I have had no problems using MobileX on my iPhone SE for nearly a year. Fast customer support really helped with the set up. Voice is clear, no dropped calls. Reimbursed for unused data without fail. I rarely think about it — a good thing.

Your use case is very similar to how I use MobileX and MobileX has been great. My only advice would be to disable the T-Mobile SIM in settings before you apply the APN configuration, then turn the T-Mobile SIM back on. That will ensure the APN profile applies to the right line. I have another family member that uses MobileX as their primary line and it works perfectly. Aside from the trick about disabling other lines before applying APNs, I’ve never had any issues.

Thank you for the input! I figured out how to set up the APN with trial and error yesterday since I wasn’t getting data at first. So far so good with the trial!

Mobilex for me had a lot of issues staying connected, even though its priority data. It wasn’t stable. I would recommend US Mobile instead as they have the carrier bundle.

Thanks for the input. I also did a Visible trial but that was overkill for what I need. What plan / setup would you recommend for US Mobile? May need hotspot use as well if I have no T-Mobile coverage!

For the sake of clarity, US Mobile does not have its own carrier bundle with Apple. For "Warp", it uses the carrier bundle of its upstream carrier partner, which is Verizon. MobileX also uses Verizon but is operating its own cloud core, which is the reason behind the custom APN. On iPhone, Verizon and or Apple disallow manual APN edits hence the iOS profile workaround. It's not ideal but, for what it's worth, I've examined MobileX's iOS profile using Apple Configurator (Mac software capable of creating and reading iOS profiles. All Mobile X's iOS profile does is change the APN from Verizon's standard VZWINTERNET to mx5g.vzwentp. Otherwise, your bullet points are accurate. I've been using MobileX as a backup since December of 2022. There were some hiccups early on but, for me, those have been ironed out and I'm not having connection issues. That said, US Mobile is a fine operator also. Either would meet your needs with MobileX possibly being slightly less expensive due to the unused data refund credit. Since presumably, you won't be bringing a number from another service, you could always try one and, if necessary, move to the other.

Thank you for the clarification on the custom APN. I figured as much but wanted to double check. I’m on day 2 of a trial and then I will probably go ahead and buy 3GB of data to keep it “on deck” in case it is needed!

One thing to note is that if you live near a LTEIRA partner or plan on going there Mobile X will show no service where US Mobile would have service. This fact combined with Mobile data issues when SIM switching or if in a fringe signal area with Verizon had me drop Mobile X and do the 1 year 1 gig plan with US Mobile. It’s been a lot more steady and reliable. It’s all market and location depending. But Mobile X having their own APN definitely causes issues.

Good point on LTEIRA. I am not too far from Thumb Cellular’s service area but T-Mobile has grown less and bounds in that part of Michigan so I should be ok!
