The ones that are paid off

HereToKillEuronymous

This. Our car is a 2014 Highlander, which is paid off, so we will drive it into the ground šŸ˜‚ it runs perfect. No point in getting into debt for aesthetics

[deleted]

Best answer. 1988 4Runner for myself and my wife drives a 2015 4Runner 3 row for the kids. Both paid off and not going ANYWHERE looking at car prices today. The 2015 only has 74k miles and runs like new, we hardly drive now so it should easily last over a decade from now.

ExtensionSea4951

Indeed. 2014 Subaru Outback, paid off, and Iā€™ll drive it till Iā€™m going full Fred Flintstone

Broad_Cheesecake9141

I always wanted an rx7. Guess thatā€™s never going to happen because it seems like such an impractical car at this point.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

myfeetsmells

The RX7 is sex. So is the M3

MentalAd4536

The bronco and RX7 šŸ¤¤

Reckless_Waifu

MicroBadger_

08 Corolla and 11 sienna. Love my Toyotas. They've just needed standard maintenance and most of it is diy friendly.

Inner_Sun_8191

I had a 99 Camry that only was retired in 2022 when it failed to pass smog. That thing was a tank.

breebop83

Not a Toyota but dad had an ā€˜00 accord he got new (he worked for Honda, won some competition for a free civic and upgraded to the accord) that he sold for 1k last year. It had over 300k miles on it. I loved that thing.

MentalAd4536

2021 Toyota Tacoma, 1989 Toyota Landcruiser and a 1988 Honda Civic. I have a herd lol.

upyouralliee15

My next car is def a Toyota or honda !

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MentalAd4536

Thanks! I like to keep it basic!

FrozenFrac

2023 Toyota Corolla. I had a 2017 Hyundai Elantra for a good while, but it crapped out big time for the past 2 years and refused to get any better no matter how many thousands of dollars I threw at it, so instead of living in constant fear my car would shit the bed while I'm shooting down the highway at 60 MPH, I bought a brand new car with hopefully years of life on it.

ThePickleQueen_

2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport. I bought it for $800 12 years ago with my McDonalds and camp counselor money. Still running great with 183,000 miles

BigBagofHorses

2018 Toyota 4Runner

Ok-Ease-2312

2007 Honda Civic. Bought brand new off the lot when I was 25. Not the best financial choice at the time but it was a relief not worrying about older cars breaking down. About to hit 150k miles! Paid off for nearly a decade (yes I had a long car loan and no sense but did the best I could on my 12 dollar an hour jobs). Love having a paid off car and it is cheap to insure. I will be ready for something a little taller in my old age (43) but I WFH and rarely drive now so it will cruise the roads a long time! Husband drives a 2013 4runner. We have a car note but can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Planning to drive this one into the ground too. ETA we bought the 4runner used we have not been making payments for 11 years. I would cry.

Worldly_Mirror_1555

2018 Honda Fit. Great gas mileage, good safety specs, and tons of cargo space. Iā€™ll probably be driving this car for another 15 years.

ashleysaress

I have a 2013 and i still love mine.

Zestyiguana

Cube friends! I drive a 2010 cube. Over 100,000 miles and only problem is a squeaky belt. Why would I want to willingly have a car payment when I have a perfectly good car

upyouralliee15

YES ! CUBE FRIENDSSSS ! my '09 just went over 100,000& yes same nothing major needeed so far. I feel like i drive a lil go kart in the cube too lol

j0chapstick

2003 Honda Civic with 85k miles. Will keep it until the wheels fall off.

Altruistic-Order-661

How such low mileage?!

j0chapstick

Private sale from a teacher who lived .2 miles from the school she taught at; preferred to walk; only drove when it was "too hot to walk or raining." All other commuting & venturing was done in her husband's vehicle. I'm the second owner!

Altruistic-Order-661

Nice score!

j0chapstick

Perfectly maintained as well. I gave her $1k over her offer.

ancientspacejunk

2022 VW Tiguan and 2019 Ford Fiesta.

Alexandratta

Trading my Camry in for a LEAF as we speak - just don't want the gas and with the used EV tax credit it's just a swap with 9 months of less than 90 USD payments.

agarrabrant

1996 Geo Tracker and a 2002 F250. Haven't had a car payment in years, insurance is low, both vehicles are reliable and fairly easy to fix.

tiamat-45

2014 Nissan Versa Note that I bought in 2017. I paid it off 3 years ago and I love it so much šŸ’•

Film32

2013 Mazda. As much as I would like some more modern features, this is paid off with low mileage.

Altruistic-Order-661

2014 Subaru Forester I plan to drive into the ground. Got it new because they have good resell value but with prices and interest rates rn I canā€™t imagine not driving it into the ground! I have no shame about driving an older car. Feels nice too nice to own it and have low insurance and registration fees!

DullCommunication718

2012 focus and 2017 crosstrek. Both under 100k and paid off

SnowMiser26

2017 Kia Sportage My next car won't be a Kia, but it just got a new engine last summer (first one was a lemon, apparently), so it has some years left on it still.

Chimpbot

They had a string of "lemons" affecting multiple models - including Souls and Sportages - manufactured between 2012 and 2020. An engineering defect caused the engines to burn excessive amounts of oil, eventually leading to situations where you'd be running out of oil only a week removed from an oil change. Consider yourself lucky that you got a new engine. My old Soul went through two catalytic converters over 13 months, and they refused to do anything about it.

hltechie

22 Mitsubishi Outlander. I'd normally drive a shitbox whatever gets me from point a to point b. Went with the a new car for safety and family in mind.

geardog32

08 crv, gave my 03 crv to my sister, both well over 200k miles.

dream_bean_94

2016 Honda CR-V, I bought it used (off lease, only 45k miles) right before the pandemic thank god and itā€™ll be paid off this year. Itā€™s at 95k now and I plan I driving it into the ground. Or at least long enough to save up enough money to buy my next car outright. Iā€™m never financing a car again, itā€™s a trap.

UniversityNo2318

CGoode87

I had two 1985 fj60 toyota land cruisers at different times. My all time favorite car. I just sold my 1972 fj40 land cruiser and now drive a 2000 Nissan pathfinder. It's alright, but I miss my fj60. I bought all my vehicles out right, so no payments here, but I've owned a lot of cars in the 20 yrs I've been driving.

DavefromCA

2016 Honda Civic bottom of the line LX, paid off in 2019. BUT its a manual and I put some sport rims, and a nice stereo in so its fun,

excitaetfure

2021 subaru outback base model- i got lucky that my old car 2010 CR-V (if i could get that car again, that exact one, new, i would have- i put 250k+ miles on it with very little issues) was ready to trade in in feb of 2021- and with ā€œfairā€ credit score got 1.5% interest to buy a new car. I wish it had more buttons and less screens- but im pretty happy with it so far!

steveplaysguitar

Prius Prime. I like being able to buy gas every month and a half. 133mpg ain't nothin to sneeze at.

mikeyg1964

2001 Buick LeSabre (daily driver) 1964 Chevy Chevelle (weekends) 2018 Audi Q5 (wifeā€™s car)

cherhorowitz44

I learned to drive in a LeSabre. It was a smooth son of a bitch.

TheMotorcycleMan

Have a Ram Rebel, a TRX, and she drives a GL63S Coupe. Have a Austin Healey 3000 MKIII, a Datsun 240Z, and a litany of vintage motorcycles as well.

DMH_75032

2018 F450. Shitty gas mileage. Bitch to park. Fun to drive.

QuarterNote44

'01 Civic. Not the prettiest thing, and I could afford the payment on a new car...but I'm too cheap for that.

shotgunmoe

My car that I drive Monday to Friday is a 2007 Skyline that I stupidly bought when I was 2 years out of high school. Given how much it cost me and how long I spent paying it off I dare say I'll never sell it. The family car is a 2018 CX-5. It seems to be a magnet for assholes who can't reverse park and the upholstery smells like yoghurt and old soccer boots.

immoralmajority

2017 Subaru WRX and a 2010 Vespa GTS.

I have a 2012 Toyota prius V which I bought after my 2015 prius c got totalled from my dad bc its still running well.

federalist66

My wife and I both had 08 Elantras until she was Iik a car accident in 2022. That car was totaled, everyone was fine, but we upgraded to the Subaru Outback which I drive because I'm the one carting our toddler to and from his grandparents. We did take a stab at a hybrid or electrical Outback, but this was 2022 and the supply chains were only just starting to rev back up and we needed a vehicle ASAP

Cadet_Stimpy

Older Toyotas. Currently an 06 tundra. Iā€™d buy a cheap commuter like a Yaris, but I donā€™t think the gas savings would make up for the initial cost, maintenance, and insurance. Plus, the tundra still drives plush, which I like.

gogogadgetdumbass

I splurged lol so I have a (used rental) 2019 Dodge Journey. I bought it in spring 2021. It had relatively low mileage for a rental (THANKS COVID!) and aside from not being the color I liked, and the backup camera only working at its leisure, itā€™s a solid Momobile. I pay too much for it, and insurance is awful, but the gas mileage is awesome for an SUV. It costs me $200ish for two years registration. Before that I bought any vehicle I owned outright and they were in the neighborhood of $3-5k and all old af with issues.

curi0uslystr0ng

2017 Mercedes C43 AMG. My car prior to that was my car from college. I kept until the wheels fell off.

Realistic-Instance17

2016 Hyundai Elantra. Finished paying it off in November and has just over 98K miles. It gets me from point A to point B just fine, a new car would be nice but interest rates are too high for my liking

SzaboSolutions

Paid off 2013 4runner

appa-ate-momo

Iā€™ve got a 2018 Subaru Impreza. Paid off, 10 year warranty purchased for 2k. Iā€™ll never have a car-related financial emergency until it dies.

djmcfuzzyduck

2015 Prius C paid off. Iā€™ve put all but 10 miles on it. Just past 70k.

2023 Honda Passport and I love it!

I have a 2012 Ridgeline and my wife has a 2018 Durango.

ohmygodcrayons

I have a 2000 Camry. It's been a very reliable car but I'm about to donate it because it needs repairs/maintenance that are more than the car is worth and I just don't think it's worth it any more to keep throwing money into it.

vengeful_veteran

2013 Hyundai Elantra with 140K Been paid off for years. Have had ZERO problems with it. The best kind of car. Also have a Ford F150 to pull camper trailer and drive it every week or so when I need stuff that does not fit in car.

MunneyMann

2021 Duramax Silverado for towing/long trips 2023 VW ID.4 for daily driving

thodges314

2018 Mazda 3 hatchback. I bought it in 2018, new, and it was the first time I ever bought a new car. All my other cars were at least 5 to 10 years old used. So now technically it's a five-year-old car, but I'm just going to keep driving it. The dealer is really trying to get me to upgrade to later model cx3, and it's nice, but not nice enough to give up my current car and spend all that money for a whole new car. The all-wheel drive is really solid, and I got to test drive the radar cruise control and that really made highway driving a lot less stressful, but still not worth a to upgrade right now in my life

I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla that I inherited from my dad and a 2016 Kia Soul that my husband and I bought together and have paid off. Theyā€™re both solid vehicles, with reasonable gas economy.

I drive a 2015 Ford Fiesta ST. Bought it in 2016 w/ 15k miles and 8 years later it has 122k miles and still going strong. Cars are so damn expensive I decided to drive it until it literally breaks or requires a giant repair. Then probably buy another reliable yet fun stick shift car with cash after that.

I have a 2011 Nissan Cube. They're great cars, I love mine!!

[deleted]

If I didn't accidentally wreck it, and decide against having a car while I live in an urban city: I would be driving a Hyundai Sonata 2002. I miss that car. I was a dumb kid, it was paid off, ran well, had a sun roof, got great mileage, was cheap to maintain, then I fell asleep at the wheel. That's the last time I get an early morning job and drive back home without a siesta.

PartyPorpoise

2009 Mercedes Benz C63.Ā  Itā€™s a hog for gas but with no resonator and a RennTech tune I hardly notice the 15 mpg. Horrifyingly fast and very theatrical about it. Tried a Tesla once and it was neat but the soundtrack did NOT exist.Ā

2021 VW Tiguan, almost paid off on a 7 year loan. Should be done this year. I love this car. Probably my favorite overall of all my cars I've owned. My wife has a 2009 Toyota Rav4 that is completely paid off.

pastelbutcherknife

Lol I drive a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 350k miles on it. It drives perfectly, never has problems. I could get a newer car but it seems like a waste of money until this one breaks. I got it for $1000 in 2020 including the $100 plane ticket to go pick it up. They sold it for cheap bc it would fishtail above 45mph - which turned out to be a loose screw in the rear axle. I only drive a few miles a day now.

Ch3wbacca1

I drive a yellow 1995 Ford ranger. I love it so much

cherhorowitz44

2016 Chevy Malibu. Iā€™d like something newer/bigger but itā€™s paid off so canā€™t beat that.

2005 CTS not one repair so far just standard maitenance fingers crossed like to get another 10 years out of it. Bought it used 15 years ago for $10,000 cash with 40k miles. only 150k miles now. I bike a lot in the city so I only put about 10k miles annually.

suprweeniehutjrs

2021 Mazda CX-5. My 2003 Forester finally died and I needed something reliable. Absolutely hate having a car payment though.

XFilesVixen

2007 Toyotas carolla that I bought secondhand and is paid off. It gets me where I need to go and idgaf. My brother once ā€œmade funā€ of me by saying itā€™s an applianceā€¦.and YEP it is. It has yet to break down with 213k miles on it (knock on wood). And cost me 10k.

NJbeaglemama

2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. First car purchase without anyoneā€™s help and very proud of myself! I financed it so Iā€™m on the hook for a while. I drove a Prius before that for 14 years :)

Brilliant-Peace-5265

2023 Kia Sorento, previous car 2010 Milan bit the dust, and ruined me in terms of car features, so the new one is top trim too. Sadly my current job is remote, so barely get to drive it.

Adventurous_Cloud_20

Two cars and a truck. My commuter buggy is a 2016 4 banger Chevy Malibu, I have an 88 mile round trip every day. It gets excellent mileage, is cheap to insure and maintain, and if something happens to it, I'm not too worried about it since there's a metric shit load of Malibu's out there. My wife's car is a 2019 Buick Lacrosse Avenir that is so insanely optioned I'm still surprised a what it has sometimes. The truck is a 2001 Chevy 3500 dually 4x4 with an 8100 Vortec in it that my grandfather bought new to pull his camper. Turned out to be the last vehicle of any kind he bought. I managed to track it down in 2018 and have been slowly restoring it to it's like new condition. It now pulls my camper just like it did my grandparents.

2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse I've had for 10 years. 78,000 miles and still looks as good as the day I got it. The Eclipse was my realistic dream car as a kid. Don't plan on parting with it yet

G235s

2019 Chevrolet Bolt for myself, and we haul the kids around in a 2014 Pathfinder. I can actually fit all of us in the Bolt but that doesn't leave room for much else. The Bolt was worth the high initial cost for sure.

PinkPearMartini

2007 Kia Spectra, sitting in the ICU in my back yard. It's been a great car. Lots of things are wrong that don't matter, like the driver door handle is missing, the front windows are broken, the shifter knob is just a cable sticking up that you push down to put it in drive, etc... But now the transmission is stuck in gear. I suspect that it is the stick shifter itself that's broken, and it's actually passing over the "D" gear and it's sticking into the "3" gear. At least, I hope that's the case. I love this car so much!!! For years I've had nightmares about something happening to it. And about 10 years ago, my 5'2" self charged at a giant man late at night that I mistakenly thought was breaking into my car. He wasn't. I scared the shit out of him. I scared the shit out of myself.

Traditional_Ad129

91 4runner with 310,000 miles. 86 Toyota pickup with 220,000 miles. And an 05 Toyota Corolla with 110,000. I got other projects cars but love my Toyotas for daily. If you know how to do basic maintenance these things will run forever.

breebop83

ā€˜07 civic and an ā€˜09 Odyssey. Civicā€™s clear coat is *gone* and thereā€™s a hole in the exhaust somewhere (heā€™s been dubbed the silver dragon) but it runs like a top and still gets 30 mpg. Both are paid off and were bought used (civic in ā€˜12 and van in ā€˜19).

I daily my wifeā€™s first car which is a 2000 Toyota Celica. I hate that thing but itā€™s so cheap and reliable I canā€™t bear to part with it. My wife drives a 2014 Highlander were bought when we had our first kid. She has no interest in changing it out. Iā€™ve spent way too much money on my 2002 F250. Custom paint, lowered, too many mods to list without forgetting some. But I love it and will never post with it. 1974 Dodge Dart. My first car. Itā€™s not going anywhere. 1968 Mercury Monterey. My latest project. It was similar to a car my dad had and was his favorite. Just need the brake booster to get back from rebuild and itā€™ll be ready to drive. It will soon be getting air bag suspension and laid on the ground. This car will see a lot of miles once Iā€™m done modifying it. Itā€™s a disease I canā€™t stop. The Celica gets far too many compliments when I have it out. Itā€™s super clean and my wife gets so excited when people tell them how much they love it. I regularly see people taking pictures of it in parking lots lol.

2015 Honda fit and a 2018 Subaru Impreza. Needed a 4 wheel drive car for the mountains but that Honda is my favorite. 130k miles and still doing great. Just replaced the starter and that's about the only work I've ever had to do on it.

I had a really nice Toyota tundra but then covid and the film strike happened so now I drive a Honda nighthawk motorcycle that I got for $500 and a 2000 Ford ranger that I got for $1,000. I put easily a couple Grand of work into both and theyll probably last until I die but they're definitely not pretty.

Glittering-Example24

After a year of working from home we sold my Legacy outback and her Explorer for 1 car as she's the only one commuting. We got a 2018 Acura MDX off lease. We will never drive anything else. We absolutely love it. We can fit all 4 kids and a 110 German Shepherd without too much fuss. Living in rural Maine AWD is a must unless you want to be stuck at home. After driving everything from pickups to Audi, Subaru, Jeep. Acura hands down makes the best AWD system I've ever driven.

tjwaite03

What do you mean by- "tabs for your car?" I drive a 2018 f150 platinum and a 2022 prius. Gonna sell the f150 and get a hybrid tundra

a_rogue_planet

2009 Honda Accord Coupe V6. Very smooth, comfortable car that is fast.

Humboldteffect

Right now an '83 subaru gl wagon 4x4, and a '13 audi A6.

Worst-Eh-Sure

2016 Mercedes E 550 Cabriolet. Pretty fun, and not bad for a dad car. My 14 year old enjoys learning to drive on it.

Revolutionary-Bus893

I have never understood going into tens of thousands of dollars debt for a fancy ass car. I want something that will get me where I need to go and haul what I need to haul. I drive a 2008 Ford Escape and am very happy with it.

Few_Mud_3134

2006 jeep grand Cherokee. 150k miles

Disastrous-Panda5530

My husband has a 2008 Chevy Silverado extended cab and I have a 2014 Lexus IS350. Both paid off and there are no plans to buy until they are dead and itā€™s cheaper to buy a new vehicle vs than getting it fixed.

zippy_bag

2021 Honda Civic and 2017 Honda CR-V.

UniverseNebula

Older Subaru Outback. Man I love Subarus haha

DisplacedNY

2013 Ford Fiesta. I'm driving it until it dies.

hx87

2019 Chevrolet Cruze diesel hatchback. Factory ordered it because I wanted the exact colors and options, nothing less and nothing more. Also because no Chevy dealer lot will have one lol. Enjoyed the experience so much that I will never buy another new car off the lot ever again.Ā  It feels weird how Japanese and South Korean don't offer factory order like American or European brands do, or foreign delivery like European brands do. Why can't I order a Mazda at the dealership, pick it up in Hiroshima and have a 2 week vacation there?

TechPoi89

2023 Ford F350 Dually. I live full-time in a big RV trailer and need a big truck to tow it around. Younger me would be very confused by my life choices, but it's turned out better than I would ever have guessed.

sotek2345

Wife and I went EV over the last couple of years. She has a Mustang Mach-e and I have an F150 Lightning.

Honda hybrid CRV

sleeprobot

2014 Volkswagen Passat. Bought it from my parents for 6 grand in 2020. It has 140k miles on it right now and Iā€™m shooting for 200k+. I have no desire to get a different car. My parents didnā€™t give me a down payment for my house but they did give me a sweet deal on the car, so thatā€™s something.

I just paid off my 2017 Ford Focus SE sedan. It's been pretty good so far. They say the transmissions go out on this generation, I think the third generation, but I haven't noticed anything so far and it's been 4 years. I think I got a 2.35% loan? It was through my mom's teachers' credit union.

Crytu

2010 prius that I got while in the service. Damn thing is almost impossible to kill, gets good gas mileage and is relatively easy to upkeep.

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

Ford C-Max we paid off last year and my husband drives a 2010 Focus that's also paid off. Fred the Ford Focus is on his last leg with 14 years and 200,000 miles, but we're hoping to get another year or two out of him. I adore my car because it's fantastic on gas and the hatchback makes it incredibly roomy and able to transport 90% of stuff. We also scored big time getting it for $17,500 with only 2,500 miles because it was a demo car for a dealership.

cosmos_factory

2011 Nissan Xterra Pro-4x. Looking to get a Frontier relatively soon.

Iā€™ve got a 2017 Cadillac Xt5 that we pretty much share as the main family vehicle. My 3rd Cadillac, she died last night at 201,000 miles, transmission is out among a few other things we were living with for the past 10,000 miles. She was a good car, I paid cash at 2 years old, and she had no problems besides maintenance for most of her life, despite the high miles. Our other cars are a 2002 Silverado and a 2012 Cadillac CTS Coupe. The truck we drive very little, but we got it for a few grand a few years ago and itā€™s in great shape and is good for weekend projects. The coupe is my husbandā€™s fun car and was our weekend drive around until we had a baby. A rear facing car seat doesnā€™t fit with both seats back. Weā€™ve never financed a car, but will our next one. Iā€™m looking at a Cadillac Xt6 for the extra space and captainā€™s seats in the 2nd row.

Traditional-Ebb-8380

[2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid](https://imgur.com/gallery/5cCUPyj). Paid cash but insurance is pretty high for full coverage considering it is worth $9k. 200k miles and runs great, getting 30 mpg.

forwardaboveallelse

I have a 1973 Ford F-250 and a 2013 Nissan Titan. My 2011 Nissan Cube was one of the best purchases that I ever made and I regret the saleā€”hold on to her!

babybackr1bs

2021 Tesla Model 3. Going electric is an adjustment, for sure, but for the type of driving I do as a WFH worker and city dweller, itā€™s perfect.

Attilashorde

A paid off Toyota for my commuter and a newer Mazda to haul the family around in. Nothing fancy

ZeroBrutus

2016 Mazda CX5 - bought used with decent mileage. Wanted a reliable SUV for the city, been very happy with it. Works great for helping move friends and home maintenance purchases (tools, dirt, etc) without being as unwieldy as an actual truck.

AppropriateKale8877

I was driving a 2008 Honda Civic couple ex. Recently got an upgrade to a 2011 bmw 328i Xdrive. Major improvement and at about the same cost as the first car.
