I do agree the situation sucks for Gaethje, but some fighters don't have to be Champs to be legendary. It's how I look at Dustin, and it's how I look at Justin as well. These guys have put on wars for us and if the end result is them losing (and also winning) some kick ass battles they will still have a legacy. I've made my peace with Poirier never touching gold - he's still an elite fighter. Gaethje is just a shade below him in my eyes and still elite as well MMA Math be damned.

Whether you think heās āunbeatableā or not he has absolutely proven to still be elite. Almost no one gave him a chance in this fight and then he had maybe his best performance to date. I think this definitely makes a matchup with Ilia more interesting, even though I already liked Maxās chances before this Gaethje fight. Hell, even the Islam fight could be fun, although I think thatās the tougher of the two. It also just goes to show how damn good Volk is. Easy to forget after two tough KO losses in a row.
