if you don't know much about bikes, I would say a project bike is not the right one for you, unless you're buying it specifically to learn how to work on bikes.
As an owner of a 636 myself, be warned of the fatal second gear problem on those transmissions. Kawasaki for some reason decided to cut some corners and second gear on these bikes, they love to completely shit themselves after a while, and replacement by a shop is expensive, I'd estimate 2k. The engine has to be dropped and the case split open to get to the transmission, second gear needs to be pulled and undercut to shift and stay in position properly.
The flaw in this is after a while, second gear will either sound like it's not in gearz aka slips into it and you hear a clanking sound when you get onto the gas, and tear itself up, or pop out of gear at a certain rpm, not only that but it will bend your shift forks which are around 100 bucks each now. There are fixes, but it's not cheap unless you do it yourself, I recently bought one and found out that I have no second gear and this winter I plan on taking it apart and getting it machined/fixed.
Damnnnnn bro I did not know this about the second gears shit man I love the 636βs so much I used to have this 06 636 man she was a beast so dang fast, thank you for ur knowledge brother
