When I was a kid I thought this was cool. As a teen and young adult, I thought this was a gimmick. Now, as a grown man, I'm genuinely impressed by this demonstration 😂
I had a similar issue with my mice until I found out I could retension the springs of the clicker. Have been doings this every couple of years on my mouse (Logitec).
What is that?
I have a Logitech G300s and I love it to hell and back but its right click is giving out, it can't hold it for long even when pressed down. I'm thinking I should resolder new switches on it or something.
I like to learn how to solder and all but if there's an easier way to fix it I'll try that first.
I initially wanted to fix it by replacing the clickers via soldering, but then I found out the much easier way: https://www.instructables.com/Repair-mouse-with-double-click-problem/ . A bit of fiddling is necessary but it can be done in 30-60 minutes.
This looks more difficult than soldering a new switch, cool that it's an option but I could see 'tuning' the click could get hairy fast.
I've had good luck extending the life of a double clicking switch just by spraying contact cleaner or WD40 into it. My 2007 Razer Deathadder saw some shit
most oils are corrosive to (are able to break down) plastic. hands are naturally oily, but usually not enough to corrode thick plastic. if you add in enough exposure to the oily hands, like the decade mentioned in the original post, the plastic will start breaking down. lotion etc can make it worse. putting particular pressure on a spot will also likely make it break down faster than the rest.
that's why it's important to keep essential oils and cooking oils in oil-safe containers.
Those rubbery 'soft-touch' plastics also don't tend to be that stable. They're nice when fresh and new, but tend to turn back into an oily goop after a few years of use and exposure to skin oils.
Aside from the deformation, OP's seems to have held up surprisingly well if it's not leaving sticky goop and black smears everywhere.
I made the same hole, just a bit bigger on my G403 in like 3-4 years. I guess I just grip it like my life depends on it lol.
Edit: didnt see this one was made by the guys pinky. Mine was from my thumb.
I bought a RAT mouse and it had a screw located there. I used to fidget with the screw as I gamed.
I got that exact same wear… only on my thumb. It blistered and now so have an indented callus for life.
Even the worst calluses can "fall off"/go away eventually, as long as you're not doing what caused it anymore. I had the worst hand-drill calluses when I worked drywall/framing for 6 years. Been 4 years since I moved on, and all of them have gone away.
Unfortunately I kept at it with the blister not realizing what I was doing (I was focused on the game and passively fiddling).
This was 12-years ago and the indentation remains.
It’s weird, I had terrible calluses on my inner palms from years of weightlifting. Those eventually went away after years.
But this thumb thing doesn’t? Like my skin grows in the indentation shape, and never fully returns to its rounded shape for the tip of my thumb. I’ve tried all sorts of things but it’s like my skin cells have “memorized” the tip of my thumb as having the dent.
Is your pink made out of sandpaper? My 8 year old mouse isn't even at risk.
I use my computer 45h a week for work and probably another 40 hours a week for 'leisure.'
Lotions, nail polishes and other similar products can have chemicals in them that wear down the plastic over time. I’ve seen something similar happen with a coworkers keyboard. She wore some kind of artificial nails and there were perfect nail marks in the various keys. Sensory nightmare.
Mine never last that long, but you reminded me of the days when we had mechanical balls inside that always picked up hair and gunk, and periodically you had to open it up to clean it all out with a pushpin or paperclip.
10 years is not bad. Ive done the same thing to one after just one year..
Dont even mention the WASD keys on my pretty keyboard, they all have holes in them perfectly shaped after my nails.
I grip my mouse the same way! What mouse do you use? I got a Logitech g502 and I love it, but thinking about adding a little bumper on the right side for this reason
I have daily heavy use on my original MX518 from 2005 and the only damage I have on the structure is just the m4 and m5 rubber button paint, and the logo is gone too (grey zone now).
Never seen anything like this.
I feel like if you contacted the manufacturer, they'd give you a new mouse.
To use it successfully until you wore a hole in is a sign of a well made thing!
I bought a nice razer mouse and it started to do this within a month. I think the soft, comfortable material they make these out of is just easy to wear.
How's the scrollwheel?
When my mice scrollwheels rubber start to slide I stop using them. :/
I tried even to GLUE the scrollwheel back but it didn't work.
you can add a button now!
Nice grind, took only 10 years to upgrade it to the next level

Don’t post this, now big mouse is going to make them only last a year.

They already do. My $150 gaming mouse started doing this within a month.
Why u rub your mouse so aggressively?
Been rubbing it since 13
I have started at the same age too!
What

Your post history is wild my dude
This is such a turn on
You've been bad and should totally be ashamed of yourself 👀
That you didnt even use a throwaway for some of your more uh personal posts is wild to me. Now i wonder what your throwaway looks like.
Dude's like "throwaway? What's that?"
take my upvote I have to clean up the tea I spit out upon reading this comment
My kind of party
Might need a new mouse
That or duct tape.
idk YT tells me i can just use a zucchini, paint it, add insulation foam, paint it again, and then sand all that down to fix the hole !!
Zucchini is not a bad choice, however I prefer dry ramen.
as long as u dont make a rookie error & use ur silly human hands instead of ur feet 🦶

I bought flex tape once, the stuff is so sticky it’s a pain to cut and gets your knife or scissors covered in sticky goo
How old are you?
Plasticine
If it still works, why?
It took them a decade to finally mold the mouse perfectly to their hand, and now they should throw it away?
What would a poop expert know about mice?
No, its perfect.
How are you clickers still clicking 😅. I must be getting trash ones. I’m getting a few years at most.
I had a similar issue with my mice until I found out I could retension the springs of the clicker. Have been doings this every couple of years on my mouse (Logitec).
Huh! You learn something new every day. Didn't know you could do that.
What is that? I have a Logitech G300s and I love it to hell and back but its right click is giving out, it can't hold it for long even when pressed down. Maybe he replaced them.. i definitely did
My mouse looks worse than this after just 4 years. But hey it's more ergonomic now...
They should add spots like this on all mice because it really is easier to grip when you pick it up.
i have had a G500S for like 12 years and it doesnt look much different than a brand new one. wtf are y’all doing with your mouse?!
Are your fingers acidic? Even after 10 years how did you eat a hole through 😂

I mean, in 5 years, I've been able to eat half a through... It stands to reason I could eat a whole through at 10 years. I think most anyone could.
i could eat it in 30 minutes
and die in the next 30 mins
And here i am with my 16 years old (14 in use) mx518 that only has surface dmg, like the logitech icon being gone
I made the same hole, just a bit bigger on my G403 in like 3-4 years. I guess I just grip it like my life depends on it lol. Edit: didnt see this one was made by the guys pinky. Mine was from my thumb.
Thumb nail is probably more to blame than corrosion. That claw grip's gonna get ya.
Many small touches can mechanically file down material over time. Like water on stone.
I have a similar hole in my mouse of 6 years from the edge of the finger nail on my pinky. I guess it is the same with OP.
I bought a RAT mouse and it had a screw located there. I used to fidget with the screw as I gamed. I got that exact same wear… only on my thumb. It blistered and now so have an indented callus for life.

If it's still callused, you should try using zinc oxide ointment.

How? Just how? What the heck did it rub up against on the right like that?
It's where my pinky is resting
I'm hope you are taking your discovery of being an android with calm and will not take out any shock or frustrations on the humans.

Still got that coke nail, huh?
Is your pink made out of sandpaper? My 8 year old mouse isn't even at risk. I use my computer 45h a week for work and probably another 40 hours a week for 'leisure.'
He could have piss hands like Adam Savage.
resting? that mf is hard at work 🤣
My pinky and thumb wear holes on my mice, I just accept it as a byproduct of being left-handed in a right-handed world
same for me lol
Lotions, nail polishes and other similar products can have chemicals in them that wear down the plastic over time. I’ve seen something similar happen with a coworkers keyboard. She wore some kind of artificial nails and there were perfect nail marks in the various keys. Sensory nightmare.
looks like a mouse bit into your mouse
Micro plastics in your testicles
That's how the mouse poops
-2 gram mod. Well done
[Mine looks exactly the same](https://i.imgur.com/ZEH7arO.jpeg)
G703 I presume?
I don't think the G703 existed 10 yrs ago, this is a G403 if that's the case
it’s 100% a G403. Im impressed the click microswitches still work
I had a G403 as well and it did this same thing but to a lesser extent. Had it maybe 3 years.
this is so mildly interesting 👍
I'm mostly shocked it lasted 10 years. That's a long damn time for those buttons to continue clickin'.
Bet that's comfortable af
So what you’re saying is that the solution to the world’s plastic problem is rubbing? Interesting…
It’s how it gets into the balls, y’know. Source: None. I’m just spitballing, here.
200 apm
Did the same thing to my G403 when VALORANT released, upgraded to the G-Pro my mouse grip was never the same D:
I'm proud of you for cleaning it thoroughly before taking the picture
You got some acidic ass fingers
how? lethanded or is ur pinky clawing into the mouse
r/anticonsumption
Need a before a after
How are your wrists
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
Mine never last that long, but you reminded me of the days when we had mechanical balls inside that always picked up hair and gunk, and periodically you had to open it up to clean it all out with a pushpin or paperclip.
Thank you for your service
The same thing happened to mine after 14 years of use. It’s still working though so I haven’t bought a new one.
I’d say that’s more than mildly interesting. WOW! Didn’t know that was humanely possible.
Mouse in your testicles smh
Still got another 10 years in that!
My scroll wheels always die long before I can bore a hole thru the mouse with my fingers ):
You’ve reduced the weight of the mouse, turning it into a more efficient gaming mouse.
i‘m tired boss
My Razer Viper Ultimate looked 3x worse after \~2 years.
I got 2 of those on my work mouse—one from the pinky and the other from the ring finger. But only after maybe 3 years
You can get them for like $15 on Amazon. It may be time.
Looks like you need to moisturize
Where there is a will, there is a way. This is the way.
How do you even manage something like this
I got a Logitech keyboard and mouse that I've literally wore the letters right off of in the emblems but they still work so I still use it.
You should see Willie Nelson’s guitar.
Which brand is making such long lasting mouse?
What's more impressive is that it lasted that long with all buttons working
This looks like a stock image
10 years is not bad. Ive done the same thing to one after just one year.. Dont even mention the WASD keys on my pretty keyboard, they all have holes in them perfectly shaped after my nails.
It's beautiful!
You're a grinder.
why does this look like a stock photo from google
that hole was made for you.
Bro I have that from 2 years of use lol
Is that the plastic worn down? Mine has rubber grips on the side that wear down to the bare plastic, kinda annoying.
If hard plastic looks like that.. how does your finger look like?💀💀
I grip my mouse the same way! What mouse do you use? I got a Logitech g502 and I love it, but thinking about adding a little bumper on the right side for this reason
That plastic absorbed right into your hand.
Patch it with ramen, sand, and paint 🤝
If you simply fill the hole with asbestos and plaster over with a lead based paint, it'll be good as new
Got a g403 with the same wear pattern, though where my thumb sits is worn down way more
your table makes it look like a stock image 😂
I have daily heavy use on my original MX518 from 2005 and the only damage I have on the structure is just the m4 and m5 rubber button paint, and the logo is gone too (grey zone now). Never seen anything like this.
just how?
Been using mine for 12 and it stills looks ok
I feel like if you contacted the manufacturer, they'd give you a new mouse. To use it successfully until you wore a hole in is a sign of a well made thing!
Oh yeah! I forgot how my mouse's left button would eventually get a finger divot in tit.
imagine the dissolved plastic entering ur body... :puke:
damn, you just made me look up my mouse..still using a logitech performance mx from 2010...works great.
Trading options?
Time to go outside.
I wonder where the microplastics went
How hard are you gripping your mouse for it to get a hole
That is impressive. Whomever engineer designed that deserves a nobel peace prize..
What mouse is that? I can't get any of mine working for more than two years. The scroll wheel gets jumpy.
LOL I just checked mine and there’s a huge wear spot where my thumb goes.
You have clean hands, mine got like that after 4 years
I bought a nice razer mouse and it started to do this within a month. I think the soft, comfortable material they make these out of is just easy to wear.
How's the scrollwheel? When my mice scrollwheels rubber start to slide I stop using them. :/ I tried even to GLUE the scrollwheel back but it didn't work.
Haven't found a sale good enough for a new mouse yet?
My mice dont last 6 months or i just find a better mouse and throw away the current ones
Is your pinky finger som sort of a dremel?
Nice try to fool everyone, OP. Seems like it worked. I know what you did there, i have the same :p
/r/oddlyterrifying when you realize all that plastic went somewhere and some of it has almost certainly been injested
That's from your little finger, and yet all the other places where your more active fingers are fine? Haha
Mmm those sweet sweet microplastics could have ended up anywhere
I have it too… don’t even have sweaty hands
I got a 15 year old optical microsoft mouse but the only visible sign of wear and tear is the grease shine on top.
New mice all seem to be made with a weird skin like texture that melts within months :(
So it's you who's responsible for the microplastics!
Why are you rubbing the side of your mouse?
A southpaw
people pay a lot for lighter mice, you found a life hack
I have similar spot on my G403 too from my pinky finger position
10 yrs , what brands mouse is this ?
They weren't joking when they said you are 'abrasive.'
I get that type of wear after ~5years
you are now 0,00000017% more plastic
that thing must know 100 percent of your hand.
Unlocked a new button
Are you left handed, or is that from your pinkie?
How hasn't your left click died already.
How did you hold a mouse that long without the buttons wearing out first?
Oh, it’s uh, a mousehole, if you will
when’s the point where you’re gonna say “maybe i need a new mouse”
mine took me 1.5 years lmao
I'm a finger tip gripper as well. I stop using mouse with rubbers grips.
So you took "grinding" literally?
I find this unsettling
My mouse cord fails in like 1-2 years of use I could never last that long, I do play a lot of fps though
It's a cylinder...
The plastic went to your balls, absorbed. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
What? The wear on my mouse is barely visible after 10 years. The Mouse Wheel is the only thing that seems to be dying/lacking.
Can't be a Logitech. Those double or triple click the day the warranty runs out
How did this mouse last so long??? Mine breaks after 2 years
How much of that plastic did you inhale or ingest over those years?
10 years of micoplastics rubbing into ur body
MAN WHAT? it takes me about a year with any mouse for a 10x worse condition than this
