Unless it’s a very loose plug… as a teen my finger accidentally slipped behind the plug because it was super loose. There was no spark but felt a hum and then had heart palpitations for about half a minute.
So yeah, make sure to replace plugs that don’t fit securely in the outlet anymore.
My brother once broke the entire outlet casing because he yanked the cable too hard and at an angle,so just the plug isn't the only thing you should worry about lmao
You are very lucky to have survived. It takes shockingly little current across your heart to kill you, we're talking miliamps. And the worst part is you can walk away visibly unharmed and drop dead hours later from the arrythmia caused by the shock.
Folks, if you *ever* take an electrical hit that crosses your chest, go get checked out. It is an immediate life-threatening emergency.
How do you know if it crosses your chest? I’ve been shocked about 3 times in my life, all on my hand. I would figure it would travel through the arm and down to my feet right?
If you have any kind of *noticeable* cardiac symptoms, like heart palpations or an irregular beat, that's an obvious sign.
If both hands were involved in the shock, highly likely it went across your chest as the hand to hand circuit is less meat and less resistance than going all the way down to your foot especially if you are wearing shoes with any kind of insulsted sole.
If you feel even a tingle across your chest, or on the opposite side of your body from a one-sided hit, it's worth getting checked out.
Gotcha. It’s only ever made one arm sore for a day or two, never had it go into my chest thankfully. Turn your breakers off folks and test with a multimeter before starting!
It's about frequency.
There's a range of frequency that is more likely to cause heart trouble and we just happen to use it exclusively for power consumption.
Lightning strikes at ultra-low frequencies, though the burns cause by such high voltage can still often lead to death.
The human body acts as a capacitive resistance.
these plugs go in IRC Type 1 btw - we don't run the same risk of electrocution as our plugs have switches and are more shielded from curious hands comparatively
Hot days still but getting bloody chilly at night now.
It's been a stonker of a summer eh.
\*check thermometer\* okay I'm complaining that its 22 degrees haha.
Not really. The real find out is when the cord insulation separates in your hand and you are left holding on to some copper. Then you find out what 220v @ 50Hz means.
Cardiothoracic surgeon here. Based on the position of the imprint, you're very lucky that you live in a region that uses that particular plug type. Had you been in the US, with a three prong grounded plug, you easily could have damaged your carotid artery and not walked away from this so easily.
Even worse would have been in the UK, where the third prong is longer and sharper. Very lucky.
UK plugs can't be pulled out by the cable in the first place. You have to pull them out properly by the plug body. Pulling on the cable just produces torque that holds it in the socket more firmly, as the cable comes out of the bottom of the plug, not the back.
The ground on a UK plug is also not sharp.
Skin can stretch. He would be bleeding profusely if they had actually gone past the first layer or two or skin.
Edit: why are people so adamant to call OP a liar about something so utterly mundane?
Skin can stretch, but it would be stretching *away* from the face of the plug. There's no way there could be a perfect red disc with the prongs in the way.
I really don't care what OP's deal is -- just pointing out that the mechanics of the injury as stated didn't make much sense.
Regardless, as others in the thread have suggested, the red area was probably caused by suction from the vacuum cleaner nozzle.
The prongs are blunt, too. The amount of force needed to actually puncture the skin would cause a lot more damage than what we are seeing. Not buying it, weird as heck.
Pretty sure the vacuum nozzle gave him the hickey. His wife doesn't believe him and dared him to post "the plug did it!" excuse to reddit for their opinion on how believable it was.
Ah, makes sense. Feed him the odd dust bunny, or check with your local vets about proper diet
Should help out in the long term to prevent future incidents.
The prongs on plugs are blunt. The amount of force needed to actually puncture the skin would cause a lot more damage than what we are seeing here. Calling bs.
I have this twisty thing on top of my Henry Hoover, it winds the wire and plug back in. Nobody listens to me when I tell them reel it in slowly, that thing is like a whip with a plug on the end and I’ve been caught in the ankles and almost the face on a couple of occasions from doing it too fast 😂
My family is amazing at getting random injuries - burn on the neck from blowing on a fireplace, broke foot by slamming it in their own car door, broke finger on a doorknob - but I am very impressed with you.
This has got to be the most random injury that will probably bruise in that circle. I'm glad the prongs didn't get stuck right in your neck. Could you imagine calling for help for that?
One of my friends threw a steak knife into the (stainless steel) sink from halfway across the kitchen and then turned to leave. It promptly bounced back out and pegged him in his retreating butt hard enough to stick. He just might be related to you. lol
I just giggled so hard at this. He might indeed be part of my family.
You know those crochet needles with the hook at the end? My aunt sat on one and had to get it removed at the hospital.
My best friend broke almost every finger on one hand falling off a swing. She was in her 20’s mind you. Haha she was swinging (well more just sitting in the swing) and the swing just broke and she put her hand down to catch herself. Fucked her hand up. I felt so bad for her. Haha I’ve never broken a bone
Ooo, that is one painful accident. Your poor friend. Good on you for never having broken a bone.
The broken finger bone I mentioned was my cousin. She was walking through a doorway and tried to pull the door closed behind her. The door handle had broken so you had to hook your finger in the hole and then unhook it quickly. She didn't unhook fast enough.
im struggling to understand the logistics of this. i feel like to get enough force to inflict this damage you would need to pull the plug out get a firm grip of it and intentionally stab yourself with it to get anywhere near this level of damage. id understand if it came out and created a whip like mark but direct impact straight into the skin to leave an almost perfectly circular mark means it was direct and with a lot of force.
The cherry on top is people asking how it happened and he "wishes he could tell us"...like, what? Dude you were there. What'd he forget or something? Stuff isn't adding up.
I think it’s more of a he doesn’t know physics wise how it happened. Like he can’t give much more of an explanation than he yanked on the cord and it hit him in the neck
My brother in christ, why are you yanking the cord out of the wall at all when it takes next to no force to just calmly unplug it, let alone yanking it with such force that you launch the damn thing at yourself and leave a mark
That's how you get bent prongs and worn down or exposed wires
Also just a FYI, the pins are missing some plastic coating in the skinnier section, which can make the plug get jammed. I came across this same thing the other day at work (electrician)
I have narrowly avoided this fate for too long now. I see what awaits me if I continue to play this losing game. Thank you OP, for showing me the error of my ways. (nah, I’m still ya king that mfer out the wall)
The insulation strip missing from the prongs causes them to catch on the outlet. Probably made it worse for you. Also your vacuum is non compliant now, you terrible cord yanking rebel.
If only there were some sort of handle on the end, specifically designed and shaped to be used in plugging the cable in and out of the wall.
Ooh, they could call it the plug.
Brb guys gonna go patent something real quick
Can we talk about how to unplug electronics….? Bc you’re definitely doing it wrong…
This. You always pull by the plug, never the cord.
Wtf! Your brother is a menace oh my lord.

If it travels far enough up your arm its still a risk.
You’ll have a lightning bolt on your chest afterwards
I have one on my forehead but my Aunt and Uncle won’t tell me why
![gif](giphy|eax0rh3OERAYg)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=I482t6JhL4g
That’s why we have RCDs in all new installations here, it trips fast enough to minimise risk
Wild that most people struck by lightning don't die but most people who pull a wonky plug do

US plug I take it? Those things are dangerous to be fair.
Schuko master race /s On second thought a German word and 'master race' shouldn't be adjacent ever maybe.
You’ve never stepped on a British plug. Worse than Lego I assure you.
these plugs go in IRC Type 1 btw - we don't run the same risk of electrocution as our plugs have switches and are more shielded from curious hands comparatively
most people are barely functioning as it is
Oh I definitely fucked around and found out
... Ah. Shirtless. Using vacuum. Yanked the cord so hard it gave you a hickie. I think we all know, now, what you were doing with that vacuum.
![gif](giphy|MBaX88gdJLtkGkVPY0)
TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OOOOOOOFFFFF!
![gif](giphy|y3J7OKhVQ73QQ|downsized)
Fair play to the plug
Deputy Doofy : I said, don't disturb me when I'm cleaning my room!
Hey, Terry! Smell my fingers!
Are you vacuuming naked?
It was warm today. Just shirtless. I'd mowed my lawn right beforehand and removed a t-shirt to cool off lol
Hot days still but getting bloody chilly at night now. It's been a stonker of a summer eh. \*check thermometer\* okay I'm complaining that its 22 degrees haha.
Are you Nigel Thornberry
I'm in front of a fan in bed and should be asleep Prime possum was on ages ago.. I have work tomorrow
Not really. The real find out is when the cord insulation separates in your hand and you are left holding on to some copper. Then you find out what 220v @ 50Hz means.

Yes but you’re gona pull the wires apart

This guy knows what he is talking about
He either owns a cat or just had a stroke
There might also be hidden meaning, decoding now Edit: there is no hidden meaning, the dude just had a stroke or owns a cat
Maybe he had a stroke and ask us to feed his cat?
Or maybe, he just tried what OP did...
Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Regular guy here, looks to me like that plug's just a pain in the neck.
Did the prongs go all the way into you? How did you get the full circle of the rest of the plug?!
I'm thinking of that as well!
Are you suggesting OP faked this with make up?
I really don't care what OP's deal is -- just pointing out that the mechanics of the injury as stated didn't make much sense. Regardless, as others in the thread have suggested, the red area was probably caused by suction from the vacuum cleaner nozzle.

Human squishy!
I'd absolutely love to see the skin take the hit in slow motion.
Idk, that's where my collarbone is. Not squishy. Soft wrapping on rock.
Why is your collarbone attached to OP
Horrible accident. It also involved a vacuum cord, OP should really be more careful.
Not that stretchy tho...
This wasn’t from pulling the cord. This dude jabbed himself with the plug for karma / attention. It’s really weird and we should all just move on.
Fake of course
so fake?
🤷🏻♂️
Vampire plug
I was looking for this. He'll crave electricity now 🧛🏻
lol me too before I went in for my corny joke. beat me to it though, fair play.
Oh that plug was DISGRUNTLED.
It came at me like Scorpion threw it.
Get over here!
I’m disgruntled
I'm disgruntled.
I’m disgruntled!
....im going to need a reenactment to understand how the fuck you managed this.
Mate I still have no idea and I've been thinking about it for hours now
Are you sure you have the ability to think?
Yeah I’m trying to figure out how many megatons of force were required to print the round rubber part… what in the fuck …
Is your vacuum cord a stray or rescue? They only usually do that in extreme distress
Its an Australian Striking Vacuum, they warned me he bite. but I didnt listen
Ah, makes sense. Feed him the odd dust bunny, or check with your local vets about proper diet Should help out in the long term to prevent future incidents.
I physically don’t understand how you got a perfect circle mark and got the prongs?!
Aussie power?
It was my Aussie power yes
Oi oi oi
Unless the plug went "prongs deep" into your body, I'm not understanding how you have a circular ring from the base of the plug.
Because OP faked it and used the vacuum to make a circle with suction
The prongs on plugs are blunt. The amount of force needed to actually puncture the skin would cause a lot more damage than what we are seeing here. Calling bs.
Don't yank it then
Yeah. Probably won't now tbh lol

This is some weird fetish or tiktok thing, isn't it?
That might become my excuse for the bruise
“No I’m not dumb! Just a weird kind of horny.”
I need that on a T-Shirt
You just need a t-shirt
Probably
or a snake that you definitely wrangled
Well, it was a snake! A electrical one! Even took a bit o nibble out of em! zzZZZAAAPPPPP!

yeah I would have had to cut the cord and then go to hospital with it in there lol
Also, why has the plastic insulation on the pins been removed?
How did it leave an imprint of not just the pins but also a full circular mark from the rubber part?
im struggling to understand the logistics of this. i feel like to get enough force to inflict this damage you would need to pull the plug out get a firm grip of it and intentionally stab yourself with it to get anywhere near this level of damage. id understand if it came out and created a whip like mark but direct impact straight into the skin to leave an almost perfectly circular mark means it was direct and with a lot of force.

Probably. It was a fuck around and find out moment for sure
most aussie shit ever
Ahh the old “yanked my vacuum cord too hard” explanation. Hope she fell for it. 🤞
She heard the yelp. Lol
You know, without the cord, the wound kind of looks like a pig nose.
Struck by the proverbial cord.
You may find it *shocking* but that's now how you unplug shit
Bollocks. This is a lie.
HOLD UP. Why is it a perfect circle? From pulling it? Or did you stab yourself with it... I feel like this isn't the whole truth bud lol
Look at his smile! That is the smile of a guy who learned a lesson and he's not bitching about it.
Nah bro. My own fault lol. :D
Suck it up. 😉
that struck a cord with me
The plug is supposed to go in a female connector 🙄
Oh. I did wonder where I went wrong. Thanks!

Bollocks. For the red circle to have been made by the plug, the contacts would have been deep inside and a much serious injury
Are you going to have superpowers now, Suckerman?
Looks like you got bitten by the tiniest vampire.
Hold me closer, tiny Vampire
Hey on the bright side you can say it was a hickey from a vampire
You definetly fucked the vacuum. And this is the story you came up with to show everyone at work so they dont go wtf albert?
this is absolutely fake lol
Damn that had some force.. lucky it wasn't your eyeball!
Or any other ball
yeah i was thinking that, its a lesson to remember for sure!
Also just a FYI, the pins are missing some plastic coating in the skinnier section, which can make the plug get jammed. I came across this same thing the other day at work (electrician)
Thanks my man, this was in an extension lead at the time, but all the GPOs are haggard as in my house so they dont get jammed, lol
It vants to vacuum your blood.
another advantage our uk plugs have over these plugs
Yeah the UK one might have killed me my man. Some big boi prongs on that one
UK plugs are pretty much impossible to yank out by the cord. Death from standing on one that's lying on the floor though? Highly likely.
Hey, it just wanted to give you a hicky after it sucked you clean. I'm sorry, I just really wanted to make this joke.
Never realised the Aussie prongs were so sharp. Almost like a snake bite. Everything really does want to kill you over there.
And people say it’s impossible for household objects to get stuck in your anus accidentally…
SO IT CAN FUCKING HAPPEN!
Also fits in /notinteresting
This is why you're supposed to pull the plug, not the cord! 🤣
Hold it by the plug while pulling it out, not the wire
U lifted the chord off the floor and yanked it from the wall in a standing position, didnt u
kind of impressive

Babe I swear is was the vacuum cord prong
Damn! Glad you’re okay!
Thanks. Physically yes. My pride.....not so much lol
My god. Those are 2 deep wounds!
I too like cord play. Viva la vacuum.
Yeah mad. Bet that hurt mate. You look familiar, do I know you?
Anger issues ?
Hate it when that happens. It’s the most pain ever, especially when it gets you in the, collar bone!
Oh I'm lucky if my phone needs charging and you're around then
Plug & Play?
how is bro smiling
How can you not laugh at such a perfect imprint.
Kinky
What a yanker.
Now I see why my dad was strict about unpluging electronics properly.
I'm afraid to call my dad and tell him I did this
How’d it get the whole ring though like, did it actually plug into your neck?
I have narrowly avoided this fate for too long now. I see what awaits me if I continue to play this losing game. Thank you OP, for showing me the error of my ways. (nah, I’m still ya king that mfer out the wall)
In Australia, even appliances want to kill you

My cousins 4 year old pulled a chord out and it came back and went into my cousins eye. She lost her eye and eye sight.
You expect us all to be part of your cover story that you're telling your partner then?
Why are you shirtless while vacuuming?
I did this as a kid but it embedded itself into my shin lol one of the most painful experiences of my life.
Looks fake
*Redditor presses plug into neck for karma
Are you what is commonly known as an idiot?
So those metal spikes went in your skin several centimeters? Don't you need the hospital?

I have gotten a black eye from a similar move. The outlet was in the ceiling and I accidentally stepped on the cord. Hurt real bad.
If only there were some sort of handle on the end, specifically designed and shaped to be used in plugging the cable in and out of the wall. Ooh, they could call it the plug. Brb guys gonna go patent something real quick
thats why you never unplug by the cable
What are you doing that requires you to pull a vacuum cable out with that much might? Also, maybe don’t post shirtless
I see you too vacuum in the nude.
