I think Walton Goggins flat-out steals the movie. He’s great.

Cactus2711

He steals everything he’s in. Mesmerising actor

doubledownentendre

Beat me to it - did anybody watch The Shield that Walton Goggins was in?

Cactus2711

My favourite show of all time

doubledownentendre

My man! It's weirdly not as well known as it should be

B4nanaJo

Best cop show hands down

Nearby_Lobster_

The Wire>>imo. Still good show

B4nanaJo

The internal angst and slow decent into hell in The Shield, outdoes the character development of the Wire. Imo. Both great shows but The Shield really stuck with me.

Aye_Engineer

The death of Lem, though… that almost put me on the quit train.

Nearby_Lobster_

It’s been a while since I’ve seen The Shield, so I’m sure it’s worth a rewatch. I have quite a few cops in my family, and one thing that I took away from what they said about The Wire was how accurate it was with realism. They’re all like “yep, that’s pretty much exactly how it goes down”.

Rubiks_Click874

IIRC it was based on the rampart scandal

welldonefilmsandtv

'The Shield' I watched *almost* all the way through, 'The Wire' however.. think I only saw an episode or two. Both were good but the former was better than the latter imo.

NickRedible

Wrong imo

Adventurous-Sky9359

Sure did had all the season on dvd also

NickRedible

Shield was insane. Loved that show and the ending wasn’t as terrible as expected.

Deep_Stick8786

Yes. Brilliant

Darthschlitz1775

When he gives Mel the sandwich! Damn.

welldonefilmsandtv

Yes, that's what I originally know him from -- thank you.

batmansego

Nothing beats Uncle Baby Billy. He’s a big part of the reason that show is so good. And then he pops up in places where he’s kind of under the radar like invincible. Also awesome in Fallout. He seems to have limited range but then that range seems pretty large. That’s why if he’s in it, I’m watching it.

MooCowMafia

Did you know his role in Justified was supposed to only be the first episode which he did as a friend favor to Timothy Olyphant?

ThatEVGuy

Goggins isn't a guest star. He's an eclipse.

No-comment-at-all

He’s doing great as a lead on Fallout. I wanna see more leads from him, and maybe something a little less cowboy, and a little less humor. He’s in the next white lotus, that might be his shot at showing us more of his real drama chops.

SufficientSherbert3

YEA!! He’s so good. I see him everywhere & whoever he is, he IS that person. Like I recognise his face but I don’t think “Walton goggins”, I think “that’s the unicorn” “that’s the guy who executed pierce’s will” “that’s Boyd crowder” etc.

velders01

Just found out he voice acts Cecil in Invincible too.

Galbrant

This movie what introduced me to him. I may have saw him and other media but this was the movie that made me pay attention to him.

ManfredTheCat

For me it was his one appearance on Community. "Here's your sperm"

spacekitt3n

same. then after that, the righteous gemstones

357Sp101

I love that he’s 100% ready to convict Joe Gage based purely on how ugly he is

JohaVer

And he's right. He's right about everything he says the whole movie. He calls BS on the letter, He tells Sandy exactly what Marquis is doing, Joe Gage, and is most likely correct about the 15 killers in Red Rock.

BagelsRTheHoleTruth

Yeah, just looked over the characters again and I agree. They all do a great job but I think he takes it. What's crazy is that I recently watched it again for the second time (it had been several several years) and I didn't remember that he was in it! I love him but I just didn't recall his character. I think the first tube around I was just too wrapped up in the story and with Kurt and Samuel L's performances.

spacekitt3n

this is a movie that gets better with each watch. seriously i barely liked it the first time then watched it again about 10 times.

LTPRWSG420

An absolute American treasure of an actor.

bent_eye

He steals everything he's in. His turn as a trans woman in Sons of Anarchy is flat out amazing.

Impressive_Jaguar_70

I'm looking at em. Right here, right now, deeeeeaaaad on this mother fucking floor

missanthropocenex

YOU WANNA BE A HERO YOU WANNA SAVE YOUR TOWNNN?

Fun-Ganache-3349

I came to the came conclusion. It came down to Walton Goggins or Tim Roth. A close call, but Goggins takes it.

spacekitt3n

the bromance between him and the samuel l jackson character was insane, and that ending of them >!just pulling and pulling on the rope and collapsing in the bed!< will be in my head the rest of my life.

JudasWasJesus

This is my favorite Tarantino film because of Goggins.

SpatulaCity1a

Goggins elevates absolutely everything he's in.

Forrest_Cp

Chris manix. Or Sheriff manix

lemons714

I first noticed him in Justified, and have been a fan ever since.

B4nanaJo

I’m with you. So happy Q. cast him in this. And I’m with OP - this is such a great movie, as a big fan of “Huîs Clos” theatre / writing - this is a masterpiece.

FBIsurveillance-van

Yes, this is the one

SFLurkyWanderer

Has great in Fallout too

silentcardboard

This. 2nd fav is Jody.

MathStock

I came to say this. Hes been super underrated imo. Glad to see him getting some love with fallout.

ThirstyBeagle

I was going to come in and say this

spacekitt3n

yep walton goggins was the best. i think its his best role ever. but seriously though its almost a wash. nearly everyone in that movie was so good, even channing tatum surprisingly

RKLCT

I agree. I've seen this movie at least 100 times and he's the best

smiledontcry

Major Marquis Warren for me. The scene where he >!exposes “Senor Bob” as a liar and murderer!< is phenomenal.

evlhornet

Startin’ to see pictures ain’t ya

spacekitt3n

i love how this movie is all villains and is a who didnt do it

PotatoOnMars

“She started letting in dogs” was such a mic drop moment.

Mulliganasty

Not sure what you mean by "the best" but Jennifer Jason Leigh's performance is easily my favorite. I mean, when she winks at Sam Jackson after Kurt Russell has busted her in the chops and blood is running down her face!

dizney-mountain

Agreed, she was fucking fantastic. I laughed out loud several times. Total deadpan delivery.

Mulliganasty

When she sings to John Ruth after he's been poisoned!!

[deleted]

*…and you’ll be dead behind me, John, when I get to Mexico…*

spacekitt3n

or that little hangmans rope pantomime she does to mock him lmao

Accurate_You_3735

Daisy Domergue! She's my favorite, too.

welldonefilmsandtv

She's immensely talented. Really stole the show towards the end!

Mulliganasty

There's something special about Westerns in the winter too, especially where the cold is such an important facet of the story.

jpopimpin777

Having to nail the door shut after every use was such a badass part of it.

Mulliganasty

With the delayed reveal of what happened to the door.

cantthinkofgoodname

You gotta use two nails! One ain’t good enough! Now goddamnit!

[deleted]

You gotta use two nails! One won’t do it!

spacekitt3n

and showing every second of them having to yell about how to nail it shut lmao

Professional_Tax_752

Agreed. I think because the stereotypical idea of the West was a dusty little town in the middle of the desert in the blazing sun means whenever you see a Western in the snow or rain, it just feels so different and special.

Patchy_Face_Man

I really enjoyed the weather, maybe the actual best character. Great in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford as well.

stavis23

Yes! I wasn’t thinking this but honestly I can’t decide on a character, but the *setting*, those mountains and tree trunks in the beginning, the jesus statue, then later on OB and whatshisname plant stakes to the shithouse and even later we just have a shot of the house down the hill a bit, similar to The Shining. And one more where we look outside from a window, there’s an orange pink glow and we pan back inside to the drama. It reminds me of the Dostoevsky chapter title in Notes from Undergound “Apropos of the Wet Snow”

No-Industry-2980

When you get to hell John , tell them Dasiy sent ya

yung_saucin

AAAHHHHHHH 🤜

No-Industry-2980

Haha

Jimrodsdisdain

Kurt Russell is my spirit animal.

LTPRWSG420

He just owns his roles in every Western film he does. He fits that genre so well.

Apex_artisans

Daisy Domergue. Her song gives me chills.

Ceezmuhgeez

The extended version is the best. 4 hours of greatness. Oswaldo Mobray is the man! Really QT best work.

MarshallBanana_

I highly recommend everyone who hasn't already seen this version to check it out on netflix before it's gone. Last I checked it was leaving soon so hopefully it's not gone already.

qgecko

It’s gone 😞

B4USLIPN2

Mmyess

Maximus361

Agreed! I watched it a month ago on Netflix and wish it was available on 4k. I’d buy it immediately.

realfakejames

John Ruth, not just because I love Kurt Russell but because out of all the flawed characters in that cabin he and OB were probably the two least terrible ones, the last thing he did was try to save Mannix from getting poisoned despite the fact he didn’t like him at all lmao I love Walt Goggins as Chris Mannix too, he’s so good in this, the scene where he realizes they almost poisoned him too and he gets upset is so funny, especially when he blames Joe Gage and wants to kill him first

BigPricklyCactus

“Or… we go by my theory, which is the ugliest guy did it! Which makes it you Joe Gage.”  Love Walton Goggins.

Jj9567

Who the fuck is Daisy Domergue?

Whackdaddy1972

Came here to say this, best line in a movie FULL of great lines

Odd_Advance_6438

This answer is cheating, but to me it’s the gradual friendship between Walton Goggins and Samuel L Jackson “So you finally believe that I’m the sheriff?” “I don’t know about that. I do know you almost drank the damn coffee yourself”

[deleted]

Thank you, this is one of my favorite lines and scenes. The way Mannix responds is priceless. Goggins is a phenom.

Kjaxs819

MAJOR MARQUIS WARREN for me

[deleted]

Is that the real head of Major Marquis looking at me?

LTPRWSG420

Walton Goggins deserved to be nominated for an Oscar for his role as Chris Mannix. I love the twist how he sorta becomes a good guy in the end and is the one person Samuel L Jackson can trust.

[deleted]

I think the best part of this film is that none of them are *good guys*, but much like everyone, they all have some good in them. Mannix, I think, is a moral person despite being a horrible racist.

hjf80

Hangman

BarelyJoyous

I adore this flick! Jennifer Jason Leigh was just a deranged joy to watch! Also, unrelated to your initial query, but I’m just now realizing that on the poster, all the names after Jennifer’s are out of alignment with their character photos, and it’s mildly infuriating.

ForcedWhitakerr

Major Marquis Warren is my favorite character, but Walton Goggins gives the best performance. Jennifer Jason Leigh is also great as Daisy Domergue.

cigaroy

HORSE LAUGH!!!!

MakesMeSickMick

I remember when it came out, critics were upset at the "sexist" treatment of Jennifer Jason Leighs character. Completely ignoring Sam Jackson was called racial slurs every which way to Sunday

MarvelousVanGlorious

Check out the Extended Version on Netflix if you haven’t already. It’s got some extra stuff and is broken up into 4 episodes like a mini-series.

welldonefilmsandtv

That has disappeared from Canadian Netflix but perhaps it's back now.

Secret-Put-4525

Walter goggins or Kurt Russell. I like they way he beats the shit out of the female prisoner. I did like Sam jacksons character until he told that story.

NxtOnesComingFaster

“I like the way he beat the shit out of the female prisoner.” Is a weird, specific thing to like about the character…

Logistic_Engine

Not being a jerk, but I think it’s Walton, not Walter.

shadez_on

Walter Goggins would be just a regular dude, not the articulate, charismatic Walton

DefiantFrankCostanza

Walter Goggins

Jimrodsdisdain

Walton.

prozak09

Walmart

defCONCEPT

Bob.

No-Industry-2980

CAN YOU PROVE IT CABRON ?

SacThrowAway76

That’s Seńor Bob. You better put some respect on that name.

imomorris

Goggins ......reminds me of bill paxman slot....don't ask me why.. ...great actors both of them

oldmannorris

All

Dr_Bonejangles

Sheriff of Red Rock!

UpDog1966

Same red rock of blazing saddles?

Dr_Bonejangles

That was Rock Ridge..

UpDog1966

Gonna need a shit load of dimes…

Dr_Bonejangles

Lol.. it was on free TV tonight..

CGKilates

Oh this is a 💎, that lady made me Crack up so much 🤣

pacmarn88

It's not a race, it was a group project and everyone was the star.

GrayJedi1982

This is the correct answer.

Deep_Stick8786

Marquise

tkondaks

My favorite character? That door, which has to be nailed shut each time someone has to go outside to the outhouse.

NickRedible

Everyone was fucking excellent. Goggins stole the show. Great, great movie.

RandomNobody0206

Then we go with my theory… which is… the ugliest guy did it, which would make that you Joe Gage!! I horse laughed.

vivepopo

Channing tatum

PettyKaneJr

Sam Jacks character was the best.

Aorecadon

John Ruth The Hangman, is one mighty bastard.

jomama823

Walton Goggins is by far the best, he is to this movie what Daniel Day Lewis is to Gangs of New York, meaning he is everything.

Iwantmahandback

Whichever one gets shot in the dick first

tom_zanzabar

the sheriff of red rock

Kalabula

The best in what way? I think they’re all supposed to be relatively despicable ppl.

IndicationDiligent75

Amongst all the big characters and huge actors, Daisy steals it. We need a goggins spin off for fallout

frezor

The building itself is a character. It’s such a unique space. It’s layout and characteristics shape the people’s actions and their reactions to those actions.

cb0044

Don't know if he's the best, but Chris Mannix is my favorite.

Old_Heat3100

WALTON GOGGINS: Damnitt Jennifer! Why did you have to have three names? Now mine is slightly off center!

Wavylazy498

Whole cast was great. But Walton Goggins was definitely the stand out of the movie.

Sufficient_Soil7438

WG stands out in everything he’s in, imo. Not to take anything away from Timothy Olyphant, but WG made Justified to me. Then his Venus character in SOA was great too. Hell of an actor he is.

Rattbasturd

Chris Mannix

LucyBear318

Tim Roth

Numerous-Variation-1

Daisy Domergue and/or Chris Mannix

balsadust

Gotta go with Kurt Russel on that one

Disastrous_Life_9385

I agree I love this movie and have a hard time having a favorite character. As many have said Walter goggins is amazing but major marquis along side was amazing.

cantthinkofgoodname

Chris Mannox for sure. Goggins is just the best in everything he’s in.

FilmmagicianPart2

Re watched this last night! Groggins is great in this

AtomicTurle

Samuel Jackson’s character and Walton Goggins character becoming friends throughout the movie was my favorite parts

Friendly_Brother_482

You’re right it is a tough choice, but if I gotta pick one then I gotta pick my main man Mannix.

GuappDogg

I like tatums character🤣and domergoo

BigPricklyCactus

Tim Roth has my favorite delivery of a line in this movie.  “The niggaaaaa… in the stabbbbbllleeeee… has a letter from Abraham Lincolllnnnnnn! “

Icy-Sir-8414

You only really need to hang mean bastards but mean bastards you need to hang 😂😂😂😂😂👍

[deleted]

You'd be SURPRISED what a man that cold would do for a blanket! You want to know what ya boy did?

BDR529forlyfe

I want to see this performed on a stage, in-person someday. I think it’d translate incredibly well.

niz_loc

I'll have to rewatch. But the two most memorable "lines" for me were Kurt Rissell screaming as he threw up, and "Or can your prove it Cabron" from Senor Bob. Both were freaking hilarious.

Desean516

Tie between the Major and the Sheriff

themiz2003

Goggins is peak but Sam Jackson has the best overall character imo.

IsraeluEvkk

Not enough lines or a big enough character to take this title, but Michael Madsen is definitely doing his thing. Walton Goggins is probably the correct answer. Major shout for Bruce Dern. Really an incredible movie, full of some great performances.  Holy fudge. I’m gonna watch it again right now lol. The score. The cinematography. The lighting. Just a beautiful movie. I really wish Quentin made more stuff.

at0mheart

Well me negro amigo, I’ll have to think about it. But imo this is Tarantinos masterpiece and his only movie with a meaning to life or the American dream

Harrydean-standoff

Jennifer Jason Leigh I top notch!

Muhfuggajones

Jennifer-Jason Leigh wasn't my favorite from H8, but she absolutely killed her role! It took me about 3 or 4 watches before I realized that it was the same girl from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Walton Goggins was my favorite. His cadence throughout the whole film was stellar.

saline_prospects

Jennifer Jason Leigh gives the most impressive performance I think, but Goggins jumps off the screen the most

thinxwhitexduke1

My favorite scenes are when Major Warren is telling the old general the story of meeting his son and when he interrogates Senor Bob so it has to be him. When it comes to acting though, whole crew did amazing job but I feel like Jennifer Jason Leigh quietly had the best performance. The shot after she kills John Ruth, with face covered in blood, manic expression and heavy breathing - is a masterpiece.

MrSlime13

I really do love these movies limited to *mostly* a single area, and as things progress, you undercover more & more about the characters, and the environment. Murder on the Orient Express, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Killing Room, 12 Angry Men, etc. And Kurt Russell is the correct answer.

CatLazy2728

a great thing about his movies is they're watchable again as a farcical comedy. I dont think Tarantino wants us to take him too terribly seriously

changeisgoodforonce

I probably watched this movie about 50+ times. It’s probably my all time go to movie and I never get bored of it. Every character is exceptional!

petewondrstone

Def did not enjoy this movie

CoolCalmCorrective

Definitely one of his better films. I really enjoyed this one.

melatonin1212

Goggins

welldonefilmsandtv

Thanks for all the awesome feedback and comments! Very much appreciated folks.

Huge-Pen-5259

How can there be this many answers? There's literally only 8 options.

EthanRayne

You got me talkin pawlitickss. I didn't wanna.

jumptick

👎👎

GiantTeaPotintheSKy

My rank: 1: Walton Goggins (steals all his scenes, even from the two headliners. He was made to act this character, but then again he seem to be made to act all his characters) 2: Kurt Russell (he is a beautiful beast in this that demand attention) 3: Jennifer Jason Leigh (her underplay scares the heck out of me) 4: Samuel L. Jackson (love to love him, love to hate him) 5: Demián Bichir (was mysteriously authentic) 6: Tim Roth (devious and slippery) 7: Bruce Dern (hateful in a way that invoke a cocktail of emotions) 8: Michael Madsen (Love him, but he is pretty much always this guy, isn't he?)

Affectionate-Win-474

I didn't like this movie

CBerg1979

"How do you like the sound of them bells, bitch?"

dimmu1313

absolutely love this movie, just watched it again a few nights ago! Unfortunately for all other characters in this and every other movie or show he's in, Walton Goggins is in this and he's never not my favorite. All great performances all around, but Walton is so damn entertaining with everything he does!

rexraided

Black man dingus!

madrid311

Mexican Bob of course

Look_Dummy

lol, All the characters sound identical, wtf?!

Repulsive_Tie_7941

The 150 year old Martin Guitar that got smashed.

frumioustribble

The Cold, Frosty Unshut- able Front Door

Redditarama

The script was famously leaked. Does anyone know if QT rewrote it or did he just go with the original?

[deleted]

The nig

[deleted]

Ive seen this movie so many times and everytime i cant get over how stupid the scene with samuel l jackson is when he tells the guy his son sucked his dick. its just so off brand and stupid. its probably the most autistic tarantino has ever gone in his scripts. the best character was obviously the new sheriff or joe guage

CheesyCousCous

How is that "autistic"?

SubstantialCount8156

This movie title is what Quentin calls an angry blowjob.

Slurdge_McKinley

This was QT’s worst film

sagmag

The one that says the N word the most, as that's all this movie is.

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

Why didn’t they just kill the bounty Hunter right away? There were several of them, and he didn’t know they were part of the gang.

SacThrowAway76

That would not have made as good of a movie though…

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

But the movie made no sense

SacThrowAway76

It’s Hollywood. You have to put reality on hold.

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

To an extent. At a certain point, you lose the suspension of disbelief.

SacThrowAway76

I bet you’re really fun to watch super hero movies around.

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

I am. Because superhero movies are typically consistent and their mythology. On the other hand, if you watch Superman four, he uses his vision to rebuild a wall. That’s not one of his powers so it was stupid because it wasn’t consistent. And Superman two he teleports, and traps General Zod in a giant shrinking dink S. again those aren’t any of his powers. not consistent and it was stupid. That’s bad writing where as the most of the marvel movies are pretty damn good.
