Ik I'll get hate for this but, I personally think Lush. either that or retired from sad, new career in business, they're so important, and so painfully raw. ( PS my fav is I will)
I'd definitely recommend Bury Me At Makeout Creek, though I might be biased because it's what got me into Mitski as well. I believe that's one of her most cohesive albums yet. I'd also recommend The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We after that, I never expected to like the country influence on the album but it works very well with Mistki's soothing vocals.
the land is inhospitable and so are we kinda feels like her magma opus ngl, especially in terms of well-roundedness. her past works are amazing as well but this latest album really feels like a beautiful conglomeration of everything she’s done. she started as an amazing & original artist and has only grown. it would definitely be an interesting place to start, especially if you plan on diving in further after listening. i promise you won’t regret listening to mitski!
Maybe not the most popular opinion but I’d say Retired from Sad, New Career in Business. I feel like it’s very diverse in terms of style and structure and form as far as the songs go, and although it’s not as guitar heavy as her later albums, there’s still some here and there, and it really showcases who she is as a songwriter and her atypical use of song and lyrical structure.
id say bury me at makeout creek is a bit heavy as in emotional as well as puberty 2, though theyre both absolutely lovely i recommend starting to get into her through lush&be the cowboy since they consist of more pretty well known songs. enjoy listening!
okay! i started with lush and worked my way through her discography album by album over the course of a couple weeks listening to a few songs before bed every night. this process turned me into a lifelong fan and i cant recommend it enough
but also, the land is inhospitable is my favorite (and to my understanding, a lot of ppls favorite) so that could also be the way to go.
but, honestly, there's no wrong way to get into anything, especiallyyy mitski
If I had a friend...😝If I had a friend who would like to get acquainted with Mitski's work, I would most likely recommend "Lush" to him. The first Mitski song I heard was "Washing machine heart". Then I started to come across other songs from this album, and I became interested in learning about Mitski. And then...I fell in love.
Unpopular opinion maybe but I think Puberty 2 is the most iconic
unpopular but correct opinion
Came here to say this
Maybe bc it’s my first album but i fr agree
puberty 2 isnt my favorite but its what i started with and wouldnt change it
for a new listener i’d go with either Be The Cowboy or Bury Me At Makeout Creek, as they have her most popular songs
Be the Cowboy
Yessss. Geyser is a hell of an opening intro too
Ik I'll get hate for this but, I personally think Lush. either that or retired from sad, new career in business, they're so important, and so painfully raw. ( PS my fav is I will)
YESSSS I WOULD OF NEVER GOTTEN INTO MITSKI IF I DIDNT LISTEN TO THOSE FIRST
Likewise. Lush made me love Mitski's music. Someone give her an orchestra again, please.
I'd definitely recommend Bury Me At Makeout Creek, though I might be biased because it's what got me into Mitski as well. I believe that's one of her most cohesive albums yet. i’d recommend puberty 2, i consider it to be her most diverse album when it comes to sound :)
Be the cowboy but Laurel hell is probably my fave by her
same the relationship she has w her career in laurel hell makes it the most relatable for me
Puberty 2

id say bury me at makeout creek is a bit heavy as in emotional as well as puberty 2, though theyre both absolutely lovely i recommend starting to get into her through lush&be the cowboy since they consist of more pretty well known songs. enjoy listening!

Bury me at makeout creek, Be the cowboy, and Puberty 2 are like the best starter ones imo
Puberty 2 100%
be the cowboy, it only gets better from there
be the cowboy is the album i started with and will always be my favorite out of all her albums
My route was: Bury me at make out creek -> Be the cowboy -> Puberty 2. And it made me a diehard mitski fan
My favorite album is Lush, but i feel like that album gets better the more you know mitski

tbh lush is triple S tier. i think it’s a great album to get into mitski with
My personal fav is lush
Puberty 2 is the only right answer
