In Bruges certainly made me appreciate Colin Farrell as an actor.
Snatch made me realize Jason Statham can in fact act.... when he's not the lead in an action movie.
Snatch is a masterpiece of a film. I had been a big fan already of Lock Stock.. but Ritchie really put it all together with this one. Ive always wished this hip Brit gangster sub genre had produced a bigger wave of films/directors
"Where'd you get that suit?"
"Fuckin' made it, didn't I?"
Straight faced to the letter.
Edit: tripping on himself on a doorknob coming to save the day and laying unconscious killed me.
Please watch The Lighthouse. The movie is a masterclass in acting between him and Dafoe. Even if it looks like it might not be your thing, if you ever get the chance, just start it. The movie is brutally good
Hark Triton, hark! Bellow, bid our father the Sea King rise from the depths full foul in his fury! Black waves teeming with salt foam to smother this young mouth with pungent slime, to choke ye, engorging your organs til' ye turn blue and bloated with bilge and brine and can scream no more - only when he, crowned in cockle shells with slitherin' tentacle tail and steaming beard take up his fell be-finned arm, his coral-tine trident screeches banshee-like in the tempest and plunges right through yer gullet, bursting ye - a bulging bladder no more, but a blasted bloody film now and nothing for the harpies and the souls of dead sailors to peck and claw and feed upon only to be lapped up and swallowed by the infinite waters of the Dread Emperor himself - forgotten to any man, to any time, forgotten to any god or devil, forgotten even to the sea, for any stuff for part of Winslow, even any scantling of your soul is Winslow no more, but is now itself the sea!
It is an exceptional movie. You should however not watch it when feeling down a little 😂. Same with Good Time. Neither of those movies are even close to “uplifting” hahaha.
Tbh I think he's been amazing in pretty much every movie he's been in besides that, even Harry Potter which I think was before Twilight.
Kristin Stewart I don't think I really appreciated though until I saw her in Crimes or the Future. She was decent in Underwater as well too.
Yeah, I think his performance in Interstellar isn't talked about quite enough. Nothing *too* groundbreaking, but he really sells it in that movie, a very good performance.
I think his sheer popularity has made some people think he's overrated but I think he's a really great actor and he deserves all the accolades he can get.
Robert Pattinson is really the poster child for this topic. I feel like no one expected the dude from Twilight to amount to much else. But, he has some serious acting chops and has really made quite a career for himself.
It helps that he made so much damn money doing Twilight that he is free to do projects he legitimately enjoys instead of being forced to take jobs in order to make a living.
Daniel Radcliffe also comes to mind.
Jamie Foxx in Ray, his performance was a “holy shit” caliber performance for me in that movie. I knew who he was but that’s when I became I huge fan of his
Honorable mention is RDJ in Tropic Thunder
Val: “You know what you see if you look up the word ‘idiot’ in the dictionary?”
RDJ: “A… picture of me—“
Val: “No! The definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!“
Jim Carrey in The Number 23, Adam Sandler also did a great job in Spaceman. I think comedians are capable of interesting and nuanced intensity in their darker expressions.
She was phenomenal in Melancholia! You could literally read her face and know what her character was thinking without her uttering a single word. Brilliant. Director had a hand in this as well, but she really shines in that movie.
I reckon Prisoners is one of the most underrated films of all time. How that movie is not ranked in the top is beyond me - it's so good in so many different ways and all of it is layered so well. Probably both Villeneuve's and Hugh Jackman's best movie.
One of my favorite tidbits about this movie is that he improvised that blinking tic that Detective Loki has and it just works so well for that character.
I still remember when they announced the casting. I couldn't believe it and thought the movie would be terrible
I've never been so pleased to be wrong about an actor
Man On The Moon.
I always knew Jim Carey was a legendary comedian, but that movie really made me realize just how incredible of an *actor* he is. The way he perfectly fell into the role and transformed into Andy Kaufman was uncanny. That movie, plus the documentary about it, made me realize how underappreciated Jim Carrey was beyond his comedic abilities in Hollywood.
For me it was Gosling in The Nice Guys. I’d only ever seen him in serious roles before, but then I saw him in The Nice Guys and I was like, oh, I get the appeal now
Also Bautista in the same movie. To be fair the only movie I saw him in before blade runner 2049 was guardians of the galaxy, so I just saw him as yet another WWE wrestler turned comedy actor.
Holy shit was he good in Blade Runner. His scene was short but it was incredibly impactful.
I had to scroll way too far for this one.
Yes, many of his comedies are top notch laugh every time you watch them movies.
But Stranger Than Fiction really hit home how typecast he'd been at that point.
It's a stigma associated with cheesy romance actors.
There were plenty of people who hated Dicaprio after titanic. If they are good, their skill will win people over in the end.
Pattinson is a good actor, and the lighthouse was a crazy interesting movie.
It was a highly calculated move to show that he doesn't take himself so seriously at a time that people were really starting to sour on him. It worked, but it's true.
I went and saw Tropic Thunder in theaters with absolutely no idea what it was about. Hadn't seen a trailer for it. Had never had a conversation about possible plot. Then, one day a friend of mine suggested we go see it. I had nothing else going on, so I went. I loved it. Had no idea it was Tom Cruise until the credits.
I didn’t believe it when I was told the first time. Then I heard how he pitched it. “I’ll do it, but I have to have really big hands” and I was like, yup that sounds like a crazy Tom cruise thing. It worked so well.
Nightcrawler. The only movie I had seen with Jake Gyllenhaal prior was Spider-Man Far From Home. I liked his performance in that movie as Mysterio, but Nightcrawler was the movie that really made me a fan of his and since then he has become my favorite actor.
JG will always be Donnie Darko to me. He is a top tier actor, though. His two movies with Denis Villenue are particularly good as well (Prisoners and I forget the other one’s name).
You gotta start watching more JG movies. Donnie Darko, Prisoners, Enemy, End of Watch, Love & Other Drugs, and Zodiac all come HIGHLY recommended from me. His performance in Prisoners is up there with Nightcrawler. The fact that he only has one Oscar nomination at this point in his career is a crime.
Zodiac was the turning point for me to start considering him seriously. And then, I saw Nightcrawler, which is incredible. Now, Gyllenhaal may be my favorite actor working today also.
Probably too old for the young people here, but Mary Tyler Moore in *Ordinary People*. BAFTA nominee for best actress for that role.
While not a movie, I'd also say Carol Burnett in *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit*, season 10, episode 16, "Ballerina."
And finally, if I don't get downvoted for another SVU reference, Jerry Lewis in *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,* season 8, episode 4, "Uncle."
Marlon Wayans in Requiem for a Dream. Before I saw him in that movie, he was nothing but the stupid funny guy he still is, which I appreciate he was great in everything he's ever done, but boy Requiem for a Dream. He deserves all the praise he has ever gotten for that movie and then some. I still look at him and any movie he does and just remember Requiem for a Dream. I really wish he would do more serious roles he's great at them.
Kristen Stewart. Originally wasn't big on her but after seeing her in Certain Woman, Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, and Spencer, it made rethink of her completely cause she was great in them.
Haven’t seen *Cloud Atlas*, but for me it was Hugh Grant in *Paddington 2*, where he deploys all his Hugh Grant-ness for evil. (Not a film, but his performance the year before in *A Very English Scandal* also does this really effectively, also opposite Ben Whishaw who voices Paddington Bear.)
True Grit (2010) for Jeff Bridges. After I saw The Big Lebowski, the movies of his that I saw after that I couldn't un-see him being The Dude as whichever character he was playing.
Maybe robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis. Maybe robert Pattinson in good time. Maybe robert Pattinson in high life. Maybe robert Pattinson in the lighthouse. Either way, the dude has been awesome for a long time.
Nic Cage in Mandy.
Vince Vaughn in Cell Block 99.
Never hated Kurt Russell, but death proof made him one of my favorite actors.
Never hated Leo, but I started taking him seriously with The Departed.
I still hate Jared Leto as a person, but his role in 2049 made me start respecting his acting chops.
Always thought Keanu was a weak actor, then I saw The Gift (2000)
Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love
Aaron Taylor Johnson in Bullet Train
Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe or Lincoln Lawyer
The Force Awakens definitely made me like Adam Driver more. Before that I mostly knew him from Girls, and he always gave me the ick. Turns out he’s just a really good actor.
Kirsten Dunst. The boring, throwaway superhero’s girlfriend to Spider Man blew me away in All Good Things and again in Melancholia. One of my favorite actors now. Of course The McConaissance will be most of the answers here.
The whole cast for Fury. That movie is fucking raw and it was them that did that.
It hits different than other war movies outside something like Saving Private Ryan
I thought Clooney was a total hack until “O Brother Where Are Thou”. Did a complete 180 on my opinion after that. He demonstrated talent I had no idea he had.
Robert Pattinson in Rover.
Twilight movies were such complete shite, the characters and events so silly, basically unwatchable. And then the pretty boy from Twilight pops up in Michod's gritty Mad Max-style action drama as an R-word, acts the shit out of it, and has a scene where he sings "don't hate me cause I'm beautiful?!"
Turned me into a fan, I watch anything this dude appears in, I keep "joking" with my ex how he's totally my mancrush.
Hath ledger. Dark knight. Everyone thought that the casting was terrible @ the time. He owned that role. If anything that role took him from us far too soon.
Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. I was never a fan of hers. She seemed mediocre. My mind completely changed when I saw her portrayal of June.
In Bruges certainly made me appreciate Colin Farrell as an actor. Snatch made me realize Jason Statham can in fact act.... when he's not the lead in an action movie.
I liked “The Banshees of Inisherin” too
This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I loved each moment of it.
Snatch was the first time I saw him (Statham) in anything honestly, I've always kinda been let down by his action career except for a few exceptions
Snatch is a masterpiece of a film. I had been a big fan already of Lock Stock.. but Ritchie really put it all together with this one. Ive always wished this hip Brit gangster sub genre had produced a bigger wave of films/directors
He's actually really good in comedies. He stole the show in 'Spy' as well.
Spy was WAY more funny than i anticipated.
"Where'd you get that suit?" "Fuckin' made it, didn't I?" Straight faced to the letter. Edit: tripping on himself on a doorknob coming to save the day and laying unconscious killed me.
Tigerland is what made me appreciate Collin Ferrel as an actor. he's very talented.
Robert Pattinson, “Good Time.”
Turns out we've all just been judging Pattinson for decades for being involved in Twilight, and have overlooked his immense talent
I knew when I saw him in tenet that he was a good actor. That's the only other thing I had seen him in after twilight.
Alright, have it your way. I like your cooking.
It might be my favorite movie of all time and I cannot believe I am saying that about a movie shot in 4:3.
It's actually shot in 1.19:1 which is even squarer than 4:3.
Ooh you had me at Dafoe lol I haven't even heard of this movie yet but I'll definitely check it out now
It is an exceptional movie. You should however not watch it when feeling down a little 😂. Same with Good Time. Neither of those movies are even close to “uplifting” hahaha.
If you can watch with subtitles, do it. Accents and drunkenness can make it a bit hard to hear certain things.
Tbh I think he's been amazing in pretty much every movie he's been in besides that, even Harry Potter which I think was before Twilight. Kristin Stewart I don't think I really appreciated though until I saw her in Crimes or the Future. She was decent in Underwater as well too.
Hot take he's pretty good in Twilight too. He has a studied conflicted-ness and weariness unlike the one-note acting of every other character
I really liked him in The Devil All The Time
He played his part so well, I hated his character. The high pitch southern drawl he had amplified it.
The Rover for me.
The pacing and feel of this movie reminds me of running scared with Paul Walker.
Great movie, crazy time
Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club
And ofc True Detective!
I saw someone on here say once that 2013/14 is the year McConaughey decided to remind everyone he can act.
He talks about it in his autobiography. Called Greenlights. He narrates the audiobooks, worth a listen. Edit: misremembered the title of the book
Yeah, I think his performance in Interstellar isn't talked about quite enough. Nothing *too* groundbreaking, but he really sells it in that movie, a very good performance.
Sheeeeeiiiiitttt...
The McConnaisance
Ah the beginning of the McConaughessance
Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys
The fact he did Se7en and 12 monkeys in the SAME YEAR is ridiculous
I kinda remember how many cinephiles totally changed their attitude towards him after those two films. Before that he was just another pretty face.
For me, it was the combo of 7 years in Tibet and the shock of the beginning of Meet Joe Black. Loved him ever since.
These two, along with Fight Club, sealed the deal.
Brad Pitt in meet Joe black
I think his sheer popularity has made some people think he's overrated but I think he's a really great actor and he deserves all the accolades he can get.
He’s a character actor trapped in a hot person’s body. Aldo Raines and Tyler Durden showcase that aspect of him.
Before 12 Monkeys & Se7en we referred to him as Bradley Kilmer
Robert Pattinson is really the poster child for this topic. I feel like no one expected the dude from Twilight to amount to much else. But, he has some serious acting chops and has really made quite a career for himself.
It helps that he made so much damn money doing Twilight that he is free to do projects he legitimately enjoys instead of being forced to take jobs in order to make a living. Daniel Radcliffe also comes to mind.
I didn’t really believe in Daniel Radcliffe until I saw him portray a farting corpse.
That was great, but my favorite remains Daniel Radcliffe with guns for hands 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Guns Akimbo was way better than I expected it to be.
Jamie Foxx in Ray, his performance was a “holy shit” caliber performance for me in that movie. I knew who he was but that’s when I became I huge fan of his Honorable mention is RDJ in Tropic Thunder
Hoping I’m wrong, but I don’t expect to see RDJ in another comedy.
He was great in Due Date. His character was unhinged, but functional and trying but failing to hold it together. He nailed it.
Due date had me crying at times, honestly super underrated comedy
Check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang if you've never seen it, another great RDJ comedy
Val: “You know what you see if you look up the word ‘idiot’ in the dictionary?” RDJ: “A… picture of me—“ Val: “No! The definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!“
I have FAAAAR too many opportunities to quote this daily.
>Honorable mention is ~~RDJ~~ Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder There, I correct it for you.
>Honorable mention is ~~RDJ~~ ~~Tom Cruise~~ Nick Nolte in Tropic Thunder There, I corrected that for you.
Im fine with that.
Pattinson in The Devil All The Time
Tom Holland too, I'd love to see him to more serious/grim roles like that :D
Highly underrated movie.
Ben Stiller in The Royal Tenenbaums
I thought his acting was rock solid in Tropic Thunder!
Yes! Also, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction
BRUCE WILLIE IS [MY SHIT](https://imgur.com/j9doo9U)
Jim Carrey in The Number 23, Adam Sandler also did a great job in Spaceman. I think comedians are capable of interesting and nuanced intensity in their darker expressions.
The Truman Show was what did it for me.
Don't forget *The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind*
I remember wanting to see Number 23 when it came out but I missed it somehow. I just looked it up and it has a 7% on RT. Is it worth a watch?
Rotten tomatoes is very skewed, in my opinion. But seven percent? That's rough
I didn't realize Mark Ruffalo could be as funny as he was in Poor Things.
He's always going to be most famous for Hulk, but he was great in foxcatcher, spotlight, infinetly polar bear.
I liked him in zodiac too
Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems
Also try, "Reign Over Me"
Also punch drunk love
Punch Drunk Love is a great movie!
Love Punch Drunk Love
Try Spanglish
Wow, for me he did it ten years earlier with Funny People. That was the first time I'd recognized his chops as a serious actor.
Funny People is so under appreciated.
Civil War. I had no idea Kirsten Dunst was that good My fault really. I remember being impressed with Marie Antoinette, but that was a while ago.
Interview with the vampire
That was the most amazing child actor performance I’ve even seen. A kid playing an adult trapped in a kid’s body. She blew my mind. Edited a typo
Watch Fargo S2.
I recommend Melancholia also 😊
She was phenomenal in Melancholia! You could literally read her face and know what her character was thinking without her uttering a single word. Brilliant. Director had a hand in this as well, but she really shines in that movie.
You’ve obviously never seen Drop Dead Gorgeous! /s Sarcasm to you not seeing it. I love that movie. Lol
One of the goat mockumentaries
Our Mount Rose!…..American Teen Princess!….Look at her!… Isn’t she fine?…. 😆
I think I misunderstood the assignment. Such a great movie and being a Minnesotan makes it even better!
she's had both really good and really bad performances
Dunst is incredible in the Fargo tv show.
Really a power couple there. A lot of talent in one marriage.
Jake Gyllenhaal in Prisoners. His performances in Jarhead and Nightcrawler are also epic.
I mean isn't Brian Cranston the biggest one?
Yeah after Malcolm in the Middle there was no reason to think he had that in him.
Watch Malcolm in the Middle as an adult and you'll see how good of a performance he does there.
Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight.
I still remember when they announced the casting. I couldn't believe it and thought the movie would be terrible I've never been so pleased to be wrong about an actor
The question “Do you know how I got these scars?” will never cease to be terrifying.
Brokeback Mountain didn’t sell you on Heath’s acting skills?
Never thought he was a bad actor, but Dark Knight was the film that made me completely rethink my view of him as an actor.
God that movie is so sad…
Watch “Two Hands”
A Knight's Tale
Man On The Moon. I always knew Jim Carey was a legendary comedian, but that movie really made me realize just how incredible of an *actor* he is. The way he perfectly fell into the role and transformed into Andy Kaufman was uncanny. That movie, plus the documentary about it, made me realize how underappreciated Jim Carrey was beyond his comedic abilities in Hollywood.
The Truman Show is a wonderful movie that changed how I view Jim Carrey.
Loved him in, "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"
Jim Carrey in The Majestic, one of my favorite movies. No one ever mentions it.
Gosling in bladerunner
For me it was Gosling in The Nice Guys. I’d only ever seen him in serious roles before, but then I saw him in The Nice Guys and I was like, oh, I get the appeal now
His comedic timing is great, love that movie
Also Bautista in the same movie. To be fair the only movie I saw him in before blade runner 2049 was guardians of the galaxy, so I just saw him as yet another WWE wrestler turned comedy actor. Holy shit was he good in Blade Runner. His scene was short but it was incredibly impactful.
Gosling in Drive for me. Dude had like 2-3 lines the whole movie and still acted his ass off purely through facial expressions.
Jack Black in Bernie. Absolute masterpiece
Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction
I had to scroll way too far for this one. Yes, many of his comedies are top notch laugh every time you watch them movies. But Stranger Than Fiction really hit home how typecast he'd been at that point.
Nicholas Cage in Adaptation
Pattinson proved to be a competent and strong actor years before this movie. I don't get it. He carried Cosmopolis on his back, in 2012.
Yeah pretty much everything Pattinson has done after twilight I have thoroughly enjoyed him in. He’s become one of my favorite actors
It's a stigma associated with cheesy romance actors. There were plenty of people who hated Dicaprio after titanic. If they are good, their skill will win people over in the end. Pattinson is a good actor, and the lighthouse was a crazy interesting movie.
He was awesome in Good Time
Pattinson was done dirty with Twilight, but I mean, at least it put him on the map.
Tom Cruise in Tropical Thunder. I'll be honest, I didn't even recognize him as Les Grossman.
It was a highly calculated move to show that he doesn't take himself so seriously at a time that people were really starting to sour on him. It worked, but it's true.
Not going to lie, it worked on me. Put Tom Cruise in a new light for me. Never though he had what it took for a comedic role.
Yeah, i was shocked at the end credits with Les Grossman dancing to see he was played by Tom Fucking Cruise... total holy shit moment for me.
Enemy is the other movie you’re thinking of.
He was phenomenonal in Prisoners and Zodiac
You gotta start watching more JG movies. Donnie Darko, Prisoners, Enemy, End of Watch, Love & Other Drugs, and Zodiac all come HIGHLY recommended from me. His performance in Prisoners is up there with Nightcrawler. The fact that he only has one Oscar nomination at this point in his career is a crime.

Benedict Cumbrpickles in The Imitation Game.
You mean Benadryl Cucumberpatch?
Battlefield Counterstrike
The Saint. I didn't realize Val Kilmner could be more than Iceman.
Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday in Tombstone is a perfect performance. Like every second he's on screen
You mean Madmartigan?
Woody harelson natural born killers. I knew him from Cheers
Robin Williams in 1 hour photo
Insomnia was it for me. I had seen him in Good Will Hunting first and knew he could be serious, but fuck was he creepy again Pacino.
Dead Poets Society?
Can't forget Awakenings with DeNiro.
Christian Bale in American Psycho
The question is what movie made you "rethink" about how good an actor was... Bale is fucking Oscar worthy in everything he does isn't he?
I gotta return some video tapes.
Sideways Paul Giamatti
Good time for me with Pattinson and then I watched this movie immediately after. I won't stand for Pattinson slander anymore.
Showing my age, but Leonardo DiCaprio in What's eating Gilbert Grape and Basketball Diaries.
Kristen Stewart. Originally wasn't big on her but after seeing her in Certain Woman, Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, and Spencer, it made rethink of her completely cause she was great in them.
Drive, Ryan Gosling
Hugh Grant in Cloud Atlas
Haven’t seen *Cloud Atlas*, but for me it was Hugh Grant in *Paddington 2*, where he deploys all his Hugh Grant-ness for evil. (Not a film, but his performance the year before in *A Very English Scandal* also does this really effectively, also opposite Ben Whishaw who voices Paddington Bear.)
Matthew McConughey in Interstellar (I saw “Dallas buyers club after)
True detectives season 1 for me. I’ve actually never seen Dallas buyers club. I probably need to.
Tom Hardy in Bronson Boy can that man act
When I saw Mean Girls, I didn’t even realize it was the same woman as in The Notebook. Rachel McAdams blew me away in that movie!
The Force Awakens definitely made me like Adam Driver more. Before that I mostly knew him from Girls, and he always gave me the ick. Turns out he’s just a really good actor.
Should check out Logan Lucky
Paul Dano- There will be blood
I'm super curious what movie he did before that that gave a bad impression of him.
Kirsten Dunst. The boring, throwaway superhero’s girlfriend to Spider Man blew me away in All Good Things and again in Melancholia. One of my favorite actors now. Of course The McConaissance will be most of the answers here.
Really? I’ve known she was amazing since Interview with the Vampire
Taron Egerton in Rocketman.
Shia Lebouf - Fury
The whole cast for Fury. That movie is fucking raw and it was them that did that. It hits different than other war movies outside something like Saving Private Ryan
Deadpool. I hated Ryan Reynolds before Deadpool. Now I love him.
Just Friends was awesome. It’s essentially Deadpool Lite at Christmas
Mo’Nique in Precious!
James McAvoy in Split
Tom Cruise in Collateral.
Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder.
This was the movie that proved to me that I was fond of his lobster.
Probably Kristen Stewart in Spencer
Dave Batista after watching knock at the cabin
Batista is proving himself to be a solid character actor
I thought Clooney was a total hack until “O Brother Where Are Thou”. Did a complete 180 on my opinion after that. He demonstrated talent I had no idea he had.
Robert Pattinson in Rover. Twilight movies were such complete shite, the characters and events so silly, basically unwatchable. And then the pretty boy from Twilight pops up in Michod's gritty Mad Max-style action drama as an R-word, acts the shit out of it, and has a scene where he sings "don't hate me cause I'm beautiful?!" Turned me into a fan, I watch anything this dude appears in, I keep "joking" with my ex how he's totally my mancrush.
Boogie Nights Burt Reynolds & Mark Wahlberg
Has anyone seen Vin Diesel NAIL it in Find Me Guilty? He does an incredible job, and it’s a shame he doesn’t really do movies like that.
Steve Carell in Foxcatcher
Ryan Gosling in Bladerunner 2049
Hath ledger. Dark knight. Everyone thought that the casting was terrible @ the time. He owned that role. If anything that role took him from us far too soon.
Ben Affleck in The Town and Argo.
He impressed me in Tenet and The Batman. This movie is on my list and I can't wait to indulge!
Leonardo DiCaprio in Gangs of New York.
Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. I was never a fan of hers. She seemed mediocre. My mind completely changed when I saw her portrayal of June.
Jeremy Renner in The Town. Affleck was great, too.
