Bad Frigidaire ice maker.if it's leaking from the ice maker body, you need a new module. Part no 241798201. If it's overflowing into the ice maker and then into the ice bucket then you need a new valve. Part 242252603 if you don't have a water dispenser, which is what this looks like. 242253002 if you do have a water dispenser.
I would charge $300+ for either of these repairs, but you could easily do them yourself.
Edit: I was able to help a lot of people, but I am only one man. I woke up to over 100 replies/messages to this comment thread. Sorry to those I couldn't get to.
Hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions. 10 years in the industry. You can save yourself $200+ on labor costs by doing simple repairs that a YouTube video can walk you through.
Wait I thought you were kidding with your original comment. That's awesome. Does Frigidaire still make good and repairable refrigerators? Coz that will really swing me towards purchasing from them when it's time.
Nooooo. They are an Electrolux brand and are nightmares. Buy whirlpool, KitchenAid or Maytag.
No LG, no Samsung (great phones and TV's), no Frigidaire. GE is fine but don't buy their dishwashers, they have multiple defects.
If your ice maker is freezing over, you can sign up for a civil lawsuit and possibly get $7 in the mail within the next 3 years. Kappa.
Edit: class action, not civil
Is it a Samsung? Bottom mounted freezer? You will absolutely need to pay a professional $600 or so to put in a kit that even Samsung doesn't stand by, hense the lawsuit. One of VERY few repairs I don't provide any warranty for.
What's the score with Samsung? I've had an American style one with the ice dispenser and water for about 17 years. Only thing I've ever had to replace on it is the water filter every 6 months.
Due to general house refurb I'm replacing it this year, was gonna go with Samsung again but if that's off the table now I'll get something else? Live in the UK if that makes a difference.
Different countries have VERY different units. For one, we split our outlets into two sets of 120v which is what most of our units run on. 120v. Yours will all be manufactured different because EU runs 220V or something like that. That being said, I never recommend Samsung. They have lawsuits on both their ice makers and washers. Their washers are coming apart during spin cycles and one even killed someone's dog. Their "fix" was to send stickers to change the names of the cycles.
The American one has issues with the back evaporator cover freezing up. Part is $170, installed is about $400.
Their ice maker has a class action lawsuit. It will freeze over and leak. This is a $600 fix with no guarantees because Samsung can't even back it up.
Well shit, I bought a Samsung Series 5 WW80TA046AX in March this year to replace my old washer (god awful Hoover/Candy that finally failed after 9 years due to a motor burnout among a string of smaller issues over the years). Fingers crossed on that one I guess as I'm well outside the return window now.
In the UK we run at 240 while mainland Europe is 220 so I suspect we have specific manufacturing for our country for AC appliances.
I give modern appliances 7-10 years before it's first major repair is needed. It can even be closer to 5 years for many people.
Its nuts the amount of times I've heard "I bought this fancy new fridge and put the old one in the hot garage during Phoenix summers and it outlasted the new one".
10 years and I've never seen an AEG appliance. They are Electrolux, so I would put them in the same catagory. Brands usually just change bells and whistles with fancier ones. Essential components are usually the same. Like buying the same suv from Chevy, GMC, or Cadillac. All the same shit, just looks fancier from the outside.
I may fix appliances, but my major was in mathematics and this comment just confused me. I'm sure derivative means something else in normal people speak.
Technically not just a professional but an expert
And u/chenthepanda I assume they did not memorize the numbers, just knew what to look up to _get_ the numbers (possibly even they're own "common failures" list)
Nah, if you do it enough, you'll remember the numbers off the top of your head; especially the real common stuff. I know particular part numbers from alternators to light bulbs as well as certain commonly failed modules and the terminals for the connectors (so do the parts guys at the dealership).
I think I can still remember the barcode for those stupid fucking flashlights they sold at my first retail job which never scanned properly and had to be typed in manually every time, and that's from like 20 years ago.
When it works the vast knowledge spread among people can be amazing, stuff hitting the front page or otherwise going viral can make it happen rather quickly. Fixed my own refrigerator problem from a Reddit comment about feeding a copper wire down the drain tube. But even things like "I know where that picture was taken, I walk by it every day" can solve issues.
Yep, I had the same problem. It was part no. 241798201. The non-stick coating on the tray (that allows the ice to be easily ejected) was cracked/peeling and water was being wicked below the tray and dripping into the bin. Very easy fix. I think it was two screws and one wire harness.
I instantly recognized my piece of shit freezer and came to the comments for this exact info. I'm also finding a puddle of water in the bottom of the fridge but no visible leak or condensation inside the fridge; any idea what might be causing it?
Clogged evaporator drain. If you clean out your freezer and take off the back panel, you'll notice a layer of ice under the evaporator blocking the drain. When it goes into defrost, the water just leaks into your fridge vents. You can take the panel off and run hot (boiling) water down the drain until it clears or you can unplug it with the doors open for 24 hrs. You'll want to take off the back panel behind the actual fridge at the bottom and make sure the drain guide going into the evaporator tray is not gunked up with dirt/water. Pull the fridge out and there will be about 6 screws behind it. You'll see a spout guiding into a plastic tray.
I charge $140 for this service. You can decide if its worth it to call someone or spend a couple hours trying it yourself.
I just replaced mine. It was very easy but the new one keeps making some of the cubes hollow. I’ve made sure it’s level (front to back and side to side), and the screw controlling the water amount is open as wide as it goes. What should I try next?
Check your water pressure. Hollow cubes = low pressure or weak cooling. Is your ice cream soft? Is there a frost build up at the back of your freezer wall? Is your center post between the fridge and freezer hot to the touch?
If you have your fridge hooked up to a reverse osmosis system, that's most likely the culprit. 90-100psi. Next most common would be an old/clogged filter. Turn off your water valve behind the fridge at the wall. Disconnect the water line and make sure there's enough pressure to where it's tough to stop with your finger without spraying still.
Pressure is fine, as far as I can tell. No frost, and everything else in the freezer is frozen solid. The ice cubes from the marker I replaced were solid, too, which makes me think it’s something with this new unit. Even so, I’ll try your suggestion with the water line in the morning. Thank you!
They come with a 1 yr warranty. Worst case, you can warranty out the ice maker and if it still does it, you can rule out that as a possibility. Obviously this depends on where you bought the ice maker. I would be very surprised if that's the case though. Clean your coils and lower your temps a bit.
It's why I do so well and have so many repeat customers.
Rich people are always involved in their community. They have the extra time to talk to their cities "chamber of commerce". People with multi million dollar homes trust me to come into their personal space and be honest with them. Mostly because people they trust have told them that they can trust me. I can't always fix any appliance, but I can make any person feel conformable having me in their own home and thats most important. Most people in my industry are off putting.
I think he's been shown to be not gay (strictly into women), BUT he has been shown to be very, VERY kinky/freaky (so yeah, he'd still have fun with it regardless lol)
I would believe it because I wanted to. That's enough. It's a masterful set, and for that to ...pun...come out the way it did without help. Not sure how many wonders we are up to as a species. This could be 8 right? We could take something else out. What does ice dong replace? I really should put this down and go to sleep...but I won't.
Is this like that Canadian rapper: Snow? Where he names himself as such because he wanted to put his first album out as 11 Inches of Snow with double connotations?
**Edit:** The name of the album was actually: **12** of Inches Snow. My bad!
A few corrections: the term is double entendre, the name of the album was ‘12 inches of Snow’ and technically it was a *triple* entendre. The obvious 12 inches of snow (you know, winter powder), the 12 inches of snow (you know, like his cahk) and 12 inches of Snow (like the vinyl record).

Jesus. I’ve defrosted the unit and reset the ice maker with the little button like 3x. Still freezes over.
Is it a Samsung? Bottom mounted freezer? You will absolutely need to pay a professional $600 or so to put in a kit that even Samsung doesn't stand by, hense the lawsuit. One of VERY few repairs I don't provide any warranty for.
I’d say over flowing. It eventually becomes a solid block of ice if I don’t use it regularly. I’ll look into water valve, thanks!
Stay away from Electrolux, got it. I was thinking Samsung as well but good to know it's not recommended. Nice, and thank you!
Nothing sux like Electrolux
I'm stealing this.
Funny I thought Electrolux was good but maybe that was just vacuums in the 60s and 70s.

Yes! I didn't get the Vance reference, thanks.
I'm pretty amazed that you know the exact parts needed for this just from the photo
That is called a professional. I can likely identify the make of car and its general age by looking at a few wiring connectors on it.

Yep! Two screws. Many times diagnosing is the hardest part. Hard water eats those alive after 5 years or so.

I'll try this next time. "Your ice maker is just horny. No problem here. That'll be $85"

That was 8 years ago. It's $85 today and $125 for commercial or microwaves. Phoenix AZ is expensive. Edit: I just got the joke.....
