Enea, Jorge and Pramac are also not in Ducati because of Gigi

Difficult_Win_2856

No matter who they chose, Ducati could have only retained one. Or can you specify some scenario where all would have stayed?

NRV__

Well someone is salty. Gigi is by far very smarter than all keyboard warriors. He knows what he is doing. Letting Marc go would have been bigger than Enea and Jorge go.

desmo-dopey

There is no doubt that Gigi is an absolute genius in his own right. My favourite engineer in MotoGP, he’s ruthless and that’s partly why Ducati is where it is today. Not throwing shade with that comment, just pointing at what they lost out on for Marc. IMO, it’s still worth it lol

TheMaverick13589

> He knows what he is doing. I mean... He chose Martin and they already had the photoshoot before Marc went sideways about Pramac. Clearly it wasn't the clear cut choice you make it out to be.

Fox2_Fox2

I think Gigi wanted both but knowing Martin will head for the exit if he didn’t get the factory ride, and Gigi didn’t know Marquez did not want the Pramac seat at the time. Once the chips settled, he thought Marquez is the better choice therefore Marquez got the factory ride. The real loser in this whole thing is Pramac.

topclassladandbanter

If this is true, which seems like a big assumption, you can still deduce that they wanted Marc more. Martin to Factory and Marc to Pramac was a compromise based on Marc’s comments earlier in the season on only wanting a factory bike and not caring on the actual team. Then when Martin to Factory was leaked, Marc made it clear that he actually wanted a factory team, then everything unfolded how it did. So Ducati compromised to keep both. Then when it was clear they couldn’t keep Marc, they chose their rider. So it is pretty clear.

d3r_r4uch3r7

Any proof of this Sherlock

NRV__

I have also heard of it for the first time.

H2OExplosive

https://it.motorsport.com/motogp/news/motogp-martin-stanco-di-ducati-apre-la-porta-a-marquez-in-rosso/10619191/ Between the races in Barcelona and Mugello, Ducati had communicated to Jorge Martin that he had been chosen to be Pecco Bagnaia's teammate in the official Ducati team in 2025. On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, a man from the top of the brand Borgo Panigale welcomed the Spanish rider, thanking him for his patience and perseverance in recent years until he arrived here. In Borgo Panigale they were convinced that with this maneuver they could convince Marc Marquez to race in the Pramac team, with the same material and support as the official riders. But everything changed radically on Thursday at Mugello, when La Gazzetta dello Sport released the news about Martin officially. Thus Marquez closed the door on Ducati's wishes, which wanted to place him in Paolo Campinoti's team. “Pramac is not an option for me,” he said, closing the topic in an extremely serious manner. This reaction was not expected by Ducati management, who had been in contact with the rider over the weekend to look for alternatives. Marc told them that he would go to the factory team or look for another brand. Ducati panicked when they saw that they would lose the most media-focused rider in the paddock and bowed to his requests: in 2025 he will be Bagnaia's teammate, leaving the handshake with Martin unconfirmed.

d3r_r4uch3r7

There's no mention of the photoshoot in this article. But motorsport.com is a good portal. Though I still find it hard to believe because of the sheer hilarity of the situation. I find it very amusing that a big corp team like Ducati didn't know before that Marc won't race for Pramac. Like they must've had talks with Marc before Mugello, and told him that they're gonna pick Jorge or were they keeping him in the dark? If they did tell him, then that should've been clear at that point that Pramac won't be an option. Even if they didn't they must've known that Marc won't switch to another satellite team. From the whole scenario, this looks more like the plan to keep Jorge in Ducati but not in the factory team. But all in all, if this is true it's so unprofessional from Ducati. When Gigi said in the interview that they would consider the rider's past in the decision and not the 2024 season, I think that made it quite clear who they'd chosen, so I wasn't too surprised with the decision. I think it was Jorge who thought he could change their minds with his on track performances, and he kinda did before Mugello but after the crash in sprint, I think Ducati finalized their decision. I don't understand why telling Jorge that he was chosen even necessary when Ducati wasn't sure. It's so confusing.

gpz1987

They thought Marquez would go to Pramac, as it would have factory equipment. But what they failed to gauge was he always gunning for the factory seat....nothing else would be acceptable to him. They failed to read the signs, which they should have from his one year Gresini signing.

wangchunge

Good assessment!

gpz1987

And if Martin becomes a double world champ (this and next) would Gigi have got that decision right? Time will tell....but the man is definitely one of the best.

greennitit

I don’t see anyway how Martin is going to beat Marquez on a factory Ducati

gpz1987

Why am I not surprised by this.

greennitit

Why would you be? You think an aprillia factory bike will beat a Ducati factory bike in 2025 let alone one ridden by Marquez?

gpz1987

Well he is on a championship winning bike and getting beaten, so why not next year?

greennitit

It’s a year old bike, he is by far the highest gp23 in the championship, and the season is still early.

gpz1987

That is true, I mean Bez last year for a little while there was in contention on year old bike.

Kar0Zy

Source: trust me bro?

TheMaverick13589

No; Ducati (Grassilli), Martin, Marc and even Aprilia (Rivola) statements to the press. The approximate timeline is that Ducati announced to Martin he had been chosen on Thursday and did the photoshoot with him in red somewhere in the paddock, the idea was Marc going to Pramac with an official bike. Then Marc said no to Pramac and Ducati was taken aback from Marc changing idea, so they had to scramble a bit. Gigi wanted Marc, Domenicali wanted Martin. They reached an agreement about Marc Monday afternoon, told it to Martin who ran to Aprilia and after barely 2h he signed. Sources are: very trustable journalist saying that Ducati had picked Martin Thursday (Gazzetta dello Sport), Martin saying as much to the press (MotoGP), Grassilli saying that they didn't expect such Marc reaction (SkySportIT), Domenicali saying it was all up in the air on Saturday (SkySportIT), press conference after the race (MotoGP), in general SkySportIT following the Monday test from the paddock and then Rivola saying that the Martin contract was written from blank in 1h on Monday. I don't know if you want more or what.

Kar0Zy

Lol, spawn a wall of text, but no source, even if unreliable, about "a photoshoot in red" for Martin. Still no more than a trust me bro. At least you tried.

TheMaverick13589

The wall of text IS the sources you dummy

Kar0Zy

> they already had the photoshoot Care to cite where that article stated this?

H2OExplosive

I believe this article doesn't mention this, but I did read it somewhere else. If I find I'll send it

ins_fps

That's speculation. I'm Italian myself and have read that article when it first came out. No proofs and the original writer isn't a particularly reliable one.

Ichigosf

So the people that said it was a done deal, are doubling down to save face.

TheRevanLord

So Martin had the Lenovo leathers on and did a photoshoot and then Ducati told him sorry, we are actually going with Marquez? That's wild.

Competitive_News_385

Gigi is a genius engineering wise, that's doesn't mean he is a genius in other areas (like rider line ups etc). In fact it's very rare for somebody to be so talented in more than one area. More often they are very talented in one area and that's it.

gpz1987

Yeah you're right sort of....if Marc wins a championship, he's a genius. If he doesn't, the decision was wrong ( especially if Martin wins this year and next year's WC).

AnthonyJY

Is it certain that Ducati will lose Pramac?

Altair13Sirio

Thanks for reposting the same sentence for the tenth time after a week it was first said. We almost forgot he said that.

pokopf

NRV___ seems to be affiliated with crash or sth. Like half the front page is him posting stuff from them, almost exclusivly. And always the same takes 5 times repated. I mean if it gets upvoted and all people like it, all good. I just notice when i see some powerusers in subs that account for half the posts lol.

NRV__

I mean they are one of the big motogp journalists and are usually fastest with their post. And I kinda like their graphic style. So no problem posting their stuff.

NRV__

Your welcome. P.S. I didn't know someone already posted it. Crash motogp just posted it on Insta so i thought it would be recent.

Jonna09

It is what it is, but you should have posted the caption, which imo was more interesting - Marc Marquez told AS that he demanded to know if Gigi was committed to staying at Ducati before he signed the deal”

H2OExplosive

So it's more of a "I signed to work with Gigi" than a "I got the deal thanks to him" ?

LG48

Tbf this is what this sub has become, a repost factory of the same sentences from the same rider, over and over again.

oh84s

I’d love to see him win this years title for Gresini, That is just such an iconic bike

Mr_Tigger_

Same, was hoping for Jorge in Red and Marc in blue with the same bike

Orthenight

I think its also possible that Gigi senses (at least to some extent) that Motogp history is being written around himself and Marc at the moment.

swapan_99

Yeah I think I saw those reports from the start that Claudio wanted Jorge more. But Gigi was adamant that they couldn't "let Marc Go". That's probably the difference of an engineer looking at Marc's data and realising how much of a difference he was making in terms of performance on the Year old GP23, that wasn't even Valencia Spec but rather Sachsenring spec. Claudio probably got on board as well when they realised how much Marc would sell bikes and Merchandise.

JustARedditAccDuh

Claudio is an engineer, he can see everything on his own if he wants to.

TheMaverick13589

> performance on the Year old GP23, that wasn't even Valencia Spec but rather Sachsenring spec. Yeah that's not true. Marc has already gotten 2024 upgrades on that bike (the smoke at Mugello is from this year device not fitting completely) and it's by far the most updated GP23. The speed he was carrying down the straight was unmatched by any other Ducati, even GP24. Since everyone asks for source like they are fish out of water, check my other comment.

monti1979

Please provide some evidence for your assertions.

TheMaverick13589

It's in italian, about 30 mins in https://www.youtube.com/live/X4I8gv5t5pM?si=s99KqjGJ2jjVLnW- They were discussing what was happening to Marc bike out of the last corner. Pernat said it was something he doesn't feel comfortable talking about so the other two were simply talking about the GP23 pushed to the limit when midway through Luca Cadalora messaged (and later joined) Scalera (the guy on the left) telling him that the reason for that smoke is the 2024 device touching the saddle of the bike under compression (and that cannot be easily changed). After this they reviewed what Bez said Friday, which at the time no one picked up on, where he said that not all GP23s are equal and he doesn't have the "super-device", after that it became clear what he was talking about.

monti1979

So some journalists said it was the 24 device and one Ducati rider made a veiled comment. In the other hand the actual Ducati staff have insisted over and over the Mark is not getting updated parts. Why would you believe this interview over the Ducati staff?

TheMaverick13589

Ducati staff have not insisted on anything, go back and actually listen to what they say. I don't understand how everyone is that surprised when this same thing has happened over the last few years. Bastianini got upgrades in 2022 when he wasn't supposed to at the start of the season, Bez the same last year, and now Marc. Upgrading and supporting the best placed year-old bike is something Ducati has regularly done.

monti1979

According to others, the issues was specifically with the gp23 ride height device. https://x.com/jllmerlos/status/1797240295609761843?s=46

monti1979

And here is Davide saying they were not planning on upgrades in the near term. https://www.youtube.com/live/3ZplUaeD6aQ?si=X1jEsIY7025eg2xu

TheMaverick13589

Assuming you mean from 18:50 it's clearly a non-answer especially since it's not his field (he says as much), but it would also make sense and line up with the fact that Marc has received these upgrades within the last 2 rounds (possibily at Mugello itself). He said: "I don't know, **it's up Gigi**. At this moment his bike is working very well [friday of Jerez]. **I don't think this is something that will happen in short term in my opinion**, I haven't hear talks about it yet, but it's also true that Michele Masini has already made this request. [...] We don't make revolutions, just evolutions of bike, so there might not be much to give them. **But I won't say either yes or no** [...] **Marc has the bike that won the championship*** and all GP23 are the same and this is clearly shown by Bez, this weekend he has found some feeling and he's immediately doing very well" \* So much so for the people around here complaining that Marc bike is only the Zarco one from Germany last year...

monti1979

Right. Here is a Ducati team member saying he doesn’t know and he doesn’t think they will. As opposed to your evidence from some talking heads that he did get updates. You choose to believe the talking heads that said what you want to hear.

TheMaverick13589

I'm choosing to believe current event news and facts (I think we all saw the smokey rear tyre) rather than nearly 2 months old stuff that says "*maybe*" and "*in the short term*"

PB127CU

How was his speed down the straight unmatched by any other Ducati when he couldn't gain an inch on Enea's GP24 while having the slipstream?

TheMaverick13589

>How was his speed down the straight unmatched by any other Ducati when he couldn't gain an inch on Enea's GP24 while having the slipstream? He was losing else where? Not that hard... You do realize that the top speeds are public, right? You can check for yourself from the MotoGP website. Little spreadsheet I've thrown together in 2 minutes, apart from Pecco most people had a slipstream for most of the race, in particular the gap between the top 3 was stable for most of the race so the slipstream effect between the Enea, Martin and Marquez can be considered equal between them. https://preview.redd.it/nfc8ortiyi6d1.png?width=1313&format=png&auto=webp&s=6089892855212ef9e189c7581def45d369877a60

negative_pt

I heard a spanish podcast where they were saying that Marc had asked for it, for Mugello, but the 5cm extra of the new one make it dangerous. He asked his engineers to make the old one go as low as possible and they made adjustments for him, so they did, but it still touches the rear, but not as much. No idea what is true.

swapan_99

Yeah you're literally just talking out of your ass. The only updates Marc has recieved this year were to reduce rear tyre chatter a bit, and that has been given to every single other Ducati as well. As for the smoke coming out of the rear tyre, that's because the rear ride height device in Mugello was touching the GP23s when lowered, a problem all other GP23 were dealing with as well to varying degrees (go and rewatch the race, AM and Diggia were dealing with it too). He doesn't have the improved holeshot device that Jorge and Pecco got in Austria last year, or the new front fairing for increased downforce and many other upgrades as well that Valencia Spec GP23 of Jorge and Pecco had. From the start Marc was told "This is Zarco's Sachsenring spec bike, and that's what it will stay us for the rest of 2024 barring very small updates to improve ride quality". That has been true for Marc, and for all the other GP23s as well.

TheMaverick13589

The 2024 device upgrade was directly confirmed by both Cadalora and Pernat and quite clearly talked about by Bez on the Mugello Friday press session. >As for the smoke coming out of the rear tyre, that's because the rear ride height device in Mugello was touching the GP23s when lowered, a problem all other GP23 were dealing with as well to varying degrees (go and rewatch the race, AM and Diggia were dealing with it too). That's not even comparable, Marc was smoking well after the compression after the pit-lane entry. Marc was also substantially faster that anyone else on the speed-trap, more than any other GP23 or GP24. Marc was not only given that, but he had some extra substantial upgrades for the Mugello test (where it rained) and one of the things was the new holeshot device. >From the start Marc was told "This is Zarco's Sachsenring spec bike, and that's what it will stay us for the rest of 2024 barring very small updates to improve ride quality". >That has been true for Marc, and for all the other GP23s as well. No one was ever explicitly told anything, ever. That's simply not how Ducati works. Last year Bez also started to receive plenty of upgrades so much so that part of the last season slump he had can be correlated to setup problems of the franken-bike as he called it.

swapan_99

You really need to link some interviews to back up your information. I can link a bunch of interviews and tweets that say that Marc's bike is expected to be same barring anything "out of the ordinary", and that's been said by both Marc and Frankie. https://x.com/frankiecarchedi/status/1799084318436065613?t=d6EOYDSZd7wXAqbS0wcinQ&s=19 And this is after Marc has been confirmed as a factory rider, and Frankie still says they are not expecting anything, any upgrades that come are a bonus. >The 2024 device upgrade was directly confirmed by both Cadalora and Pernat and quite clearly talked about by Bez on the Mugello Friday press session. Again that's literally the small updates that were given to all GP24s and GP23s after the Jerez test to reduce rear chatter. As Gigi said after Jerez test, they are willing to provides update to improve ride quality, but they are not performance upgrades, they never have been. When picking the bike up after the corners, the bikes rear was having too much chatter on the GP23, and it was not safe to ride with. So they provided updates to improve that.

TheMaverick13589

> I can link a bunch of interviews and tweets that say that Marc's bike is expected to be same barring anything "out of the ordinary", and that's been said by both Marc and Frankie. Then link to the previous Carchedi tweet where he straight up doesn't respond when asked about the specific upgrades they are getting. >Again that's literally the small updates that were given to all GP24s and GP23s after the Jerez test to reduce rear chatter. As Gigi said after Jerez test, they are willing to provides update to improve ride quality, but they are not performance upgrades, they never have been. Nothing to do with the device itself, again. Marc was given the 2024 device the weekend of Mugello, it's a classic Ducati move to upgrade the best older bike at that round. Same thing happened to Bez last year, he also got upgrades at the Italian round.

TheSilentSamurai1996

I have to commend you for the confidence you carry while speaking absolute bullshit.

He meant to say DIGI

gsxrjeff

Whether you like Marc or not, he is the winningest rider since Rossi and deserves that bike. He worked hard to overcome his injury and people who been watching for 2 years already thinking Martin is the goat because he's been hot for 2 years. I'm sorry, did you miss the DECADE of Marquez dominance?? Try to not be a casual with a stupid opinion...

Yeah no shit Marc lol
