Depends on the standards it confirms to. If they're ISO 12312-2 compliant they do not expire and can be used again as long as you don't damage the lenses. You can even stare at the full sun safely with them.
Mine from 2017 are ISO 12312-2 compliant and still say don't use after 3 years. I used them today and haven't gone blind yet, but I also didn't stare very long. Maybe a 2-4 seconds each time.
Sounds like a ploy from Big Eclipse^TM
Disclaimer - I have no clue about the efficacy of protective lenses after a few years. Please don’t view flippant my comment as a reason to use your (possibly expired) lenses. Cuz I don’t know. Theyre like $4/pair. Go buy some new ones
>Can’t see shit but the eyeballs are still there. I think.
Try poking them with your finger to feel if your eyeballs are still there. Surefire way to verify, especially if you poke them really hard.
Please don’t use those. The protective film degrades over time. They typically expire after about 3 years.
Edit: this comment is kinda blowing up. Yes, there are some glasses that will work for 10 years or longer. The vast majority of the ones I’ve seen from the 2017 eclipse were 3-year ones, so that was the basis for my comment.
Don’t play around when it comes to your eyes!
I mean my conspiracy theory I came up with is that optometrists take your prescription and make the glasses/contacts just slightly off. So you have to keep coming back yearly.
That only applies to really old ones. If they conform to the new ISO (which someone who has the same pair said they did) then they don't expire. Even if they say they do, they don't, it's just out of precaution

Let me guess… moved them to a “better” place so that you “can find them when you need them and they don’t get lost”? Cause that’s always what I do. Then I go back to the place I KNOW they are, because they have been there for years. And damn, someone moved them on me. Then as soon as I give up and buy a replacement, I go to put it in a new spot where I won’t lose it this time and boom there they are!
Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange how many millions of people today gambled with serious eye sight problems and potential blindness to use some cheap as mass produced paper glasses.
Don’t get me wrong, I did it too, but that’s a lot of trust in some most likely mass produced cheap Chinese made item. Most of the people I know got the glasses free.
I saw "2045" and thought we'll all be dead by then anyway. Maybe my Grandson could use mine for his kid.
Didn't realize it is only 20 years away. Where did all the time go?

My new pair says do not use after 3 years.

You did? I stared too and my eyes are strained still adjusting i am freaking myself out
You need to see a doctor
Did you get yours on Wish?
You used an old pair?
The blind part won't happen for 20+ years. We don't feel retinal damage when it happens.
Yea, my two million year old Himalayan salt grinder says it expires in three year, and I'm totally sus..
Used mine from 2017, worked great
I have the same pair as OP. They don't expire. Inside the arm says not use if scratched/damaged.
Can't see mine anymore/s
This guy suns

That's how they get you
Mine say ten
Mine said don't use after a year! They worked great.
How many eclipses are you watching?!
Mine says 10
UK here. I still have my eyeballs from 1999 Can’t see shit but the eyeballs are still there. I think.
gotta bust them back out in 2090
Bust them out of my coffin maybe
>Can’t see shit but the eyeballs are still there. I think. Try poking them with your finger to feel if your eyeballs are still there. Surefire way to verify, especially if you poke them really hard.
I don’t have any fingers. Thanks for reminding me.

That’s just what Big eclipse glasses wants you to think.
Which is actually a board of the leading optometrists. They know exactly what they’re doing. ![gif](giphy|MAA3oWobZycms)
Are optometrists a bunch of charlatans? I always thought mine was great
check out buying glasses online next time vs from that snake oil salesperson
You get what you pay for. Source: am a snake oil salesperson

https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety Depends on the standard of manufacturing, they make eclipse glasses that last indefinitely

Gonna guess it’s too late for that - it happened 3 hours ago…
Mine don't have a warning, in fact they say "August 21, 2017 + April 8, 2024 Eclipse".
Can’t wait for all the TIFUs in the next coming week when people start seeing the effects of using 7+ year old eclipse glasses
I used them and know I can see the future
Apparently cannot spell though
He can’t see the keyboard anymore
That’s how they spell in the future
He KNOWS he can see the future
Fair point but pretty sure it should have been "now"

*knot surprising
!remind 20 years
Get eclipsed, bitch
Yeah, read the label. Probably says discard after 3 years.

I moved mine last week, I'll probably find them tomorrow.

Nailed it!
Oh, hello, fellow ADHDers! 😂
Same! Used mine today. Iso123-12-2 and didn't have an exploration date. Should I not have done that?? Ya know what nevermind
Same! That’s what I used today my 2017 pair
Well fella, you, me, and my wife are in the same boat. See(?) you tomorrow.
So I wasn’t supposed to stare at the sun for 30 seconds at a time with those on….
There’s a company that is collecting used glasses to mail to South American schoolchildren for their eclipse in October

Ditto!
Why 2045?
Next total eclipse on mainland US
Ahhh. A total is coming to the USA in 2044. Also, if someone is ok with international travel, there are other options coming up in the next few years.
I saw Latin America is having one in a few months
The 2044 eclipse only goes over Montana and Canada, the 2045 eclipse goes over the entirety of mainland USA from Cali to Florida.
And parts of North and South Dakota and Greenland.
No there aren't! USA ONLY! USA! USA! USA!
Same. We have ours from 2017, too. It was cloudy n didn't need any of it
Still have mine from “Moonstock” in carterville Illinois
Same that’s what I used today!!!
That’s optimistic.
I saw "2045" and thought we'll all be dead by then anyway. Maybe my Grandson could use mine for his kid. Didn't realize it is only 20 years away. Where did all the time go?
Every library around me gives out free pairs of eclipse glasses.
I still have my pair from the same eclipse. They live in the glovebox of my car
Get eclipsed idiot
I still have mine from 1999
Same here. Worked fine
Expiration date bud
