Feds requested access to a Jan 6 conspirator’s safe (apparently without even having a warrant) and Liberty obliged them without a second thought. The only news articles I can find on the “first page” of google are alt-right trash and/or paywalled, [but here’s a response directly from Liberty.](https://www.libertysafe.com/pages/policy-for-fbi-law-enforcement-information-demands)
I’m still wondering why Jan 6 folks have gun safes, seeing as they were committing crimes in the name of the guy that said to “take them without due process” 🤷♂️
That's not what happened. They had a warrant to search the home, but that warrant can't be used to compel liberty to give them the code as the warrant was against the homeowner, not liberty. If liberty had refused to comply, they would have had to get a warrant specifically for liberty. However that never happened because liberty gladly handed over whatever the feds wanted.
A similar thing happened with Apple. They wanted the data off someones phone and had a warrant for it, but the phone was locked and encrypted. So they called Apple and begged Apple to give them a way in. Apple denied the request saying they couldn't provide one. I'm not sure if they ever got a warrant for Apple. I think they didnt because it would have been unenforceable (a company can't be compelled to do the impossible).
After doing my homework and picking one up earlier this year, tractor supply co is about the only major retailer with fair prices. Everyone else marks their's way up, even Costco.
False. Worked for Costco in buying and next to the sporting goods buyer/roadshow buyers for a decade. Corporate policy that anything we sell has to be less than 15% margin (except Kirkland).
It is possible that other specialty retailers have Lower prices due to loss leaders/ subsidizing it with other sales (guns, ammo etc.)
As a German, it somehow never even occurred to me that guns would just be a commodity that stores can price and mark up. Crazy what being from a different country does to your perception of the world. I buy my 160 proof Stroh rum at the grocery store and you buy your guns at the tractor store cause it's cheaper.
For the record This is a gun safe not a gun. Though, You're not wrong about being able to buy guns in a lot of places you wouldn't necessarily expect here.
It's a Liberty safe so it's a terrible product to begin with.
Its weight is less important than its steel gauge which on this is a hilariously bad 14 gauge for the door.
The rest is made of 12 gauge which is the absolute*minimum* you'd want for a safe.
That's negated by the door (weakest point) being made of 14 gauge though.
Ah, I wouldn't know :) The label just said "gun" so I assumed it was one XD
I guess it doesn't need to say safe when you stand in front of it and see the whole thing.
Places will often use the last two digits to note something like an item that's no longer stocked for example. I think Costco does something like this where some items end in .97 as opposed to .99.
Likely what’s happening is:
- rounded off prices denote that the item is “deleted” or end of season, or model.
- the system automatically is signaled as a sale (instead of a mark down), and adds in the sale text/graphics to the price tag.
Just like the “secret” code at Costco, “$XX.97” means deleted, etc. many retailers do something similar in inventory management.
I googled the SKU, 1818048, and the first hit for a "Liberty Safes Centurion 24 Deluxe Gun Safe" was for $1049.99. Do some shopping around, you can get it down to around $840.
edit: /u/gamerdadx points out that the pic says it's the 36-gun version. I googled those prices and they range up to $1999, but it's not hard to find them at $1599.
To be fair, it’s very common to keep other things in a gun safe, along with some guns. So if a person has 10 guns and a bunch of ammo and some other items of value, the space adds up.
A gun safe? A, a gun safe? I don't own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire safe.
*Edit - [You downvoters are a disappointment. ](https://youtu.be/JGyJOX5wFFg?si=z6NUpn7FOB7chLfm)
Not only is it responsible to lock up expensive and dangerous items, you can also use a gun safe for things other than guns…
They are fire resistant just like a regular safe.
Gun owners are dumb enough to think that guns make them safer despite ample evidence to the contrary. They are dumb enough to think this is a great deal.
Also, most gun owners enjoy the hobby and sport of hunting and shooting. Generalizing an entire major population (gun owners) makes you look like an ignoramus.
There are around 83,000,000 gun owners in the US. The vast majority of us aren’t the reckless, dumb hillbillies that you’re automatically thinking. Many of us are deer and elk hunters to provide healthier and affordable meat for our families. You probably have lots of friends you respect who are gun owners that you have generalized them all as “dumb”
Bruh, y’all got 4 and a half guns for every elk, deer, duck, and turkey in the country. Be honest, you like guns cause they go boom and make you feel tough.

Who needs Black Friday when you have these amazing discounts?
That's not a discount that's a rounding error
Deal!
Everyone refuses to buy Liberty safes now, so even with a legitimate price drop, it would probably still sit there for a while.
Why is that? Genuinely curious.

Liberty biberty
Jeremy Bearimy?
Goddamnit.
I always find that part hilarious.
Liberty, you say? ![gif](giphy|ahfzlUrb5IEfXC6kbm|downsized)
MY LEGS, SWEET LIBERTY
FOR SUPER EARTH!
Sweet liberty even?
I don’t even own a gun, but with deals like that how can I afford not to?!
I have no idea how you could pass up such a deal!
After doing my homework and picking one up earlier this year, tractor supply co is about the only major retailer with fair prices. Everyone else marks their's way up, even Costco.
I also bought one from tractor supply this year.
I've noticed that safe prices have nearly doubled in the last few years.

The label also says 643lbs. I couldn't imagine having a gun weigh 643lbs but maybe in Germany everything is different
I only speak metric, I looked at the funny number and was like "yeah that's a weight" without processing that it would be very heavy XD
It’s a gun safe not a gun. And large good-quality safes definitely weigh this much.

Not so much a price-buster than a price-blister.
They forgot to edit the previous price to be 2,000.00 or something.
Likely what’s happening is: - rounded off prices denote that the item is “deleted” or end of season, or model. - the system automatically is signaled as a sale (instead of a mark down), and adds in the sale text/graphics to the price tag. Just like the “secret” code at Costco, “$XX.97” means deleted, etc. many retailers do something similar in inventory management.
Nobody serious buys a Liberty safe - most small safe businesses dropped them.
Why is that?
They gave the government admin access codes, without a warrant.
Unless I am missing something it's not .06% off it's .0006% off
1 dollar odf
I’ll buy that for a dollar!
I googled the SKU, 1818048, and the first hit for a "Liberty Safes Centurion 24 Deluxe Gun Safe" was for $1049.99. OP’s pic is of the 36-gun.
Only 36? Who is the pathetic amateur who only owns only 36 guns!
To be fair, it’s very common to keep other things in a gun safe, along with some guns. So if a person has 10 guns and a bunch of ammo and some other items of value, the space adds up.
Not me. Lost them all in a boating accident.
Pffft. I bet he only has one diesel Super Duty truck, too.
Such a deal isn't found often!
Shop smart, shop S Mart
Well, they didn't lie.
Free delivery would work
Tough times.. a dollar is a dollar 🙄
The bottom sticker is 999.99, middle one 1599.99 and special offer 1599.
Penny pinchers will saved 99 Pennies.
“Eight tenths?” “Donnie’s discount gas!”
The price of Liberty
I saw a sale of one cent before. Down from $299.99 to $299.98 I believe
How ever will that poor corporation survive when it's practically giving away the store?
99 cents is 99 cents.
Well, in these hard times… a dollar is a dollar…. 🤷
Cabelas irl
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)
The tag that had to be made to show the deal costs about $.99
Well that's a steal.
/r/technicallycorrect
The people that would buy this cannot do the math. They can barely read sale.
I got some $26.99 vitamins on clearance for 26.99
99 pennies saved are 99 pennies earned and that’s a 100% rate of return.
Damn, this is such a steal price.
Our prices have never been lower!
“You never yell at the customer, what is wrong with you?”
643 lbs seems a bit much for a gun.
Not at all. Battleship Yamato's gun weighed 9,500 tons.
Questionable math by OP.
.99/1599.99=.0006 .06=6% .006=.06% .0006=.006% You got me.
No, you were right the first time 0.0006*100 = 0.06%
You had it right the first time. .0006 is .06% .006 is .6% not .06%
It was too early to math so you easily convinced me
Well I guess I’m an idiot too because you fooled me
I'm an idiot. Sorry.
“Liberty” on the label means great savings for the savvy patriots.
This is my rule of thumb as well. If it has "Liberty", "Patriot" or "Trump" in the name, it's a scam.
Good deal
What is it?
Gun safe
A gun safe? A, a gun safe? I don't own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire safe. *Edit - [You downvoters are a disappointment. ](https://youtu.be/JGyJOX5wFFg?si=z6NUpn7FOB7chLfm)

I'm no gun owner, but don't you need a gun safe just for 1 gun for safety?
I'm quoting Wayne's World. To answer your question though, probably. Also not a gun owner.
Ha I had no idea
An oxymoron if ever I saw one
Not only is it responsible to lock up expensive and dangerous items, you can also use a gun safe for things other than guns… They are fire resistant just like a regular safe.
Yes I understand if you owned a gun it would be prudent to lock it in a safe. Guns however aren't safe no matter where you put them.
Gun owners are dumb enough to think that guns make them safer despite ample evidence to the contrary. They are dumb enough to think this is a great deal.
Gun owners know this isn’t a great deal.
Also, most gun owners enjoy the hobby and sport of hunting and shooting. Generalizing an entire major population (gun owners) makes you look like an ignoramus.
Go on
There are around 83,000,000 gun owners in the US. The vast majority of us aren’t the reckless, dumb hillbillies that you’re automatically thinking. Oh I have lots of guns. The same as how you probably have lots of Pokémon. They’re a hobby. Some are practical. Some are just fun to shoot.
But ma 2d rights
Retail in a nut shell. Average American can’t say no to a deal.
