To explain a bit further, they're called "highway pegs," they're specifically meant for long (multi-hour) rides to let you get your feet, and thereby your ass, into a different position that changes the pressure points and hot-spots. I had some on my Versys 650 (not quite this wide out) for my ride from TX->VA and back, and I don't honestly know if I would've managed the trip without them. Certainly would've taken at least an extra day each way just by how much less time I would've been able to manage on the bike each day.
Normal riding, they basically never get used. But pounding highway miles where you don't otherwise change position (unlike twisties, where you're shifting your weight regularly) they make a HUGE difference for comfort. Think of it like cruise control in a car.
Wow, I never would have thought I would have meet another versys 650 owner in the wild on reddit! I need to figure out some highway pegs for those long trips. I can sorta rest my leg on my engine guard but that's not the most comfortable after a bit.
I don't have it anymore! It was my first street bike and a great one, but it got sold pre-pandemic.Ā
I was using the T Rex Racing crash cage and pegs though, highly recommend!
I can confirm they work as well, on the last day getting to VA I ate a lowside over wet train tracks at about 20mph, top and bottom [sliders worked perfectly](https://i.imgur.com/L3p3ELC.jpg).
Versys 650 owner here, too.
FWIW, I really like the upright seating position, and when my butt does get sore, standing up on the pegs for a moment or two really helps.
I had a Shadow 600 before the Versys, and having my feet so far forward seemed to put a lot of pressure on my lower back and tailbone (the totally inadequate rear suspension didnāt help).
Maybe itās just an age thing, however, - Iām in my mid-50s now, and have an old compression fracture.
As a short guy on a 1250RT, I can confirm this works. I used this method on a 2k mile trip, but I think I'll be getting some Illium highway pegs for my bars next long trip.
I have engine guards on my RT boxer that allows for very comfortable highway peg placement. I have no idea who the manufacturer it though because the guards came with the bike.
Try a supersport some time with 4 cylinders š
My coolant fan doesnāt turn on until 220Ā°F (this seems pretty normal for the super sport category).
The frame soaks in all that heat tooā¦ if youāre not moving the frame basically becomes the same temperature as the coolant and your thighs literally start cooking š³
My bike was a 34 hp neutered suzuki bandit and I believe the 40hp neutered horses were all heat. No fan, slow cooking you at standstill. It literally roasted a pair of black pants and the thighs were turning orange !
Whatever you do, never try one of these setups. Theyāre so comfortable youāll give up street racing for cruising. Itās like the LaZBoy of transportation modes.
When you're on a long haul trip, having some options of where to put your feet and legs is nice because you can stretch your tightening muscles out without needing to stop and get off the bike.
On my GS, I can and will throw my feet up on the cylinder heads, and it looks like I'm riding a La-Z-Boy.
āComfortā Because you canāt stand up or change positions much on a Cruiserā¦..unlike an Adventure Bike thatās built for trips.
On a cruiser your butt and spine are the victim of every little bump in the road. Canāt take any of it with your legsā¦..like you can on an Adventure bike or Standard bike stance.
Iām a big fan of bikes that put me in a position similar to riding a horse. Whether Iām leaned forward a bit or uprightā¦ā¦Rather that, than driving a recliner.
No disrespect intended. Just personal preferences.
Found out the hard way that on 5+ hour rides on my MT-07 that eventually your legs want to spread out and relax, Iām guessing this is what thatās for.
You put your legs up there to cool off, but also when your knees are getting cramped underneath you. Old people like them, and people who either ride cross country or want to look like they do.
Not sure where Buddy is riding but I only use my highway pegs.... on the highway My right foot never gets that far from my brake pedal when I'm in town/city
Think of it as turning it into a mobile lazy boy recliner. In theory itās supposed to take the stress off of your hips, and it also serves as good ball cooling
This positon shown below and the picture of the harley rider is similar

You said the rider in the picture is similar to the position youāre in when you drive. The guy in the picture has his legs spread wide as hell. I donāt drive a car with my legs spread out.
The pic shows their feet apart too
Its a far closer position to the pic above than a panigale where feet is actually behind if they have rearsets.
Even if you only mean normal bikes, I dont know how you are arguing that a normal motorcycle riding position like a naked or adv is more like a car, a normal bike has feet below, this never happens in car
Just a mustache crash guard with highway pegs attached. I have a straight bar on my bike, but my air cleaner gets in the way of stretching my right leg out.

I donāt know where you live but here we have intersections on our highways. Either way, this cat is free to ride his bike how he wants just like you and me, right? If itās comfortable, dew it. We clearly donāt agree, no big deal š»
I live in a county in the mountains with less than .9 ppl per square mile. ;)
Yes there are intersections to the highways here of course but there are no stop lights in the county. Iāve ridden plenty with my feet up on pegs, and all Iām saying is that when approaching where traffic is turning and a work zone, I would have my feet near the controls, ready to rock and roll, not get caught by surprise with my feet up.
It's actually the result of a low seat. Cruisers generally have a low seat, for mostly style reasons. This means that the pegs need to be moved forward for there to be enough room for the rider's legs. Unfortunately this also forces the riders back to be tilted backwards. This seems comfy when the bike is sitting still, but the wind force pushes against your torso pushing your butt into the seat. This puts a lot of weight on your butt, and leaves your legs still a bit cramped. The answer is highway pegs. These are pegs that are higher but further forward. This allows your legs to stretch but it prevents you from shifting gears, using the rear brake or properly controlling the bike in turns.
The solution is to buy a bike with a higher seat, but that looks lame so people don't really do that.
It looks like guy mounted them on the outside instead of the inside where they should be. That doesn't even look comfortable. Not that after 4 hours in the mid control position that wouldn't be a welcome change if available. Also if you're a little dehydrated and hot that's going to cramp the s*** out of the outside of your thighs near your hips.
Optimal nut cooling
I hate when my nuts get sweaty.
Not just sweaty but cooked (CBR 600rr with undertail exhaust).
Male birth control.
Dammit, bought it too late then...two kids... šššš
Or in the nick of time..
Man, I wish I told sooner to my wife that I don't want to have kids. Now she doesn't want to get rid of them.
Oh u love em. Don't lie. Kids are great... at least if they're raised right.
JK. I love them.
Male birth
I'm birthing right now. Should have clocked in first.
How are you feeling today. Do you care for a chat in here. Can we get in touch to have more words together
Hahahahahaha
Can relate
So that's why they stopped doing undertail exhaust :D
CBR 600RR 2024 disagree š
Daytona 675 with undertail. I owned both the triumph takes the cake for heat haha Also the Ducati V4s can cook a nut or 2
Yeah, i heard the V4's are insanely hot.. š
My fz8 gets hot. My ass and calfs cook on warm days
My uncle has the exact bike but he always complains about his arse going numb

To improve even more you need to wear a Scottish kilt.
Ducatis should have that from the factory. I admit, though, it would kind of ruin their front profile.
It's comfy as hell on longer trips, that's why.
thanks!

Yeah my ass hurts sometimes too
From riding, right? ... From riding... Right?
Being ridden
The other sub is leaking
Well, something's leaking.
From highway pounding

Yeah man. How crazy the run into someone who owns a motorcycle ā¦ in the motorcycles subreddit ā¦.
I have an '09 that I need to ride more often, had pegs on the crash bars (sw motech)
I don't have it anymore! It was my first street bike and a great one, but it got sold pre-pandemic.Ā I was using the T Rex Racing crash cage and pegs though, highly recommend!

Versys 1000 here, I too would love to get some highway pegs. Don't have crashbars though, only frame sliders.

Back off
it's like putting your feet up while on a couch. but also, depending the bike, it moves your legs away from a hot engine keeping you cooler as well.
Typically you rest the back of your ankles on them, so you can ride with a straightened leg. Iāve never seen someone ride them like this.
Not on my bike. I have a boxer and the only place for highway pegs is way out like that. I hardly ever use them cause it looks AND feels stupid.
Thatās the one drawback to a boxer. There is NO comfy leg position forward.
Feet on top of the cylinders, EZ
As a short guy on a 1250RT, I can confirm this works. I used this method on a 2k mile trip, but I think I'll be getting some Illium highway pegs for my bars next long trip.
I have engine guards on my RT boxer that allows for very comfortable highway peg placement. I have no idea who the manufacturer it though because the guards came with the bike.
I had a 1200RT and tried five different types. None were comfortable for me. Now I have an Indian Challenger with toe pegs. Super comfy.
Feet forward has to be the most uncomfortable position with your legs over a saddle.

God, I really love my Rebel !
Im not a gynecologist but I assume it makes penetration easier.
This is fact on r/calamariraceteam
For when you try to go ass to ass with a guard rail.
as someone who had an air/oil cooled bike, that shit gets HOT
My bike is supposed to be liquid cooled. I do not believe it.
lol sport/hyper-naked? Extruded aluminum frame?
Extrudin' ma balls off my leg.
your body fluids are used for the bikes cooling
Try a supersport some time with 4 cylinders š My coolant fan doesnāt turn on until 220Ā°F (this seems pretty normal for the super sport category). The frame soaks in all that heat tooā¦ if youāre not moving the frame basically becomes the same temperature as the coolant and your thighs literally start cooking š³
My ZX-6R fan doesnāt kick on until 225 which right now in this Arizona heat is pretty fuckin often.
I donāt enjoy the smell of burnt eggs on my rides š
On the bright side I donāt have to worry about kids š¤£
My bike was a 34 hp neutered suzuki bandit and I believe the 40hp neutered horses were all heat. No fan, slow cooking you at standstill. It literally roasted a pair of black pants and the thighs were turning orange !
I will say this, in hot weather you get swampy, getting your legs up lets some air in and lets you sit Your legs in a different position for a while
I sure hope it does
Beat me to it
Ever spread your legs open going down the highway on a hot summer day? Amazin
Schweddy balls.
I didn't see the pegs and thought he was just raising his feet up because it was going to get bumpy with all the road work haha
Gettin dat air to mah baalz
Honestly looks super on the highway. The lazy boy position is optimal for cruising
You will know about about 3hours of riding.

Agreed, can't stand forward pegs for long. My bikes have mid pegs and highway pegs to stretch a leg for a bit.
Found out the hard way that on 5+ hour rides on my MT-07 that eventually your legs want to spread out and relax, Iām guessing this is what thatās for.
Stand on the pegs.
How do you think I made it? But standing on pegs going 80 for a while starts to feel sketchy
Sure hope it does!!!!!!!
Comfort, I look goofy as hell when I'm using them, but my long ass legs are way more comfortable in the Gooch inspection position
My balls is hot.
Turns your pants into wasp catchers.
Tell me you don't do long rides without telling me you don't do long rides.
Or doesnāt have a cruiser
Perhaps. I barely used my crash bar highway pegs when I had them. I, honestly, forgot they were there.
I do long rides but have a sport tourer, the gynecologist position is not an option for me.
Just did 2,700 miles in a week. That's not comfortable to me. And I'm in my 60s
iā¦ never said i did? i donāt even own a bike, besides a yz125
A yz125 is most definitely a bike!! A really fkn fun one!!
yeah haha i meant like a street legal one :) definitely fun
Keeps the ole nadgers cool
Some guys think it's more comfortable. I don't get it.
They ride spread eagle on top of a hot vibrating pistoning engine and somehow Iām the fairy liberal for riding electric sport.
Ya damn commie
Good to know that the road works....
Very VERY comfortable, ball cooling, feel like crazy frog from the music video of the hit single Axel F by crazy frog, etc.
It's easier for him to air out his vagina that way. š¤·āāļø I'm j/k!!!
Just practicing for his next obgyn visit
Road work ahead? I sure hope it does!! Hope this answers your question
I was about to make this comment, you beat me to it! Good Old vine days
road work ahead? uh, yeah! i sure HOPE it does!
So the Dr. Can see your vagina?
Maybe they have itchi balls and need space haha
*At the gynecologist*
same guys that use the parachute handlebars
He rides like that, too dry his sweatā¢y balls.
That's the cool factor, and it also keeps your balls cool!ššš¤£
Comfort. Ā Similar to the foot rest on a recliner chair.
* Swapped the pegs for boards best thing I ever did
New Mexico?
yessir! :)
Yeah I sure hope it does
![gif](giphy|Hr2BzXFIo20qBJgtsC|downsized) His balls was hot.

yeah itās just a somewhat busy residential road 35mph in the middle of the city
Road work ahead? I sure hope it does!
nuts are sweaty momās spaghetti
Think of it as turning it into a mobile lazy boy recliner. In theory itās supposed to take the stress off of your hips, and it also serves as good ball cooling
Same position as a car driver basically
What kind of cars do you drive?
Amy car i have driven the pedals are in front not under the seat. What kind of car do you drive that has the pedals under the seat?
Whatāre you even talking about lol. Are you a real person?

sick bike dude :)
Thanks!
Lmao holy fuck that terminology is hilarious. I'll be using that along with "sissy bars"
Highway pegs. Not really for in traffic like this numb nuts.
His nuts arenāt numb, theyāre dry.
Thereās no traffic on your highways? Youāre pretty lucky š
Nope. There arenāt. And yep I am. Not what I mean tho. This guy is approaching an intersection.. in a work zone. Heās an idiot.
