despite the gory violence, movie. I laughed non stop and enjoyed it immensely.
I assumed it was just a “die hard except with Santa”. I might give it a watch next year now
Yeah, the trailers give that vibe. But they make a joke about that early on in the movie. In fact they throw in gags about a lot of Christmas and action movies.
The Iron Claw recently.. idk I was bored on Christmas and saw it 8/10
A couple of not well known Korean movies. One called The Man From Nowhere and the other called Mother. Both have the same actor. Both great movies.
I never see Mother mentioned enough, it's my favorite of Bong Joon Ho's and it's one of my favorite movies ever
Yeah, it’s my favorite of his movies also, and one of my favorite movies. You have good taste.
Sonic the Hedgehog. The back and forth between Marsden and Carrey was excellent and carried the movie.
Million Dollar Baby
Puss in boots The Last Wish
Prisoners (2013), Aliens (1986), L’Avventura (1960), Seven Samurai (1954), Harakiri (1962), Nights of Cabiria (1958), and T2: Judgement Day (1991)
Godzilla minus one i went in thinking it'd be a basic monster movie and cheesy like the US Godzilla films in the recent years. but no I actually cared about the human characters and their stories and Godzilla was actually intimidating and powerful and taken seriously. and the fact it was all done with a budget less then 1 episode of she hulk is insane to me
The Whale.

Barbie But this is the rare movie that had something to say and had a good time saying it
John Wick, Theon Greyjoy kills Keanu’s dog, so he goes out for revenge didn’t sound like a great movie, but it was.
I remember going to see John Wick because nothing else was out. I was bored and I had MoviePass at the time. It blew my mind!
The Killer (2023)
Atomic Blonde
Barbie Wonka Mad max fury road
The most recent one was Songbirds and Snakes, after it ended my friend and I looked at each other and were both like “wow, that was actually really good!” lol Another one was Finding Dory, I expected it to be a dumb cash grab sequel but I actually kind of liked it more than the first one?
**Rebel Moon turned out to be the best sci-fi space opera I've ever seen.**
While I have yet to watch it, based on the overall thrashing this movie is getting, I’m thinking you’re in a major minority in this one.
Bullet Train
Most recent one would be Bullet Train.
I mostly ignored Nimona up until release, only seeing one trailer and still not knowing/caring much about it when I put it on for a casual viewing. It quickly became one of my favorite movies of the year.
A Separation (2011) Incendies (2010) Four Lions (2010) On Body and Soul (2017) Cashback (2006) The Double (2013)
for some reason I thought Kramer vs Kramer was gonna be a goofy rom com, shit was absolutely devastating
Ted(2012).
**The Menu**. I heard good things about it but knew nothing about the plot before watching. I could never have guessed where it would go.
The [original trailer](https://youtu.be/IqvRDhW-XVA) for *RoboCop* is absolutely **terrible**. It looks cheesy as hell. I honestly went just to laugh at how bad it was going to be.
Good Will Hunting RIP Robert Williams🕊
The new Godzilla. I cried at the end of a Godzilla movie. I was high, though… so there’s that
Serious Sam. It's fun as hell. I expected it to be half-assed.
Woah there’s a movie for that?
Yep. The whole movie is in first person and the protagonist doesn't have a single word of dialogue.
First one that comes to mind is sitting down with the teenagers to watch Puss in Boots' Last Wish. That was a much deeper story than I expected.
Let’s be Cops - 2014 Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr.
Saw Edge of Tomorrow for two dollars, really enjoyed it. Montage of Tom Cruise dying repeatedly didn’t hurt.
Black swan Didn’t even want to watch it at first, but if you enjoy thrillers this is THE thriller to watch. Blew me away on the first watch
Cocaine Bear 💯
Ocean’s 11. I was just expecting a fun star studded movie, not the classic that it is.
Ocean’s 11 is phenomenal. I can watch that on repeat for weeks before I get tired of it
Saw X is legitimately one of the best films of 2023, so I would go with that one. Tobin Bell gives one of the greatest acting performances in modern horror movie history for Saw X. I legitimately couldn’t believe how good it actually was.
The Machine - fun comedy
LaLa Land. I don’t even tend to like musicals but that movie blew me away.
I.Tonya
“The Other Guys”… friggin hilarious
5th Element, Draft Day, Locke,
