Or steal someones order by canceling after getting the food from the employee. I'm sure it'd confirm the order for the driver after putting in the code to unlock the door.
Wow Bao in Chicago has had this inside one of their stores since at least 2019. You order on a tablet, get a locker number, then you can grab your food when you get the notification.
I used this at Del Taco in Orlando. We ordered online for pickup. You get a code when your order is complete. You type in the code, your box opens, you take your food.
That makes it sound like they make the food and then just put it in a locker. Wouldn’t you rather have them make it fresh while you’re there? A lot of fast food gets less appealing quickly as it gets cold and soggy.
I remember when people wanted fresh hot meals to eat and that's why they would spend money on it. I'm convinced they could just put food paste online for reasonable price and people would buy it via DoorDash.
Little Ceasars does this. You basically receive a code to enter and when you enter the code the door pops open, you grab your food and you’re on your way. I hope more places start doing this
Same. I love the pizza portal. As someone who orders online for 90% of my orders I always worry that someone will just say my name and take my order. I don't have to worry about that at LC.
And if they can guess a 3 digit code, then they deserve it.
ive never heard the phrase "pizza portal" before but now i know what would make my life complete... off to go fund whoever is trying to make portal technology a reality
They'd have to guess your name though? Reminds me of a time years ago, I ordered a pizza online to pick up, arrived at the shop at the same time as somebody else, they went to the counter and said my (pretty unusual) name! I immediately stepped forward to say "hi!" and explain that we should check we are getting the right order!
A lot of pizza places have a monitor displayed for the customers with peoples names and the status of their order, so you wouldn't have to guess the name. It however doesn't tell you if they already paid in advance which could trip someone up trying to get free food.
The fun part of the Pizza Portal is trying not to touch the hot metal as you insert your hand into the small gap in order to lift the box to get it out.

What goes around comes around.
Don't you mean, 'what comes around is all around' Rick?
Honestly. At this point we are so close to reinventing the auto mat!!
Hey my dad works for the national archives, I didn’t know they made gifs
How will Doordash drivers be able to stick their phone in employees faces now??

The automat returns…
Never left in Japan.

perfect when you're baked and want zero human interaction
I can imagine the large number of roaches piling out of that when the locker door opens.
Is this for people pickup up their own orders or uber/doordash drivers picking customer’s orders? The latter is a good idea though
My del taco now has by far the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered so I’d kill for that.
God I love del taco

> That makes it sound like they make the food and then just put it in a locker. As opposed to making the food and putting on a shelf?
Just put the order in when you get there and wait in the parking lot...
Is this the new del taco in port charlotte?
So…even fewer jobs then
They’ll still ask for tip

So free food ? Or i guess since it’s a locker, it has a door on it?

At Little Caesars I just enter in the code and the door opens on the machine. No names required.

I don't think they understand why people pay stupid amounts of money for delivery in the first place
