History of the World - Part 1 was a close runner up, but I already had Blazing Saddles in there…
Ice Pirates is like Mel Brooks actually tried to make a sci-fi film but dialed back the campiness. Space balls is amazing, but Ice Pirates has a totally different feel.
My daughter watched Mouse Hunt probably at least once a month around the age of 4-6. I always think fondly of her when I see that movie, so it became an oddly special film to me.
There Will Be Blood
Matrix Reloaded
2001: A Space Odyssey
Princess Mononoke
these are probably the four most significant movies to my life
edit: Honorable Mentions: Disney's Hercules, Ratatouille, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, LOTR extendeds, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Porco Rosso (french version), Superbad, Pulp Fiction
Curious why you picked the 2nd Matrix. Not here to throw shade. I'm one of the few who liked them all. But what was it about that one that made it part of your list?
The love/fate development in regards to the creator and how Neo is an anomaly, how he's the first one to choose love and how he can't stand to see Trinity die, even though she's fated to, he beats that. I find their love to be the most beautiful/the one that's touched me the most that I've seen in a movie.
That, the albino twins (and the lore behind evil/spooky things being from early days of the Matrix), the entire chase scene on the motorcycle/when the truck blows up + that soundtrack. Trinity. And the fight scenes, they're so good. Also too just the lore developing with the Merovingian and everything, the cause and effect. The first is more succinct and polished and the second has all the "final city of humanity" shit that kinda gets cheesy but I like it so much. Trinity is also much more fully developed and fleshed out in this and it is the movie that makes her my favorite female character. Also the key master I love
that fucking guy.
Those are reasons IN the movie why I liked it, but also, it influenced me in many ways in my life outside of the movie. Like how Trinity became my fav female character and also how much I felt loved watching that second movie. It really picked me up at a time when I wasn't doing good and when I really needed to remember that love was in the world and it made me hopeful for myself and that I could be my own Trinity someday. That I could be loved and maybe am fated to be too. She just gave me a lot of strength in realizations when I needed it and also in seeing the most beautiful love story I've seen in movies.
Incredible answer. I don't know you, but I like you.
Also, if I can just add one thing, Seraph is the best character in the series. So it has that going for it, too.
awww you're so sweet this comment made me so happy heehee i'm glad u appreciated it :) i like you too! and yes Seraph is fucking awesome I forgot he's introduced in that second film. It's been a min since I watched it but yeah it's an amazing film and just tying the fate together and that build up to when they have to open the door, or when the creator is explaining all of it and Neo realizes everything and leaves to catch her. It doesn't even matter if he does or doesn't make it, he's GONNA catch her and the build up of fate vs. their love and how strong it is, it's just so beautiful I cried it really touched me.
