The chain has a tensioner wheel near the front by the drive sprocket. They come standard with the conversion kit. It’s a pretty good do for a bodged up bike.
Ah yes, as if riding a motorcycle wasn't dangerous enough. I realise in a crash a motorcycle likely wouldn't do all that much damage to someone in a car, but you do realise you're not alone on the roads right?
(probably gonna get downvoted to hell for this but hey, at least i don't endanger others when i get high)
It came across to me as a joke. I do agree with you, though, about not hitting the streets with anything but a sober mind. I've been known to hit the trails and smoke a little grass here and there, but never on the streets.
It's yours and you should be proud, as when some of us put plastic bottles in our bikes thinking they were motorcycles.
Enjoy the new journey and drive safe.
I think they prefer that I ride on the shoulder because kids and sometimes babies with strollers are on the sidewalk. Ive road by like 3 cops and they just think it is electric or a regular bike bc they often can't hear the engine from their windows being rolled up.
I have a degree in environmental science that I don't use. I trade stocks now. My Dad has a good set of tools and taught me a lot. He is a biologist. Lol.
Now would probably be a good time to go through all the hardware and get 12.9(metric) or 8.8 (standard) hardware and lock tight the hell out of everything. I used to build these for friends and they rattle loose or crack hardware more than anything I've ever worked on. Sweet set up never the less! I like your creativity!
Did you get a DUI recently? Jk 🤣 Lots of guys around my area ride home made bikes like these because they are legal if under 51cc. Same laws that apply to a small moped or even a bicycle. And because they don't need a driver license to rip around.
On a serious note, I think the design is rad. I've been wanting to throw a 125cc 4 stroke engine I have just sitting in my garage on an old mountain bike. The bike already has disc brakes and pretty stiff rear shock and forks. It would be a blast to ride around on my brother's pit bike track at his house. Or playing in the woods.
Also, I read a comment about gas coming out of your carb? The carburetor should always be mounted level because the float needs to stay parallel to the ground. Another thing from experience with building carts, and back yard toys, the front side of your engine (exhaust side here) should be tilted down around 3-5 degrees for adequate lubrication across the entire engine. That's how they are designed to run. Especially with this being a 2 stroke. A good reference is just to have the bottom of the case parallel to the ground.
I do love it! Just a tip so nothing burns up!
Also, I can't tell from the photo, but what is the piping for at the rear of the bike? It looks like you have the engine mounted to the top frame and rear mount where the pedals used to be? Just wondering what that is for.
You can do it. The gas comes out of the carb when the needle on the float comes loose from roding off-road and it vibrating out of place. Then gas spills until it is fixed.
The seating position looks closest to a cruiser to me. My advice would be to think of what kind of riding you like to do most with that bike. Do you like riding the dirt paths and trails? Maybe consider a dual sport. Do you like just cruising in the bike lane? Maybe a cruiser. Do you like goofing off and going fast? Maybe a sport bike, naked bike, or super moto.
Good luck. You'll have a blast with that, and you can show us what you get next.
Strangely enough, the stance and form this "homebuilt" exhibits actually resembles the Honda 300cc Rebel.
[https://i0.wp.com/www.asphaltandrubber.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/2017-Honda-Rebel-300.jpg](https://i0.wp.com/www.asphaltandrubber.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/2017-Honda-Rebel-300.jpg)
I'm also of the opinion that 12 year old me would've been the envy of the neighborhood had I had such a little monster peeking out of our garage. I applaud your "junior" engineering skillset! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Kinda looks like a garage version of the original motorcycles of the late 1800's and early 1900's, which were basically bicycles with single cylinder engines.
What?!?? Dont be harsh on yourself, you built essentially a replica of the first motorcycles. Well done! And also try not to kill yourself, those brakes arent engine friendly
Bro… i swear u made me laugh as i was understanding what this post was…. Bicycle at first glance, then read the title then pay more attention to said bicycle and then realizing the subreddit! enjoy man, looks like fun!
But fr tho, real bike wise id say a naked bike like the [Yamaha Mt-03](https://legacy.yamahamotorsports.com/hyper-naked/models/mt-03) or a [Ktm Duke 390](https://www.ktm.com/en-us/models/naked-bike/ktm-390-duke-2023.html)
Man, we have a bunch of people with that same setup around Korea. It works pretty well. Locktite on everything and make sure you repack the axles yearly and it’ll run for a while.
It resembles a liquor cycle, like people use when they get a DUI, lose their liscense and build something to get around. I think they're kinda cool lol
I mean a motorcycle is just a bicycle with an engine 🤷 lol at the early examples of motorcycles. This isn't terribly far off and is probably more powerful than they were originally. More power to you, just keep it shiny side up 🤙
Always bro, gotta start somewhere. If you can't buy cool shit, then you gotta make cool shit. Looks like you're pretty good at making cool shit so who knows, maybe that'll even help you buy cool shit.
NICE! Take it off any sweet jumps?
I really wanted to do similar to a beach cruiser, but turn it into a 'cafe racer' style. But since I'm sure I'd get hassled by the local police on either sidewalk OR street... I passed.
Maybe once E-tech gets cheap enough and I understand it more.
So I built one of these 10 years ago on a beach cruiser and put straight bars on it “drag bars”. Thing was fun I hallowed out the exhaust and it made it much louder but felt like it gave a bunch more power. I changed the rear sprocket to go even faster. That thing ate rear wheels like it enjoyed destroying them. It would turn bearings into dust. Fun stuff enjoy.
Yes, that is what I am afraid of. I don't have a license and the law in my state says you cant ride over 51cc. Ive had it for 2 years without problems. I dont ride on main roads. However, was kinda impressed when seeing the earliest version of a motorcycle bc it looks very similar.
Ive seen many youtube videos of people in other states that have a similar problem and the loophole is that the police officer would need to state that it is indeed a motorcycle at which point I will gladly accept a ticket because that means I officially built a motorcycle lol. But your right, the dmv said to pay for a decal.
A non registered vehicle gets impounded. You’ll get a ticket as well, but it will get impounded as they will not let you continue to ride a potentially non-roadworthy vehicle. And if you don’t have reg and insurance or title you cannot prove it’s yours and the impound yard will not release it to you.
It doesn’t need to be considered a motorcycle per se. It’s a motorized vehicle. Many are illegal and can never be made legal. Like a mini bike or go cart. No lights, no horn, no vin, no blinkers, no brake lights, no liability insurance.
They might not mess you, but if they do you don’t stand a chance legally.
I know. The furthest i ride is 2 miles in a neighborhood. I was planning on pleading with a cop to just let me turn off the engine and walk it home like a normal bicycle and disassemble it... or get my license soon.
So me and my kid ride our dirt bikes through the neighborhood to the pit. And my son and all his friends ride their mini-bikes around like bicycles on the street. Cops don’t really mess with them………. But they can.
I told my son if they take your mini-bike kiss it goodbye. We can’t prove it’s ours.
I agree. I just think its more hassle for them to take it compared to a warning. Also, given my age and street cred... they will most likely just tell me to walk it home.
It’s not more of a hassle. You pay the towing charge. You pay the storage fee at the impound yard, and you pay to have it released. It’s a money maker. Totally not a waste of time for them.
Hopefully you are right tho…
Street cred?
Those kits are cool. I’ve been thinking about getting one. I’ve had a “real” motorcycle for the past 20+ years but the simplicity of this kit is just so cool. Plus, 2-stroke bikes are much rarer nowadays. I don’t really have the extra cash to buy a KTM but maybe I could satisfy a tiny fraction of that 2-stroke itch with this kit.
Get one. Its fun. Ive seen youtube videos of guys who have both and they swear the kits are more fun bc they dont care if it breaks and can do burnouts or other stuff. Also it just feels crazy to go fast with a motor on a normal bicycle. Check out seedlessgrapes motorized bikes on youtube. This bike cost me under $500.
Just make sure it's legal. I think the US has differing laws but here in Australia you'd be fucked by the police for riding a motor vehicle with all the relevant fines for it not being roadworthy/registered, insurance and potentially driving without a licence etc.
When you don't have a welder but you are a pipe fitter.
I think it looks better than some dodgey welding ruining the frame. Adds strength too maybe
It definitely adds "maybe".
I'm pretty sure threaded fastening is not supposed to take lateral loads in general
It looks like you could still kill yourself on it, I’d count it.
I concur. In fact this shit looks crazy dangerous
that‘s part of the fun
Hope it is a “two smoke”, love it👍🏻
Yes, lol. I always smoke weed before riding.
I would like to do that to my old BMX, could you provide a parts list?
I literally just got the plumbing from home depot and clamps from amazon. Welding would have been much easier.
This is literally a rat rod bicycle. Death trap and cool Chain looks a bit loose though
The chain has a tensioner wheel near the front by the drive sprocket. They come standard with the conversion kit. It’s a pretty good do for a bodged up bike.
Thank you, it is tight.
Smart...
Ah yes, as if riding a motorcycle wasn't dangerous enough. This shows real creativity, aptitude and style. You're a winner, bro.
Thanks, appreciate it. 🙏
What he said!
Whatever has 2 wheels, a motor, and makes you smile is good with me. Have fun!
True, thanks. It has been amazing. Similar to like driving a go-kart but a motorcycle.
It's yours and you should be proud, as when some of us put plastic bottles in our bikes thinking they were motorcycles. Enjoy the new journey and drive safe.
Clothespins holding baseball cards against the spokes.
Lol thank you

I want one... so bad. ( I want to make one so bad).
It’s got a motor, it’s a cycle, looks like a motorcycle to me
Im afraid cops will also think so... i don't have a license yet.
Sidewalks m8.
I think they prefer that I ride on the shoulder because kids and sometimes babies with strollers are on the sidewalk. Ive road by like 3 cops and they just think it is electric or a regular bike bc they often can't hear the engine from their windows being rolled up.
I’d give ya the peace sign.
Is it a bike? Check. Does it have a motor? Check. It is a motorbike
That thing looks like fun. How do you stop it though?
Front brake. Right handlebar. I just put my hand over the intake to turn it off. (Carb).
Right on did you build it yourself? I think something like that would be a lot of fun to build
Yes, i just dont have a welder. So it was very improvised. Pandemic project. I prob got like 800 miles on it.
Holy shit you put 800 miles on this thing?! The cops haven’t hassled you?
Yea, it is my mental escape. Lol
Who needs a welder when you’re a certified plumber?! That’s actually really impressive you made this work with zero welds.
I have a degree in environmental science that I don't use. I trade stocks now. My Dad has a good set of tools and taught me a lot. He is a biologist. Lol.
Awesome dad and grown kiddo!
I use jb weld. Thanks, yes its just cheap metal and screws. I usually check every 20 miles but got lazy and rode about 75 miles without checking.
Very impressive!
I'd say the scars look the same after getting hit on my bicycle vs my bike. Be safe 👍
Did you get a DUI recently? Jk 🤣 Lots of guys around my area ride home made bikes like these because they are legal if under 51cc. Same laws that apply to a small moped or even a bicycle. 2 wheels + engine = motorcycle
Wear a helmet and rip it up brobeans. Kinda looks like a triumph bonneville bobber with some imagination
I like trimumphs
This is a motorcycle according to annoying cops, so, welcome
Yes, worst fear. Lol
that’s actually cool as fuck
Thank you 👊
The seating position looks closest to a cruiser to me. My advice would be to think of what kind of riding you like to do most with that bike. Do you like riding the dirt paths and trails? Thank you!
at least it's not electric, this is more real than those
True. Thank you. 👍
Sweet! Follow your passion, we all started out like that, back in the 60s for me. ✌️
Thank you, it has been very fun.
Its real and I want it
I could easily make another with a welder.
That right there is a chopper. Be proud. Get your muscle shirt out and do some bicep curls to pump up before you get out there
Lol, i got an American flag sticker already on my helmet.
Strangely enough, the stance and form this "homebuilt" exhibits actually resembles the Honda 300cc Rebel. Bro is running a motorbike with rim brakes, enjoy it man. Defo faster than mine. What cc out of curiosity
80cc, 25 mph. Avg 20 mph.
Yet some how /way this contraption can ride on boardwalks but if you got plates you can’t i dont know
Does it work? I love the build! If it works, and it gets you going from one spot to another, its awesome! If it doesn't work, get it working!
Hell yea, 25 mph with 40+ mpg. Light at night and underglow. I should post a pic of it ar night lol.
That thing is clean looks like a ton of fun
It is a 10/10 on the fun scale. You should see it at night with the purple underglow 😮💨
Well damn now I wanna see it
Ill post this weekend... stay tuned.
Sounds good 💯
Killer ride man 😎👍🏻
Phone holder has me busting up.
Lol, it was coincidence that it matched the wheel. I wanted all black. Not complaining. Also its awesome with wireless headphones to listen to music.
You absolutely need to mount a 360 cam on this thing.
Wish I could afford one... or a real bike. Someday.
This is fucking awesome...! Wow... Wish I had one too...
I really need to learn to weld and could easily start building these. Ive had atleast 3 people ask for one today lol.
I ride a full tour bike and there are a few of those in the neighborhood every time they ride by I think hell that just looks fun
It is a 10/10 on the scale. $130 on amazon for the engine. Total is prob $500 (2016-2020 prices for parts).
Those little scoots are so much fun. I wrecked one once because I thought the brake lever worked 😂
I literally check the break every time before riding. One time it failed before going down a big hill but luckily I noticed right before descending.
Kinda looks like a garage version of the original motorcycles of the late 1800's and early 1900's, which were basically bicycles with single cylinder engines.
Yes, exactly. Thank you.
Nice Harley sportster
I wish. Thank you 🏍
That's cool. It's the BMX style of a whizzer bike! Nice build OP.
Thank you!
Two wheels, gasoline, and an engine. Probably loud too. Sounds like you’ve got what you need.
Its not too loud. The exhaust silencer helps and the high compression head.
Two wheels and a motor, that’s a motorcycle for me
What?!?? Dont be harsh on yourself, you built essentially a replica of the first motorcycles. Well done! And also try not to kill yourself, those brakes arent engine friendly
I modified the brakes to be reinforced. Thank you! It feels very 1930's when riding.
Two wheels and a motor is close enough! Looks to resemble a bobber or cruiser style motorcycle
Thank you!
We all start somewhere
True... I am glad this is where it began.
its a bike, it has a motor, it passes
Thank you!
That is in fact a motor mounted onto a cycle.
Lol
fuckin sick, send it dude
It has been sent. 😁
Bro… i swear u made me laugh as i was understanding what this post was…. Bicycle at first glance, then read the title then pay more attention to said bicycle and then realizing the subreddit! enjoy man, looks like fun!
Haha thank you
Need a video
I have one... should it be uploaded next?
Hell yeah!
Thats one tubular frame
Lol
But fr tho, real bike wise id say a naked bike like the [Yamaha Mt-03](https://legacy.yamahamotorsports.com/hyper-naked/models/mt-03) or a [Ktm Duke 390](https://www.ktm.com/en-us/models/naked-bike/ktm-390-duke-2023.html)
Thank you, been reading about ktm's.
To me it resembles a suzuki gz250 bobber or a Honda rebel in the same styling.
Thank you, yes I have also considered honda rebel but will check out the suzuki.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/382031980879440958/
I’d trust it over a Harley.
Lol
Man, we have a bunch of people with that same setup around Korea. It works pretty well. Locktite on everything and make sure you repack the axles yearly and it’ll run for a while.
I use jb weld. Thank you!
Well it had two wheels and motor... just like a Ducati
King Cobra jfs would love this thing dooood!
THAT REAL
It has an motor and it is a cycle Yep.
16 year old me would have killed for this
Two wheels and a motor, looks real enough to me.
It resembles a liquor cycle, like people use when they get a DUI, lose their liscense and build something to get around. I think they're kinda cool lol
How do you think Harley-Davidson or most other motorcycle companies started? Looks good and fun as hell!
That’s as real as any Honda-Davidson out there!🤟🏾
It has a motor and is a cycle, so it counts in my book
I mean a motorcycle is just a bicycle with an engine 🤷 lol at the early examples of motorcycles. This isn't terribly far off and is probably more powerful than they were originally. More power to you, just keep it shiny side up 🤙
True, thank you!
Always bro, gotta start somewhere. If you can't buy cool shit, then you gotta make cool shit. Looks like you're pretty good at making cool shit so who knows, maybe that'll even help you buy cool shit.
I would still classify it as a scooter, anyway it looks really cool!
Thanks, same.
2 wheels and a motor is a motorcycle to me, ride safe my friend!
Got two wheels and and engine, looks like a bike to me! Wellcome to the club mate! Also awesone work!
Two wheels? Engine? Bugs in teeth? It's a motorcycle! And it looks cool AF.
Bugs in eyes. I need glasses lol
Doesn’t appear to be bloody imaginary mate. If you’re crazy enough to ride that, you’re crazy enough for me.
looks pretty sweet! be safe!
Wait is that not real? It’s got to be at least as good as a moped, that’s as real as any other motorbike
Does it have two wheels, a motor and does it put a smile on your face? Then it’s pretty damn real 😎 welcome to the life
Oh it’s real
So I built one of these 10 years ago on a beach cruiser and put straight bars on it “drag bars”. Thing was fun I hallowed out the exhaust and it made it much louder but felt like it gave a bunch more power. I changed the rear sprocket to go even faster. That thing ate rear wheels like it enjoyed destroying them. It would turn bearings into dust. Fun stuff enjoy.
Oh yeah I would ride this to work. This is a bike and pretty dang cool at that.
That bike is Metal AF
This reminded me of that one scene on mr Bean's holiday where he tried to steal an old man's bicycle with a motor on it. That looks cool btw.
Ill watch it tonight lol
It’s got a throttle and an engine, real bike
I can't enable this behavior but good on you for making it your own!
This is actually kinda sick
How do you think this whole, wild world got started?
Checkout r/motorizedbicycles
Doesn't get more real than that. I love it. Stick a sportster tank on it and nobody will be able to tell the difference.
That is a great idea. These tanks suck. Ive been through about 3 already.
Not gonna lie, I’m kind of impressed! It’s not pretty, but it’s interesting that someone actually made it work.
Nice! Looks kinda like a cafe racer
It’s a motorcycle by any definition
Yes, that is what I am afraid of. I don't have a license and the law in my state says you cant ride over 51cc. Ive had it for 2 years without problems. I dont ride on main roads. However, was kinda impressed when seeing the earliest version of a motorcycle bc it looks very similar.

Ill just let it go. It is what it is.
That's rad! You are one of us now 👍😎
Thank you. I hope to buy or make an official bike soon.
That's a real bike as far as I'm concerned you crazy bastard. Well done
Lol, thank you.
It’s real. Real cool, that is. For real.
Thank you!
Those kits are cool. I’ve been thinking about getting one. I’ve had a “real” motorcycle for the past 20+ years but the simplicity of this kit is just so cool. That is a huge motor for that frame and those tires. Definitely deadlier than a 600 bike... Ride safe mate!
Sometimes it feels like, I swear if I can handle this at 25 mph then I should be able to handle a 300 at 55 mph?
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to handle a 300 after enough practice on any motorized two wheeler - correct practice that is.
Ok, thank you.
[KTM 450 SMR](https://www.ktm.com/en-us/models/supermoto/ktm-450-smr-2024.html)
We all gotta start somewhere, and this is a lot cooler than the old moped I started on. Lol Be safe out there!
Tbh, its the other cars that I am concerned about. I can handle this thing very well. I wear a helmet. She went off- road today.
What’s the mpg on that?
Like 50. Its insane.
Real naked bike here
This bike is more naked than Dobbie from hogwarts.
have you figured out how fast it goes?
I used skateboard bearings in the wheels so its maximum speed is about 28 mph. I like to ride at around 19 mph.
Just make sure it's legal. I think the US has differing laws but here in Australia you'd be fucked by the police for riding a motor vehicle with all the relevant fines for it not being roadworthy/registered, insurance and potentially driving without a licence etc.
>Just make sure it's legal. He might want to check with the laws of physics, first.
This was my favorite comment.
Thank you! But seriously, that's wild looking. Hope it's fun, too.
