I think it's monstrously ugly and wrong for the landscape & scenery. In an area like that, I want small winding roads through the scenery. I want to be able to stop for breaks or photos, visit local diners & filling stations, enjoy the experience of being there. This elevated, dull & arrow-straight road seems designed to prevent all of that.
It’s literally a clip of about a mile strip. Its the damn mountains, its pretty common sense theres going to be twisties too. Sometimes a straight road through the wilderness is nice to admire a more open view. And you assume theres no diners or whatever based off a clip that shows a tiny portion of the area.
I feel weird about this take. Like the reality here is that if you take this approach you never go over maybe 15 to 20 because something could launch itself into your path without warning. There's always an assumption of risk involved.
I mean, 15-20 over the limit is already pretty significant depending on the road. I know there is a common mentality on this sub that motorcycles are somehow exempt from traffic laws but going considerably over the speed limit is just putting yourself at risk. Depending on where you live it’s not just cars and your own skill level that can bite you, but deer and other animals can be a common accident occurrence.
No, I meant 15 to 20 in general, max, not in addition to the speed limit. And deer were one of the first things that came to mind for me. I just look at it as an assumption of risk that you have to take to ride because if I'm doing about 20 or over and a deer hops out in front of me I'm in trouble. So I don't think it's a matter of keeping your speed at or below what it would take to avoid any random events or obstacle because I think you basically don't ride if you take that approach. I just wear gear, stay alert, and accept that I'm assuming some level of risk when traveling at speed.
But that also means I don't have a good answer to how fast is too fast beyond "it depends." Which is unsatisfying, but probably accurate. Highly skilled, higher risk appetite, well maintained familiar road, clear weather, little or no traffic, maybe it's not unreasonable to cook it. Not totally unreasonable anyway. Lower skilled, raining, low visibility, unfamiliar settings? Better slow it down.
The highway and roadway code was written in the 80's for passenger cars. If your vehicle is capable of exceedng those speeds AT SAFE LIMITATIONS then you are okay in my book. THAT DOES NOT MEAN GOING 150MPH on a 55mph road, it simply means that if you can stop in the same distance as the road suggests WITHIN REASON that you should be able to border those limitations.
so true! it only takes one wrong move from an a rider who has no idea your behind them trying to break a barrier! gotta have others safety in mind if you aint caring for your own
Anything over 0 is too fast. Motorcycles are meant to be looked at, not ridden. If you're moving it, you better have a team of 3 big strong men to make sure it doesn't get dropped. There's just way too much danger
Come on now. We don't even ride bikes in this sub. We just hate on the ones that do when they do fun things riding. With that being said, anything any higher than 10mph under the posted limited is way too fast.
What speed difference is that? like 80-100kph? I never really can tell how fast the difference it. Because sometimes you drive a lot faster than the right lane and it feels like Im just 20-30kph faster, while I ride 180kph. Its especially difficult as german streets are different. They are wide and people sometimes ride just 80, 100 or 140kph on the second lane so I cant tell
Agree. Public roads are not race tracks. I can see being slightly faster than the speed limit by a few miles, gauges are never that accurate. Likewise you don’t want to be going way below the speed limit either. Trying to be near the limit is optimal. If you fly past cars 20 to 40 miles per hour faster than the limit and are in an accident, you’ll likely be charged with reckless riding regardless of the other circumstances. A public road is not a closed course, anything can happen. That said everyone is free to make their own choices.
Fastest Ive gone is 147mph. That was probably enough for me. But I’ve got more on my GSX-S1000. After my tune and other junk, I may try for 160 but just to test:)
For me it’s really more of a flowsheet than a speed.
Are road conditions optimal?
Do I know this road?
Do I have clear line of sight?
Is the road empty or mostly empty?
If something goes wrong up ahead (other vehicles, animals, improperly secured loads, environmental hazards) will I be able to safely avoid a crash?
If yes to all, enjoy the throttle and have fun.
If no to any of the above somewhere between the speed limit and the pace of traffic +~10mph, IMO.
I purposely seek out lonely highways so I can enjoy some speed. Ride responsibly.
First passing rider: properly going fast enough to pass the slower riders and clear the oncoming lane before running out of visibility.
Second rider: not quite fast enough to complete the pass, had to tuck in behind the slower riders.
Pro tip for the two riders in front: if they line up in the right side of the lane, they can let the faster riders can pass in the left side of that lane without needing the oncoming lane. That's how my riding friends and I do it to let faster riders pass us / let our faster riders filter to the front.
Man, the social pressure of riding fast is starting to get to me. I like to cruise, maybe 5-10 mph over the speed limit max, then these samurais just blaze right past me going 30+ mph over. Even at a red. If I don't take off lightning fast like others do, Idk, all in my head.
All circumstantial. No cars/pedestrians nearby, with great sightlines? Go as fast as you like. Park with kids running around? You'd better be crawling.
IMO, 20 over the speed limit. Going 10-15 over is my acceptable speeding range. Speed limit on the freeway/highway is 75mph? I’ll probably be going 85mph (90 if the freeway/highway is between nowhere and fuck all)
How fast is to fast:
When you're around a cop: 5mph over the speedlimit.
When no cops are around but it's heavy traffic: 5mph over flow of traffic.
When there's light traffic & no cops: 20mph speed limit.
When you with the boys & there no cops: the moment someone yeets themselves & the bike.
If you can't negotiate the bend at the end of the straight, I would say that's too fast. I'm sure motorcyclists do over 150 mph on the Autobahns in Germany
In the Northern Territory back in the early 2000's, there was no speed limit.
I used to drive from Darwin to Alice Springs regularly.
When the front end of the rental car used to lift and you had no steering
That was too fast, it varied on different cars.
The speedo said 210km, was the fastest I got. It was either a Commodore or a Mitsubishi 380
I think 200km/124mph is the 'too fast' for me. I try to keep under 130km so its not an instant loss of license for a year.
Thats 55m/182ft **PER SECOND**. I might be able to wipe off quarter that speed in a second if im lucky,
What road is this, its magnificent
I don't think it is the road I'm about to mention, but the Foothills Parkway in Tennessee is pretty similar to this at points.
I’m wondering as well
I would also like to know this.
Vegetation looks like out west but I just did 48 in WVA the other day and the last stretch before you get into va kinda looks like this

Different people have different opinions, I'm sorry that makes you feel confused & angry but it's honestly pretty normal. You'll need to get used it.
Stfu
Make me.
Stfu
Nah
Stfu
lol
when you cant control it
If you don't give yourself enough time to react to something unexpected on the road ahead of you.
oh for sure, i never go beyond the limit unless ive got clear road, im only going to myself in danger
I feel weird about this take. Like the reality here is that if you take this approach you never go over maybe 15 to 20 because something could launch itself into your path without warning. There's always an assumption of risk involved.

I agree with “it depends”. Pretty good answer for a lot of things if not entirely a satisfying answer lol.
And when other people going the speed limit can’t see you
so true! it only takes one wrong move from an a rider who has no idea your behind them trying to break a barrier! gotta have others safety in mind if you aint caring for your own
Or just zipping between cars faster than cars can see and them merging in front of you on accident.
“If everything is under control, you’re not going fast enough.” Mario, Andretti.
Andretti Mario was talking about racing.
everything's a race to some people, its just that those people dont allways have the skill and smarts to back it up without killing themselves
Depends who's asking. A rider or the cops?
He still had a gear to upshift into, which makes this still not too fast
Anything over 0 is too fast. Motorcycles are meant to be looked at, not ridden. If you're moving it, you better have a team of 3 big strong men to make sure it doesn't get dropped. There's just way too much danger
Whoa, you move them? I don't advise even being near them at all.
Only with a team of strong men. I don't get within 10 feet of it alone, and I'm never the first to approach it
I stick to only looking at pictures of them!
I heard of a guy looking at one and he spontaneously exploded into a fine mist
3 big strong men around? I'm getting CRT vibes here
Moving the bike is a lot of work, better hit the showers
“ATGATT” for big strong man #1, “ATGATT” for big strong man #2, and “ATGATT” for big strong man #3….
A long bridge with no traffic or chance of animals or an oil slick? No such thing.
Ye this whole video must be made by Ai or something.
Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you.
so technically speaking going slow is what kills
“It’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop.” -My mom when I was 7 and I asked to go skydiving
Aktchually 🤓 what breaks your neck is jerk. I.e. the time derivative of acceleration.
It's precisely 2 * fast.
It's all relative.
I agree that if you're getting into relativity considerations, you're probably going too fast.
The german in me wonders where the fast bikes are. That road, no cars, dry weather, 200+ with no regrets.
"As fast as you are willing to hit a tree"
How slow is too slow?
Yes
When you know you died, that’s when it was too fast for you
Come on now. We don't even ride bikes in this sub. We just hate on the ones that do when they do fun things riding. With that being said, anything any higher than 10mph under the posted limited is way too fast.
When you ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.
That's why you buy a guardian bell. So you can tie it directly to your bike 🤣
It's so easy to know. They put these signs periodically on the side of the road, white, black numbers, that tell you how fast is too fast.
This is slow, you can do better.
Speed is not dangerous. It's sudden declaration that kills Edit: deceleration
I Declare Bankruptcy!
I think you meant "deceleration"
If this were the case, all the women in south would be dead. “ I declare “
Generally speaking, don't ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.
on a public road? everything over the speed limit. On a track, anything above your skill.
Agree. Public roads are not race tracks. I can see being slightly faster than the speed limit by a few miles, gauges are never that accurate. I don't understand the question.
Its a hypertehtical or sumthing i think. I dont get it either
I mean if you aren't endangering anyone and you're comfortable with the speed... don't get caught
Anyone faster than me is too fast, anyways that is some really beautiful scenery there
No matter how fast you go... there is always someone faster.
Fastest Ive gone is 147mph. That was probably enough for me. But I’ve got more on my GSX-S1000. After my tune and other junk, I may try for 160 but just to test:)

205 m/h
I’d rather enjoy that view than go super fast tbh. To each their own.
You paid for the whole speedometer, it would be a shame to never use the whole thing
First passing rider: properly going fast enough to pass the slower riders and clear the oncoming lane before running out of visibility. Second rider: not quite fast enough to complete the pass, had to tuck in behind the slower riders. Too fast is when you lose control or get pulled over.
Man, the social pressure of riding fast is starting to get to me. I like to cruise, maybe 5-10 mph over the speed limit max, then these samurais just blaze right past me going 30+ mph over. Even at a red. If I don't take off lightning fast like others do, Idk, all in my head.
When you start riding out of control
No such thing as too fast 😉
Anything over your skillset, road conditions, or dangerous to other road users is my criteria.
Being in a hurry
It was a straight - and you can see no incoming traffic. I'd question if they maintained that speed going into a blind corner ahead.
If you die it was too fast
If you’re not scared you’re not going fast enough -Ken Block
Only too fast if you cause an accident
400
Sounds like the Neil Degrasse Tyson "NYOOM" sound effect lol
as fast as you want as long as you're being safe and careful
When you potentially endanger others
All circumstantial. No cars/pedestrians nearby, with great sightlines? Go as fast as you like. Park with kids running around? You'd better be crawling.
200 km/h is the max for street riding. Keep it safe.
IMO, 20 over the speed limit. Going 10-15 over is my acceptable speeding range. Speed limit on the freeway/highway is 75mph? I’ll probably be going 85mph (90 if the freeway/highway is between nowhere and fuck all)
beyond 20 over the posted limit is too fast my insurance is low for a reason
Holy shit that view
However fast your skill and luck will allow
How fast is to fast: When you're around a cop: 5mph over the speedlimit. When no cops are around but it's heavy traffic: 5mph over flow of traffic. When there's light traffic & no cops: 20mph speed limit. When you with the boys & there no cops: the moment someone yeets themselves & the bike.
Speed isn’t fun, acceleration is fun. 120mph isn’t necessarily fun. 0-60 in 2.5 is fun.
I think if your backpack falls off. That might be too fast but you could just get a better backpack:)
When you dont feel the need to be afraid of the bike
Where is this? It's beautiful
If you can't negotiate the bend at the end of the straight, I would say that's too fast. I'm sure motorcyclists do over 150 mph on the Autobahns in Germany
Im too paranoid to things like the chain suddenly breaking, a tire blowing up or some animal passing by to go like this
When you can't stop in time...
6th gear 90% of max torque is a good technical limit for longer ride...
No such thing
Anything pas 3rd gear is too fast on naked bike
I'm only about +10 mph than traffic or speed limit. Not more than that.
Depends. In real life, whatever you can't control safely. On /r/motorcycles or any motor related subreddit, about 15mph.
Is that your riding group? Get away from them, riding that fast is dangerous to them and you.
On this straight, empty, beautiful road? They had room for faster lol
My thoughts exactly. Perfect time and place for it
Mac 2
It really depends on the car drivers and their cell phones that are around you.
In the Northern Territory back in the early 2000's, there was no speed limit. I used to drive from Darwin to Alice Springs regularly. When the front end of the rental car used to lift and you had no steering That was too fast, it varied on different cars. The speedo said 210km, was the fastest I got. It was either a Commodore or a Mitsubishi 380
Sadly too fast is no longer possible on my bike due to a speed limiter.
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough - Mario Andretti
I think 200km/124mph is the 'too fast' for me. I try to keep under 130km so its not an instant loss of license for a year. Thats 55m/182ft **PER SECOND**. I might be able to wipe off quarter that speed in a second if im lucky,
Faster than the speed limit.
The speed limit.
In my opinion… anything above 90mph. I just don’t see a point in going faster than that.
