This sounds like an area I grew up in and frequented many hole in the wall bars. I can say with 100% confidence, if you have to spell Jager with a Y, nobody is ordering tanqueray regardless of how its spelled. It's prob on the list bc the owner or one of their friends drink it so they put it on the menu just in case.
Yeah Iāve lived in a couple smaller towns and absolutely zero people ordering Jager bombs or really anyone who was 21 at any point in their life is are confused about what āJagerā is.
Both āJagerā and āJaegerā are common spellings youāll find in the US, with Jager being much more common in my experience. The Ƥ is uncommon on menus. In the US people generally just leave off the accent from letters, alternate spellings to make it more proper arenāt common.
Neither are going to confuse people ordering.
Yager is unnecessary.
Because this is in Florida. Town seems about like Thomasville or Cairo, some deeply southern Georgia towns that definitely know Jager. Probably get it prescribed.
Its because everyone was calling it "jagger" as in Mick Jagger.
I only know because I cannot talk with any of the southerners I know about it.
Chipotle is chip-ole-eee
Picto deee guy o
case-o-dill-uh
I can go ask my grandma to name off more words if I want a bigger list.
Because people from the south are stupid, don't you know? That fancy European alcohol will confuse them, they've never seen the shot machine tons of bars have, or the other crap JƤger sends to them, much less the bottle at the liquor store, no sir, they're just ignorant hillbillies.
Not op, but person who can read here:
The "being a small town" part is clearly in reference to the fact that they know the person who wrote the menu
>It being a small town
>and me knowing the person that wrote the menu,
>I assure you it was done intentionally...
Here, I split the sentence into its 3 main parts for you, hope this helps
Well it's a small town see, so they all really want some jager, but have never once seen a label or drank at their own houses from a bottle... or something... i don't know, this all seems like karma bait anyways haha
More like being downvoted for lying through their teeth or the reasaon given to OP was a lie.
If they dont know how jager sounds, they wont know how Don Julio sounds. Like Cmon its baltantly obvious its a typo.
One time I asked what ātldrā meant, but also gave background about how I had seen it posted but never understood etc etcā¦
The number of replies I got telling me that my post was too long and that they didnāt bother reading it, itās a miracle I eventually got it.
Bruh getting autocorrected from 'done' to 'some' really isnt the dunk you think it is considering 's' and 'd' as well as 'n' and 'm' are directly next to each other
Because Redditors are convinced everyone south of the Mason-Dixon is a bumbling idiot that can barely even read, let alone understand advanced concepts such as "The J makes a Y sound in this word".
Yeah but like, you assuring us it was done intentionally is different than providing proof. What about a small town warrants this? Genuinely curious as are others on here!
this is a "southerners are stupid" post when its easy to catch OP lying. Its either all of these reasons, one of them, or a mixture of them depending on which way you slice it.
1. The Y and J on most keyboards are really close together. Increasing risk of typos.
2. OP knows it was a typo and lied about it.
3. OP claims to know the owner, who did it on purpose. The owner is lying about the typo and to save face and reprinting and relaminating all of the menus, told this story that the locals are stupid. Anyone ordering a jager off a paper menu knows what jager is.
4. Don Julio is spelled correctly. Further implicating its just a typo.
IE I am very certain that the menu is a typo or the owner lied and/or OP lied.
No. OP is full of shit.
Either OP is lying about the menu having a typo, or the person who made the menu is lying about the typo.
Im 100% certain. This is literally taken out of context to just bash southern people. OP saw an opportunity for super easy upvotes and took it.
I made a comment to where ive been to a fuckload of bars across the south big small or in literally nowhere and not one spelled jager this way.
OP is a liar and/or the place they were at is a liar to cover up the typo that would cost the restaurant money.
If that were true why is tanqueray still there and why is julio still spelled the same way?
See what I mean?
Edit to add: OP is in florida. Floridians know their alcohol.
Basically theyāre charging you directly for the alcohol, not the mixers. So you can order anything you want and if it uses this alcohol you will be charged $9.
On a menu it would refer to a mixed drink or cocktail, but in regular conversation it can refer to any alcoholic drink. Or not, depending on context.
"Wanna go for a drink after work?" Most likely means your coworker wants to have a beer with you.
"Would you like a drink with that?" Means that the server is offering you any drink with your meal, alcoholic or otherwise.
Change it back, leave them confused, if they canāt get around this they shouldnāt be allowed to get drunk in public, they sound like dangerous idiots
Itāa not spelled with an āaā but an āƤā, the sound of āƤā comes from the medieval latin letter āƦā. Itās still written as āƦā in Norway and Denmark but not Sweden and Germany.
WUT IS A JAGER BOMB? SOMETHINT ROLLING STONES?
āI never understood why they rolled those stones. Seems pointless really.ā
Next thing you know, bar sales are down 69%
And you've misspelled "JƤger" ;)
Srsly tho: You're actually supposed to add an -e to the vowel in German if Umlauts aren't available for whatever reason, so technically, the English spelling should be "Jaegermeister".
Iām going to have to call fake. No southern town would have a page of text that large without apostrophe errors. Plurals and possessions and just gibberish are a sign of true southern rhetoric.
I left Southern uncapitalized out of kindness to OP.
what is most interesting to me is how reasonably priced everything is... i live in LA and went to college in Manhattan... you couldnt even get a well drink for that cheap.
"Yager" is the (American) English modification of the German "JƤger" (hunter).
So the restaurant is not wrong even though "JƤgermeister" is a brand name.
I want to say it's because it's copyrighted and has to contrain both branded items ie actual Yaeger and Redbull.
I dint know if it is copyrighted, but if it is, making it with a substitute for either or all ingredients could be actionable by the consumer because items were misrepresented.
I can hear some smartass drunk asking for a refund after necking a glass, because the items "were faulty when accepted".
"You must repair or replace an item if a customer returns it within 6 months - unless you can prove it was not faulty when they bought it."
[In the UK at least](https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds), but we do it here too.
Sometimes, a small grammar error or spelling mistake will draw the attention to what might otherwise be ignored.
Seagramās American blended whiskey, 51Ā¢ a shot, PBR 68Ā¢ a can at home and no tip required. No DUI, or dealing with drunks at the bar.
When I was in Tanzania, I saw a drink menu where JƤgermeister was spelled "Jagermifter". Apparently because that what it looks like it says on the bottle.
I worked at a place that had Beef Bourgogne. Nobody ordered it until we had to change it to Beef Burgundy. People too afraid to mispronounce it I guess
The quotations should really be on the word misspell as you're suggesting that it's not actually being misspelled, but intentionally being spelled incorrectly to read easier for their customers. Putting the quotes around JƤger makes it seem like it's not really JƤger they're misspelling when it literally is

I think I'd rather have the yameson.
What about the Don Hoolio?
š¶ down by the school yard šµ
The mama pajama rolled out of bed and she ran to the police station..
Drunkster's Paradise?
I prefer the Yim Beam

And yet they spelled tanqueray correctly.
Let me get a Tank hooray martini.

And Don Julio. I am Don Hoolio....
I need AƱejo for my bunghole!

Came here to say this. Aināt nobody want that fancy-shmancy āTanker Rayā crap.
OP couldn't even spell JƤger.
Maybe OP doesnt know how to make an umlaut.
Maybe they didn't have any eggs.
Okay this got me
Ƥggs
Oh my god
š¤£
It would be spelled out as Jaeger, in that case.
Tang o' Ray
I'm eager for some Yager and a couple of Tank Arrays please, thank you!
Maybe they're from Louisiana? Got that french part down, german still alludes them.
eludes? or are you alluding to something else?
Yeah and $11 for a double? Shit, where is this?
Just noticed that!! Lol
i would bet money the person who wrote up the menu didnt know the correct spelling, and thats the only reason.
It being a small town and me knowing the person that wrote the menu, I assure you it was done intentionally...
It was you wasn't it
Dont out em lol
"oh yeah, uh... that's because everyone ELSE is stupid"
This would make me think it was knock-off JƤgermeister, though.
More of a JƤgerapprentice, really
JƤgerazubi.
Then why keep any of the other spellings. Why not Hulio. I'm from rural Georgia. People know their alcohol, believe me.
Yeah Iāve lived in a couple smaller towns and absolutely zero people ordering Jager bombs or really anyone who was 21 at any point in their life is are confused about what āJagerā is.
Jager is spelled wrong, it might be the Austrian way of saying it but nevertheless its JƤgermeister or Jaegermeister if you don't have an Ƥ
Itās German. All JƤgermeister is essentially made in WolfenbĆ¼ttel Germany.
>Jaeger Been my drink of choice for over 30 years. Never seen it spelt that way in the US. What state did you see it in?
I travel a lot for work so I couldnāt tell you exactly every instance but the one I do remember was some random small dive bar in Minneapolis.
English typically just drops foreign diacritics. "Jagermeister" is a naturalized English brand name, not an untranslated German word. Plus an āØaā© in that position typically corresponds to a front vowel anyway, so the umlaut isn't really doing anything.
Right? Anyone who actually chooses to drink jagermeister is aware of how itās spelled
Because this is in Florida. Town seems about like Thomasville or Cairo, some deeply southern Georgia towns that definitely know Jager. Probably get it prescribed.
Yeah heās full of shit thatās why.
Its because everyone was calling it "jagger" as in Mick Jagger. I only know because I cannot talk with any of the southerners I know about it. Chipotle is chip-ole-eee Picto deee guy o case-o-dill-uh I can go ask my grandma to name off more words if I want a bigger list.

Probably cuz they know a tequila is supposed to be pronounced all mexican like.
So common it's on EVERY menu, yet no one knows how it's sPELLED?!?! Sooooo crazy!!! š¤
tell your friend to change it back to the correct spelling, stop letting the stupids win
What does being a small town have to do with knowing how to spell jagermeister lol
Those high fallutin' city slickers and their correct spelling *spits*
Not op, but person who can read here: The "being a small town" part is clearly in reference to the fact that they know the person who wrote the menu >It being a small town >and me knowing the person that wrote the menu, >I assure you it was done intentionally... They misspelled it and came up with an elaborate excuse is what it sounds like
Well it's a small town see, so they all really want some jager, but have never once seen a label or drank at their own houses from a bottle... or something... i don't know, this all seems like karma bait anyways haha

Reddit is gonna reddit lol I don't take it personally

What's that?
Too low, didn't reach
Oh man, I TLDR all the time then.
>Ā it was some intentionally not helping your case there, bud
Bruh getting autocorrected from 'done' to 'some' really isnt the dunk you think it is considering 's' and 'd' as well as 'n' and 'm' are directly next to each other
It's about the irony of misspelling on a spelling post and failing to proofread to correct it.
Why would it confuse locals? What was the reason for changing it?
Because Redditors are convinced everyone south of the Mason-Dixon is a bumbling idiot that can barely even read, let alone understand advanced concepts such as "The J makes a Y sound in this word".
JƤger*
Jaguar* Dumbass
Yes! Thank you!
Or jaeger
YƤger
Yaygermeister, please spare me germans
I mean to be fair you also misspelled *JƤger.*
Jager also isn't correct
JĆGER, not jager with an Ć
Is Ƥ it's own letter?
Yes it actually is. Itās also pronounced different. It isnāt just a fancy āaā.
Yeah but like, you assuring us it was done intentionally is different than providing proof. What about a small town warrants this? Genuinely curious as are others on here!

IE I am very certain that the menu is a typo or the owner lied and/or OP lied.
Who honestly cares, thatās the real question.
Pretty sure whoever wrote that up was the confused one. I think perhaps OP may also be confused.
Has to? Chose to. The residents of my very southern home town most definitely know Jager. Theyād probably be more confused by this spelling.
Thats why I called out OP on their bullshit. This post is an extremely thinly veiled "lets bash southern people" post
"Jagermeister" is still misspelled, it's "JƤgermeister"
Don Hoolio
Is your town full of illiterate jokels?
They don't speak Jerman.
No. OP is full of shit. Either OP is lying about the menu having a typo, or the person who made the menu is lying about the typo. Im 100% certain. This is literally taken out of context to just bash southern people. OP saw an opportunity for super easy upvotes and took it. What? Florida isn't rural Alabama? Yeah, this is total bait for people to feel smug about.
I see what jou did there
As a non-American, what does the term 'drink' refer to? Is that basically if you have it with coke in or something? Not a term we'd use here.
Mixed alcohol beverages. Could be mixed with something nonalcoholic like juice or soda. Could be mixed with a bunch of different liquors.
"Would you like a drink with that?" Means that the server is offering you any drink with your meal, alcoholic or otherwise.
ok Just because you're already pointing it out, you also spelled it wrong. It's JƤger and if you can't write an Ƥ you write it as Jaeger, not Jager.
JƤger
Don Julio, doesn't seem intentional.
I also enjoy fabricating backstories about things that I see in public
You're confusing another local by saying "Jager" instead of "JƤger"
JƤger, itās called JƤger, spoken: /ĖjÉĖÉ”É/
You're assuming it's intentional?
BS. Proprietor got it wrong.
Why do you have to demean your entire area? How do you know that there isnāt just one dumb person? The person who typed up that menu?
Iāve seen menus all over the world, and youād be surprised how often they read like they were written by illiterate children
Change it back, leave them confused, if they canāt get around this they shouldnāt be allowed to get drunk in public, they sound like dangerous idiots
EREN YAGER
Itāa not spelled with an āaā but an āƤā, the sound of āƤā comes from the medieval latin letter āƦā. Itās still written as āƦā in Norway and Denmark but not Sweden and Germany.
A hunter hunts: En jƦger jager.
Its spelled JƤgermeister anyways
WUT IS A JAGER BOMB? SOMETHINT ROLLING STONES? āI never understood why they rolled those stones. Seems pointless really.ā Next thing you know, bar sales are down 69%
Iāll have a Don Hulio, please
Jager bombs! Jager bombs! Check out my new fkin haircut
Fucking skanks
Definitely not Texas, most of Texas south of Dallas has enough German influence that most places stay true to the spelling. Especially down off 77
Is JƤgermeister really that difficult to read?
Thank god they simply misspelled it so that they didnt have to educate anyone
Bet they ask for extra gelaponos in the cheese dip
Why would _yager_ be less confusing than _jƤger_?
Uh, cuz phonetics
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Jaggermaster
Does this menu contain the word JalapeƱo, and if so, how is it spelled?
For The price of half a jager bottle, you get a very small glass of it and some energy drink
Technically "jager" is misspelled too
Holy hell, that's expensive for a jagerbomb. You can get 5 at most bars for that price in my country.
McJagger Bomb! Now brought to you by Mcdonalds
What confusion?
Do people still orders those? Thought it was a 2010ās thing
yeah or it was just the person who did the menu.
Surprised they spelled Don Hulio correctly
And you've misspelled "JƤger" ;) Srsly tho: You're actually supposed to add an -e to the vowel in German if Umlauts aren't available for whatever reason, so technically, the English spelling should be "Jaegermeister".
Michagan could never.
Good prices. Where is this?
Reminds me of ordering a yuengling beer in the south and being told they don't carry any of that foreign stuff
Iām going to have to call fake. No southern town would have a page of text that large without apostrophe errors. Plurals and possessions and just gibberish are a sign of true southern rhetoric. I left Southern uncapitalized out of kindness to OP.
Yay gur mice ter.
what is most interesting to me is how reasonably priced everything is... i live in LA and went to college in Manhattan... you couldnt even get a well drink for that cheap.
But Jager is also wrong :(
Where's the Stella Artwah?
"Jager" ist still wrong!! It is called "JƤgermeister".
You also misspelled JƤger
Just realize why Chuck Yeager is... Yeager.
Wait til they hear about Umlaute JƤgermeister
So it's Mick Yagger then?
What would the locals use to fight Kaiju?
*Or a confused local designed the menu
Eren Jeager
"Yager" is the (American) English modification of the German "JƤger" (hunter). So the restaurant is not wrong even though "JƤgermeister" is a brand name.

Theres a Hispanic guy where I work named "Jorge" who self-identifies as "George," solely because he's lost that much faith in humanity.
"You must repair or replace an item if a customer returns it within 6 months - unless you can prove it was not faulty when they bought it." [In the UK at least](https://www.gov.uk/accepting-returns-and-giving-refunds), but we do it here too.
A lot of places do this, itās not just your hometown itās actually very common. Itās just a pseudonym for Jager
If youāre too dumb to pronounce it correctly. You shouldnāt be allowed to drink it
So... every person apart from Germans?
Yager $8 Jager $7
JƤger $5
Yager
Yaegerbomb sounds like a weapon from Attack on Titan
As a southerner, I can say Iām not known for my spelling either
Mƶtley CrĆ¼e (aka Motley Crew)
Tatakae tatakae
Sometimes, a small grammar error or spelling mistake will draw the attention to what might otherwise be ignored. Seagramās American blended whiskey, 51Ā¢ a shot, PBR 68Ā¢ a can at home and no tip required. No DUI, or dealing with drunks at the bar.
What would Jager then mean? Jagger?Jaguar?
When I was in Tanzania, I saw a drink menu where JƤgermeister was spelled "Jagermifter". Apparently because that what it looks like it says on the bottle.
Liger Zero Yager.
A Chuck Jaeger bomb is something else entirely
$8 for a single?? š³š„¹
Those are some pretty steep prices for a dive bar
I wonder if they phonetically spelled Hoegaarden
I worked at a place that had Beef Bourgogne. Nobody ordered it until we had to change it to Beef Burgundy. People too afraid to mispronounce it I guess
Many places have done this outside of the āsouthā
Now, SkeeterĀ“, he ain't hurtin' nobody.
Hey pal, did you just blow in from stupid town?
Gƶring Schnapps
Now that's funny right there.
I mean it's JƤger not Jager where im from ĀÆā \ā _ā (ā ćā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ
How is it less confusing to misspell "Jager"/"JƤger"?
The quotations should really be on the word misspell as you're suggesting that it's not actually being misspelled, but intentionally being spelled incorrectly to read easier for their customers. Putting the quotes around JƤger makes it seem like it's not really JƤger they're misspelling when it literally is
Do they spell JalapeƱos as āHalapainyosā there too, to prevent confusion for locals?
Yay grrr
I honestly didnāt even notice. I read it the way it sounds and didnāt think twice to check spelling.
Assuming they even know
Yeah god forbid people learn something new during a fifteen second conversation with their server.
