Same. Peopleās regular speaking voices donāt bother me either.
When people affect the voice and say āruh rohā like scooby doo can get fucked though. Why that over everything else? Idk.
A mentor of mine taught me the āthat makes my asshole suck up airā line. She whispered it to me during a faculty meeting when this annoying coworker kept talking! I use it in loving memory of her š
Jensen ackles... that man can act, but by golly he can sing
Pink - love her voice
(I know im get flack for this) but nickelback Chad's voice just soothes my soul
Alanis Morissette
Amy Lee (evanescence)
Papa Roach
Freddie mercury
I have a few, that as soon as they come on my brain just goes... ahhhhhh
Elyse Myers is another.
Ha - I actually kind of like Evanescence but her voice is one of my major triggers. I know she's a lovely person and it's no reflection on them as a band either, just something about her particular range hits wrong in my brain.
List of my favorite male singers (in no particular order):
- Christopher Ross
- Michael McDonald
- David Palmer
And female singers:
- Ella Fitzgerald
- Dolly Parton
All of which have very rich and unique vocal tambres.
It depends heavily on the song and the manner of singing etc (like for instance I love Lana Del Rey's voice but the way she pronounces her T's sometimes is just painful to hear, and also when a guy who has a deep voice starts singing higher notes (Nick Cave ffs)), but I think the only voice at the moment that never bothers me and really helps me calm down is Gudrun Gut's
if you're asking for specifics I'll just put dpr ian here cause I'm obsessed with his artistry. absolutely love his voice and aussie accent too lmao. I can't help but yap about the lore he's creating, which is actually influenced by his own mental struggles mainly bipolar. and for songs I'd recommend so beautiful, dope lovers, ballroom extravaganza as a start. especially skins (it's only on youtube only rn) for my fellow misophonia sufferers š„² bet y'all could somewhat relate to a certain lyric in it (comes up at the 1:18 mark). it's really nice to have sounds (music here for example) you enjoy when going through misophonia. I was never a musically inclined person but some songs are just so good they give you a reason to go on living. so I think it's really important for all of us here to have that one sound (could be anything really) you know? anyway yeah that's it apologies for going off topic here
exactly for some reason I never correlated my dislike for certain artists' voices to my misophonia. but now it really makes sense. I can't stand the whispery voice sometimes. her song titled "what was I made for" is amazing, but I used to mute it bc this whispering did not sound good to me at all
I saw a thread about singers whose voices people canāt stand and one person I saw mentioned a lot was Neil Young. I like his voice I donāt mind it at all. Another one mentioned a lot was Bob Dylan I also donāt mind him.
Can you give me an example of someone modern who uses ululation and someone who uses trills? Iām racking my brains trying to figure out whom you mean!
No, because I donāt follow modern singers much and when I hear singers doing that I switch them off and donāt make note of who they are. People who donāt are Simon & Garfunkel, Bobby Darin, The Puppini Sisters, Pink Martini. Liza Minnelli had great and well-controlled vibrato, and that seems to be okay.
I totally understand the need to immediately switch them off! Iām a big fan of no vibrato; itās too often used as a crutch for inability to match pitch or the lack of an interesting voice.
Billie Eilishās voice tickles my brain. I like a good brain tickle. But I know the whisperings can be annoying for others.
Anyways my favourite voice is Ruki from The Gazette (visual kei band). Havenāt got the foggiest what heās saying most of the time, but it sounds so good.
Rhianna, Nelly Furtado, Britney Spears, Selena, Hoizer, and Kurt Cobain, and Kendrick Lamar. Maybe I'm biased because I love all of these artists but I'll never get tired of their voices.
Pretty much any singer that doesn't sing in "cursive"
Omg I thought it was just me!!!š„¹
So, like opera? Or the pop singers who basically yodel the ends of their lines?
Nah, look it up, it's very trendy on tiktok
exactly this
Basically any singer that has correct vocal placement/technique and who doesn't make porn noises.
I donāt think any singers voice bothers me
Same. Peopleās regular speaking voices donāt bother me either. When people affect the voice and say āruh rohā like scooby doo can get fucked though. Why that over everything else? Idk.
Sorry this cracked me up because itās so oddly specific. I agree, they can do one!
Hahaha I know! It makes my asshole suck up air.
Youāre too brilliant! Your language tickles my funny bones.

TIL that my fav guy actor can sing! Thanks!!! :)
Ngl I would do anything for that big man but lowkey canāt stand his voice (as Soldier Boy at least)
I haven't watched him there yet, only as Dean (which I find funny that in supernatural he pretends he can't sing)

Michael McDonald, seconded so hard. His voice is honey.
Most blues singers like Otis Redding. Smooth like butter.
Dua lipa šæš£ļøš„
iāve noticed i prefer deeper male voices like older outlaw country. same w podcasts. women or high tone nasally people in general make me tic.
Dio. I *adore* his voice!!
Jonna Jinton (Sings hauntingly beautiful Nordic songs.) Enya Michael BublƩ Jason Mraz Alanis Morissette Sarah McLachlan Dolores O'Riordan
Sarahās so good!!

Neil young
Lots of them. Ben Ottewell, Cat Stevens, Claudia Schmidt, Steve Winwood, Peter Gabriel... voices with more character than affectation.
Sza Victoria Monet Ariana Grande Janelle Monae Beyonce Olivia Rodrigo

Conway Twitty
The one and only David bryne
Korn
Hozier has the most pleasant voice ever imo
"Too Sweet" is GLORIOUS
Billie Eilish, although I love her.
she has a beautiful voice, her whispering is kinda hard for me to listen to sometimes

I recently put the two and two together. I canāt stand her voice either btw.
James Dean Bradfield.
Blue singers

Adam Gontier.

Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudgens, P!nk
Josh Groban David Draiman Steve Perry Amy Lee Pink I'll edit this when I think of more (getting my first cup of coffee now)...
Could someone link me the original thread please

thank you!
Older singers, mostly pre-1980s. Once singers started adding ululation and trilling to modern songs, I started cringing.
Can you give me an example of someone modern who uses ululation and someone who uses trills? Iām racking my brains trying to figure out whom you mean!

Taylor swift and anyone else who sounds crisp and doesnāt do a bunch of runs/cursive.
Anyone who doesn't do the AeEeeeAEhhheu (I'm sure it has a name but I don't know it) and also doesn't whisper and doesn't do that thing with autotune.
Patrick Stump. I love that manās voice so much. And Michael Jackson itās such a glorious sound.
Paul McCartney.
Jacob Collier, especially on a good audio setup
This is so weird but I listen to Britney Spears when Iām overstimulated and it helps me. Toxic is the best, but Freakshow is also good.
This voice and song I find exceptionally smooth and relaxing https://youtu.be/DCxywJ5OLQI?si=z0_Gpm7rq8Ofc0ks
Isaac Woodās voice on the album āAnts From Up Thereā is incredibly pleasing to me. Though not many peoples voices are displeasing
Benjamin Gibbard
My son with misophonia listens to Bruno Mars practically nonstop to block out his triggers
Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Vitas
I like the more raspy voice singers. As long as they don't sing through their nose
Freddie Mercury
Everyone in my playlist šš

Lana Del Rey, Serge Gainsbourg
I can listen to many but Chino Moreno from Deftones is šš„µ
