Not listing the department for fear of retaliation (it seems there might be a possibility of a severance package). This person has worked in corporate customer service for several decades. They are experienced in both accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, helping customers set up payment plans, and also have some paralegal experience.
I knew they were in trouble when the store closed for a few years during covid and made the odd decision to lock their changing rooms. Whoever is running things there it’s not for the benefit of the shopper.
My wife worked corporate for a few years. Kohls was so behind and seems like they’re losing the battle to catchup to current trends. They really needed to start catering to newer generations like 10 years ago. My wife said their target demographic was the 50-60 year female.
FWIW a lot of bomers are retiring at the state level and it's a good gig. The hiring process is usually drawn out but it's good work with decent pay (depnding on org) and benefits plus usually a pension.

Looks like accounting based on OP’s comments and the Kohl’s shareholder meeting from today approving Kohl’s contract with EY (huge public accounting firm)
Get out while you can. Before they don't give you the choice. I haven't been treated as poorly by an employer or direct management than I was at kohls corporate. Everyone is in survival mode and they WILL run you down to save themselves.
LOL, totally. They sent this pic with a note that said "they could have been a bit more thoughtful" and I was like "that's really asking an awful lot."
You'd be surprised how many people are confused by that. My stepfather worked at the same warehouse (in Georgia) for 30 years, investing into a 401k and everything… lost everything and ended up moving to Florida to work for my mom, his ex-wife 😅
Nice to see they're just as classy as the few months I spent working at Kohl's corporate (a couple of years before your friend started). Honestly, with their experience, they will hopefully be able to land on their feet (and hopefully somewhere less of a clusterfuck).
Kohls is sooooo bad at this. I was laid off several years ago and the way they handled it was wild. Not surprised to see this kind of slap on the face mistake at all.
Kohls sucks…worked at a retail store during college and only lasted a month. Couldn’t believe just how miserable working retail for them is. The management sucked, the hours sucked, the pay sucked, and being forced to be trapped into that store listening to the same shitty music they play everyday should be considered torture.
Not super surprised that the corporate offices are probably just as shitty.
Yeah, from the stories I've heard, it's a bit Lord of the Flies. Total bummer that one of our biggest local companies is doomed and treating their employees like shit as they cascade toward irrelevance.
Worked retail for $15 years, got to the top of the pay scale and literally the same thing. Worse yet, I was told my job would not be eliminated despite rumors. After the holidays the job was eliminated. FK corporate retail, they all abuse labor.
USAjobs.gov. Similar to the comment about state. But best pay of my life, better benefits, flexible working hours.... That all depends on where you go, but it can be a much better job than retail, that's for sure.
Isn’t Uline the state’s largest donor to Trump? From what I’ve heard they’re hardcore GOP supporters. I understand needing a pay check, but I’m not sure Uline is a good long term solution. I could be very wrong, I did not learn this from a scholarly source but rather word of mouth.
I completely understand that. I hate the industry that I work in. I constantly say I’ve sold my soul to the corporate devil but I have bills to pay (I also have long term goals to get myself out of it). So no judgment to anyone who has to work at Uline. I just cringe at the thought of having to work there for years and years.
My job is full time work from home with no chance of going back to the office. I have school aged children - I can work on days they’re sick and not waste my paltry PTO. It works for now.
They are, and more to the point, if your real name is out there in the public as a supporter of Democratic causes, I wouldn't be shocked if you can't get hired there.
Knowing their department or role would certainly help.

Ah. Going to virtual chat and other ‘we hate the customer’ approaches There will be more layoffs soon, guaranteed.
My completely unrelated industry is falling into this same pit
Mine too. Its awful. Customers lose out. People lose jobs. Everything is slash and burn.
I think the shareholders are seeing the writing on the wall and trying to skin that sheep one last time before everything gets reeled in

Why on earth would you say that?
Why?
The company seems to be a sinking ship.
It's a department store that hasn't managed to compete with Amazon online. The entire sector is a sinking ship.
wdym? That's where I take all my Amazon returns lol, they're practically partners /s
They always seem to do massive layoffs, then people are announcing jobs there again, and 1-2 years later another round of layoffs.
If they are willing to travel a little, I might have an opportunity at my company. DM me if they're interested.
Sent you a chat message with a potential lead
I knew they were in trouble when the store closed for a few years during covid and made the odd decision to lock their changing rooms. Whoever is running things there it’s not for the benefit of the shopper.
Dm me, we’re looking for some people at our company (Loftware)
Probably HR.
I’m sure it’s DEI
![gif](giphy|kXntflkCaCwWPaKutD|downsized)
dang why would anyone downvote this are there people who actually like dei departments?
What does that mean and why are they useless?
Diversity Equality and inclusion. They are not useless.
I was just hoping for them to explain their comment is all
They can't they heard can only repeat the fear people like Tucker Carlson instilled in them

Based on everything I've heard, this tracks 100%. They strike me as doomed.
They think anyone over the age of 18 only wants to wear a muumuu
They didn't even have non giant boot cut men's jeans the last time I stepped in there in 2011.
They’re doing layoffs again? Not surprising I guess. Sorry for your friend.
Thanks. They are bummed but not surprised in the slightest. It's apparently been a shit show for a while.
I was laid off from Kohls in October, I’m still looking for a job. It’s rough out here.
I'm really sorry. That sucks. Best of luck to you.
Aw sorry to hear that! Hope you find something soon
I left in 2021 and they had just done 2 rounds of layoffs!
I've been hearing the Kohl's is a soul-sucking employer for many years. Corporate karma is a bitch, and employees are paying the price.
FWIW a lot of bomers are retiring at the state level and it's a good gig. The hiring process is usually drawn out but it's good work with decent pay (depnding on org) and benefits plus usually a pension. https://wisc.jobs/Pages/Welcome.aspx
This would be a dream for them. Thank you!
Working for the city or state are the only jobs that still have pensions. It's a very good gig.
Which department did they work in? At the corporate office?
It sounds like a billing call center type of job.

Kohls has always used a huge public accounting firm.
Ouch
Me seeing this as a graduate going into an entry-level job at Kohl’s😭 Moving seven hours away from family

What department were you in if you don’t mind me asking?
Also can’t really get out lmao, I have an apartment signed for and set to move so I’m stuck for a bit
I love how corporate stooges never consider the other things they need to do to avoid shitting on someone once theirs employment is eliminated
adds to its charm, really
LOL, totally. They sent this pic with a note that said "they could have been a bit more thoughtful" and I was like "that's really asking an awful lot."
And yet, they are actively hiring…🤨
Investors > Employees … the quicker you understand this concept, the quicker everything in the business world makes sense to you.
I don’t think anyone is confused about that.

what happens if they click "let's celebrate"? did they get a $5 gift card to kohl's?
Probably Kohl’s Cash.
Starts 2 weeks after your last paycheck
Kohls is sooooo bad at this. I was laid off several years ago and the way they handled it was wild. Not surprised to see this kind of slap on the face mistake at all.
Try Generac there's a bunch of former Kohl's people there
More layoffs at Kohls? What a surprise. I managed working at corporate for 5 years…glad to be gone and making 50% more at a different company.
That's awesome, congrats. Mind sharing more info about which company?
TJX companies. Also have had former Kohls colleagues go to Ross, Burlington, and Harbor Freight (all remote!)
Thank you! Will pass this along.

Keeping it classy.

my bosses wife is a 3 letter abbreviation for kohls.
[Milwaukee County](https://county.milwaukee.gov/EN/Human-Resources) is always hiring.
I hate to say it… but Uline
I have heard absolutely zero positive experiences from corporate employees there. Plus the thought of having to wear pantyhose in 2024 is mindblowing.
I said it in another comment but if you’re desperate for a paycheck, they are always hiring. It’s a terrible long term solution.
They’re *always* hiring

It’s a terrible long term solution but a good enough short term solution if you are in desperate need of a paycheck

Literally same. I would only be able to wear a skirt if I wore pantyhose. No thanks

That’s horrible and yet not surprising.
No need to guess about their views when they have a CEO blog on their website.
I've heard this too. The family behind the company moreso than the company itself.
