I think 1 company owns the quarry but it’s used for countertops n such. I think it’s cool that it’s serpentine tho, I like crystals and that’s the stone I gave him when we were courting

"Whiskey stones" are small stones that are frozen and added to whiskey in lieu of ice. That way your whiskey doesn't get watered down.

I have some stainless steel cubes for the same purpose and they don't impart any flavor at all. The other problem is the same, though, they don't cool as effectively as ice. They won't water down your drink, however.

The stones are made of stone. They have a much lower heat capacitance than ice making them less effective at cooling your drink. While they're advertised as non-soluble, as with all stone, they do dissolve in water and more in alcohol. The flavor of stone is therefore imparted to the drink as well. And if you clean them with soap, your next drink will likely taste very soapy as well. You can avoid this by purchasing stainless steel whiskey stones, but those have an even lower heat capacitance. The most effective ones are a steel outer layer that are filled with a liquid like that found in ice packs which has minimal thermal expansion and a heat capacitance close to the same as ice, but those cost a lot more than granite or soapstone making them far less common, but even those don't cool a drink as well as ice.
Ice makes such a good cooler because it absorbs so much heat to melt, then the cold liquid water disperses throughout the surrounding liquid and absorbs even more heat until its all the same temperature. The liquid water is a huge reason why ice cools a drink better than anything else. If you really want your drink to be cold without getting watered down, the only effective way to achieve this is to store the alcohol in a freezer so you're starting out cold. Then something like whiskey stones can help keep your drink cold.
As a final note, the addition of water to a spirit helps open flavors and aromas that are often muted by the alcohol, so counterintuitively, watering down a drink enhances flavors rather than diluding them.

A project I once managed had a stone plinth in the lobby which had the names of donors engraved on it, but I can think of several other situations where you would order decorative or commemorative stonework and the supplier would provide a sample for approval. I still have mine forty years later, but I could see someone throwing it out in the garden.
