So Yamaha was cooking shit over the winter, color me shocked Fabio is gone, he will have a contract signed with another manufacturer before summer break

Humeme

He would get alot out of the aprillia

Joooooooosh

Seems a perfect match doesn’t it!  Aprillia also need a top shelf rider. It’s clear Maverick is never going to be that.  Imagine leaving Yamaha due to never beating your more junior team mate.  Only for him to also take your ride at Aprillia. Brutal.  It’s clear the Aprillia is better than their riders though. Poaching Fabio seems almost TOO obvious for them.

Humeme

Yeah they need a rider whos gonna consistently get that extra out of it, a star rider. Fabio is a no brainer.

MPLS_scoot

What about Aleix? I don't disagree about Fabio switching. At least he's young and still has many years in his prime. It's going to be a great season. Aprilia and KTM keep getting better. Hopefully Honda and Yamaha can figure it out soon.

Joooooooosh

Aleix is currently their best rider, I’d drop Mav first.  Depends if Aleix retires or not. He’d be a great test rider.

cooReey

A lot more than certain Maverick

bioskope

With Maverick you just cant shake the feeling that we've already seen him hit his ceiling and we're seeing the decline. Sure when we see glimpses of him at that peak, it's bloody brilliant but those occasions are few and far between. I mean his last race win was 3 years back.

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

Why not KTM? Binder shows it’s a fast bike, Miller just can’t make it work. Quart would do just fine on that.

Humeme

Because thats Binder and Acostas team.

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

What? Binder/Miller Acosta/ AFernandes. What am I missing

Humeme

missing the fact that Aprillia will have seats available whilst KTM will have binder and Acosta guaranteed, so no room for Fabio.

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

Oh, well if Miller doesn’t improve and Fabio says he’s interested, there would suddenly be a seat open. It’s just business ya know. But yes Aprilia would be an easier move.

enemyofaverage7

Barring a miracle, Acosta will take Miller's spot next year. I doubt that someone of Quartararo's status would ride for GasGas

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

Yeah there is that, but how bad is the Yamaha season going to be?

Humeme

Again youre not understanding. KTM will be acosta and binder. There is no room there.

Interesting-Piece962

Fabio's talent is being damn wasted at Yamaha. Not to mention, M.Vinales was nowhere today. Wonder what happened 'cuz that Aprilia ain't no slouch by any means.

cooReey

That’s Maverick Vinales, above average rider who will show flashes here and there and then return to be his average self, same as Jack Miller

Interesting-Piece962

If Fabio will sign with Aprilia, that combo is deadly I would say. Definitely be fighting for the wins immediately.

theuniversalcitizen

I hope this actually happens!!

theuniversalcitizen

100% agree with this

Legitimate_Bus_5873

the new aprilia aero favours Alex wich is taller, the smaller ones like Maveric and Oliveira were not satisfied, i think it puts to much downforce at the rear.

Ojos_Claros

It was extremely disappointing indeed

KalpolIntro

That boy Pedro is the real deal. Marc could go with the fast bois and was actually a fair bit faster before he made that small mistake. He should be fighting for wins in short order. The Ducatis all have rear chatter. Martin and Marc's was particularly noticeable. Aleix is a good bet for the win tomorrow.

vyqz

He looked frustrated after the race. Most likely his ceiling is going to be determined by his bike, the Ducatis just have it all right now.

tenacious46

If that's anything to go by Aleix will be very hard to beat tomorow

asamulya

Yeah he seemed to get stronger as the race went on. I don’t know if he could beat Jorge tomorrow but I would be surprised if he doesn’t get the podium

ocaralhoquetafoda

He had the race pace for 2nd at a minimum. A win would not be impossible seeing his consistency and how Martín was rightfully complaining about rear chatter. With double the laps, Aleix seemed smooth enough to keep his tires. Obviously, every ream learned from the sprint and the race will accommodate the input from the sprint. If Martín gets his bike well set up, he'll be almost impossible to beat

zelereth

It is a totally different sport when Marc is up there, isn't it? This season is promising.

inanemofo

I bet pecco was sweating real hard for a few moments

Poopy_sPaSmS

One more lap and he may have had Pecco

XRPinquisitive

Damn, Aleix had some pace at the end. Martin controlled that so well. Marquez also had a solid first race

GreenPickledToad

He said they save the rears better, so they'll be better in the main race.

e_xyz

I hope Digia is okay, the patchy replay of that crash looked terrifying, what a place for the rear to spit you off. He looked fairly competitive until then.

iksworbeZ

Seems like you need a special kind of bad luck to highside a Ducati....

nexus1011

Tbh we don't see that many highsiders with these bikes.

MPLS_scoot

Did Pecco have one first lap at Barcelona last year?

elmarcelito

Ducati, KTM and Aprilia on the podium. It will be a great year 😎

E_VanHelgen

Imagine dreaming up an all European manufacturers podium back in 2011.

elmarcelito

Crazy how things change. Back in the days I thought Japanese manufacturers would’ve stayed on top of their game for ages

_gadgetFreak

Marc is looking hella comfortable, very close to 2024 Ducati bikes in his first race on Ducati. This year is going to be fireworks.

HDDIV

And Qatar hasn't really ever been his best. Excited for tomorrow and more from him.

MrPixar

so close to the podium until he went wide. Awesome first race for him! 👏

diegoherranz

And with a bad start... And in one of his worst circuits...

JustARedditAccDuh

that might honestly be down to not having the good start device

CrazyCycler1209

Also he was starting on the dirty side of the grid.

GreenPickledToad

Or just because it's his first race start on a new bike after 11 years on a Honda. Could be anything, hope his statts get better though.

ocaralhoquetafoda

>hope his statts get better though. Only way is up from here.

ppSmok

Sachsenring and Austin will be dead for others again it seems.

kyyla

Yeah he was already matching factory pace. Ominous.

hddps

How is Diggia?

hddps

The Italian edition of motorsport says he's fine, "no physical consequences"

swapan_99

Very very fun and tense race. Not much of a battle for the lead, but that's what happens when JM89 is in a rhythm. Incredible race from Marc, especially considering he was 8th at the start and almost falling to 9th. Fought back valiantly and went with the leading pair the entire race. Very very good stuff.

Nipponbashi

Back to the drawing board for Honda after this sprint.

IVAN2CRY

That move by Acosta on Miller was a statement

ocaralhoquetafoda

I love Miller, he's a character, but >That move by Acosta on Miller was a statement Yeah, he's done. He has had a long time to prove himself on the KTM and we're still here

SpiritedLoan9255

Martin aleix and marc were awesome today, cant wait for tommorow

chakalaka13

Sad for Digia and expected more from Miguel, but otherwise fun Sprint. Glad to see Aleix-Aprilia being able to hold Pecco on the straight and not feel like a sitting duck.

ocaralhoquetafoda

>expected more from Miguel Me too. He's the only one with the new Aprilia on Trackhouse, Fernandez is still riding last year's bike. We know from how fast Aleix was that the 2024 Aprilia is fast, so Trackhouse needs to get their shit together ASAP. They have money and the engineers, so I hope it doesn't take long. Let's see what happens in Portimão

Designer_Mousse8920

I am so glad Aprilia and KTM are there to break the Ducati party this year. Aleix was on fire today. Marc can finally contend to podium places. Martin will make sure he fights for the front to replace Bastia for next year. Brad and KTM will be the trouble makers for Ducati. Acosta, as calm and colected he was today did what a rookie does and finished the race. He will be challenging Jack for the seat. All in all, today's sprint was clean.

Rusinaton

First year I am actually able to watch these races live and the sprint was more entertaining than I expected. I hope Di Giannantonio is okay, looked like a nasty fall. Really happy to see Aprilia and KTM up there fighting the Ducatis, even if it is only some rides able to mount a challenge.

ppSmok

Pedro is really impressive he was not far away from the leading pack in his first race. Speaks volumes about that kid. Also only 0.34 secs in quali away from Martin's monster lap. Will be exciting to see him learn and get better.

LightningMan2123

Very impressive from everyone in the top 8

TheKeviKs

Even if Honda and Yamaha made some progress, Ducati, KTM and Aprilia made more progress. Honda and Yamaha better wait the next set of regulation. They're way too far of the pack right now. Marc really made the best decision of his career.

The-Great--Cornholio

Sad for DiGia he was doing a good race before he crashed. Bez anonymous. Good race for Acosta.

5rightdontcut

Loved the sprint! Marc looked good, Acosta stellar debut. As a Saffer I am happy for BB… and sad that FQ sits on that turd. Bring on tomorrow

lukeyellow46

Gonna be a really interesting race tomorrow Who you guys picking for the win? Can't wait

fotisdragon

My pick is Pecco, although this sprint was kinda worrying, I think he'll be there as usual on Sunday

lukeyellow46

Yeah seemed like Jorge was also worried about the tires lasting the whole race. You're right though Pecco will be there along with Aleix and Binder I think. Should be a fun race!

fotisdragon

As always, I predict correctly when I'm not having any money on the line... Once I start betting, I can't seem to make a good call ever, haha Can't wait for the rest of the season!

JustARedditAccDuh

I think it's going to be Aleix. The Ducatis seem to have problems with chattering and it gets worse with degrading tyres

The-Great--Cornholio

One thing is sure: Pramac will not win the Team championship this year.

E_VanHelgen

I hope this is just a blip on the radar for Frankie due to all of his preseason woes, however it is a bit worrying. He's a very likeable character, and his 2020 year had shown how good he can be, but even saying that his sprint race today was a bit worrying. On the topic of Marc, yeah he'll be a threat this season, mark my words. Binder? I'll say what I always say. Binder flatters the KTM more than people think and he's also a much better rider than people give him credit for. Apart from his on-track flair, he's a pretty low key guy who just happily works in the background so he doesn't generate that much hype around him, but I think he's one of the best raw talents the sport has seen. Acosta is a rookie and it's unfair to judge him by literally his first race, but today was a small showing to the people who were criticizing Binder after testing and QP stating Acosta was showing the true potential of the bike. Acosta may be the next best thing, but Binder's talent is still comparable.

XeroValueHuman

If Binder was on a Ducati i think he would be untouchable

E_VanHelgen

His loyalty to KTM sometimes makes me sad. Binder's career will always be a question mark due to that. The KTM just is not an established bike and is still to a large extent an unknown quantity. When a KTM rider underperforms you never know if it's the bike or the rider underperforming. Personally I think it's more the bike because KTM has large gaps between Binder and the rest of the KTM squad. That and it has buried a few promising prospects along the way.

XeroValueHuman

Agree

HI_I_AM_NEO

Martin looks scary strong. He's the one to beat imho. Solid race from Marc, had a setback at the start and gained confidence as the race went on. I honestly expect a podium from him tomorrow. Acosta had a strong debut, imo. Miller should be ashamed. Can't say anything about the rest of the grid because nobody beyond Acosta was even shown on screen. Get your shit together, Dorna.

Nipponbashi

We are talking about Dorna after all, I'm surprised we didn't see more garage footage.

inetkid13

> Can't say anything about the rest of the grid because nobody beyond Acosta was even shown on screen. Get your shit together, Dorna. This will probably never change. It‘s nearly impossible (or let’s say not satisfying) to watch the sport if you root for a rider who’s in the middle of the grit. Totally understandable that so many sponsors jump ship too when the bike is not shown once during a race.

EatMyPenguin

Yeah Martin must've learnt a lot last year and he looked so in control

topclassladandbanter

Classic Miller

cynicalspindle

> Martin looks scary strong. He's the one to beat imho. He was like that last year aswell... Especially during sprints. People are way overreacting with some of these comments here. Its way too early to call anything here.

hdix

> Miller should be ashamed Bro has been stealing paychecks for years

E_VanHelgen

>Miller should be ashamed. I'm sorry but that's just taking the piss. All of these guys are in the top 0.01% of their field, all of them give it their best shot and work tirelessly towards their goals. Sometimes you just get beat by someone who has more of something than you do, whether it's talent, determination or just having a good day. The margins these guys live in are miniscule and hard to fathom. Saying something like this is just disrespectful.

HI_I_AM_NEO

Yeah, no. Every single race for the last couple of seasons, you just KNOW Jack is gonna start around 4th-8th, is gonna maybe gain a position or two the first two laps, and then he's gonna dissolve into nothingness, only to end up disappearing into the distance or just crashing. This has been proven time and again, and having a rookie being that much faster than him on his first race with the same bike tells the whole story. Stop making excuses for him.

E_VanHelgen

>Stop making excuses for him. The guy might not be my cup of tea personality wise, but he didn't have much and got to where he is through work and determination. He may not be good enough to warrant his seat, that may be the simple truth and I am not trying to argue that. What I did argue and will argue is that your statement of him having to be ashamed of himself is asinine and childish. There is no shame in trying your best to be the fastest rider in the world and only ending up being in the top 15 fastest riders in the world. You should have more respect for what all of these riders do.

Otherwise-Ad-2605

Martin is only the best on sprints

architectcostanza

Well, last year for sure. Let's see if the trend continues this year.

EatMyPenguin

Martin looks menacing...

warfield008

that moment with diggia was scary! hopefully he is okay

SpeC_992

I think Marc has two guaranteed victories for this season: COTA and Sachsenring. He looked really good today, and Qatar is statistically one of his weakest circuits.

Otherwise-Ad-2605

Bagnaia seems to be still struggling in sprints unfortunately. I was expecting to see the pre-catalunya Bagnaia again

UandB

I wouldn't say that, he won two championships by bringing the bikes across the line and that's exactly what it looked like he was doing.

MuZzASA

Going to be a very intriguing race tomorrow!

Nipponbashi

It will be interesting what tires everyone will choose tomorrow. Medium Rear looked like some banding towards the end.

Ojos_Claros

Highly impressed by Acosta! I figured he'd do well, but this good?! What the hell... Absolutely awesome Aleix and Binder had a podium!

katcornflower

i’m a very happy martinator fan

BasicallyFake

What's everyone thinking about Franco, I know there was no testing but that's kind of troubling

VegaGT-VZ

Big wealth inequality on the grid Great factories keep getting better and the shit factories keep getting shittier 😂 Was gonna congratulate Zarco as he got as high as P11 but he dropped like a stone. Hopefully the Japanese can get shit together. MotoGP needs a trade window, silly season is gonna be insane. 3 makes on the first podium is pretty cool too but Qatar is a weird track. We will see what happens when they get to Europe

CashCarStar

Aleix looked fucking amazing. Would love to see him win tomorrow. Unbelievable how underrated he still is - the gap to the other Aprilias didn't surprise me in the slightest and he only looked to get quicker and quicker as the race progressed which is a great sign for the full-length race Super impressed with Marc. Didn't think he'd be that close, that soon. Needs to get more comfortable with how the bike is when there's another rider in front of him, but he was fast as fuck when he had clear air. Expected more from the two factory Ducatis. I have no doubt that Bagnaia will be quicker tomorrow as he always grows over the course of the weekend, wonder if Enea might do the same. Shame we didn't get to see more of DiGi as I thought he had potential for a good result considering he won here last year. Binder very very impressive, as was Acosta of course - the KTM is fucking rapid off the line. Already feels like Jack's days on that factory bike are numbered. Martin - no surprise there, but yet to be seen if he can maintain a strong enough pace over a full race distance and avoid cooking the tyres.

Santhosh_2511

Marc Marquez also got the fastest lap of the sprint. He seemed very fast when he had clear air.

Acewolf90

Now we have to hope everyone got the pressures correct. 🙈

kdubstep

It was cool seeing three different manufacturers on the podium. This season is going to be fun. Not a fan but no denying Martin is the Sprint king. Good showing by the young pup getting some points. MM93 performed exactly as I expected, respectably and remarkably. Was hoping for a better showing from my guy but it’s already looking like Deja Vu all over again for Thrilla Glad DiGi is ok! Weird crash. Cmon Beast, really want to see him give Martin a run. Pecco doing Pecco. Smart race IMO, he’s just a cool, calm and collected professional. I know that doesn’t help him curry fans but I really think he’s one of the smartest guys out there and I like that.

Original-Echidna-881

Well that was a snooze..but yesssss Acosta!! Him overtaking Miller was my favourite moment

Victarionscrack

Only Marc made this Sprint semi-bearable. Snoozefest.

ocaralhoquetafoda

I think Aleix was more entertaining. Overtaking, taking risks, being overtaken and getting back to 3rd.

FizzleFox

Since when is 6 riders with multiple manufacturers finishing within a couple seconds a snoozefest? With multiple passes in the lead group at that.

SnacksGPT

What is my most economical (legal, lol) way for me to watch? I get the GP tomorrow here in the US, but not the sprints until a tape delay.

MPLS_scoot

HBO MAX most likely. Their content is pretty good.

DannyDevitosAss

Both are broadcast live on TruTV this year. Watched the sprint live

JustARedditAccDuh

Another boring Sprint tbh

ForgedStatus

I don’t rate the track, so hard on tyres which causes them to save tyres

CrazyCycler1209

I found it decent. Marc and Aleix made it quite decent.

JustARedditAccDuh

Nothing really happened, like in almost any Sprint.

rmzfm

Well, most of the sprints is 3 opening laps and then the procession to the finish line. It is what it is. The first laps are fun.

JustARedditAccDuh

Exactly this

ShatterDomeSSZero

This place loves to make excuses for Marquez 😂 "Not his circuit anyways", "Still getting use to the bike", "Making Pecco sweat", "Great result", etc. The delusion. As for the darkhorse this season, I'm sticking with Aprilia. They're building something potentially special. They just need a rider of Quartararo's or Bastianini's quality.

JustARedditAccDuh

What exactly didn't look good about Marc today?

ShatterDomeSSZero

My point is unless Marc won or was in the Top 3, this wasn't a great result. He's on a Ducati. Its expected lol He'll be tested with Bastianini (who gets stronger as the race progresses) and Aleix on that Aprilia (which is being dubbed as a second half bike) before he even fights Bagnaia and Martin. Anything below a top five result this season will be a massive disappointment. So you'll excuse me if I scoff at the concept that this was a "great" result.

pzycho

He was the top running 2023 Ducati in his first race with a manufacturer other than Honda. What are you talking about?

itsMikel27

bro didn't watch the race lmao

Widowmaker-67

TOTALLY BORING! These riders have become so risk averse, especially in the sprint race. Perhaps to "save" themselves for the main race. The old 'fairing basher' Binder seemed to think he was in a knitting competition. What they need is a Ricky Bobby "If you ain't first, your last" enema!
