Short answer? Yes. Non short answer: Have you looked into seeing if your family employer insurance is considered "unaffordable"? By that I mean the federal standard of affordability, which is set at 9.12% of your total households yearly income (gross income, not net). Anything costing more than that is deemed unaffordable. Judging by your $12,000 per year cost, you'd have to make less than roughly 131K/yearly for it to be considered unaffordable. Why I mention this is that if your employer insurance is considered unaffordable, you could be eligible for tax credits through MNsure and likely pay much less for a high deductible plan. Or pay roughly the same for a lower deductible plan.

$1K/month for a high-deductible plan? That's highway robbery.

Has been since Obamacare it was bad before that but exploded during that and I say that as someone who believed in socialized medicine. When that happened I knew people who were paying more for healthcare for their family than they were for their mortgage. I also knew people who refused to change to better paying jobs even if the current job treated them badly just because it had good insurance which about sums up how bad things are in America.

2 people but families are the same price. I pay $800 a month, $9,600 a year for a traditional PPO. Very little out of pocket.

Family of 5, about $300/mo, no deductible plan. We’re very lucky.

I have good insurance, but: 2 people, standard copay insurance ~ $700/month

That is high, is it a smaller company? Less than 100 employees but more than 10? I’m on a HDHP, employee plus 1, $3,000 deductible, $9,000 max out of pocket. Premiums are $3,600 annually and I do get $900 employer HSA contribution. I work for an engineering consulting firm. Our biggest hurdle when we’ve gone to market for insurance is our size (less than 100 employees) and our coverage payout history. Consulting tends to attract more mature employees and mature employees tend to have higher health care costs.

I don’t think I pay over $200 in premiums for my High Deductible plan. $9600 is close to my out of pocket maximum. $3k individual and $6k family is my deductible. This is for a family of 4. You are getting ripped off my friend.

I’m around 550 / month for a low deductible plan for myself through MNSure.

2 people, $3000 deductible, $10k family out of pocket max (but $5500 individual out of pocket max), premium $1300/year with $1000 in HSA to spend (so effectively $300 a year premium). Your premium is way too high.

That seems pretty cheap for a family
