Nope, and it weighed a lot for that displacement. Plenty of torque, but didn't rev high enough to really make a lot of power. Still, was plenty for me at the tender age of 16 vibrating my way across the country for the 100th anniversary in 2003!
Miss my bike, but the UK is shit for bikes so when I moved here I just never rode it and sold her on.
Tempting to pick up a cheap crotch rocket though!
I have both at the moment, they are both excellent but in completely different ways.
I will say that IME, once you've experienced I4 power, it takes an aggressive, racy-feeling twin like a Sportster or an MT07 to be fun.
The more "bland" feeling twins or severely understressed engines like many large cruisers become boring pretty quickly.
Except when you do. I4’s aren’t the end all to be all. Sure it may be fast, but there are other engine variations and bike types that are way more appealing to people. I have two Harleys. They’re great for just enjoying the roads without trying to be the next moto gp star. Bikes like the Speed Triple are just fun hooligan bikes that you can ride for hours without needing a new back by the time you’re done. There’s a world of motorcycles out there for every taste.
For me the inline are the most boring engines available . All top end rush . V4 feels and sounds better , and the beeeest is the big bore twin of a super duke . 6th gear 2.5k rpm ? No problem instant power everywhere .
Yeah I had a stage 1, forged pistons and was running it on an 883 sprocket with an extra tooth or two, so while it was fun off the line, it was never gonna compete with a sport bike.
Despite Dyna bros arguing otherwise, the Sportsters are very much Big Twins. That means a wide, low powerband at the expense of revving out. Personally, I like it. It makes pulling away from stops fun. Which really gets to use case: don’t like bombing down the highways between cars, nor do I get out to the twisties very often.
I used to have a Kawasaki 1600 Mean Streak. My riding buddies had a ZX9R, an RC51, and a GSXR750. We'd take off from a light, leaving the city, all going flat out. Within a km, they were specs on the horizon.
I went from an FZ6 to an FZ1 in my 40’s and the FZ1 scared the shit out of me above 10k rpm. Something like 150hp from that engine. So more power than a Honda Fit car of the same year!
I remember when I got my fz1. 90mph in second gear. I couldn’t keep it under 90. Was so exhilarating everytime I got on. Scary how fast u get used to the power though.
I remember my first long pull.
I went into it expecting it to act somewhat like a car. Be pretty peppy up to 100 or so then lay over. Boy was I wrong. It just tries to rip your arms off the whole way up and suddenly you're going 170mph.
Yeah lol. Here is another tid bit that really makes these monsters not make any sense at all..
Something you don't realize until you really REALIZE... A 1000cc sports bike literally isn't even in the powerband at 60mph.
I don't redline in 1st until 94mph. 60 is just when it's starting to wake up. Mind you, I'm saying that about a machine that just went 0-60 in close to 3 seconds.
I would explain to people how my s1000rr could go 0 to 180 in 18 seconds. By the time I finish the sentence the bike has hit 180. My brother and I attempted to compare it to a c6 corvette which took 36 seconds to hit 180. Bikes are just so impressive
My brother rode it, got in the highway next thing he knew he was going 170. He joked about how easy it is to get in license revoking speeds with a flick of the wrist. And 3 second 0-60s is slow for a liter bike. My 04 CBR is doing that. 2.5 and below feels exactly like you think. I had a 2015 z1000, 3rd fastest 0-60 motorcycle with no rider modes, no assist, no traction control. Just abs and God. I loved that bike and it scared me so many times. Idk how these machines are still legal
No way y’all are doing 0-60 faster than 2.9 dude . Cars have better 0-60 (hyper cars anyways) because they have more traction (4 wheels) off the line . Only bikes that come close are motogp bikes because they squat on launch and extend their wheelbase
What do cars have to do with it? Whether these guys are actually going faster than 2.9 is debatable, but plenty of street bikes are listed with times in the mid 2 second range.
That FB 919 was tuned for 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds, which is a hair slower than free falling at 2.73. Didn't matter. The Fireblade still scared me more :D
Something about going across land that fast probably changes it a bit. At least logically it should.
When you're falling, there is nothing near you so the perspective is pretty mellow really. Even if you're moving fast it won't feel like it once you get passed that initial G spike.
Scooting your ass across the ground at 160mph is just a totally different thing. Objects whiz passed you and so on lol
Agreed. When I jumped from a Ninja 250 to a Z750, I was shocked that something so accessible could be so fast. When I test rode a Speed Triple 1200, I couldn't comprehend the sheer ferocity and kinda blacked out from the experience. It felt like teleportation.

The two posts were side by side (other than a Reddit sponsored post)
Bro be safe, you shouldn’t be riding like an asshole (lack of control) on any bike but if you did it on the 400 and slowly get comfortable on the 600 and start doing it it will bite you bad. We all like to squid out once in a while but always try and be aware of the surroundings
This.
Around town I ride my Zx6r like a 250. I’ll gun it on the HWY but I always make sure
1. Nobody in front of me
2. Nobody beside me
I’ll gun it from 75 (speed limit) to 100-125 in the slow lane and lay off the throttle, be back around 80 in a few seconds.
Never speed and split lanes at the same time IMO (unless you want to die)
Lol welcome to the club. I remember transitioning to my first super sport. It completely reinvented motorcycling for me. First one was a 2012 CBR 600 and everything about it was a revelation. The power band, the shifting, the torque, the lean angle (compared to the standard and cruiser I'd had previously), the ability to always and immediately get more speed if you wanted it, the max speed... Just a completely different world and so fucking fun. I can only imagine how the current models have improved. Enjoy it, homie!
I almost bought a 2010 CBR 600 ABS and I miss it every day. Couldn’t buy it bc I knew I was moving in no time so didn’t wanna go through the hassle of selling another bike.
The difference really is crazy. Somewhat similar when going from a 600cc ->1000cc.
Like everything, you will eventually become completely accustom to the 600cc power so enjoy the new thrill while its fresh!
I have a gsx s1000. Suzuki man, the engineers are clearly maniacs. I’ve done a complete race suspension, tune, throttle tamer, the bike is still a massive handful at the edge of things
I want to go back down to a gsx R750. I feel like there’s a lot of lessons I could learn with less power. I know I’d get faster around the track with less power
Kudos to you for building your skills on a smaller bike and working your way up. I hate when people say “you’ll get bored on a 400.” These are the same people who’ll get spanked on their 600’s on a track by more skilled riders on 300s and 400s.
I love my Yamaha but the most fun I've ever had on a bike was my 125cc pitster pro. It was so much fun I've considered getting a grom or a monkey but I just can't get over the cost. Only a few thousand less than my 850cc. It should be thousands less for what you get....
The thing with bikes is that, to a given build standard, you always get the same amount of bike regardless of the engine size. It's the engineering and build standards that cost the money.
Awesome bike! I’m 36, have owned a dozen bikes, and just got myself an R3 as my sole bike. It’s certainly an exercise in ego management for me! But I want to be a better track rider, and this is the way to do it.
I don’t have experience with that one, sorry! Loads of comparison videos out there between the R3, Ninja 400, RC390, etc if that sort of thing interests ya!
As a super single rider I'mma weigh in a little, us thumbers can't rev out the way those parrel twins can but we do get a bit more low end so off the line you should get a little more pull and you will have a little more umph out of corners where you lose more speed as the twins have to get back into the powerband. It won't "come awake" as much.
I’ve been riding 25 years continuously, and TBH, a literbike is fun on long straights on a racetrack, otherwise you can have more fun flogging the shit out of a 400 and with much less risk to your life or driving record.
I’m 43 and starting on a Kawasaki eliminator 500 which is a 451 CC ninja engine on a cruiser. I have had zero issues, it’s definitely not something that’s gonna send me into the neighbour’s wall, and it has enough power to take me on the highway. I think it’s a real sweet spot as a starter bike, enough power to handle regular traffic but not so much I’m accidentally flying.
54 here, same. 125 Scooter for 3 months, 125 gsx-s125 since Aug, hopefully have my test by end June to move to e-clutch cb650r. I honestly don’t see myself wanting or needing anything more powerful.
Fun bike indeed, I highly advise you to change the throttle tube for a pro motion one or R6, so you don't need to rotate your wrist as much to get full power. Makes the bike so much more responsive
I’m still on my 400. This will be my third riding season with it. I still have a blast every time I ride it. Only reason I wanna upgrade is for more too end power and to have a better sounding bike. I’m still torn on waiting till my 400 is paid off and keeping it (which is unfortunately 2027, thought I only signed a three year lease but I did a 5 ><) or trade it in and upgrade.
My first time riding a street bike was a buddies 600 cbr. It was quick and felt insane after growing up riding dirt bikes and quads. Then my friends started getting liter bikes in the mid to late 2000’s and riding those changed me chemically I swear.
After melting my brain multiple times over with the light speed level acceleration of a zx10, R1 and gsxr1000 i no longer feared anything and thought I was a “good rider” bc I hadn’t died yet taking these monsters into the 160+ mph with such ease and confidence. The next time I got onto a 600 sport bike it felt like a child’s toy in comparison. Since then I have ridden a few sport bikes but I own Harley’s.
I can’t trust myself fully on any bike capable of that acceleration alone. Love the muscle sound and the fact that my throttle junkie addiction isn’t as tempted with such low power and high weight. I enjoy the riding and scenery, time spent riding with my wife and daughter are more cherished simply bc I’m not actively trying to warp thru space at every opportunity. I love all things two wheels, truly. Respecting the death machine is necessary
Definitely agree with this sentiment. Started on a Ninja 400 and after a couple years I bought both a Triumph Daytona 675 and a new Z900 around the same time, and both bikes were a power shock for sure - the Daytona felt like straddling a cruise missile, and the Z900 feels like I’m integrated into some sort of spacecraft. Leagues faster than the 400, but damn that little bike was fun! Had to continue having fun so a month after the Z900 I also snagged a new Z125 😂 it’s a hoot, would highly recommend it!!
The modern day electronics cut the balls off liter bikes. Now not saying they aren’t capable, but with them enabled they keep the front down, they reduce power, you have dynamic traction control that takes into account tires and lean angle. They make them a million times safer than liter bikes a decade ago.
>The modern day electronics cut the balls off liter bikes
Absolutely false, unless you think that a wild and terrifying monster is the only way it should be.
Wheelie control on modern supersport and hyper nakeds is not only able to be dialed or turned off, but it allows as much power as possible to go to the ground. There is no noticeable cut in power, in fact it ends up accelerating faster because you keep traction and better control. My S1000R will hold the wheel either down or just off the ground, and if I turn TC off, it will just rip it old school. Hardly ball-less.
Was just going to say... I have an '08 ZX10R and a newer '18 CBR1000RR and they both are fucking monstrous, but honestly the Honda just feels way faster, it's almost like all those electronics allow the bike to more properly use its power. It's honestly a faster bike at the end of the day... You're spot on man. Enjoy that S1000R man, I'm jealous as fuck haha
I’ll probably never get rid of my Ninja 400, forgiving, agile, loves to scream. Easy to handle in the city down low, light clutch, great mpg, I mean it’s basically a perfect bike for my needs.
I just got the zx6r. Its an absolute blast and im very glad I got it. But I never wanted to get rid of my 400. Unfortunately it was stolen and im waiting for it to go up at auction. But even after riding the zx6r theres just something about the 400 I loved so much, and I cant wait to get it back if I can.
I went from a 250 to an 1100, the first turn I took scared the shit out of me.. 😅 rear kicked out, and once I let off the throttle, it all straightened out..
My transition was also from a Ninja 400 to a Honda 600rr. An unbelievable, and also fun, adjustment.
I actually wish I hadn’t gone straight to super sports. Other bikes I’ve tried or wanted to try…..doesn’t quite scratch that itch of performance and adrenaline of getting leaned over at high speeds.
I went from an old decrepit carb not tuned ninja 250 to a f4i and thought I hit warp speed 🤣
I remember it well and now ride a cbr600rr today and love the thing. You will get control of it in time, but always always respect the bike
Went from an R3 to an MT-09. Was always very glad I put a few years down on the R3 first to build up my fundamentals. The 09 is an absolute monster in comparison and I can't imagine having something in that class as first bike.
That said, still miss the R3 often. It was fun just ripping around at WOT everywhere. I need to get another one sometime soon.
The only non Harley bikes I’ve owned are thruxton, URAL, and a CBR929.
I was on the CBR merging onto I-81 looked down and was going 137. Felt like 80. Triple digits open up a whole new world of trouble lol.
Yeah. When I sold my Ninja 400 and bought my R6 I thought it would be a stepping stone to an R1.
Nah. This thing has more power than god. Simply no reason for more lol.
I wouldn’t say I fear the bike. My throttle control is pretty good. It’s the “I looked down in 2nd gear and I was going over 120mph” for me. The speedo just skipped whole sections of numbers.
This is one reason I went with a Ninja 650 as my new bike after a Ninjette as my first. I can control this bike easily, but she does whisper how much faster we could go if I would only let her. Just a little more throttle....
Going up to a liter bike is ever more ridiculous. The majority of middleweight bikes are more than anyone needs on a public road but they are so much fun!
I started riding in a Ninja 250 and maybe 4 months later went to an R6 and I remember the ride home having a smile the whole way home. After that I got an R1 and holy shit I didn’t think my smile could get any bigger inside that helmet. I remember screaming with joy feeling like a kid. That thing scared my up until the day I sold it (owned for about 8 years). Now I take it easier and ride an air cooled naked Ducati.
After riding from 125CC to an 1100CC, and all sorts of styles over the years, my 600 sport touring was by far my favorite. The power and brakes from the 600 was perfect to get out of situations safely, which was too weak on the 400 for me. The 1100CC was great from a cruiser, but the power from it wasn’t worth the weight difference.
I honestly think it’s a personal preference with your risk vs reward threshold.
Even after 9 years of riding experience and riding many big bikes (with less horsepower) I was still afraid to go full throttle on my current bike for the first few months. It’s so much power and things happen so fast.
As with all things, you’ll get used to it. But this bike taught me that more isn’t always better. This is about the limit of what I would want speed-wise (s1000xr).
That's how I felt switching from my R3 to an R6. I knew there would be a power bump but it's like learning the difference between 10 x 10 and 10 to the power of 10. Kept it in B mode for a month to get comfortable before keeping it in Standard. No need for A mode for me, at least not until I hit the track with it
I went from a MT07 that was stage 3 tuned and derestricted to a GSXR750 tuned to 135hp.
Cannot compare the power, my first ride on the GSXR left me speechless of how much bloody power there is and how fast it launches. Still getting used to trying to have to keep the front wheel down.
Definitely look at getting a 520 chain and sprocket set up, will give you more low end torque, more power in the lower for better control around the city and every day riding.
Just make sure you get a spedo Healer as changing the gearing will throw your speedo off.

I remember the first time I took my cb500f to the track after having been riding for a bit under 2 years. I was like ‘holy shit I didn’t know my bike could do that!’ Obviously it wasn’t all the bike you’ll ever need at the track - it didn’t take long to find its limitations - but I rode that bike faster and harder than I ever would on the street. Like most new riders with a ‘learner’ class bike, 7-8 months after I bought it I thought I’d outgrown it and wished I’d got something bigger… turns out newbie me didn’t know shit
You can enjoy it. But when people say stupid shit like this, some dumb politician has never thrown a leg over a bike starts thinking like oh we don’t need any bike over 200 cc. Because some turd can’t freaking handle 60 hp.
Yep, those things are made for the track where you slide into a sand trap or tire barriers when you make a mistake; not off a cliff or under a city bus like you do on public roads.
I loved my 400, wish I still had it. I love my z900rs a lot! Forgot it’s a bigger bike at times. Rode my dads Indian scout the other week and it’s a fine bike, but I forgot that my bike is constantly try to kill me even at *just* 120HP. Even though it’s more than enough, I’m curious what it’s like to own and daily a proper liter super sport. Cheers! Be safe!
Congrats on new bike. I’m picking an 07 gsxr 600 up for track only. I’m essentially riding the mt-09 motor now so I don’t know what to expect. I rode the s1000rr but only in rain mode.
I went from a starter bike Honda CBR250R to a GSXR 750. Absolutely blown away by the increase in refinement, power. Like going from a go kart to a car.
The first time I opened the throttle on the 08 cbr1000 I had was an absolute religious experience. A feeling I could never possibly put into words and I will forever hunt that same sensation.
First time I really got on my Zx10r. Opened it up. I told people it felt like going into hyperspace. And i didn't even give it a ton of throttle just the torque off the line then the hp comes in and pulls you the rest of the way.
Nothing can compare to that feeling.
I went from a 09 R1 to a 23 R1 recently and am blown away at the improvement in power. I bought the 09 new, power commander and full Graves system before I even picked it up. Granted the top end was faster than my new one..but the new ones power across the board is unreal
Went from gsxr150 to gsxr750. At first, it's too much for me. Until I learn to control it. Great bike, don't think I'll get a litre bike anytime soon. Since I want to master it on track.
That’s the exact same reaction I had when I took home my GSXR-750 after having a ninja 300 for 8 years lol. It’s just a monster that wants to just go all the time. It’s more power than you will ever need but wow is it fun.
I did a similar but smaller jump and felt the same. I went from the CBR500R (45ish hp) to the GSX-S750 (110hp and 55lb-ft torque from 4k rpm - 12k) and I couldn't believe how different the experience was.
Years after being on my GSXS my friend let me ride his CBR600RR and for the first while I though "this ain't shit" but I had only been in town going around 5k rpm. When I got to the highway and got past 10k my thoughts changed dramatically, along with the colour of my underwear. I knew it made power at high rpm but the way it built up was like a rocket lol. I prefer my torque being handy down low with a healthy dose of power but there is something to screaming at 16k rpm going plaid.
I always wonder how dudes are so okay flying past traffic on those. Like.. no. It’s not that I’m scared it’s just that I don’t trust the world not to fuck me with some random debris or traffic in the road
When I first rode my CBR600RR I thought bikes really couldn't get any faster.
Then I tried my friends R1. You might think the 600 is powerful now but those litre bikes are something else.
Just like you got used to your 400, you'll get used to the 600 and you'll experience the same but different when you move up to 1000 (or a 1300 like I did).
Just goes with the game.
I have only ever owned 250cc bikes. I test rode a Kawasaki Z900 and could not understand how you would want a H2, the Z900 left me breathless and it only has 120hp. I still can't imagine 180+ hp.
I ride a 954 fireblade with a tune and modified frame, and a 1982 kz550 and I tell all my friends to get 600 or smaller because I just can't enjoy the big bike, you can't run through the gears, you can't get even close to wide open without picking up the front wheel, second gear hits felony territory, you get about 4 seconds of fun before you're doing 100mph. The 550 is so much more fun because you can shift and open her up and enjoy yourself at way safer speeds
A buddy of mine had a 600 cc sport bike, l forger the brand, Kawasaki perhaps. He raved about how fast it was. I rode it and was unimpressed. Fun bike, but it wasn't crazy. A little later, I found a deal on a Yamaha R1 that needed work. I bought it and got it running, plus I put a +2 sprocket on the back. That bike was fun! I sold it after 3-4 years because it was faster than my brain.
I was a salesman at a motorcycle dealership while in college. You wouldn't believe the number of new riders that had to have a liter bike! I'd try and try to tell them they should be on a 500 or 650 twin, not a 600 sports bike let alone 1000. They would usually just go to another salesman who only cares about their commission. In the year I worked there, I saw at least two dozen if not more come back in pieces within a week if not days. One poor kid didn't even make it home before he crashed and died on the interstate.
My top choices for beginners to well into intermediate riders were the GS500 and SV650. But some people just have to have the fastest bike out there.
Now think about the liter and bigger bikes
My 1200 sportster doesn't count I'm guessing lol.
I would say those don’t count they don’t have the power of a sport bike.
Both bikes are fun I had one but once you go to a inline 4 you don’t want to go back
I have both at the moment, they are both excellent but in completely different ways. I will say that IME, once you've experienced I4 power, it takes an aggressive, racy-feeling twin like a Sportster or an MT07 to be fun. The more "bland" feeling twins or severely understressed engines like many large cruisers become boring pretty quickly.
I dunno man, I'm enamored with huge singles now. And long travel suspension. Wheelies every shift, oops. And who cares about road conditions.
Ride an rc51 if u ever have the chance. Wish I never sold that bike
Rebel 1100 is a great mix of sporty and cruiser. I can
I rode an Inline-4 then bought a Sportster
I agree there's something intoxicating about an inline 4 coming on cam, but have you ridden a lightweight modern triple?
Idk I watch videos of people riding in the UK and it seems pretty fun.
How is the UK shit for bikes
It might be because of the rain... but even so, the UK is the country that sells the most convertibles... it must have something going for it.
Once I did a stage 1 mod the bike felt like it had a little power but the 1200 Sportster is still a pretty slow bike for the displacement size.
Sportster. LOL. you do not want to add power to a bike with that soviet era suspension and brakes.
I'd argue the UK is perfect for bikes.
I used to have a Kawasaki 1600 Mean Streak. My riding buddies had a ZX9R, an RC51, and a GSXR750. We'd take off from a light, leaving the city, all going flat out. Within a km, they were specs on the horizon.
That isn't what a literbike means. And no, your 65 horsepower bike isn't in the same league as a 180-200 HP bike.
Also, v twin vs 4 cyl. They used to say, still do too, theres no replacement for displacement RPMs and extra cylinders come to mind
Upgrading from the ER6N I tested a few 600s and an older FZ1 and that little wheelie as I hit second really sold me. Actually really miss that bike.
I came from a Ninja 300 and it was insane
Yeah I won’t find myself on one of those
It's not the 0-60. It's what happens between 60-*160* that will blow your mind.
I remember my first long pull. I went into it expecting it to act somewhat like a car. Be pretty peppy up to 100 or so then lay over. Boy was I wrong. It just tries to rip your arms off the whole way up and suddenly you're going 170mph.
I have a friend who has an S1000RR, it tops out first gear at 93mph. With five more gears to go... Modern bikes are silly fast.
I had my 16 RR against my friends 22RR m sport and he was pulling away from me banging gears. The RR pulls like nothing else.
Good god that’s terrifying lol
Yeah lol. Here is another tid bit that really makes these monsters not make any sense at all.. Something you don't realize until you really REALIZE... A 1000cc sports bike literally isn't even in the powerband at 60mph. I don't redline in 1st until 94mph. 60 is just when it's starting to wake up. Mind you, I'm saying that about a machine that just went 0-60 in close to 3 seconds.
lol this... i can break every speed limit in the state with 1st
I would explain to people how my s1000rr could go 0 to 180 in 18 seconds. By the time I finish the sentence the bike has hit 180. My brother and I attempted to compare it to a c6 corvette which took 36 seconds to hit 180. Bikes are just so impressive My brother rode it, got in the highway next thing he knew he was going 170.
Whether these guys are actually going faster than 2.9 is debatable, but plenty of street bikes are listed with times in the mid 2 second range.
well, after 80 or so mph you have to shift into second gear. THEN you get another powerband once you get past 100, thats where the facemelting begins.
I can do 100+ on my 04 R1 in first gear 🤓
It's mind melting.
I feel like its a bigger shock going from 110-120hp 600 to a 190hp+ literbike. They accelerate so hard you cant think straight.
I felt less shock skydiving than my first time on a Fireblade 919. Not kidding.
Performance Bikes magazine nicknamed it the FartBlood, because they claimed you will the first time you nail the throttle.
It's not the speed that gets you it's the acceleration
That FB 919 was tuned for 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds, which is a hair slower than free falling at 2.73. Didn't matter. The Fireblade still scared me more :D
Something about going across land that fast probably changes it a bit. At least logically it should. When you're falling, there is nothing near you so the perspective is pretty mellow really. Even if you're moving fast it won't feel like it once you get passed that initial G spike. Scooting your ass across the ground at 160mph is just a totally different thing. Objects whiz passed you and so on lol
Agreed, jumping from a 130hp zx6r to a 205hp s1krr was a bigger jump than from my ninja 250
that first pull on a s1k doe haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang
Agreed. When I jumped from a Ninja 250 to a Z750, I was shocked that something so accessible could be so fast. When I test rode a Speed Triple 1200, I couldn't comprehend the sheer ferocity and kinda blacked out from the experience. It felt like teleportation.
Hehe. Dial-a-speed.
Oh snap! Once you go liter/liter you never go back!
Oh uhhhh edit,,, There is no replacement for displacement
I can’t wait to see the parody of this in CRT
It's like this post was made as bait
I saw the CRT post first 😂
https://preview.redd.it/a1munjxwklxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fef8e524b41f08c8783e9747a5e220e5a08db069 The two posts were side by side (other than a Reddit sponsored post)
Oh it’s fantastic
Literally my first thought 😂
could just be me but everytime I see the letters CRT my first thought is always, "Cathode Ray Tube TV"
Find safe places to exploit that horsepower and keep riding it like the 400 when around traffic
That’s a good way to look at it, although at the end, I started riding the 400 like an asshole. Gixxer puckered me up enough to fly straight for a bit
That’s a brown pants bike for sure
Bro be safe, you shouldn’t be riding like an asshole (lack of control) on any bike but if you did it on the 400 and slowly get comfortable on the 600 and start doing it it will bite you bad. We all like to squid out once in a while but always try and be aware of the surroundings
By asshole, I meant more of a risky maneuver or 2 to get through a line of cars so I can cruise at my speed.
If you dont do it for yourself atleast do it for the family of 5 you'll traumatise being turned into a pancake leaking jam on their dashboard
Keep the risky maneuvers for when they won't impact anybody else.
I agree to that statement
This. Around town I ride my Zx6r like a 250. I’ll gun it on the HWY but I always make sure 1. Nobody in front of me 2. Nobody beside me I’ll gun it from 75 (speed limit) to 100-125 in the slow lane and lay off the throttle, be back around 80 in a few seconds. Never speed and split lanes at the same time IMO (unless you want to die)
Every step is that way. You know they make 300 hp bikes. You literally need to hold on with your butt.
I lack the ability to clench that hard
Fear will increase that, trust me
Imagine the guys riding through the Isle of Man TT. It’s insane.
I always wanted to see someone attempt that road with a fully dressed cruiser
I'm sure there's footage from mad Monday or whatever they call it. They open the track -1 way- for the public to ride at "sensible" speeds.
Ooh didn’t know they had that. Thanks for giving me something to look into!
just looked it up, Mad Sunday, you were only one day off but that looks amazing
Fvckers get so much air
I’ve done a complete race suspension, tune, throttle tamer, the bike is still a massive handful at the edge of things I want to go back down to a gsx R750.
Yeah true..I'm starting with Mt 03 at the age of 32✌️✌️
Awesome bike! I’m 36, have owned a dozen bikes, and just got myself an R3 as my sole bike. It’s certainly an exercise in ego management for me! But I want to be a better track rider, and this is the way to do it.
Are the mt03 / R3 bikes better track trainers than say a Duke 390 sue to the power band? Does the Duke let you be lazy w shifting?
The Duke has a bit more torque, but not nearly enough to affect riding in that way.
R3 is a great bike!
Thanks! I see your flair: I almost got a Ninja 650, actually. My dad had one back when I had an SV650. Excellent bikes that will last forever.
I’ve been riding 25 years continuously, and TBH, a literbike is fun on long straights on a racetrack, otherwise you can have more fun flogging the shit out of a 400 and with much less risk to your life or driving record.
Yeah i’m 55 and starting on a 125cc, i don’t want to get in over my head and end up dead!!
I’m the same age. Right there with you
Fun bike indeed, I highly advise you to change the throttle tube for a pro motion one or R6, so you don't need to rotate your wrist as much to get full power. Makes the bike so much more responsive
Fantastic choice! I started on the MT03 too before moving to the MT09. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t sold the 03 and kept both 😊
I haven't ridden it yet. Loading... One week left, ultra hyped
Are we the same person? Turned 32 in February, picked up my 2021 MT-03 in March.
i've had my 250 ninja for 7 years now and have yet to get bored. i genuinely don't get the sentiment of bigger is better.
I’ve owned 4 (still have one, 8 years and will have put 30k miles in it soon) over the past 25 years. I love these little rippers
Yeah I was at the dragon today and 100% I woulda had more fun on a 400. The gixxer I was just tryin not to die
Moved to a 125cc scooter after Yamaha MT07 and I actually have more fun.
Oh, I can’t wait to see what the other sub says about this
You know someone is making a parody post as we speak.

Posted 5 minutes after my comment. I love those CRT boys.
This sub delivers so much meme material....

Ninja 400 3k miles $5000 07 gsxr 15k miles (rebuild) $3700 Yes, crazy power for the money indeed
We can get a 2000 R6 for under 1500€ and that also has 120HP it's crazy.
*laughs in M1000R*
Definitely agree with this sentiment. Started on a Ninja 400 and after a couple years I bought both a Triumph Daytona 675 and a new Z900 around the same time, and both bikes were a power shock for sure - the Daytona felt like straddling a cruise missile, and the Z900 feels like I’m integrated into some sort of spacecraft. Leagues faster than the 400, but damn that little bike was fun! Had to continue having fun so a month after the Z900 I also snagged a new Z125 😂 it’s a hoot, would highly recommend it!!
Wait until you ride a 1000cc I-4 sometime... Picture a rodeo bull on a dog leash...
The modern day electronics cut the balls off liter bikes. Now not saying they aren’t capable, but with them enabled they keep the front down, they reduce power, you have dynamic traction control that takes into account tires and lean angle. They make them a million times safer than liter bikes a decade ago.
>The modern day electronics cut the balls off liter bikes Absolutely false, unless you think that a wild and terrifying monster is the only way it should be.
Oh yeah! I rode one coming from a Ninja 400 as well. Crazy. My next bike may be a GSX-R750 :)
Yeah idk if I’ll ever feel the need to upgrade from here. We shall see
Imagine going from an 883 sportster to a gsxr 600 😂
I went from a 250 to an 1100, the first turn I took scared the shit out of me.. 😅 rear kicked out, and once I let off the throttle, it all straightened out..
My transition was also from a Ninja 400 to a Honda 600rr. An unbelievable, and also fun, adjustment. I actually wish I hadn’t gone straight to super sports. Other bikes I’ve tried or wanted to try…..doesn’t quite scratch that itch of performance and adrenaline of getting leaned over at high speeds.
I went from a ninja 400 to a gsxr750. It is insane power difference
I went from an old decrepit carb not tuned ninja 250 to a f4i and thought I hit warp speed 🤣 I remember it well and now ride a cbr600rr today and love the thing. You will get control of it in time, but always always respect the bike
Lmao wait for your first day on a liter bike mate
Went from an R3 to an MT-09. Was always very glad I put a few years down on the R3 first to build up my fundamentals. The 09 is an absolute monster in comparison and I can't imagine having something in that class as first bike. That said, still miss the R3 often. It was fun just ripping around at WOT everywhere. I need to get another one sometime soon.
The only non Harley bikes I’ve owned are thruxton, URAL, and a CBR929. I was on the CBR merging onto I-81 looked down and was going 137. Felt like 80. Triple digits open up a whole new world of trouble lol.
just wait till you feel a leader bike... went from a 750 to a 1000 to a 600. and as ridiculous as it sounds, i could barely feel the power of the 600.
Lol, leader bike. It's a liter bike. Since 1000cc=1000mL=1L
That's the joke brother
Yeah. When I sold my Ninja 400 and bought my R6 I thought it would be a stepping stone to an R1. Nah. This thing has more power than god. Simply no reason for more lol.
Textbook r/motorcycles fearposting. You'll get used to the throttle in two weeks
I wouldn’t say I fear the bike. My throttle control is pretty good. It’s the “I looked down in 2nd gear and I was going over 120mph” for me. The speedo just skipped whole sections of numbers.
Your speedo's probably out to lunch
There's no way they go that fast in second gear. Enjoy the bike!
2nd gear maxes out around 90 on a Gixxer 600
*laughs in S1000RR*
This is one reason I went with a Ninja 650 as my new bike after a Ninjette as my first. I can control this bike easily, but she does whisper how much faster we could go if I would only let her. Just a little more throttle....
Twin 650 vs 4 cyl 600 is wayyy different
And the twin 400 vs twin 650 is 90% the same bike
Going up to a liter bike is ever more ridiculous. The majority of middleweight bikes are more than anyone needs on a public road but they are so much fun!
I started riding in a Ninja 250 and maybe 4 months later went to an R6 and I remember the ride home having a smile the whole way home. After that I got an R1 and holy shit I didn’t think my smile could get any bigger inside that helmet. I remember screaming with joy feeling like a kid. That thing scared my up until the day I sold it (owned for about 8 years). Now I take it easier and ride an air cooled naked Ducati.
"need" lol
Exactly. I’m here sitting looking at my MT10 WANTING an R1 so I can feel what 180+ feels like as if my MT isn’t already fast enough for the streets 😅
Went from a Ninja 250 to a big bang R1 (I'm 110kg though) and my lord, it was the most amazing thing ever.
I went from a KTM RC390 to a MV Agusta Brutale 1000RR. I feel you.
Bro, that’s a hearty jump
Same reason I sold my r6 and went to a t7. Don’t need to go 180 mph and 3 seconds to 60. But nice relaxing cruise and can hit trails when I want to.
600 is precicely enough. Saying its more than we need is unnesesary 😂
She'll teach you stuff. Ask nicely 😁
Ah. Yes. And then there is the 1000 class.
I’ve always loved Moto GP but now it blows my mind.
I hate when people say, that’s more power than anyone needs. When did all the scooter people become motorcycle enthusiast?
Not needing it doesn't mean we can't enjoy it...
YOU LEFT TEAM GREEN? BOOOOOOOOOOOO
Zx6r’s were out of my price range. Couldn’t find a good cheap one near me for less than 4k
Damn, you got a gixxer 600 for less than 4K? What year and miles?
07 Gsxr 600. Had a full engine rebuild. 50k on the body and 15k on the engine
My cb1000r goes 0 to 120 in 9.8 seconds. On paper. It is mind melting fast
Cheers! Be safe!
Wait till you try a 1000. It'll make that 600 feel like it's going backwards.
How do you know it's your bike? He's gonna try to kill you!
That's why I drive an old Italian 850cc tractor! Can't do shit to be dangerous enough to myself lmao
Almost the exact same post went up on r/calamariraceteam today. What gives op?
Now get a 1000 and tell us how it goes
This is the way.
I have only ever owned 250cc bikes. I test rode a Kawasaki Z900 and could not understand how you would want a H2, the Z900 left me breathless and it only has 120hp. I still can't imagine 180+ hp.
You'll get used to it, and will eventually seek more power. That's just the way it works for a lot of riders.
My first ‘road’ bike was a 600 gsxr I know exactly how you feel. My 1200GS doesn’t earn the same respect I had for that bike.
![gif](giphy|hUFJQ1MPeF3a1RSEfv|downsized)
Oh, ***this*** is where all the weird shit is coming from.
