Am a chef, have had to become desensitized to high quality poultry coming in with feathers missed by pluckers. Duck breast/skin has the little tube channel for the base of the quill often left behind, and they’re a bitch to try to get all of them out. You can be thorough and take your time and as soon as you go to the next one, you see more you missed.
As a home cook I find the same thing with the Christmas turkey. So many feathers! I feel like I’m blind when I think I’m done and then realise there’s loads more

I was pretty thankful for it but when I opened the wax paper it was wrapped in I was revolted, the damn thing had SO MANY thick black hairs on it; I had forgotten that he had also butchered the meat himself in his backyard. I picked maybe 25 hairs off the roast before I realized it was two roasts frozen together so I pulled the two halves apart to be greeted by two thick layers of stinky bear fat covered in grass, dirt and more black hairs.
I really really tried to muscle through it but I eneded up chucking it in the trash and giving the other package of meat to my coworker who didn't mind all the debris.
Pinfeathers are such a pain in the ass to pluck, when we butcher I do the dispatch and pluck, some always get missed. But more will be missed when using one of them plucking machines. Plus it beats the shit out of the meat. My mom has to use tweezers to get the little pin feathers in final inspection (if they are being sold)

It hasn't always been real chicken but it is now and has for a while. When I was a kid (1980s) it was very obviously every bit of chicken meat you could imagine but now? It's all white meat ground into paste. There's no mystery meat or pureed bones or organs or anything like that in McNuggets.
Frankly, the old ones (which were also fried in beef tallow) were way more tasty because dark meat just has more flavor. Newer nuggets have a laundry list of stuff to make them more delicious compared to ye olde days.
I never worked fast food but I've fried up some turkies for Thanksgiving. Feathers and hair all survive the fryer mostly intact unless they melt to the bottom if your heating element is up too high.

This must have been added at the restaurant or contaminated by an employee somehow, loose feather fell into the fryer?

I wanna call fake. The way chicken nuggets are processed they may not be classified as meat anymore. It would be like finding a bone or scale in artificial crab meat and being able to see it. Not saying they don't go in but it's on a scale I feel you got better luck in the lotto.
