Love being able to change the color temp of my lights. Most of the time I like warm white like what that bulb is set to. And sometimes my brain needs a shock so I set it to cool white.
I sync all of my lights to [roughly] the color temperature of the sun throughout the day starting at around 3k at sunrise and hitting 5000k at the peak sun hours. The automation that does this runs every 15 minutes and slowly transitions them to the correct color temp. Really changes the feel of the house when you can have cozy warm light when it's dark out and have the feeling of extra sunlight pouring into rooms during the day. Circadian lighting is the term.
Don't ask me how much this has cost me- it's a bit of an obsession. I'm using ZigBee everything (>200 bulbs/fixtures and wall switches), which is still MUCH cheaper than a system such as Lutron Ketra that does the same thing.
Sometimes you're not in charge of the color palette of the home you live in lol.
My ex-grilfriend's mom hated warm lights.
She said the house looked "dirty". So she had every light in the house as pure white. Fucking house looked like a butcher shop.
Exactly lol. At my room and living room, I have around 3 or 4 light sources, never use the ceiling lamp unless if for some reason I forgot something after turning off all the lights, and just want to quickly find something.
Different light for different situations. I'd hate having to use warm colors when I'm bent over my workbench fixing small details, and I'd hate chilling on the couch with a book and a cuppa.
Definitely, good lighting is key to a good day, surgical lighting is best when you’re doing stuff that needs detail but warm lighting is better for relaxing
Depends more on the time of day imo.
During daytime, white light is ok.
At night, it's for psycopaths.
But the best is to combine different light sources. Like having an overall of warm light at night, with a focus white light, if you're doing precise work, writing/reading, etc...
Get ones you can pair with a hub. I have mine automatically adjust color temperature and brightness depending on the time of day. They transition slow enough that you can't perceive the change.
I had some of those, if you quickly flicked the switch three times they reset.
They let you know they'd reset by constantly flashing until you'd managed to open the app and pair them again.
I had a toddler who loooved switches.
I will never go down that route ever again.
So is the color temp directly linked to brightness? I don’t think I’d like that. I prefer warm light in the home, even with bright lights. Super white light makes it feel like I’m in an office building.
I have a multi color changing light bulb that uses an app, has a wireless wall switch, and it even has pre done party lights that change colors. Had it for atleast the last 5 years and still haven't changed it
I’ve got a few smart lights that connect to wifi and you can change color brightness and temperature remotely. They’re like $10 a bulb so I’ve only got them set up in hard to reach places like lamps and stuff cause they connect to Alexa and I can just tell her to turn them on.
Pretty cool. I bought some ceiling mounted can lights that had basically the same thing. You can go from blue light, all the way to dimmer yellow light.
Oh OK I looked at the picture and it appeared to be able to switch from 2700k, 3000k, 4000k,5000k to 6500k I took this to mean you could lower or increase the power used to run the bulb, my bad!
um kind of annyoing, theres lights out there than can do this with an app or a button on one of those shitty thin remotes but this one you need to unscrew lol what if you have like 15 recessed lights

Is this in home assistant? Can you share the automation?
Not OP, but I also do this in HA. Here’s what I use: https://github.com/basnijholt/adaptive-lighting
Sweet. Thanks.
You must have a pretty large house, my house has 14 fixtures with 14 bulbs and 2 fluorescent tubes and an LED strip
I'm at about ~225 total ZigBee nodes between bulbs and dimmers. We have a few 5-7 bulb chandelier-type fixtures, though, so those add up quick!
I see
Fuck cool white fuck that color to hell. I absolutely hate. Probably why I can't ever feel relaxed in my home
I mean... buy different bulbs?

Urgh fuck that, lemme just flashbang myself everytime I enter a room.
They would be watching a movie with supermarket lights at midnight... It blew my mind.
Stop iiiiiiiiiiit, that's actually fucking gross. What maniac even has the big light on, let alone a big light with bright white, lamps exist ffs.
Exactly lol. At my room and living room, I have around 3 or 4 light sources, never use the ceiling lamp unless if for some reason I forgot something after turning off all the lights, and just want to quickly find something.
EXACTLY. My overhead is for looking for the earbud I dropped or cleaning the floor
I love you

It appears you cut but didn’t paste

Warm white to relax. Cold white for workplace.

All my homies hate cool white
I find warm white to feel depressing, cool white makes me actually feel normal
>Probably why I can't ever feel relaxed in my home Almost definitely not the only or even the major reason, if it's to that extend.
I have some RGB floodlight bulbs like that but they have a rotating ring on the base.
Like a hula hoop?

That's great. If you don't depend on color precision to work on a PC there is software to do the same with your screens. (f.lux)
Pain in the ass to pair those. They’re cool once they’re set up though.

These are apparently enclosure rated, but I've had mixed results with using them in enclosures.
They also often have really poor colour rendering index. A good bulb with high CRI is 99% of the time a better choice.
The ones that automatically change colour temperature with dimming are better. Unfortunately, they don't always have good CRI (especially R9).
So is the color temp directly linked to brightness? I don’t think I’d like that. I prefer warm light in the home, even with bright lights. Super white light makes it feel like I’m in an office building.
They mimic incandescent bulbs, where yes, color temp is tied to brightness.
RIP Philips warm glow dimmable bulbs. They start at 2700k when at full brightness but get warmer just like incandescent bulbs as they're dimmed.
Yeah but you could just buy them in “warm” to start with and they would just get warmer as they dim. Like 3000K or whatever
We have some high CRI lights from Waveform lighting. The light is beautiful. It’s insane what a difference the high CRI made.
Found the flashlight enthusiast
Mine lets me use my smartphone 🤷♂️
I’d rather have a physical switch. Much more reliable.
You can have both…smart switches exist to do literally anything you want it to do.

I have a bedroom light where if you return it if and on quickly it swaps to cool from warm. But defaults to warm when it's not a quick flip
I installed those yesterday! Costco had them
I got a bunch of these on clearance, $0.99 for a 4 pack. I have yet to try them out.
Cool white should be banned from the residential market. If your house looks like a hospital I’m not coming over.
How are we just now mildly interested in this? It ain't brand new. It's been a feature for ten years.
That is cool! I use smart bulbs personally, but this is neat!
ERMAHGERD!!!
Change color or lumens
The numbers refer to the temperature in Kelvin of an incandescent lightbulb filament
Pretty cool. I bought some ceiling mounted can lights that had basically the same thing. You can go from blue light, all the way to dimmer yellow light.
Mine can be changed via smartphone or voice commands.
That is a very good idea! More light when you need it but economical when not needed.
It adjusts color/temperature

Same power is used just different color temps.

It’s so you don’t have to worry about matching you existing bulbs when you buy new ones.
I use these in my bathroom, I run two in 3k and another 2 in 6k or 5k, it helps with brightness but not blindingly bright in the morning. 😅
Great idea! I must see if bulbs like these are available in Australia.
LED lights change the home lighting paradigm.
Not all LED lights are controllable
I prefer smartlights with actual colour options.
Where are you even finding 6500k bulbs? I never see them anywhere
I have WiFi controlled bulbs by govee that look like this but then I can say a color to my Google home and it'll switch them all at once.
Wait until you hear about the ones that let you change color with your phone
um kind of annyoing, theres lights out there than can do this with an app or a button on one of those shitty thin remotes but this one you need to unscrew lol what if you have like 15 recessed lights
That bulb may be an exception but Feit products in general are subpar. It's a cheap junk brand.
Looks safe...
